A strong burst of wind collides with Alaki as he lifts his head slowly with a stiff, nervous movement, his fur rippling from the strength of the wind. He waits for it to calm down, then with a quick sniff he tests the air, checking for any danger. Carried by the wind was the scent of wolves, a sure sign that he was getting closer and closer to his destination. But were they a threat to him? The closer he got, the harder he found it was to move his legs, doubts weighing down upon his mind. Was this a good idea? Will they accept me? Do I truly want a pack?

After a slow, drawn out walk, an unusual cave structure comes into sight, “Beautiful and ominous” he whispers to himself as he observes his surroundings. With practised precision he locates all the plausible entrances and the quickest escape routes. One particular entrance seemed promising if he wanted to get noticed, but Key still found himself holding back, afraid to take another step towards the caves. Frustrated, he throws himself to the ground, both paws covering his muzzle “Baka, baka, baka! Just move, you’ve got your escape routes, what are you scared of?!”. With a boost of confidence he silently stalks up to the caves, staying hidden whenever and wherever he could.

Finally he stops outside the 'promising' entrance, his posture relaxed and neutral, his tail pinned into place. “Now what wise guy?”.

OOC here: Table & Coding © Nuki; Hello and welcome to 'Souls. Figured I would toss Sele here since she will be not so aggressive towards the trespassing; 398 words

What was it with others nowadays? This is the second day that she had caught some newcomer, some trespasser poking around the caves. The scent border encompassed the trees as well. To reach the caves you would be walking upon claimed lands. There were those that were more likely to rip out throats instead of hear an excuse as to why the borders were ignored. But luck would have it that Sele had been the one to stumble upon the wolf in the wrong. She wasn't as cold or aggressive as some of the others were. She didn't outwardly show any darkness or taintedness that most of those housed within the caves seemed to have.

"This land is claimed." Selene spoke up as she approached the other, moving through the trees to reach the caves so that she could get home. "What is you intention in trying to enter my home?" She asked as she seen how close the other was to the entrance of the underground dwelling. "The borders began back in the trees. Is there a reason that you have ignored them and penetrated pack lands?" Her voice lacked aggressiveness, instead her questions came from pure curiosity. She wasn't sure who was at home but knew there were a number of pups that lived underground, her own at her side.

The female was in her bipedal form but rather than walking upright on her feet as one would think of as the common way to travel she was upside down and walking on her hands. But that was just a common occurrence with her. It was just how Sele traveled about and took others some getting used to. Traveling at her side was her pup, with looks resembling a copper husky more than the wolf that made up half of his blood, and he was dragging a freshly killed rabbit by the ears. The spilled blood of the prey animal colored the trail in the snow that had been made and showed the way that had been traveled. Selene stopped and placed a hand out behind Juju, for the pup was walking backwards to be able to pull and tug on the bunny, to stop him as well. She made sure that space was kept between them and the unknown male as she stared at him and waited for him to state his business and purpose.

Thanks, it’s good to be here ^^ I tossed around the idea of waiting by the border but I think just waltzing in fit’s Key’s personality more Big Grin Or it at least makes things more interesting ~

In Character

A clear, somewhat calming voice brought Key out of his day dream. He turned in a lazy, relaxed manner in the direction in which the voice had come from to see a . . . unexpected sight. Through the trees appeared two figures, one a copper colour whilst the other in contrast was a clear white. Much like the voice in which the female had spoken in, her appearance was calming, pure and white or so Alaki thought. A small movement to her side drew his attention, it was a young pup dragging a bloody bunny; the pup was small compared to himself Key noted. Having never met any canine younger then he the small one fascinated him, it was then he noticed that the female walked upon her hands.

Titling his head to the side he paused in silence, his eyebrows raised slightly, giving the white female a long questioning look. It was not the fact that she walked upon the hands that was on Key’s mind, but the question of whether he too could do it, for it looked entertaining. And so, after assessing the scene before him, Alaki lifted his shoulders in a slight shrug and got up to his feet.

Understanding that the female and small one may be uncomfortable with him being so close to the entrance Key tried to, in an attempt to show that he meant no harm, move carefully away from the entrance whilst keeping his distance from and keeping the two in his sight. But as usual and much to Key’s dismay, things never go as he plans. As he steps back slowly his paw connects with a loose rock which throws him off balance, resulting in a rather dramatic trip and roll, covering him in dirt and other debris which was upon the ground. Thoroughly embarrassed, he attempts to save himself some face and so he gets up quickly and continues moving as if nothing ever happened, hoping the two spectators do not comment or laugh at his little moment.

