Akita paused and sniffed the air. She was at the entrance to a cave and from what she could smell, there were wolves here. She had been travelling a long time. Akita wasn't from here originally, but she had heard of this land where the wolves ruled from her mother when she was born. At first she had believed them to just be an old nursery tale but then one of her pack members returned from beyond their territory. He left before she had been born and didn't know him. Hiding inside the cave with another sibling she could hear her father's and mother's voices talking. The wolf had told them that their stories were true; there were wolves up in the north that ruled. Akita could hardly believe her ears. From that day on she had wanted to travel north and to live with the other wolves.

Finally, here she was. Or at least she hoped she was. This was the only wolf scent she had picked up so far, though she is sure that there must be many others. With her tail tucked between her back legs she slunk forward, the fur on her neck standing on end. She was frightened, scared that they might not like her or that they might hurt her in some way. Her stomach growled and she was reminded that she hadn't hunted for at least two moons. Where she had lived, they had had a lot of food. The eldest wolf in her pack used to tell her how the old ways were rough. Some packs went for months without a good meal and it was all because of these old beings called humans.

Of course the old wolf hadn't seen them. She wasn't that old, but stories had been passed down through the pack for ages. Akita was curious about these humans but they were long gone and so she had put all thoughts of them away. Besides, from the stories that the old wolf told, humans had been bad creatures that killed and wore wolf furs as second skins.

Thinking about it, Akita shivered and paused again, looking into the cave. The scent of wolves was stronger now but she was too afraid to go any farther.

Sele was getting settled into the area. She had quickly and easily gotten used to the caves. But that could be because there was a maze of tunnels that any who didn't know the area could easily get lost in. She felt protected because of that. Of course she had gone and mapped out a few routes herself. She had to since she had made her home down among the confusing network of connecting paths. But of course she still had to head to the surface from time to time. And this was one of those times. Her pup was running out before her. She was taking him out to play.

"Juju, wait up. Not so fast." She called out to her copper husky child. Her son looked nothing like her since he resembled his father. It was the last tie that she had left to her old life. The only thing she had to remind her of the love that she had lost. So perhaps she was a bit too cautious with him at times. Like now, she didn't want him more than a few steps in front of her. While she felt safe underground she didn't have that same feeling as they made to broach the surface.

"Juju!" She called out to the pup that was approaching three months old when she noticed the head that was poked into the cave. The creamy white female quickly moved to catch up to the pup that had decided to stand up on his hindpaws to try and reach his forepaws up to the trespassing woman's face. It was as Sele moved into the light that leaked into the entrance of the cave that it would be noticed that while she was in her bipedal form she was walking on her hands rather than her feet. But that was simply her method of travel and those that knew her well had become accustomed to it. They had to since she hadn't mastered walking upright on her feet, always getting a sense of vertigo when she tried.

When she caught up to the pup she quickly dropped her feet to the ground in order to sit on her knees sot hat she could pull Juju over to her and deposit him behind her back to keep him safe. Once she had the pup hidden did she focus on the female. "You are trespassing. This land is claimed. These caves as well as the trees surrounding them. What business do you have here?" It was clear that she was wary of the other for she didn't know what the intentions were. But unlike the way some others in the pack would have reacted Sele displayed no aggression towards the other. Rather she had only let her know what she had done wrong and gave her the opportunity to explain herself. There were those that would attack and defend their home without the chance for an explanation to be given. She wouldn't say those in this pack would do it but she had seen it happen before, in another place. She was perhaps one of the kinder few that would be found in this pack, one that wasn't quite as dark and tainted as the rest. Though she had her own defects of course. Especially since she shared blood with everyone that was living in the caves as it was custom to do.

OOC: Thank you and may I ask how you did that for your reply? The picture thing? It looks really pretty Smile

IC: Akita drew back quickly as the pup reached up to her face. She wasn't accustomed to pups seeing how she left her own pack before her mother could bear more. There was another presence in the cave also; a white female. Akita felt no hostility coming from her and so she relaxed a little, letting her fur lie flat against her back.

When the female spoke, Akita's ears swiveled forward to hear her better. She liked the tone of her voice; it wasn't aggressive at all.

I am sorry for causing some alarm.... She hesitated, thinking through her words. I have come a really long way. Back at home I've had heard stories about places like these up north. I wanted to come see them for myself and...and to live here? She looked questionably at the white wolf.

