The girl blew out softly, her breath moving aside another stray curl that had fallen out of her updo. She was bent over in concentration as her hands moved back and forth. In front of her fragile body lay a matt-like blanket of dried straw and grass woven into neat patterns. Black legs were folded tidily underneath her atop the golden sand of the beach while the ocean rolled lazily in and out carrying seaweed with the current. Ever dared spend another second gazing at the round orb of afternoon sun hung carefully in the sky. Shadows of tall, leafy palms scattered around her form and dotted her face.

It had been hours since she had taken a break from weaving their roof. Her heart skipped a beat awkwardly. Ezra would surely come. He always did around early afternoon to work on their seaside shack. Ever let out a content sigh, watching her hair flicker around her face from the breezes. The length had reached past her hips so she had taken her minuscule dagger and trimmed it back up to mid waist. Red ends had come out surprisingly clean but after spending so much time taming the wild ringlets she decided to throw it up with a piece of thread. But by now, after finishing half a wall of the cabin and entwining more of the roof, it rested loosely on her shoulder and slipped out of the tidiness.

Smells of ocean and wilting earth drifted along the cold breezes. Ever heaved in another breath, enjoying the stinging feeling the frost chilling her chest. She was layered in a sleeveless wrap the color of the sun during sunset. Another flash of heat struck across her face. Every time she was reminded of sunset she thought of her mate. An uneasy stillness was followed. She plunged her hands back into work and listened to the rolling tide to get her mind off it.

Ezra had become more comfortable in his Luperci body. It had taken weeks of transformations and awkwardness for the boy to become comfortable on two legs. It wasn’t that he physically couldn’t walk, quite the contrary, it was just the fact that Ezra had no desire to be a bipedal creature. Ezra soon discovered the Secui form after another messy transformation. He was still on four legs, but he was much larger and able to travel long distances. Mostly for Ever’s sake, he had deliberately chosen to stay in this form in order to be comfortable with the life he was now destined to live. It pained him, but there was nothing he could do about it now.

His shoulder was finally healed. There was an unsightly scar that coursed down his shoulder reminiscent of Ouija’s dirty claws. Looking at that and feeling the three lines on the back of his neck made the boy still scowl in anger at what happened. Ezra had gotten better at not thinking about it, and of course being surrounded by the wonderful distraction of Ever made his life infinitely better. She was always there for him, and Ezra never wanted to spend a moment apart from her. To kickstart their new life together, the two of them had decided to build a home together. It wasn’t nearly close to being finished, so Ezra still returned to his den in the woods, but Ezra used every ounce of strength he had to make the house worthy enough to house his mate.

Ezra had woken up earlier than normal on this particular morning. The boy had spent the morning hunting for Ever. He had caught 4 rabbits on the way to the shore. Being a luperci did had some benefits – hunting was immensely easier. However, after his fourth catch, Ezra had shifted into his optime form in order to build the house better. The smell of the ocean was intoxicating, and Ezra’s mind had a fleeting moment of clarity as he saw his love intently working on the roof. She was so concentrated in her work that she didn’t notice him walk up behind her. Lovingly, the boy took an ivory hand and tucked a fallen lock of her amber hair behind her ear. God, she was so beautiful.
“Hello darling,” he said quietly, giving her silvery cheek a lick.

His touch brought color to her face and movement in her statue-like position. She brought him down to her face for a proper kiss. Her body rose on her knees as the kiss gained intensity while she arched her back. Black hands brought the boy down into the light, cool sand and grabbed the roof, letting it settle on top of them like a blanket. Ever didn’t realize how cold she had been by the ocean breezes until she felt Ezra’s heat against her.

The girl finally released her mate from her grasp and rested her head on his chest. She knew they should be working. It was a lingering thought, cold as the sea water in the back of her mind. All that was important was that he was here. Something about his aura made her feel safe, and when he was gone she felt like he took part of her with him.

Hello,"

Ever said with a delicate smile. By now her hair had been freed of its bonds and lay in perfect ringlets around both their Optime bodies. She traced the fur on his neck with shaking fingers, staring intently out at the discolored ocean against the clear sky. A few wispy tufts of clouds were rolling in behind them and settled in an uneven trail towards the horizon.

