Look to the past, tell me what you see

Davyn felt antsy in the evenings now that he felt better, and so he found himself roaming the packlands, learning where everything was, and trying to avoid annoying the other wolves. His favorite place as of yet was a lone tree overlooking a large field. With the snow gently falling this beautiful night, the shadows draped over the limbs of the tree like curtains.

He curled up at the base of the tree, raising his face to the sky, letting the snowflakes kiss his fur and linger there. He wanted to remember his family from the south, but he had a feeling that someone would have to trigger the memories for him. He only dimly remembered someone, a female perhaps, that he should come to Phoenix Valley if anything bad happened. She, whoever she had been in his life, had told him that the wolves here were really accepting. So far, they had been. He could only hope for the best here on out.

The light padding of her feet was the only thing making noise in the silent night. She had become restless during the night and decided to clear her head in the cold night air. At first the woman headed south but before long she traveled east, puffing happily through the new snow.

However as she came to a field the wind carried a different but familiar scent. Her azule eyes looked up to spot the male that she had found in her house just this afternoon. Rendall half-smiled to herself and approached the male with a small yiff letting him know of her appearance. "What brings you out on a night like this?"

The male looked up as the female who had previously introduced herself as Rendall approached him. She had the air about her that told him that she had traveled, and suffered at times. At this rate, Davyn was beginning to think that no wolf had not suffered in some way or another.

"Good evening, my lady." Davyn scooted over, making a spot for the female to sit. "I would normally ask the same of such a pretty female, but I fear that my tongue is a bit tied at the moment." Davyn grinned slightly, trying to gauge how she would react.

"To answer your question, fair lady, I find that memories have roused me from a sound sleep on this snowy night, and chased me out to find some answers. Perhaps you could assist this poor wolf? It has struck me that you are familiar with the packlands. Did you reside here before...your travels?"

Rendall smiled at the males comment, though no male had dared approached her before as anything close to romantic much less flirtatious. The girl still blushed slightly at his words as she sat down next to him. It comforted her knowing that she was not the only one troubled by her memories, and she sympothized the wolf for sharing in her pain. However it did peek her intrest that he knew she traveled, she cocked her head a little at his words but figured it took a traveler to know one. She shrugged the uncomfortableness happily away. Over the year of her absence she became accostome to welcoming a strangers company and words.

However, his next question caught her off guard. To remember what her beloved Vally was like even before she left? "Huh..." Ren tilted her head down and recalled all that this place had been to her growing up. "Well, the air itself around here is still the same welcoming peacefulness as its always been. When I first arrived it was summer and I had spent six months of my life here with a family of misfits much like myself. But if you think about it, this whole clan are misfits. The leader, Jefferson, hes always been the grumpy old man with the kind heart to me, and Geneva, his mate and second in command so to speak, shes his opposite, shes really nice." The wolfess chuckled and wagged her tail, she would probably have her ear bitten off by Jefferson if he ever found out what she said about him.

And then she recalled all the faces she had come to love."Then....theres the ones that practically raised me, the first one I met who ended up being my mentor and practically my father was Pendzez, hes still here but I havent gotten a chance to visit with him on my return. The next one, his mate now, though I heard she left the clan a few weeks back was Xeris, she was a very kind hearted wolfess that practically became my mother when I most needed one. And then theres Ty, he was like my big brother, he taught me all there was to being a pup, and he had the most beautiful eyes. multicolored. But he left the Vally too. Finally theres Anya, she was my gentle-hearted big sister who knew herbs like the back of her paw. We had always hoped her an Ty would mate but I guess shes disapeared too. She was the one I acctually lived with when the wolf that took me in, DaVinci left." Her heart dampened at the memories of those who were long gone. She hoped to see them again some day. Rendall turned back to the male and smiled. "This place is a good place to start fresh. No matter what your past, you can always find peace here."

Davyn noted the blush of Rendall with an inner grin. She got a dreamy look in her eyes as she remembered her friends...it was a look that he loved to study, since one could always tell if a memory was fresh from the way it appeared in a wolf's eyes.

However, his study was paused rather abruptly when the name Anya was mentioned...Anya. Where did he know that name from...? And then it hit him. His brother had mated with a regular wolf named Anya.

"Just out of curiosity, young miss, was your Anya a regular wolf, silver fur with bright red eyes...?" He could only hope that his assumption was wrong. His memories were beginning to flood back, and Davyn wasn't entirely sure he liked the sensation of helplessness that came with the flood.

He saw, in his violently twitching mind's eye, the silver furred wolf his brother had loved. She had been great at first. She really had been. But Davyn had always sensed a darker side of her, a side that his brother had been blind to. So he had not been too surprised to see her turn and break his brother's heart. What Davyn had been more shocked about was the fact that she had managed to turn the entire pack against his small family. And had them destroyed. How he had survived, he had no idea.

Davyn jerked out of the flood of not-so-wanted-after-all memories, and almost cowered against the roots of the tree, breathing heavily, wide eyes with panic.