The wolf was beautiful compared to herself. While the female had white fur, she had a sandy brown. The white had blue eyes while she only had a soft amber. Akita's coat was ragged and filthy and in dire need of a wash. She hadn't been aware of what she looked like when it was just her but now she was in the company of some strange wolf and she was fully aware of how she looked. She self conciously bent her head and licked the tufts of fur at her chest, trying to smooth it down a bit more.

OOC here: Table & Coding © Nuki; Thanks hun, someone made it for me. If you go here then you can request for someone to make you a table as well. Optionally you can look here at the studios and see if there is a certain person with a certain style that you like and see if they are open for making requests. Of course the first option is more general for anyone who happens along and feels inspired. And if you haven't already noticed, here someone already has one waiting for you and to get it and use it you hit the quote button to get the code copy everything from the beginning doHTML tag to the other (be sure to copy the brackets they are in as well since that is what makes the html and css work on the boards). Also, if you want you can add 'Leader Needed' to the title, figure that we would make it quick so you can get accepted and start being able to RP all over the boards; 713 words

The relief was clear on Selene's face as the other female pulled back. She knew Juju to just be curious but as a mother she was cautious. She had already lost one son so she didn't want to lose another. Granted the lost son was older and at the age to be on his own but still she had no idea what had happened to him. She had the daughter from that litter with her though. At least she still had family left to help cushion all of the loss that she has felt. And one of those family members was her sister, the leader. So while she was of no real import herself she did have connections. Because of the closeness to her sister she would always have the ear of a leader.

"What was it that you have heard that attracted you?" She was curious about what stories had been circulated. They had only moved into the area a short time ago. Perhaps it wasn't even them that were heard of. Or it could have been the word of someone that had come from the cult that they had left to come over here and start anew. It hadn't been a secret what they were doing and others were welcome to follow but they hadn't. Actually it was just her, her sister, her young nephew, her sister's friend, her daughter, and her own young son that had come from the cult. So that was the six of them that had traveled together from New Brunswick to establish themselves here.

To live here? Hmm, well that wasn't Sele's decision to make. "I will allow someone to know of your request to reside here." the cave system was vast but there were a few well known paths that were traveled often. At least the ones that she used often. There were certain ways that she went, most of the time with her son in tow, and so she turned to him. "Juju, go find Nani or Zale." She said to the pup and watched him eagerly run deeper into the caves. Of course the pup was excited because he had been trusted with an important mission, as well as being allowed to go on his own. It was a hard decision to let Juju out of her sight with no one to watch him but it wasn't like she could go herself and leave this female here by herself. But to make sure others knew to watch out for her child she howled into the caves, letting it echo around and carry through the cavernous space.

She turned back to the other when the child could no longer be seen. "Do you have some special skill to contribute to the pack?" She asked, adding to the conversation to keep it flowing as they were forced to wait. After all it wasn't like Sele was about to leave her spot near the entrance, she wasn't going to give any leeway for someone not of the pack to enter what she thought of as her secure home. She tilted her head as she watched the other attempt to pretty herself. "Don't worry, the leaders are females themselves. Not too certain that they are actually attracted to other females." Sele wasn't an obsessive groomer surprisingly enough. Though she had her other customs that she believed in and was compulsive about. Such as her gris gris, the bag of herbs, tightly cinched about her neck and the rusted skeleton key that rested atop it. Those where things that she never removed. Juju had his own gris gris that Sele forced him to wear. She was big on protection and the charms that were said to protect.

"I'm Selene, who are you?" She figured that she may as well introduce herself to a prospective member. "I should warn you that your choice to live here means you are swearing yourself to the family. There is a ritual where blood is shared. Your blood combined with our blood makes you our sister. Are you willing to do this to join the family?" It was something expected of all new members. She had to make sure that the other was willing to sacrifice a piece of herself to become whole.

Akita watched as the pup left and then turned to the female. Just that this was the place where wolves walked and ruled. The stories may have been a little embellished by the wolf that told it. My name is Akita. She blushed a little and stopped preening herself.

It wasn't that she was trying to attract a mate. She was just afraid that the other wolves would think of her as a trashy wanderer and not take her in.