She kept forgetting it was winter. Snow hadn’t touched the area yet but Ever could almost imagine the frosty fragrance. Every day more trees creaked with the cold and the earth vented a dying smell. Suddenly her dress felt to revealing to the harsh wind and the youth let a shiver run down her petite form. She looked at Ezra lovingly and continued her pattern along his collar bone.

In an almost direct defiance of the bitter cold wrapping around the couple, Ezra’s body seemed to burst into flames wherever Ever touched him. Without fail her touch brought a euphoric wash over his entire body. Ezra leaned into the touch of his mate, following her pulls with care. He sighed happily after their kiss broke off, enjoying the silence between them. The sand chilled the lower half of his body but he ignored the feeling.

The male looked at the work Ever had done. “Been working all morning?” he asked cheerfully, looking at the roof. In his right hand Ezra remembered about the rabbits that he held by their ears. “I brought lunch,” tossing them to the side like ragdolls. He picked one up and started enjoying his prize. It wasn’t much, but at least it was better than nothing.

It was too perfect. He could tell Ever was stressed about getting the house done before snow hit. It wasn’t the biggest deal in the world; if their house was snowed in, the two of them could fare the winter in his old den. It was quite comfortable now, despite the fact that Ezra had no furniture or clothing for himself. It was big enough for the two of them though, and that’s all that mattered. “I might trek down to Halifax and find some things for the house. What do you think we need?” Everything, but that was beside the point. They had the rest of their lives to fill the house up with treasures.

Ever lifted her head and nodded, confirming she had been working since dawn. The cold ocean breezes raked across her exposed shoulders although the lower half of her body was on top of Ezra. She watched him toss the rabbits into the sand and didn’t fight the warming in her heart.

Thank you,

The girl murmured but made no move to pick on up. She didn’t want to admit she wasn’t hungry because her subconscious knew how hard it was to hunt in the winter. Her hands were sore from weaving the rough grass but she didn’t want to stop. The sooner the couple had their own place, the happier they might be.

Ever let a smile curl her lips when Ezra mentioned Halifax. Like she, he had fallen under the magical spell of human things that were abundant throughout the ruins.

We still need 2 and a half walls, some sort of a covered door, and anything shiny …

Her mind strained to remember what was in Vigilante’s house. Face twisted in concentration, she let herself relax. She was overreacting, but the biting cold was enough to remind her they had to get it done. Even though the shack was starting to look like … well a shack, it was beautiful in her mind and perfect for them.

A bed or something to sit on might be important,

Ocean eyes twinkled and Ever forced herself to look down shyly, fingers strung into strands of sea grass that grew on either side of the two.

let me know what you want to do with the rest of this thread. :] word count: 362

“Relax, love,”

Ezra could tell Ever was the type of woman to get worked up over things easily. He knew she wanted things to be perfect, but he didn’t know how to express his desire for her to calm down. He also didn’t like the sight of his worried mate. That’s when he got worried, because of his injury and how hard Ever took it. Everything was fine now, but every time the silvery girl in front of him got nervous, Ezra was reminded of the time that she didn’t eat for days just so she could take care of him. It broke his heart, it really did. She didn’t have to do that. But he didn’t know how to stop her fussing. He supposed it was just her nature.

The male continued to eat his rabbit, enjoying its succulent taste. Ezra chose to not tell Ever how this meal was caught. The less shifting was brought up, the better their relationship was, at least he felt that way. It would be better to have it slowly be forgotten. Despite the fact that he had to spend a lot of his time in his freakishly tall form due to the house, he learned to like the middle ground shift. It made things a lot easier, and he was still on four legs.

“I’ll get those things as soon as possible, I promise. Something shiny though?” he asked curiously, smiling at his mate’s odd sense of style. “Why would we need something like that?” But before he could let her answer, he went in for another sweet, sweet kiss. He couldn’t get enough of it. Ezra would love to just spend all day lazing around with her, telling stories, and laying in each other’s arms until the sun set. It just seemed too perfect not to.

“Why don’t we take a break from the house for a while. Just hang out, you and me,” he said softly into his mate’s silvery ears. The boy brushed away the last remaining lock in front of her face and tucked it neatly away. “That’s all I want,” he said quietly. It was all he ever wanted.