Once satisfied there was enough distance between him and the entrance, he sat back down in silence and continued to stare at the two. The words the female spoke confused him: she had accusing him of trespassing even though he had not entered the cave or their ‘home’ as the female had put it. Jay had said that trespassing was when you entered someone’s ‘home’, so surely the female was falsely accusing him?

Bringing his eyebrows together in confusion he resisted the urge to respond to her questions with a not-so-smart comment. But try as he might he could not find the words to say to her, with a loud sigh he decided to answer as honestly as he could and hope she did not take his words in a rude manner.

“I know not of the borders, so I did not choose to ignore them. But if I have done something wrong than I offer my apologies. I picked up the scent of other wolves and followed it to here” he paused, thinking over what he said and added in a quiet voice “I was hoping to join the pack of this area . . .”

OOC here: Table & Coding © Nuki; Heh, that is understandable. Have to stay true to the character's personality; 702 words

While Juju had not caught the bunny all by himself he was still proud of it. That was because he got to be the one to bring it back to Scorpius. He was eager to share the meal with his cousin. To show off what he had helped to accomplish on his trip out. Though when he felt himself back into his mother's hand he dropped the bunny's ears and turned his head to look up at her before realizing that she was talking to someone else. To some guy that had never been seen before. As much as he wanted to investigate he stayed back, not wanting to get in trouble. His mother could prove to be strict about safety.

Sele was unable to remain on her feet, she always got a sense of vertigo and fell. She had not problems traveling on her hands though. But that could be because her head was kept low to the ground. Either way she hadn't learned to be able to walk as others walked. And well, she wasn't all that talented it shifting so she tended to just stay in her bipedal form all of the time and moved around the way that she knew how. Besides, with the superstitions about footprints she didn't have to worry about any ill will being cast against her since she didn't leave any footprints behind, only handprints.

When the other had fallen Sele quickly forgot her wariness and caution in lieu of her motherly instincts. Juju wasn't her only child for she had a couple of older ones as well. When the other fell she quickly moved forward to check on him. "Are you okay?" She asked, the concern clearly in her voice and on her face. She dropped her feet to the ground only to be able to sit on her knees so that she could reach out a hand to him to check on him. Blue eyes quickly scanned the other's body in order to make sure that he hadn't been harmed. She wasn't a healer herself so that was nothing that she could so should an injury have occurred but that didn't stop her from caring. And since Sele had moved close Juju took his time in dragging the rabbit over. It took little jerks for him to get the animal to move but he was determined to make it by himself. The small boy already displaying signs of independence.

"The scent, where you picked up on it in the trees marked the border. Moving past that is dangerous. There are those that live here that have little patience. The scent is there as a warning. To be careful and not enter unless invited or you want to risk your life." With the number of pups, of varying ages, that lived here then it was highly likely that the territory would be defended should someone else have caught him. Sele tried to stay away from violence though. Not that she could fight so well anyways. Actually she felt pretty useless to the pack since she'd rather spend her time underground where she felt secure rather than getting out and around others. But still she had Juju to think about and had to go to the surface to hunt and to allow him to play. If not for him she would most likely be a hermit.

"I am Selene. Who are you?" She asked before glancing over at Juju to check on him. He was still tugging away at the rabbit, getting it closer and closer to the entrance of the cave. "That is my son, Juju." She said, introducing the pup as well. Once she was sure that her child was okay she looked back to the other. "Is there any certain reason that you want to live here? Any special skills or something that you can contribute to aide the pack?" She was curious to know if this one had heard about them from someone else as well. The one before had said she had heard stories so Sele wanted to know how far these stories might have traveled. Of course just having stumbled upon the scent markings couldn't be discounted either.

The concern shown by the female was startling. Key could not figure out why she would show such kindness, especially to one which she had just accused of trespassing. Did she want something from him? Was it a trick and she was to lead him into a trap? Had he already been deemed useless? Or was she pitting him and laughing at him behind her kind exterior? As a reflex reaction to his suspicions, Key tensed his muscles and double checked all the escape routes. Considering that he may just be being paranoid he tried to calm himself, trying not to flinch as the female reached out a hand towards him.

