Past rainbows that lead to empty pots

Ren walked sulkingly down an abandoned path. Shrouded bushes and trees brushed against her shoulders grudgingly like hands raking through her fur. She finally shrugged them off and continued down the path towards her cabin. A smell caught her nose. A familiar warm scent of the past. She trotted quickly toward the hot water springs, happy to get rid of the cold on her pads for a while. Her mind went quickly back to Anya, it was good to see her friend again, and Anya's companion, Arorun. An interesting person he was. She lowered herself into the warm water sighing happily at the feel of her achy body relaxing at the water's tough. It was a good day for doing this. The air was cool and crisp and the sun was out and high in the december sky.

Finally, feeling eager to get back home, Rendall jumped up, shook off, and trotted more quickly down the path. However, a white figure amongst the trees caught her eye. A double look back confirmed what the blue wolf was seeing. Could it really be? The woman took off after the figure."Xeris!" She slowed her approached and caught up to the once-gentle wolfess, finally getting a good look at her. Ren froze in her tracks."Xeris....what happened to you?" She carefulyl approachedthe woman and nuzzled her neck gently, scared that she wound harm the scarred female further.

Xeris had decided to go for a stroll through the woods. She was beginning to feel better--but only slightly. The return of Delwyn had at least brought some happiness into her life. But she knew that things would never be the same. Even when Xion returned--for she knew that her daughter would make her way back, she kept telling herself that over and over again--there would still be something missing in Xeris' life. It was odd, how the loss of her family that had banished her and she had rarely seen in the last two years affected her so much.

As she walked between the trees, watching her breath become fog in front of her face, she suddenly heard a voice calling her name. She had heard that voice before...but was it really Rendall? Xeris hadn't seen the girl with the blue-tinted pelt in so many months. Turning around, she gasped quietly at the sight of her friend approaching. The girl had grown, but it was definitely Rendall. "R-Rendall!" Xeris stammered. "I...It's so good to see you." She gently rubbed her head against the forehead of the younger wolfess in an almost motherly gesture. And then Rendall asked what had happened--surely she had noticed Xeris' torn ear and slashed throat. She sighed. "There was a war in my homeland," she replied. Xeris was trying to keep the details limited almost protectively of Rendall, not wanting to frighten her; her memories of Rendall were as a child, and it hadn't quite sunk in yet that the girl had grown mentally as well as physically. "My birth pack is gone." She paused, wanting to change the subject quickly. "And what about you? It's been so long...I'm glad to see you."

Rendall was comforted by her friends touch. She had always been the closest thing to a mother to Ren since her's died a long time ago. But eve nat the warm welcoming touch Rendall's heart sank at the news of her friends pack. It reminded the blue wolfess of when she had been banished from her own pack. But the reunion with Vulcan had healed that wound. Though it still left a big scar. "I'm very sorry for your loss." She nuzzled the wolfess once more for comfort.

Tne her attention was called upon her travels. Alot of questions had come up as to where she had disapeared off to. "I first met up with my brother Vulcan. He took me in and brought me with on his travels all over the world. I've seen so many places I didnt know existed. He taught me how to trade, hunt, bargain, fish, sail, so many things and told me about my sisters. Yiska and Zeru. They're both in thier own packs with families. After about six months my brother left me and went to find his own family. The rest of the time I was on my own. At first I went to find Avery and my old pack. But I found the place they lived in abandoned. Burned to the ground, and everything was broken and such. So I left and continued to travel till I got home sick and came back here."

She looked over at Xeris. "Say....you want to come over to my place? I have deer meat simmering in the oven and all kinds of things I can show you that I've gotten from palces I've gone to." She smiled happily and nodded her head in the direction of the path that lead back to her cabin.

ooc: short post is short. :|

The white wolfess listened intently to her friend's tale, after nodding solemnly in response to her apology. She was eager to discuss something other than her own story. Rendall detailed her meeting with her brother and then told how she couldn't find her own former pack either. "Well, it is good that you got to see your brother," Xeris replied. "I'm sorry that you could not find your old pack. Hopefully they just moved on somewhere else." Rendall did not appear to be as upset by this as Xeris had been over her own family, but Xeris still remained solemn.

The blue-tinted wolfess then asked if Xeris wanted to come along to her cabin. Xeris smiled warmly. "I would love to. You lead the way." Xeris remembered that Rendall had previously lived with DaVinci, back when she was still much younger. It was an odd thought in her mind that her friend was now living on her own and had gone on such adventures by herself.

Its ok Smile mines kinda short too

Rendall flicked her tail happily and lead the way to her cabin. She trotted through the snow, eagar to get her still-damp fur out of the cold. Finally, the small cabin came into sight. Rendall smiled at her friend and went down the hill to the front porch. It wasnt too shabby since she fixed it up....though it wasnt exactly pretty either. Still, it protected a wolf from the cold and Ren was happy with it. She shook off her fur and opened the door for Xeris to come in. Afterwards, she walked accross the roo, talking to Xeris on her way to the kitchen "Feel free to make yourself comfortable by the fire." Ren had brought some good cushions from the city as well as hundreds of other things she had gathered up in the past couple of weeks.

