Hear the sigh of the trees

The male moved through the snow, large paws making the work easy. Their wide size acted as snowshoes, keeping him from falling through the drifts. He could hear the sound of the sea, and he headed towards it as Anann had instructed. The young male was good at doing as he was told, and he was searching for his brother’s house in order to fulfill the task Anu had given him.

She had told him to go and take the trip to these pack lands, to see his brother and even ask to stay with him for a few days. Alder didn’t want to intrude on the Knight, he feared that he would be imposing and he dreaded having to ask to even spend the night. Let alone more then one. Alder didn’t know why Anu wished for him to do this, he didn’t know the exact reason but he felt her disappointment. He didn’t know that it was just worry and concern and fear that he would not be able to live a life without his mother.

The salt came to his nose, and he felt the snow thin. Alder looked out onto the horizon, his eyes closing slightly against the wind that blew over the ocean’s water and waves. He had yet to see the sea in such a way. The coast was different in his packs lands and Alder had only been to the cliffs at the castle. He took in the new sight, the scent of the Cours pack that mingled with the salt of the sea. The barrel chested and tall male turned, seeking out the scent of his brother. It was easy to catch, and the house was clear to blue eyes with the tendrils of smoke that came up through the sky.

Gentle paw steps walked towards it, and he gathered his memories of his brother and gathered his courage. Alder paused before he came to close, for he knew that Haven did not live alone and he didn’t wish to scare his mate if she was here alone. Alder yipped with a voice unsure, and then gave a low howl that was not too loud as to alarm those that lived near by. Then he waited, sitting with eyes on the door.

Haven's mood had been on a steep roller coaster between highs and lows for the past handful of days. He hadn't thought that anything would be able to dampen his excitement when he was about to become a father, but something he had never imagined would happen had come out of the blue and smacked him full across the face. Heath and Ruri, two of his closest friends, had packed up their little family and left the lands. It affected the Aatte male deeply and left an aching in his chest that nothing seemed to be able to alleviate. The coywolf had been his best friend for so long, nearly more of a brother. Haven had thought that would both live out the rest of their days here. They had found their partners, started families. Then it had all fallen apart. All because of some supposed news about their traitor ex-King. There were no fond feelings left in the Knight for Jacquez and this only made his anger towards the man deepen.

It was not a very nice day out, so Haven had decided to give himself and Drogon the day off from checking the borders. He had woken up in one of his melancholy moods and honestly had not felt the slightest desire to leave the house. The Knight had spent some time reading, trying to distract his mind from darker thoughts, but when that failed he had turned to his guitar. Princess was resting in their bedroom and so he only stroked the strings of the instrument softly and without much purpose making his fingers work. Jade eyes stared off into space as a kind of comforting nothingness came to fill him up. It wasn't great, but it was certainly better than the ache.

The yip was not expected, and it made the man jump, hand inadvertently slapping against the hollow wood of the stringed instrument. Eyes shocked back into focus and he looked with confusion towards the front door. What had that been? Soon a low howl rose from the same voice though and recognition came to the Aatte, but he was no less surprised. Haven rose from the couch and walked over to the door, opening it up. Sure enough, there stood his little brother. Well, little really wasn't a word to describe Alder any longer, unless used ironically. "Alder. What are you doing here?" he asked first before shaking his head to clear his scrambled thoughts. "I'm sorry, you surprised me. Please, come in." Haven opened the door wider to allow the large built male through.

If he could have he would have given his brother a notice that he was coming, for the pup-minded wolf did not know how it was to be a visitor. He had stayed in his birth lands for such a long time that he hadn't had the chance to be the stranger. It was always he that welcomed those into his home, though he had met few in his short days. But now he stood at the other side of the door, hope set deep in his eyes. A wish for welcome in his heart.

The wind swept over his shaggy coat, and Alder felt a chill that was likely in his mind more then anything. His pelt was thick, and kept the air away from his skin. But there was something about being out in the open alone that sent a shiver up his spine. There was movement in the house, keen ears taking in the faintest of things. A font paw, the fur tinged with a soot color, lifted with anxiety and he watched as the door opened and in the doorway stood his big brother.