Thankfully he was not the subject of her attention for long, curious to see what had caught her attention he looked towards where she was and saw the small one dragging the bunny behind him with great determination, so much determination that Key could only sit and admire the effort the small one was putting forward.

Sadly, he only managed to avoid the ‘spot light’ for a small amount of time before the female spoke to him again. What the female then spoke of only added to his confusion: this ‘border’ thing is something that surrounds their home, so is their home the entire area within the ‘border’? How many of them are there to need so much space?! A home is a place where one sleeps, that’s what Jay said. They all must like their leg room or something. And a scent as a warning? How unusual. The thought of such things brought a shy, sheepish grin to Key’s face. Such a strange pack!

Then Key recalled the last part of what the female had said. ‘To risk your life’ . . . If only death were so simple he pondered. Alaki’s ‘advanced’ survival skills which Jay had drilled into him hindered all of his past suicide attempts; after Jay’s death he had been determined to follow after him, to die with him: he did not want to be alone. Yet, thinking about it now, it was because of these ‘skills’ that he was still alive and healing from his loss, if somewhat slowly, which was a good thing. . . possibly. But still, he was reluctant to acknowledge his ability to defend himself or escape if out numbered, as well as his ability to ruthlessly and cleanly dispose of those who mean him harm. But nevertheless, it was all he knew, all he was taught and all he could do, so he had to accept it as who he was.

Following her explanation of ‘borders’ the female introduced herself. She claimed to be called Selene, whilst the small one was her son Juju. One of the few manners Key was aware of, is that if someone introduces themselves it is polite to do so back. Shifting so that he had eye contact with Sele he respond with a simple “I’m Alaki” pausing after for the female, Sele, to continue.

Yet, the questions she asked next were not what he expected. Then again, he had no idea what to really expect, but the questions Sele asked seemed reasonable so again he choose to answer as honestly as he could. “A reason? I have no specific one, but if it were to be anything it would be that I like the area. I merely happened across the scent when I was looking for a pack to join and followed it” he said. But re-thinking it over, maybe he was being abit blunt and potentially rude? But too little to late, he had said the words and so he choose to address the second part of her question. “As for skills, my skills are my thoughts. I suppose you could say I’m good with puzzles and strategies”. Key decided it best to leave out his fighting skills for he did not want to come across as a threat. But feeling nervous avoiding the whole truth he fidgets a little and shifts his gaze to the distance.

OOC here: Table & Coding © Nuki; You can edit and add that a leader is needed to your thread title just so that they know; 591 words

Sele had always been more of a kind spirit. One that felt extreme guilt when she was the cause, even if it were inadvertently, for someone's injury. It had happened before when she was younger, her sister could attest for it. She had to go to her sister to explain what she had done, why her leader had been hurt and needed Nani's attention. He had been saving her from the wild cat and had fallen into the river and had gotten sick. It was all her fault. If she hadn't been out there then he never would have gotten hurt. If she hadn't called for help then no one would know. Granted she wouldn't be here today but perhaps that was the way thing should have been. So no, the worry she felt was genuine and already she was blaming herself. What would the others say if she had put at risk a potential, useful member?

Seeing the other tense up as she had reached for him she quickly dropped her hand to her lap. Her head dropped as well so the she could focus on her hands which had gotten dirty from walking on them. He couldn't be blamed. Why would anyone want to be touched by someone with dirty hands? She had been lucky to find one that would allow it but he was gone now. He had been killed for reasons that were unknown by an unknown person. But it can believed that Sele had found some way to blame herself for it.

Once Juju had gotten close enough she reached out to pick up Juju and the bunny, bringing them both around to her lap. Of course the pup didn't like being interrupted from his quest and wiggled to get away but Sele held tight to him. "You can have the rabbit back. I'm just going to hold it for now. Remember that important mission you went on the day before? I need you to do that again. Go find Nani or Zale." Once she gave her instructions she released the pup and watched him dash into the cave to do what she asked.

With her son gone she glanced up at the male briefly before looking down to the rabbit that she found herself clinging to. Even though she had sent the boy away there was still the feeling of abandonment. What if something happened and he didn't return? Or he didn't want to return? They were silly thoughts but ones that she had when Juju was out of her sight. He was what she had left from her mate, looking just like his father.