Rendall quickly went to check on the meet in the oven and took a deep breath of the warm steam."Mmmm, almost done." She smiled over at Xeris before grabbing her water pot and setting it on top of the oven. "Just one more thing." she held up her hand and ran quickly upstairs to grab a small box. then running quickly back down to where Xeris was waiting. "I have something for you and your family."

sorry for slowness and the continuing shortness of my posts. <_<

Xeris followed her friend through the cold, eventually arriving at her little cabin. Upon entering, she cast her eyes around curiously, interested by the assortment of objects that Rendall had apparently collected. There were things she had never seen before, and some that she vaguely recognized as certain human objects that she had come across, perhaps in the Sanctuary Mansion earlier in the year with Pendzez. Nonetheless, she was eager to hear Rendall's stories about her travels and where she had found all these things. At her friend's words, Xeris sat down amongst the cushions.

The scent of Rendall's cooking was beginning to waft through the cabin, and Xeris sniffed it, intrigued. "That smells wonderful," she said, watching Rendall walk around the cabin busily. She opened her mouth to ask about the large collection of items, but stopped when Rendall spoke up, mentioning that she had gifts for Xeris and her family. The white wolfess smiled, touched. "Oh?" The tales of the various things scattered about the room could wait, she supposed.

Its alright Smile

Rendall smiled at the wolfess and opened the box. In it were five different charms, each were particularly detailed to the culture that made them. Two were attached to fine ribbons and the others were attached to color twine. The first was an anklet that Ren held up to Xeris. It had a ship on it attached to a blue ribbon, silver with a tiny saphire on the sails. "When I learned of your children I wanted to include them in with my returning gifts. This one is for your daughter. I heard she was adventerous of sorts.I got it when me and Vulcan made our first port in months. On an island right off shore." She placed it in front of Xeris' cushion and reached for another.

The next that Rendall grabbed was a necklace. A Triangle with an emerald laying inside like a guarded horde. The twine matched the silver pendent with green. "One time we found a place that had gigantic triangles. The humans had called them Pyramids and inside them was to be buried great and brave men with their treasures. This is for one of your sons. And this one is for the other, It was once a language of the humans we found it far east of here. It means Honor." She placed a dark purple wrist band with a strange but some how graceful symbol. In the middle was a small purple stone of amethyst.

Finally Ren placed in front two necklaces, the pendent was one.....half of it was a moon, and half was a sun. Ren pinched the pendent gently and the two peices came apart in her hands. "It can be put back together if needed, the moon is yours. You were always a kind and loving spirit but smart, like the moon. The sun belong s to Pendzez, his spirit is determined and his heart is wild. You two are both apart of each other." The moon had a small topaze stone in it and the sun had a ruby. "I found these two where my pack use to be. They use to belong to my mother and father. I want you two to have them."

It was not long before Rendall approached with a box; Xeris looked in awe at the jewelry inside, her golden eyes sparkling much like the gems did. She listened to her friend's explanations of all the items, fascinated by the stories behind them. It hurt her a little when Rendall brought up Xion, due to her continued absence, but in the end she supposed that giving her the gift would be one more thing to make her daughter's return something to look forward to. When Rendall finished her tales about the gifts, Xeris smiled widely at her friend. "Thank you so much, Rendall. This means a lot to me. I will pass these on to my family." She reached over and took the moon necklace in her hands gently, then secured it around her neck.

She couldn't hold back her questions any longer, though. "So," she began, looking around the room with wide eyes, "Just where did you find all of this? There's so many things here, you must have gone to such amazing places." She was eager to hear more about her friend's travels; her interest in human artifacts had been sparked when she went with Pendzez to the Sanctuary Mansion and she was enthralled by the idea of learning more about the various things that the humans had left behind.

So just so you know where she went her brother spent time on a random island somewhere in the pacific then landed in Egypt which from there they went to China and then back to the area north of souls where Ren was born. Thats where they part places and she returns. long post is long :[

Ren smiled at her friends questions. "Well at first we went southwest of here, first by foot then by ship. We spent a month or so on and around a small island since we had been out to see for so long. It was very pretty and warm there, all the she-wolfs beat each other over who would be mated to my brother. Though he showed no intrest. Then when they all saw me they freaked out and kept their distance. They kept calling us Aldrnari Skinn and Logr Barn. It means fire fur and water child. Everyone thought I was some kind of evil seductress sent to drowned any male that came near me.....it was. Much like the world of my pack, hateful and frightened. So after a while we left and spent another long month on the seas. Then we came to this place the humans once called Eegipt. Thats where we saw the great triangles. My brother taught me the art of trade there."

