Ain't Life Too Short for That?

Situated at the D'Neville Mansion pool.

Chips of wood flew inches away, before gravity kicked in, and down they spiraled. The mold covered concrete curved pool bottom was spotted with the cinnamon colored flecks. There had already been two finished that morning, and both sat next to him. One, a small duck with feathers painstakingly carved into the flesh of the wood. Another, a flat piece, had patterned blooms engraved into it.

The one in his paw whined in protest as the slick carving nice slit away chunks of it's inside. Slowly, the shape of a cup became to form from the madness. What was once a block of wood became an object with purpose and flair. Details were worked into the outside of the cup, small lines, thick lines.

Amos wasn't all that good. It was thanks to years of free time to practice that he had learned how to make simple designs, simple shapes, and the occasional accurate detail. Ducks, cups, flowers, they were easy, and a good time killer.

A cigarette was balanced precariously between his lips. In his hat, tucked safely behind the black band, was a beat up box of Camels.