She forced on a smile as she focused on the male in front of her again, though her hands busied themselves with cleaning off the rabbit. "We are a family here. We share the same blood. Would you be willing to do that? To share blood with us and become a brother?" It really wasn't a big deal, only a small cut on his paw and the paw of the leader that showed up for the blood to be shared and mingled together. "We have this forest to hunt in freely and sleep underground in a vast cave system. It shouldn't be a problem for you to learn your way and stay away from the dead ends. With the number of unexplored caves you would be free to pick your own." At least since he said he was good at puzzles she figured that mazes would be easy for him.

In Character

Eventually the pup, Juju, had caught up to his mother only to loose the rabbit he had been so desperately dragging. Watching the pup wiggle and attempt to retrieve the rabbit humoured Key, for no apparent reason he found the situation the pup was in simply hilarious. The more he saw of the small one the more he liked the pup, Juju intrigued him. But his humour was short lived; the female sent the small one away to locate others. Suspicions of a trap reared themselves back up and Key sharpened his senses, preparing himself for an attack. Yet, despite his strong belief that logically, this ‘Selene’ was a threat, he could not see her as one. Such irrational thoughts irritated him, he should not be thrown off by the kindness she had shown, she was a potential threat until proven otherwise. He could feel his eyebrows draw together in a frown, what was he to believe?

In silence he watched as the pup disappeared into the caves, taking his time to turn back to Selene. When he eventually turned to the female again something was clearly different, the smile she showed was no longer filled with kindness but forced, stiff. Alaki watched as Selene busied herself with cleaning the rabbit she had stolen from the small one and listened to her speak in her calming voice once again. She spoke of the pack’s joining, how they shared blood and by sharing blood they became family, this seemed practical and logical to Key. Having little to no experience with packs Key accepted her words as if they spoke for all packs. A slight, tense smile fell upon his lips, unsure whether to be weary or relaxed around Selene. “Yes, if you would have me” he responds, dipping his head slightly and relaxing his posture as best he could. A family . . .

Taking in his surroundings once again calmed him further. He knew that even if this was a trap he would be okay, but as an extra precaution he kept his senses sharp and stayed attentive of the area as he sat and listened to Selene speak of the family’s ways.

Much of what she spoke of was new to Key, but what interested him the most was the caves. Alaki liked caves a great deal; caves were great for ambushes, traps, pranks, isolation and disposing of things, they are hidden away with multiple entrances and go deep underground. In many caves it was easy to loose your way and even easier to loose others in, each cave was unique, it’s paths connecting to each other in illogical patterns, sometimes a cave has a repetitive pattern which then twists into a random string of small ‘rooms’ and pathways. Caves were safe, familiar, something Key understood and had experience with.

Sele tried so hard to keep the darkness contained within her mind and not allow anyone to know of it. It wasn't as if it would turn against others. No, it was merely self destructive. If not for Juju, as well as Scorpius at times, to care for then she would have probably given into it already. Though she already knew the pups would be taken care of should something happen to her. She knew that Nani would keep Juju and raise him. After all they passed off their sons to each other to watch over and care for while the other was busy. But still, when Juju wasn't in immediate eyesight she was more susceptible to the dark thoughts.

"It isn't my place to accept you. Juju has gone to find a leader for you to speak to. It is up to them whether or not you can stay." From what he said about puzzles Sele imagined that he could help map out the cave system. She had done some exploring on her own. She had to in order to find a cave for her and her son to stay in. And of course she had to explore the ares around the chosen cave so that she knew Juju would remain safe.

"Have you traveled far to get here?" She asked only to keep up conversation while they waited. It was better than letting things slip off into complete silence. If that happened then she would be alone with her thoughts and that really wasn't such a good thing. Not that it would do any harm for those around her. It simply made her wish to punish herself for all the wrong that she had felt she had done to those around her. Of course most of those were imagined and no harm or wrong doing had actually been done but she couldn't see it that way.

Understanding of why Selene had sent Juju calmed him little, but he was beginning to relax more around the female before him. Due to his upbringing Key was not used to socializing with others, he found it awkward and uncomfortable, believing that everyone had an ulterior motive and that kindness hid lies. He was often blunt, withdrawn and too observant, many in the past had taken offense due to his words and so he gave up trying to communicate and get along with others and yet here he was, speaking more than he had in a long time with a complete stranger who he thought may be leading him into a trap. Something about this female made him respond to her questions and relax slightly in her presence. Key considered if he had hit his head in his earlier fall in hope that that would explain why he was lowering his guard around Selene.