She looked over at the fire, as if recalling many things for a moment. The water kettle went off and she walked over to place it into two cups with hime made tea bags. She then removed the roast from the oven, cutting it up expertly and placing it on two plates with some bread. She offered a cup and a plate to Xeris before grabbing her own and taking her place once more. She took a deep breath and smile back at the woman.

She ate in silence next to the white wolfess. A quiet aura of calmness surrounding her before she finally put her dishes aside and spoke once more. "We were still avoided and stared at as did our business and left. Me and Vulcan alone then traveled to a place north of there. He told me this palce would provide alot of peace and serenity for us. It did. We saw very old temples of the humans. They were beautiful and up high in the mountains. It was there that Vulcan taught me to hunt those who once hunted me. To be a warrior but not one who was angry. Just one who was understanding of everything around her. It was then I told him of everything that happened after he and my sisters left. He also told me about where my sisters were now. That quiet temple where he mostly raised me was a good place to understand the past. To face your demons and al lthe bad things in your life. I rediscovered myself there."

Rendall seemed lost in thought about it all like she was back there in a place she saw as her own sanctuary. She returned to her thoughts. "I then told him I needed to go back home. We spent time traveling from place to place, on a ship of our own crew. I spent time with an older male on that time. exchanging stories and such. Finally we reached the coast far west from here. Vulcan and I left the ship in the old ones possecion and traveled our way back towards my home land. On the way we spent time with a pack and Vulcan found a mate. He asked if I wanted him escort me back here, but I told him to take me only as far as our old packland and I could find my way home from there. So we traveled a few more days and finally we came to the abandoned land that was once our own. A fire happened there and we assumed that the pack had moved on. I must say I fought the urge to hunt Avery downand kill her for what she did. But instead I told my brother to be brave and safe on his way home and from there I left to come here."

it is after 4 AM so I apologize if this post doesn't make sense and/or sucks

The white wolfess listened intently to her friend's recounting of her adventures. It seemed odd to Xeris that Rendall had gone off and done all of these things while she was still so young. She tried to picture the blue-tinted wolfess in all of the different places she mentioned--or at least in what she envisioned those places to look like in her mind--and found it rather mind-boggling. Xeris hadn't had anything like those adventures happen in her life. But then again, did she want to? It was a big and dangerous world out there. Knowing that Xeris could get lost so easily even in the area surrounding Phoenix Valley, she didn't even want to think about what would happen if she ended up in some foreign place alone and confused.

She took the plate of food and the tea that Rendall had prepared, and took a bite of the meat. "This tastes wonderful," she said, smiling. "Did you learn how to cook on your journey, too? You might have to share some tips with me." She was quiet again as she listened to Rendall's continuing tale, and when her friend was finished she spoke up again. "That's incredible," she said, true amazement in her voice. "It must have been quite the experience. But you seem to have benefited from it, and that's good. I hope you'll share your findings with the rest of the Valley, I'm sure they'd be interested in hearing about them."

lol its fine. SSWM word count 449

Ren blushed happily at the femalesreaction to her cooking. “Thank you very much. Perhaps you can teach me something in return.” She always love to learn but to teach was something new to her. She wondered about Noah as well, she wasn’t sure how she was gonna teach him to shift, but a woman who had to teach her pups would perhaps know. She put the thought aside for a moment.

Rendall nodded at Xeris' response, She hadnt thought about talking of the cultures around the world with the pack, however it sounded like it could be interesting. “I would have to talk to Jefferson about it but it sounds fun.” She smiled. She was nervous about the idea of getting up in front of everyone and talking of all the other wolves out there. She had remembered how they feared and shunned her sometimes, how they looked disgustingly at her when she walked around without clothes. She looked over at the simple black dress and nervously tucked her beaded feather back behind her ear. “I doubt they want to hear much of the wolves I’ve met. Most of the areas we went to the wolves were very……fearful of us. They always thought of us as strange I guess. But not all wolves were like just some. When we went north all the wolves I met from there were very nice.”

She remembered the male who gave her the feather. He was a very gentle male. He had green eyes and red fur. His accent was interesting and the way he had talked to her always made her blush. His name had been Adair, he was celtic, quite a nice man. He was large and her brother had left her in his care while he had gone to do business. “One male I remember meeting….I’m sure he could have been a mate for me, but, we didn’t have time to really bond. Anyways, he showed me around his land. It reminded me of back here, it was green and beautiful, it made me homesick.” She chuckled “When we left he gave me this feather, and told me to come see him again one day.” She rubbed the feather gently between two fingers thinking again. “I’m sure Jefferson would be happy to know that there are other places like this one out there.”

The thought of Noah crossed her mind again, she looked over at Xeris kinda shyly. “Hey Xeris? I have a question, a strange one, um…..how do you teach someone to shift? You see I have a friend and well…they don’t know how to and I said that I would teach them but…..I’m afraid I’m not sure how to.”