Thats right! Rendall had forgotten that Anya was not a luperci."Yes she was a normal wolf but, I dont ever remember her having red eyes, her eyes were stormy, grey." The girl turned to see that the male wasnt beside her anymore. She looked around quickly, worried before her eyes came to rest on his body shaking next a tree and his eyes wide in shock. She quickly changed form and ran over to him and cupped his face gently in her hands

"Davyn? Are you alright?" She looekd worriedly into his eyes until she saw his sence return into his gaze."What happened?" She stroked the fur on the side of his face until she realized what she was doing and quickly dropped her hands before blushing. "Sorry......" she turned back to him. "Are you alright?"

As he came out of his daze, Davyn felt a gentle hand stroking the fur along his jaw. When he opened his eyes completely, he pulled back abruptly from Rendall's paw, slamming his head against the trunk of the tree, frantic to get away from her caring touch. Her close proximity caused him to blush profusely. It was clear that Davyn was not entirely accustomed to touch; panic attacks would strike suddenly and violently if he were placed in a crowded situation.

"I beg pardon, my lady. I do not mean to offend...I thank you very much for your concern. I am afraid that I was overcome for a bit by my past...nothing to worry about now."

He shook his head to clear the images away, then turned to the lovely lady in front of him. "Please, milady. Tell me about your travels? How does such a lady as you end up traveling and suffering hardships that have made such pretty blue eyes so sad?"

Rendall gave the male a grave look and turned back to where they were sitting before. She looked down on the field that she had crossed and watched her tracks slowly disapear in the snow."I'd rather not look back on all the moments I was looked down upon because of my pelt. I rather look back at all the places I've gone and all the people I've met."

She turned back and smiled at him returning back to her usual self. "It does feel good to be home though." Ren sat down next to him and watched little individual fall quietly in the moonlight. The wind had settled and clouds had parted, letting the liquid light pour down on the frozen earth here and there.

"I beg pardon, milady; I did not mean to remind you of things best forgotten..." His voice trailed off, eyes following the trails of snowflakes drifting their way to a new home, with such a short lifespan if encountering a bit of warmth. The snow reminded him of a song he had heard a long time ago, by a human artist with a voice, he thought, that should have been an angel's voice. Davyn had long ago decided that when he died, he wanted to meet that angel, and thank her for her beautiful music that had so many times soothed his wounded soul.

"It's nice to settle down, though I know not how long I shall stay. This is by far the nicest pack I have encountered thus far. So many kind faces--"inclining his head towards Rendall"And so many things that catch my eye. At this rate, I'm going to have to dredge up some paper and ink to write."

ooc: The song Davyn speaks of...Sorry about the lame post.

She smiled at him "Its alright. My life since I traveled from here has been both good and bad. I'm happy to have returned homw at such a beautiful and cold time."She sat there on the log with her companion for what seemed to be a frozen time into forever. Watching the little snowflakes fall quietly onto the chilled earth. A small breeze picked up and tickled her fur.

Davyn's voice is what dragged her back to the world. She smiled happily at him and cocked her ears at the mentioning of his writing. "Your a writer? How interesting, I have met very few if any other luperci that are into liturature. It's nice haveing someone else here."

want to wrap it up?

His eyes widened at her words. Davyn thought, for a minute, perhaps he could find some paper. “Indeed, milady. I also draw. Let me know if you would, by any chance, like some art to decorate the bare walls of your home.” His fingers itched at the chance to draw and write again.

His talents had been frowned upon in his past, and his interest in history had been scorned. History and art never brought in a deer or elk for food, the alpha had claimed, and scored his art and books with his claws. That had been the first time Davyn had ever felt anger, but it wouldn't be the last.

"Milady, if it would be alright with you, I would like to ask you what Phoenix Valley looked like before you left. But first, I feel rather obliged to walk you home, as it is rather late. My curiosity can wait."

Sounds good to me ^.^

Ren smiled happily at the males invitation for the painting. It would be lovely to have a painted house. Perhaps she would hold him to that promise when the spring came. With that she looked over to the male and nodded happily "I would be honored to be escorted home." She stood up with Davyn and began to walk happily back towards the cabin. Although the wind blew cold the female was uneffected by the chill. The thought about how summer was like in Pheonix Vally warmed her even more. She remembered how the trees were healthy and green. She even remembered all the people she had met. Weather they were from a different pack or the same, the experience was always fun. Even when she met the great leader of the one pack that didnt get along with Pheonix Vally, the meeting was still casual and happy.

"Well when I came here it was summer and I was staying with the wolf DaVinci. Pheonix Vally was getting along with all packs except one....Inferni, the Coyote pack. Although many wolves and coyotes did tolerate each other on individual meetings, the packs themselves didnt get along. I met Kaena before I left, before the war. I'm not sure how the Vally's relationship with Inferni is now. All I know is its still mostly the same, a few people are still gone. Like Ty and Anya, but we alo have a bundle of new people."

She spotted the cabin in the distance. It was time to say goodbye to Davyn, She turned and smiled as they approached her door."Thank you for making sure I arrived home, I guess I'll see you around sometime." She kissed him lightly on the cheek, a friendly guesture and waved back to him as she went inside.