Alaki nodded to show he understood why Juju had been sent away, his ears moving forward to listen to the female as she spoke once again. She asked of his travels and so he decided to answer her. ”I have been alone for a long time, travelling by whim in random directions. I lost track of where I was along my journey but overall I believe I have not travelled far.” He responded, his tail flicked side to side in a quick movement then stilled.

Naniko had been deep within the packlands, but somehow the pup had been able to find her. The female often found herself exploring the inner-most reaches of Anathema, seeking out new passageways and tunnels, and had been curiously poking around some of the western tunnels. As soon as Juju had notified her she'd turned around to come back out, but it had taken her a bit to reach Selene and the new wolf.

She approached quickly and quietly, looking to her sister. Selene was one of the wolves that she trusted most with the pack; from what Juju had told her, Naniko felt that her sibling had made the correct choice with wanting to seek approval for this newcomer. They would welcome any and all.

The shifted female looked down upon the two with jade eyes, sliding her dagger from her belt and making a quick cut along her palm. "Welcome to Anathema." She held this out this to the stranger quietly, wishing to make a similar cut on him as well.

OOC: Word count: (94) - - ^^ Thanks for accepting

Alaki watched as the new female approached. Like Selene she was a beautiful white, but staring out were jade eyes. He watched as she pulled out a dagger and made a small cut across her palm. Remembering Selene’s earlier words, Key assumed that the one before him was one of the pack’s leaders and that she was initiating the joining.

Shifting to his Optime form he silently offered his palm to the female, his eas pinned backwards and eyes towards the ground in a submissive way. From his lips a muffled “Thank you” escapes.

She had been alright with taking a paw, but a hand was offered to her instead and she took that just as readily. She made a small and shallow cut on the male's palm, taking his hand with her own and holding them together. They were now sealed with blood, blood-family. He would always be welcomed back to Anathema even if he went astray and left, as he was now a member of the family.

"Welcome to the pack." Naniko released his hand, looking to Selene next. "Good job with finding this one, sister. Show him around, would you?" She gave both of them and Juju a nod before turning back toward the inner workings of the pack's lands, the tunnels, disappearing into the woods beyond.

OOC here: Table & Coding © Nuki; It is up to you if you want to just end this with it saying that Sele showed him around or if you actually wanted her to since you already messaged about another thread; 504 words

She nodded her head in response to his words. She had gone through that period in her life where she had went looking for her father. But that had been awhile ago. She had come to the old Souls territory but had ended up moving on. From that time on she had spent it in New Brunswick. She had been happy during that period of her life. Though now that chapter had ended and she was starting over here. Ideals of what Selene had been used to were being put in place here with her sister at the head of it. That certainly made it easier to deal with. It was a new location, new scenery and faces to get used to, but she didn't have to abandon her beliefs. She had family nearby so it eased the transition. But still tragedy wreaked havoc on the mind.

When Juju returned, with her sister in tow at that, she reached out for the pup to pick him up and place him on her lap. Of course Juju was only interested in the rabbit. He had done what was asked of him and wished to reclaim his prize now. He grabbed the rabbit by the ears and climbed off of Selene's lap so that he could go back to dragging the dead animal into the tunnels so that he could share it with his cousin.

Selene allowed for him to go, knowing that with the weight he was dragging and the jerking movements that he had to make to get it to move that he wouldn't get too far ahead. She smiled, a genuine smile, up at Nani as she was offered a small bit of praise after the male had been accepted as part of the family. It made her feel useful. That maybe it wasn't a mistake for her to tag along as Sele had been worrying about. Though she still had those times that she felt like a burden to her sister, to the rest of the family. She was able to care for herself and her son, as well as her nephew, but she didn't really contribute anything else.

She watched her sister walk off then turned her attention to the male. "Come on, I will show you around the tunnels first so you can pick out your own cave." She spoke the words before moving around to place her hands on the ground in order to be able to pick up her feet and walk on her hands. She nodded her head, making motion to follow as she entered into the tunnel system. She easily caught up with her son and made to follow him so that she could watch him. "We have to stop by my sister's den first because Juju wants to show off the rabbit to Scorpius." She called the words back to Alaki. She hoped that he wouldn't mind too much. It might even help him for him to know where one of the leaders stayed at.