She perked up at the questioning of her skills. She was an excellent hunter, though she did not look the part. She was also very responsible. True, she was young, but she had a good head on her shoulders and was very intelligent. Of course, she didn't want to say all this because she didn't want to seem like she had a big ego. Akita was humble and always tried to do what was right for others.

I'm a fairly good hunter. And I'm responsible. She said, her head dipping a little.
I used to take care of my other siblings back home. They were often getting into trouble. She smiled a little at the memories.
And I do not mind losing a little blood to gain a family. There was a small gleam in her eye as she said this. The idea of being part of a family excited her. Back home, her pack was just a pack. There really was no affection. The pups were there to carry on the line and to help hunt later on. Even her own mother was with them for a very short time while they stayed in the cave. "speech"

The words had her grinning a bit. Walked and ruled, huh? That sounded nice. Surely Nani and the others would enjoy that piece of knowledge. With these forms they were all gods in their own right, given an image that the gods had and able to rise above those who were forced to walk on four paws only. Or so the teachings had said so. And with those kind of teachings who wouldn't enjoy hearing that they were said to rule. She nodded her head to show that she was listening. "I am sure that there are those here that would enjoy the embellishment." She certainly found it amusing to say the least.

Sele wasn't one to really think much about appearances. They were living underground so they were destined to get dirty. And well she walked on her hands which others found odd. Then there was her missing son that would color himself any odd assortment and arrangement of colors. Because of all that appearances mattered little to her. It was the abilities that really shone forth, at least to her. What could be brought to the table was more important than the person sitting at the table.

"That should really be appreciated. We have a few pups running around." There was Juju and Scorpius who were at the age to start eating meat and then there were the recently born ones. The mother might enjoy an easy meal to be brought to her. "We have a few ranks available though you don't have to worry about that right now. It is more important that you get settled in before you decide how you want to contribute to the pack, to the family." She smiled and nodded her head, glancing back into the caves before looking back to the other. "We live underground here. There are many paths and it is easy to get lost. It takes some exploration to get an understanding of the system but there are many caves that you can choose from to stay in."

"I love pups." Akita smiled. She tilted her head and studied the female wolf more closely. She liked her. Selene seemed nice and not at all like some of the wolves back at home. She shivered as she remembered her own father. He was always in a grumpy mood no matter what. She hoped that if she ever found a mate he wouldn't be like that.

"Who did your pup go to find? If I may ask..." She was curious and slightly suspicious. Akita didn't want to be ganged up on, not after her long journey. She was very tired and starving. Plus, she was curious about living under the ground. She had never seen any wolf live underground before.

"We have one that is older that is nearing six months, two that are starting to eat meat, and three more that have just recently been born." So they had varying stages of life. Each with their own personality traits but all that could use food and caring for. They all needed to be tended to. So far her sister and herself had been sharing responsibility over their own pups. But they had simply been doing that for awhile. They would watch each other's young while some other task had to be taken care of.

Once again she glanced into the darkness of the caves, trying to listen and look for her son or any other that might be coming. But the question regained her attention and had her smiling. "He went to go look for the leaders. It is their blood that you will share to become part of us." At least she was hoping that Juju hadn't gotten distracted along the way. She didn't think he would because he knew he wouldn't get trusted to go by himself again for awhile. Or be given other important tasks to undertake because he had failed at his one chance to prove himself. Failed at the chance to show that the lessons had actually paid off and he was actually listening while being talked to.

"As I said the cave system is quite large and there are many places that they could be." That was if they were even inside at all. For all she knew they might be out in the forest or in the lands beyond. Though with Sele still settling in she hadn't traveled from the claimed lands yet. She spent more time exploring underground than actually moving about the surface. She didn't feel at ease enough or settle in enough to spend too much time above ground where the area was unprotected, at least in her mind it was unprotected.

Hey there! Welcome to 'Souls! Big Grin[html]

She had been working on her notes again, scribbling in the particular notebook that held the beginnings of a map of the area. The other books, which were scattered on the den floor around her, would contain the information she collected on the other packs. So far, they were rather empty. Cold golden eyes were focused intently on the pages held in her lap, but Azalea cast her gaze towards the cold cave hallway that connected her room to the rest of the cave system. Before the pup had actually arrived, it was clear by the sound of his light footfall he was headed for Azalea.

