The sins of the father

Why could he not accept and revel in this perfect life? Conor knew better than most how important it was to acknowledge what one had while it still was present in one’s life. Regardless, he could not get past the fear that daily ripped through his insides; twisted them around until he was certain the pain was physical. How he feared for his firstborn, the daughter that had turned into a beautiful mix of both parents. It was hard for him, for his heart harboured endless love for this child, but it was a flawed love filled with doubt. He prayed that it was something that would go over. Haku Soul was dead and cold and would never return.

Seated outside, embraced by darkness battling the eerie light of fresh snow, he clutched the small purse given to him by Gabriel de le Poer. Words had not revealed its contents, but the young Soul male knew that it had belonged to his villain father. It had taken him a long time to come up with the courage to decide to open it. Slowly, fingers opened the leather beholder and turned it upside down. The object was heavier than he had expected despite the fact that Conor had carried it along with him in his bag for a good while now. Letting the small pouch fall to the frosted ground, he held up the amulet.

The object seemed oddly warm against his palms, but he discarded it quickly, thinking it was foolish to think such a creepy thought. Conor had never seen Haku wear the lovely necklace, burnt gold chain connected to what he suspected was an opal. The colour was a vivid, deep blue. Beautiful, and the Dahlian thought it odd for Haku to have owned such a thing. Lifting the warm stone up closer for a closer look, lavender peered curiously at the strange charm.

A breath sounded against his ear and the male jerked with surprise, but as he turned to look for what he truly wished to be one of the Stormbringer children or his Bris, he found nothing. Nothing but the porch and the closed door. Cinnamon ears shifted back to lean against his skull. Was he to be scared of the dark now? His mind was heavy and drugged with exhaustion as always—Conor had come no closer to a remedy for his strange sleeping issues, and supposed that it was just his mind playing tricks with him. Allowing a sigh to come forth as he shook his head, he bent down to take up the opal, taking no notice that it seemed cold and lifeless. Getting up on his feet, the Alpha turned and walked into the house, though not before tossing a last glance behind to make certain that there was nothing but empty darkness looming.
