He did not understand much of the world he lived in, but knew he was required to make his own beliefs about this place he lived in. Sandy painted paws drummed against the frozen ground as he abandoned Inferni lands once again. Scarlet-lilac eyes scanned the rocky area that his pace had brought him into before turning back to gaze in the general direction of the clan lands.

Settling on his haunches, he really couldn’t think of anything interesting to do. This life was rather monotone in his opinion, but he couldn’t make amends as he did not really know what the matter was. The young hybrid had everything he wanted here, but he wanted more; much more. That was the only thing he knew for certain.

ITACHIIIIII

Her hand trembled and shook as she attempted to grip the axe, and the weapon fell to the ground with a Thunk as she released it. She would probably always have problems with this hand, she was now beginning to realize. The bear trap had done more damage than she thought that it would have been able to, making a mess out of her four main digits on that hand. The more she tried to use it for things, the more it rebelled. She stretched the hand out and it shook even more, making the female shake her head in disappointment.

She picked up the axe with her other, more tired hand, continuing to chop branches off of the fallen tree before her. They'd need some more firewood in order to keep warm tonight. Once she had a good bundle she began to walk back to where Selene, Azalea, and the two pups would be waiting. They would stay nice and warm tonight, that was for sure. She was passing fairly close to Inferni and could smell the coyotes, but felt that she was far enough away. She didn't want any attention from them, and hurried toward the place that she had made camp in.

Oh look at my pretty table!

Ears stood attention on top of the youth’s head as a distant, rhythmic sound reached him. Curious to what this could be, his form lifted from the cool ground in physical pursuit of the source of the sound of chopping. There were no expectations tied to the search, for he knew so little of this outside world beyond the clan’s borders. As the boy remained naturally suspicious of outsiders; faces and scents he did not know, his pace slowed once he was reaching the scene.

Now ears turned to rest again pale blonde as he stared at several canine creature carrying a bundle of wood. The hybrid puppy could guess that it could be for feeding fire, but what did he know of these foreigners? For a moment the boy seemed awestruck, for the woman’s pale fur was new to scarlet eyes. ”What are you doing?” he heard his own voice ask. It was rare for him to be the first to speak up, but if things turned horrible there was always the option of fleeing.

She was very disappointed in her trembly hand. Naniko knew that she shouldn't show any sign of weakness to the members that she was trying to recruit; she had to be a steadfast and strong leader, and didn't want them to know of her flawed hand. The injury had been months ago and there were no more cuts or scrapes on her, but the long lasting damage stressed her.

Naniko hadn't thought that there was anyone else about, having heard nothing out of the ordinary. The pup had to have some sort of stealth skills to have stayed undetected by her. She looked back at him, wood in arms. "Going to go make a fire so I can keep my kid warm. What are you doing out here?" She asked simply.

His demeanour had always been of the quiet kind, and was reflected in the way he moved. The child had not attempted to sneak up on the pale woman however, but didn’t catch her surprise either. He noted that she did not greet him with a “hi” or “hello”, but realized that neither had he. First, he waited for the adult’s word-flow to cease, then he attempted to amend his first sentence, adding a small “Hai.” Golden tail waved, signalling that his unease was not the primary emotion stirring within his little chest.

A fire to keep another body warm made sense, and the kid nodded, moving to respond to her question. Itachi could have revealed that he was simply walking; moving his paws against soil, but he did not believe that was an answer she sought. ”I don’t know,” he said, finding that there was more information for her in such a sentence. In fact it was a truthful one, for he did not have a dedicated path that he was following here.

He was young and she didn't worry too much about him trying to attack her or anything. Naniko had a few daggers tucked away that she could use in that case. Normally creatures that smelled of Inferni made her a little uneasy, still unsure of the coyote clan, but this one was just a youngster. She couldn't be uneasy about him. "Well...are you cold, or hungry? We hunted this morning and have a fair amount of meat, if you'd like to share a meal" She offered.

His tail was wagging and she made sure that hers was going as well, showing her own good faith. "My son would probably try to talk to you and get you to play...I don't know if you like to play or not.." Did the pups of Inferni play? She wasn't sure.

He was not cold, but eyes seemed to glimmer just a little bit more as he settled on the thought of nutrition. The blonde’s tail moved faster behind him in a content manner, drawing up an uncommon smile on his young face. ”Yes, please,” he chimed, padding closer, suddenly harbouring much more trust in this strange, pale woman that looked so unlike anyone he had seen before. He liked the pure jade colour in her eyes.