They could take a walk and maybe come back and work, which is where we could end? Or just chill on the sand :]

His calm voice sent excited shivers down her spine. She couldn’t get enough of him. Luperci muscles pulsed underneath her body and she breathed in the scent of his breath while he talked. Skilled eyes barely caught the worried expression that flashed in Ezra’s discolored eyes. It lasted barely a second but Ever knew it was there.

She hid her own concerned emotions behind a faux relaxed face to loosen him. Her sharp eyes melted when he spoke again about going to Halifax. It wasn’t hard to admit it was a dangerous place but she knew they needed for junk for their home.

I suppose I should,

Her voice came out in a defeated tone, anything to calm her mate down. The whole time she kept her eyes locked on Ezra until his smile rocked her inner core.

He spoke curiously about her requests but before she could even sum up the strength to talk she felt his lips choking off her breath. Warmth spread through her body like a fever and suddenly her world tilted. Her back slapped the cold sand, stealing the breath she had already lost with the kiss. It didn’t occur to that she had fallen off her mate until she could breathe again, quietly gasping.

Embarrassment washed like water over her face and the silver girl decided to lay there until she could speak. Most of her body groaned as she propped herself up on her elbow to face Ezra. She watched his hand brush away a fallen ringlet and laced it with hers carefully. It seemed she was always doing things slowly or carefully around him.

But the second after he opposed continuing working her auburn dusted face fell. She knew they had to get it done before the thicket of winter came and snowed out the house, literally. Looking over her shoulder at their half done shack Ever couldn’t help feeling exhausted already. She also couldn’t help admitting that she and Ezra always had something going on when they met. Now that Heath was gone the silver female was working double at the stables and along with keeping up with her normal rank duties, everything was just so hard.

Laying back in the stiff sand, Ever let the grains consume the edges of her body.

A break sounds nice, we could take a walk or … just stay here.

A sly smile pursed her lips aimed at the sky. The rolling of the waves sounded close in rhythm to the small, wispy clouds slinking across the pure blue surface above them.

He couldn’t understand why she was so wound up. There were so many things that were out of her control that she probably worried about, and it was against Ezra’s nature to worry too much about the things that weren’t going to change because of him. It was a habit introduced to him by his mother, who, after surviving the war between his old family, learned to only take notice of things she was directly involved in. Ezra missed her terribly, but he knew he wouldn’t go back for a long time. He didn’t resent Ever for it, but he knew that choosing her was the reason he couldn’t return to his family. Not to mention she wouldn’t understand them. The Rosen family was very old-fashioned and Ever would probably have to stay in her original wolf body. Ezra surmised his parents would never know about his new life, especially his new luperci addition. There was probably some part of him that wanted to forget about his old life, but there was a constantly resurfacing part of him that wasn’t ready to let go yet.

Letting thoughts of his family go, Ezra watched his mate carefully. After his surprise kiss, she seemed to lose control of herself for a second, falling to the sand. He knew it was stress. She still was always running off to do things that Ezra had no idea about. He didn’t mind, because it gave him ample time to do things by himself, but he always wondered where she ran off to. Ever Mayawyn was always so stressed, and her fragility worried him. She was too precious to him to see her falling apart like this. She did always worry, and it wasn’t healthy. A ludicrous idea popped into his head for a moment – would her body allow her to have pups? It was a horrifying idea, and Ezra quickly shoved it away in a hidden spot of his mind that he never wanted to dig up again. If they were to go down that path, he would make sure she would stop stressing.

Ezra could see she didn’t want to stop working, and to be honest, it irritated the mutt. “We have all the time in the world to build this, and supplies that I need to get won’t come out of thin air love. You and I can just stay at my place until this is done.” Ezra supposed she didn’t like his bare-bones den, but he still loved it. Ezra would make his new home with Ever as simple as possible, just for his own sanity. It was incredibly difficult building a house and he didn’t see the need for frivolous additions to the home that would probably only add stress. It would be fine how it is. If his mate decided to add more things to it, then so be it, but his contribution would be as simple as he was.

