Her feet really, really hurt at this point. In her Optime form, the sensitive pads of her hind paws bore the brunt of her weight. She was above average in terms of size considering her gender. In this form, the female stood at about six feet and four inches. She did not consider herself slender or a delicate flower. In fact, her form was just the opposite. There was nothing essentially delicate about this female wolf. Well honed muscle stretched over her form. Her most valuable asset was definitely her strength and agility. She was not bulky, but her physical power was evident. It was also evident that she knew she was strong enough not to be messed with because she walked with her head up and her bright yellow eyes forward.

Chilly weather didn't really bother Ali. She had been in the colder climes for some time. She did not know how many seasons or years. She did not always pay attention to time passing. She tried to live in the present and to enjoy things for what they were versus what they might be in the days ahead. It might not have been the best philosophy but she did not ever really deviate from it. As a traveler by practice, if not by nature, Ali felt that it was appropriate for her to embrace that mindset.

Ali's coat gleamed with a healthy sheen and her teeth shone sharp and white in her gray and cream colored maw. Her underbelly was the same white and her right ear was tipped like it had been dipped in cream. Alethia ventured farther along the frost touched terrain, felt the chill of the wind, and knew that winter would be coming soon. Would she find any vestiges of her family, or her old comrades? She did not know, but she was hopeful. And if not, any new faces, friendly or otherwise, would break up the monotony of the road. She continued in a linear path until she encountered the scent marks indicating a claimed place of a pack.

Geneva did not often venture along the borders of Phoenix Valley these days. She had been lax in her duties lately and it showed. Jefferson had not said much about it, but she could sometimes see how tired he was coming home at night. Cold weather did not work well with his old injuries, and he often could not wait to spend nights by the hearth with their son. Geneva wanted to alleviate a little bit of his burden if she could, and she was perfectly capable. She had been so preoccupied with her own musings and memories that she had been lax in her duties, and so she tried to pick up the slack.

The borders were freshly marked. She knew this only because Jefferson was always thorough; she herself did not have a working sense of smell. The scarred woman had to keep her eyes peeled because she did not have that major sense to work with. She had recently taken to wearing long skirted dresses, although she knew the time would come for her to retire those clothes. With winter coming, the skirts would get tangled and wet in snow. Geneva was whole and healthy, her body recovered from a horrific fall in the spring and giving birth to her son. Even so, her coat still grew in slowly. She still was not completely prepared for winter.

Her lime green eyes caught a glint of motion in the distance, and so she turned in that direction. As she continued toward the shape and was able to espy the wolfess' features, she froze. Her mouth opened but no words issued from her mouth. With eyes wide, she numbly walked forward and paused several feet in front of her. "Alethia?" she whispered harshly, scarcely believing that it was indeed her sister standing before her.

Ali encountered the strangely familiar scent that she could not put a name to. She tried to find out why the scent tugged at her memories, but she was no sure. Whoever the scent belonged to, that person was a definite part of the distant past. There were many who she had not seen a very long time, including her family and the Saers, who were her kin through mateship to her sister. It had been a long time since her dalliance with Hendrix, which had been months ago, and she was sure she would remember such a scent.

Not very bothered, she decided to continue farther into the marked territory. Ali knew that the person associated with the scent was esteemed colleague. She did not have any enemies that she knew of. Alethia was a peaceable sort. Even if she was making a mistake, maybe she could talk her way out of it. Curiosity hadn't killed her yet. Injured her, certainly, but it had never gotten the better of her in terms of the consequences.

When Alethia laid eyes on her sister, her reaction was opposite. She smiled bemusedly and approached her small sister who had always been shorter and more slender than herself. "Last time I checked, that was my name, Gennie," she whispered seductively and reached out to touch her. Her sister had gained scars on her face that made her almost unrecognizable. It had been two years since she had seen her, and the last time she had Geneva had been young and whole. But the injuries were obviously old and healed over. "What are you doing here anyway? You never were a drifter. Is Jordan here?" Ali had many questions for her sister. Things had changed, but how? This was not the happy ever after in New York she envisioned for Geneva.

It seemed so unlikely, yet here her sister stood before her. Geneva did not know if she dared to believe. Alethia spoke as if it had been mere weeks, and not years, since they had lost spoken. It was like looking at a ghost from her childhood, which was a lifetime ago. "I live here," Geneva said numbly. She had not thought that she would ever be reunited with Alethia, or any of those who she had left behind before coming to Nova Scotia.

"So many things have changed..." She reached out to twist her fingers in her sister's hand. "Tell me you'll stay," Geneva demanded. It seemed like a dream that Alethia was here, but she refused to let her go. And she could not just spirit herself away with her sister if she decided to venture onward. She had a family here and she was settled and committed to the Valley pack.