The adult’s next words brought a hint of reluctance to his face at the thought of playing. He had never been with another child before, and the thought of playing with it? Well, it was a foreign thought; something that he had never done before. He was still young, but he had spent very little time on play. ”I don’t play.” Eyes looked up to her, investigating her face as he looked for emotion. Anger, disappointment, humour? Children were expected to do such silly things, but he had not been brought up the usual way.

”You’re very pretty.” Yes, bring the topic over to something pleasant, rather than other puppies and play.

Out of character text.

Her son usually wanted to play...he often tried to get her to, and she did partake in play with him every once in a while. Pups were good at amusing themselves and finding adventures themselves, though, as well, particularly Scorpius. He was always getting into one form of trouble or another.

Itachi looked pretty young, but not as young as Scorpius. She wondered how old he was, exactly. "You don't have to play. You can sit and talk to me. I could use some news...I lived here before." They started to walk and she cleared her throat, looking down at the whelp and then straight ahead once more. "You're from Inferni?"

A heavy exhale escaped his little chest, though not in obvious relief as the woman said that he did not have to play. Truth was that he probably wouldn’t know exactly how to do it. Of course, he was a mere child and it wouldn’t have been an impossible thing, but it was not something he particularly enjoyed, in fact. Perhaps he was a boring youth, but he had issues with caring about other people’s views of him. The thought of sitting down and conversing with this adult seemed far interesting, and he gave a nod, eyes widening slightly as she said that she lived here before.

Large ears flickered as she asked her question and the boy nodded, dark crimson lined with purple observing the pale face that was so beautiful with the absence of other colours. ”Kaena Lykoi is my grandmother,” he replied, eager to let her know that he was, in fact, a prince of Inferni. ”I’m Itachi Lykoi!” If he gave the adult his name, maybe he would learn hers. Her green eyes were so pretty.

She wasn't surprised to hear that he was a Lykoi; that seemed to be the case with many of the canines of Inferni. She didn't expect them all to be coyotes, necessarily, but it seemed like many of them were Lykois. She didn't mind whether a canine was a wolf, coyote, or hybrid as long as they pledged their allegiance to the pack and to her and Azalea. A body was a body.

"I've met her. She was a pretty cool old lady...seemed like it, anyway. We helped each other out once. What's she doing in Inferni? Is she just a member?" She inquired. It was good to know the particulars about the surrounding packs, and if she was remembering right Inferni would be one of the nearest to her pack. "Good to meet you, Itachi. I am Naniko D'Angelo. I'm making a pack up in the mountain..Anathema. I'll be the leader there."

A pretty cool old lady. That was a way to describe someone as well, he supposed. Large scarlet remained locked on her eerie, pale beauty. Itachi did not feel particularly inclined to discuss Kaena in great detail. No, he wished to know more about this mystical woman with the emerald eyes. However, she had asked him a question and he would impress her by granting her an informative answer. ”She is Centurion which means leader and she does leader things in Inferni,” he replied, voice threatening to rise up to a pitch.

Naniko D’Angelo, what an interesting name. The young boy felt his shoulders slink together slightly at the news that he was standing before another pack’s leader. Anathema was an alien word in his ears, but since the woman said it was a pack they were making, it was not strange that its name was foreign. Itachi knew that he was merely a little child, so there were plenty of things he was unaware of that he wished he wasn’t. He thought Naniko seemed fit to be a queen. ”Is it like a pack with only wolves in?” Clan was for coyotes, the packs were with wolves, was that not what he had been taught?

Itachi's avatar is so sexy.

She didn't mind speaking to the young one; it was refreshing to get another viewpoint on things. She wasn't too particular about who she had a conversation with as long as it was interesting and as long as she wasn't in danger. The news of Kaena was good to hear; she was glad to know that her friend was doing well in Inferni. "I consider her a friend...so I'm glad to hear that."

Naniko left it at that, unsure if she should continue to ask about Kaena. That was all that she really needed to know about her...she'd head up to Inferni sooner or later to see for herself. She was still thinking about that when another question came, and she considered her answer. "No. I don't care who comes...just anyone needing a home. Especially ones who feel like they don't fit in other places or aren't welcomed other places. I'm purely wolf, myself..but what someone else is made of is of no interest to me."

