say hello to state lines

When all else failed, Corona found herself resigning back to Chimera and the crooked throne that sat near its centre. She was inwardly surprised that it hadn't been broken down or stolen, or even set aflame. But it served its purpose as being a place to retreat to, a place to hide away and think about how things were setting up in her life. She hadn't been back very long and already relatives were pouring out of the woodwork. The thought of the newest litter Kaena had plagued her a bit, surprised that her mother would even be willing to go through that process time after time. As if they all hadn't been enough… but part of her liked to think that Kaena enjoyed playing mother and leader of the sandy empire.

She hadn't gone to see her yet, of course. Ahren had stumbled across her by accident and it left the young girl reeling again as to which end of the world she wanted to go and sit on. Mommy or Daddy, the foggy lake or the open shore. She was old enough to really go without her parents, but the attachments were still there. She loved them, she supported them as they had supported and cared for her. The added fact that they were both leaders (or once leaders) made her do what any instinctual, social animal wanted to do; serve them as a loyal member. Though as turmoil stirred around in her head, Corona felt entirely at ease with being in a place she had called home. The memories that had flooded back had allowed her to relax for once in months, and loneliness did not chase after her.

Yet in the end, she felt no real pressure to choose sides.