"What is it?" Her voice was cold and direct, and the stray lock of onyx hair fell to obscure one golden eye. It seemed as if most of the members of Anathema knew to keep away from Azalea, for she was generally unpleasant to deal with. Juju, however, sought the Rakeeb for a matter entirely out of his paws. His mother was at the borders with a loner seeking to join, and since Juju had been unable to locate Naniko (whom most likely had wandered outside of Anathema’s borders for the day) it was up to Azalea to assess whether the newcomer was worthy of their family. Putting her notebook to the side, Azalea rose to her feet and followed little Juju through the maze of the caves.

It did not take long for the young leader to come across Selene and an unfamiliar face near the entrance that connected the caves to the outside world. Golden eyes, cold despite their warm tone, scrutinized the girl. "Who is it we have here, Selene?" She did not look forward to the blood sharing ritual, but if the girl proved worthy, it would be something Azalea would have to perform. Time would tell.

Selene was finally able to relax again once Juju was back at her side. The pup climbed onto his mother's lap once he had led Azalea to where Selene was waiting. The child looked quite proud of himself for being able to accomplish the task all on his own. Sele smiled and scratched between Juju's ears in silent praise for a task well done. She looked away from her child that had curled up peacefully to the leader that had been found.

Just as others had to get used to Sele walking on her hands she had gotten used to Zale's gruff nature. The coldness in the eyes that peered over at them didn't bother her at all. Why should it when she was entirely used to it? "This here is Akita. She says she has heard stories of how we rule and that is what brought her here. She claims to be a fairly good hunter as well as responsible." Sele gave the basic run down of the conversation that she had had with the other female while waiting. She wasn't sure if Azalea would have more questions or not.

Since the leader was here Selene shuffled on her knees to move out of the way to allow Azalea to take over. After all it wasn't like Zale could get a proper look at the prospective member if Selene remained in the way. With one of the leaders here Selene didn't feel as if she had to guard the entrance any longer. She knew that the dark woman would be able to handle things. Knew that the other wouldn't allow someone that wasn't worthy inside. Instead she could focus on Juju. "Don't worry, we are still going out as soon as things here are done." She told the pup that was looking up at her.

Akita dipped her head in greeting as she was introduced. She was younger than both of these wolves and felt childish in their presence. She desperately wanted acceptance. This new wolf, most likely a leader, seemed cold and harsh. Akita wished that it was Selene who could let her in.

"I can do anything you need, really" she quickly added after Selene's little introduction. She bit her tongue, wondering if she should be speaking at all.

Welcome to Anathema! :] I hope that you got my PM, I apologize for the wait on this. I thought that things were under control during my absence. Feel free to post anywhere now, as I went ahead and titled you up!

The female swept upon the scene quickly, listening to the explanation from her sister Selene and to the newcomer's response. "I'm Naniko D'Angelo, the Angela here. If my sister trusts that you would do well here, then I believe her." Selene was a smart wolf, and Naniko didn't feel that she would be promoting a joiner who would do the pack wrong.

"There's only one thing left in your joining process." She said. The shifted wolf pulled her dagger from her belt, making a slice across one of her fingers. "We must share blood and come together as one." She reached for the appendage of the other wolf, aiming to make a similar mark on her so that they might rub them together and join blood.

She looked to her sister as Nani made her way over. While Sele didn't hold much power rank wise in the pack she did have the ear of the leader. Responsibility over their pups were shared between them so she knew that she could always go to Nani for anything. She smiled as her sister praised her. But then again it wasn't like Sele would want anyone in the caves that would endanger her pup. Juju was her life now. He is what mattered to her, as well as Nani and her son Scorpius. They were the remnants of the past chapter of her life.

Juju moved over to Nani as his aunt come over. His tail wagged excitedly as he made to try and rub up against her legs in greeting. And of course he looked behind Naniko to check for his cousin, Scorpius. Not seeing the other right there he looked up at Nani in silent question of where Scorpius was. Sure, the boy could speak but he was remaining quiet because he knew what was going on was something of importance even if he couldn't understand exactly what he was. He also knew his mother would keep true to her promise and that as soon as it was all over he could run around and play all he wanted until it was time to head inside.