Oversized ears remained perked and stood attention as the adult woman spoke her beautiful words. A friend, she said. The young male tilted his head somewhat, looking to the pale goddess with expectance in his eyes as if he would be able to understand a fuller meaning of the word if he gazed into her lovely eyes long enough. No answer seemed to dawn on him, but he liked to have a reason to look at her. So his grandmother was this wolf’s friend. It was strange, because he had always believed that the clan was not friendly with wolves. The borders quietly spoke of their relationship, and he knew that the skulls were the head of wolves without any fur or eyes or noses. He did not find them scary at all, in fact, because he knew that it was Inferni members that had done it and put their heads on top of those sticks. If anything, all wolves should be afraid of him for being a part of the coyote clan. Itachi liked thinking along those lines; liked to think of himself as a mighty superior in the eyes of other. Only a child, but already he had the arrogance of his kind.

He would remain kind to this woman though, because she was kind to him and treated him as something more than a mere child. Not every adult knew how to speak to a young puppy, but pale white Naniko was not one of them. She had offered him food and understood without any sour frown that he did not like to play with other puppies. ”I did not know coyotes and wolves could be friends,” he said, voicing his thoughts, more or less. Thinking about the skulls, he wondered if Naniko’s face would look the same as the rest of her head was put on a stick. He did not like that idea though, and quickly abandoned it. Then again, what was a friend, really? Did he have any? He attempted to think, but there was still no answer within his head that could satisfy his curiosity at the word. He was slightly disappointed that he had not received a visual response when he had complimented the white lady on her looks, but perhaps such pretty words from a young, silly boy did not matter much to her.

Her answer to the question about whether or not her pack would be for wolves only made him slightly optimistic again, though the young male had no thoughts about leaving the clan. The lands were dull without much happening, but it was where he had been born and the thought of leaving the clan had never once touched his mind. Were there many that needed homes? Many that did not feel like they fitted in other places? What did it mean that they were not welcome? Dark crimson eyes seemed to turn slightly rounder as he considered this. ”Why are some not welcomed other places?” Were they bad? How bad was really bad? Itachi had never been a trouble doer, ever, but he knew that he was capable of more than his caretaker knew. He knew not where the lines went though, and had not yet found a solid reason to test it out, though the pale woman inspired unpleasant thoughts to take root and grow as they spoke. She was a wolf and said that she did not care what someone else was made of. The young male did not really understand those lines, and he cursed his young age and the lack of equality between them. She remained beautiful to him, however, and his intent gaze revealed that he was more than a little bit dazzled by her appearance.

Itachi didn’t look like any wolf or coyote that she had ever met before. Naniko had seen many in her time, but his coat was peculiar and would stand out in her mind. As she walked along beside him she noticed the colors of it and noted how fluffy it looked; she almost wanted to reach out and test its amount of fluff, but restrained herself. She needed to carry this wood, not pet strangers.

She knew that Inferni was out there still and that they weren’t on friendly terms with most wolves, but she did consider Kaena one of her friends. They had helped each other out and had gotten along…that was enough for her to consider someone a friend. As long as the female didn’t back stab her like so many others in her life had, she would be fine with remaining friends for however long they could keep it up.

Besides Kaena and Geneva, she couldn’t count many other friends. Naniko had given birth to many litters while in ‘Souls and had spent a lot of time in her den nursing children or chasing them around her various packlands. This had left her slightly socially stunted; she had a lot to learn about making friends and keeping them. For now she would simply treat people as she wanted to be treated.

”If guess if you’re brought up thinking that…if your parents think that, that you’ll think it too. I don’t care, my prospective pack doesn’t care. Wolves, coyotes, hybrids, dogs, whoever wants to come can come. I think the others are just close-minded. They care about what’s on the outside.” They reached the caves and she invited him inside with her, pointing inside to where the fire burned. ”Are you in, or out?” She asked. If he had changed his mind about sitting with a wolf, then she wouldn’t force him.

The boy remained oblivious of where they were headed, more or less. Eyes continued to wander between the path before his slightly oversized paws and her pale features, reluctant to miss a step and desiring her. It was a quiet ache, and as he was too young to understand attraction, he was content with watching her unique white and green play with his visual sense. There were more words about different races of canines, though he remained no wiser on the other subject. Or perhaps, what to-be-queen Naniko meant was that there were those of mixed blood that found no home because they were different. He had never really thought about the subject in depth, but he knew his mother’s perspective on the matter. ”My mother doesn’t like wolves.” He believed she had killed some as well, as a fighter and all, but these thoughts he did not share with the adult.

Positioned in front of the cave now, he did not have to consider the invitation. There was a live fire within, and his pale golden figure padded into the hole in the steep, natural wall, immediately judging the breath of warmth greeting him as wondrous. There would be strangers within though, and he kept to the pale woman’s side, lightly brushing against her legs as he padded into what would have been darkness if not for the gentle cracking fire.