“I don’t know if you should take a walk, you just need to relax right here. Take it easy,” he said carefully, not wanting to offend her. Before she could protest, Ezra whipped around his mate’s body and straddled her back, giving her neck a massage. Massages seemed to be the only beneficial thing to having luperci paws, but Ezra didn’t mind. Ever needed this. All he wanted for her was to be happy. If that meant killing herself to build a house, then so be it. But even the house could wait a minute.

She could feel the tension between them as soon as they were separated. Once again he had made it hard for her to reply to what he had said. Instead of saying anything right away, ocean hued eyes stared straight ahead, in this case up. Her vision was full of blue and dotted with a few tufts of white and edged with a slight bit of green on the treetops.

Ever still hadn’t replied to Ezra’s gentle prodding of concern when her view was blocked by his body. She sunk into his touch even though she didn’t want to. He was treating her like she would eventually drown in pieces of their new house.

I do have some self-control.

The silver girl said hotly. She could see it as clearly as the white clouds against the blue sky. Something in his eyes that made her slightly irritated at his response. Was it worry? It was something that made her uncomfortable to only have a sun dress between him and her.

Gently she pushed his hands away from her and stared him down. Ever was surprised how hard it was to hold his bicolor gaze. She could see the ocean reflected in them which only made her stomach lurch. Suddenly it occurred to her that she had nothing to say. As soon as she was up on her knees in front of him, all of her control and anger melted. It was hard to understand why he was so worried about her.

Finally she let her emotions show past her well practiced mask. A skeptical expression was gently placed on her face, muddled with confusion and the slightest amount of hurt.

This is not about the house, so what is it?

She felt wary being able to peel off his own mask and read him like a book she was the author to. It had always been something she either struggled with or enjoyed.

The sand felt warm beneath her legs from where she had laid. She didn’t dare turn around to inspect their house again for it might set Ezra off. He was already irritated at her passionate working. Ever didn’t know why he didn’t want to work on it. It would be their own place, their very own. Somewhere they could both call home. So she knew something else might be bothering him.

Sorry for the delay. I need a thwack sometimes. Can we start a babiezzz thread soon? ;3

Ezra watched his mate carefully, noticing she couldn’t keep his gaze. What the hell was the matter? He had concern for her, and she reacted poorly to it. It confused the mutt. He wanted her to be happy, yes, but he didn’t want her overworked. It confused him. He felt her move away, both physically and emotionally, and block herself from him. There was nothing more frustrating than Ever Mayawyn sometimes, he thought to himself. Ever finally spoke, though, but it didn’t help his mood or what he was trying to accomplish.

Ezra stared her down again, this time an ember of anger In his eyes. “I’m just looking out for you. I just didn’t want you to worry about things too much, love, that’s it,” he said, ending on a note of defeat. She was so beautiful and wonderful, but sometimes he felt like he didn’t truly understand what was going on underneath that beautiful outside cover. “I’m sorry for what I said, I just want to sit with you for a moment. I want… to remember this.. us. How things are looking up for us,” he said slowly, motioning to the house. “I love you,” he said, even quieter than before, and ending his quiet moment of reflection with a lick on the silvery girl’s cheek.

Could I start it sometime next week?

She met his gaze after a moment of silence. The waves washed nearby in a familiar current, stirring up sand and sea shells. Her stomach tumbled over itself when his bicolor eyes filled her vision. Black hands gripped handfuls of sand, straining the grains up with every one of her mate’s words. Finally, the girl let her expression relax which soothed her enough to get words out.

I just did not think starting a family would be so difficult,

Ever answered. Suddenly, he seemed distant. Too far away.

I love you too,

The silver girl said quietly, like he. She really was in love with the male, and appreciated his worrying and attempts at romance. It was steadily becoming quieter between them as Ezra’s life started to grow and expand the more he explored the territory. He was fading from her grasp, which was not okay.

Ever looked him over again, admiring his silhouette against the pale blue sky. He was so gorgeous and all hers. But the tenseness in his muscles tore something inside her. She caused him so much grief and worry. The girl crawled on the sand and into his lap, taking his hand and enlacing it with hers. She brushed her lips on his in a teasing motion.
