Dated January 5.

Digging, Enzo decided, was something that he did better than either of his siblings. Tony and Lorenzo wrestled plenty, and although the brothers were more or less evenly sized, Tony seemed to come out on top enough to make the tan and brown colored boy to feel less capable than his brother. Even so, he still had fun, but he wanted to find something to master himself. It stung somewhat that his brother was better at wrestling, though, because Lorenzo considered his father to be such a formidable and undefeatable warrior. Was it possible that Lorenzo was not as much like his father as his brother, Tony? It was clear to see that Tony gravitated more toward their mother, so Lorenzo felt that he should clearly be more like his father. It was slightly disconcerting that he did not pick up on traits that he attributed to his father as easily as Tony did, but he knew that he could keep working at it.

Haven Manor provided a myriad of distractions for the pup. His huge family was always wandering in and out. And Lorenzo often followed after them, happy to be a barnacle glued to their sides. He especially loved running into his bigger cousins, who was beginning to idolize nearly as much as he idolized his father. He found that there were other things that his cousin’s possessed that he could strive to emulate, and that there was more to life than being strong and fearless. For example, he found his cousin Amata to be so smart and patient, and his Zia Savi was very kind. A member of his extended family he liked a lot was his Zio Ehno. However, he found that his uncle did not smile often. Enzo took it upon himself to change that, but it seemed that he did not know many “good” jokes. He did not doubt their quality, but he thought that he would have to do something more to get Zio Ehno to smile, maybe to even make him laugh. Enzo knew that he would have to do something extraordinary to get his attention.

That was what led him to his current plan of action. His oversized paws were digging furiously through the snow to the cold, frozen dirt below. He wrinkled his nose when he finally got there, raising his bi-colored eyes to consider the two piles of snow next to his hole. Honestly, they weren’t very tall, but in his eyes they seemed to be veritable mountains. Finally, he dug a bit into the earth, just deep enough to fit his oversized paws in up to his knees. That would be perfect! He covered his small dirt pile by shifting some snow, then the Knight boy snuck away from the hole he had dug in the front yard, just a few feet away from the front door, and hoped to see his uncle shortly.

If everything went according to plan, his Zio Ehno would exit the manor with his mind somewhere else. Then he would get his foot stuck in the hole, just long enough to distract him. And before Zio Ehno would know what hit him, Enzo would pounce and tickle him. His mother and Fia had tickled him before, surely a surprise tickle attack would incite a small or laughter from his somber uncle.