She watched the acceptance process, waiting for the blood to be passed between the two so that Akita was officially part of the family. "I had promised to take Juju out to play. You can join us if you wish." She extended the offer to the newly accepted female. "I can show you the borders out here in the forest. Unless you want her to see the caves first." While the first line had been directed to Akita then one that came next was given to Nani. She looked up at her sister as she spoke to her. "Did you want to take her to see the caves? Or were you not headed that way?" After all Sele didn't have the power to say what should be done. She only knew that she had to keep her promise to Juju since he had been so good and quiet through this process.

My apologies, Riley![html]

She would have not denied the girl entry into the pack, the family. After all, the flattery stroked Azalea’s ego and she was instantly grinning wickedly at the words Selene spoke. Plus, the girl seemed to have some skills she could contribute to Anathema. If only for the sake to gain strength in numbers, she would be allowed to stay. "Wonderful," the girl said in response to Selene’s words, letting gold eyes travel from the Iblis over to Akita. The only thing left was to perform the blood sharing ritual, and then Akita would be always considered a part of the Anathema family.

And yet, before Azalea had the chance to say much more, Naniko came upon the scene. Though Azalea was a sub-leader of the pack, Naniko was the true leader. Despite her desperate hunger for power, the coal colored girl had a strange, but unique relationship with Naniko. She took a step back, letting the Angela take the spot light. Naniko would take over from here, Azalea assumed, and so she turned back to head into the caves. Stopping just inside, however, Azalea let her golden gaze find Naniko as the blade of her knife came down across her finger. As long as the girl was willing to offer her own hand in order to combine blood, then everything would go according to plan and Anathema would have its newest member.

Azalea grinned to herself, before turning to head into the maze of tunnels underground. She would continue to work on the notes she had been preparing when Juju had found her, but the thought of a new member gave the girl a new sense of confidence in her pack.

its ok! Big Grin Sorry I haven't replied in awhile too. Christmas and all that lol

Akita dipped her head lower and changed forms swiftly. It did hurt a little but she ignored it. The girl was 5"7 with long, curly brown hair. Her eyes were the same as her wolf form, a warm golden hue. Her skin was a warm caramel color. Her body was lean and well built with a thin layer of muscles. She held out her own fingers eagerly. Akita gave Nani a smile.

"Thank you for accepting me into your family. I know that I will do my best to help." Akita said. She was happy that she had a new family and couldn't wait to see the territory. The caves sounded interesting and the forest looked fresh. Her old home had just been a small portion of woods with little game. Akita was thankful that she had found the D'Angelos.

Oh, no problem at all :] Slight powerplay with the cut and holding their hands together. And short post from me!

She would have taken a paw had it been offered, but Akita chose to shift. Naniko hoped that it wouldn't make her too weak; shifting usually made her very tired and lethargic afterward. She made a quick and shallow cut along the finger of the newcomer, pressing her own against it and holding it there. It was done.

By the time she looked back Azalea was off, and she pulled her hand away and offered the new pack member a deep nod. "Welcome. If you'll follow us back into the caves I'm sure we can find you somewhere to stay that's to your liking." She wanted to get back and check on Scorpius again anyway.

OOC here: Table & Coding © Nuki; And Sele is out; 308 words

She had figured that Zale would like those words. It even made Sele feel warm inside. To be thought so highly of was a blessing indeed. Perhaps they really would flourish her. They would certainly have to try to live up to the legend. To try and show that what this girl had heard wasn't wrong at all. Perhaps they were different from the norm but that is just what made them who they were. That is what separated them from the other packs. They referred to themselves as family rather than just some other pack. They made themselves family. Certainly none of the other packs could compare to that.

She watched as Azalea took off and nodded to her, bidding her a silent good day. She stayed long enough to watch the ritual performed and listened to her sister's words. So Nani would be taking her around then. That would work for her. With the proceedings having ended she looked to Juju. "Now we can go." She spoke the words to the pup and allowed him to bounce out into the snow. She got up and pushed herself up onto her hands to follow after him.

"Not too far Juju." She called after her son. His eagerness made her smile but at times it tired her out as well. There were occasions that he had far too much energy for her to keep up with. And he really enjoyed being outside more than staying, something that Sele still wasn't comfortable with yet. But still he needed out to get his exercise. Just because she wanted to be a recluse didn't mean that she should force that on the pup as well. That meant these excursions were in order though she always remained in the area of Anathema. She had yet to let him out across the borders.