The words he spoke were laced with surprise, and thankfully it didn't touch upon the emotion of shock or anger. Even in the dull day's light there was no missing the ink smudge across the boy's face, and his scent had to be recognizable even in the salt laced air. And with the first words spoken the Dreamer knew that his brother recognized him. The tawny male's ears fell at the next few words said, for that had never been his hope of intention. Momma said.. He began softly, the words trailing as he stood to enter the Knight's home. He corrected himself, I was hoping to visit, see how you were doing. Alder had thought about he was to day when such a question came up.

The large male walked into the house, which was warmer then he had expected. Momma told me the good news. He spoke, a smile on his face as he turned back to the male at the door.

Haven had never really thought that Alder would show up at his doorstep all by himself. Even though his little brothers were all well on their way to becoming young adults, he knew that change would not come easily or quickly to the masked boy. The tree son needed support. He could take steps forward, but really only if there was someone right behind him, backing him up as Haven had on their trip to the castle all the months ago. Even if it was a bit of a shock, it was a pleasant one. The Knight wished that he was able to see his youngest siblings more often and he had always hoped for the day that he could show off his own home to them. This unexpected visit would be the perfect opportunity for that.

As soon as the words he had spoken left his lips he cursed himself. Was that any way to treat his brother? The Knight could not let his melancholy affect him like this, not when it came to family. As Alder's ears fell back he almost winced in guilt, but thankfully the blue eyed Dreamer did not seem too terribly taken aback by the sorry initial welcome he had received. His head tilted as Alder mentioned their mother briefly before his thought seemed to peter out and he changed what his voice had to convey. A smile made its way onto the ochre hybrid's face. "You're welcome anytime. It's good to see you Alder." It was. He didn't feel as horribly alone as he had moments before.

Once the large, lupus formed male was inside, Haven closed the door to keep the chill from the house. "Please, make yourself comfortable." The Knight himself went back to plop down upon the couch as he looked his brother over. He really was huge. Whoever his father had been, he must have been quite the brute. When his "good news" was mentioned, Haven's expression and demeanor could not help but brighten. "It's hard to believe I'm going to be a dad. Feels like a dream most of the time," he confided. He had thought he might be more worried, but really that feeling had stayed to a minimum.

Alder wouldn't say much of course... he's hard to play when he's like that ><

No this had not been easy. But if his brother could have seen the look on their mother's face he would have seen that it would have been worse to stay and disappoint her once again. She had said to visit, and though it was not the same as a kick in the rump Alder understood what she meant. Perhaps it was all in his mind, perhaps he was the only one that saw his lack of progress in becoming a productive pack member and a wolf. But he thought he saw it in the matching blue orbs of his mother, and so it projected into every instruction. Leave, he had heard. Go, he had felt. So here he was, being invited into his brother's home and feeling the warmth inside of it. It was quiet inside, and Alder wondered where his mate hid. But he kept from looking around too deeply, knowing that one's home was a private thing.

The Dreamer sat by the fire, happy to no longer be walking and standing in the snow. He felt too large for the chairs that sat in the room, and felt more comfortable on the floor. The fire melted any snow that lingered on his thick pelt while eyes followed his brother to the couch.

Alder could hardly comprehend the idea of being a father. The steps to becoming one were pretty much beyond him as well. So he found it a fascinating idea, and had become excited at the idea of being an uncle to the pups that Haven and his mate Princess would bring to the world. Anu had spoken about her Knight son and the possibility for a few nieces and nephews this winter often after she had been told the news. While she spoke Alder had envisioned it, and found comfort in the idea that he might have someone to play pretend with and share his tips and other games with. He had wanted to go back to the childhood.

We're all very excited. He spoke for the rest of his family in Crimson Dreams. Alder figured that the Knight wouldn't be scared, but only because he knew that he would be. He hadn't heard of Haven ever being frightened, never heard him speak of being scared and had never seen it in his face.

Alder looked from his brother's face to the floor. The heat of the fire was beginning to be be too much for him, or it could have been the thoughts of his troubles at home that brought a flush of embarrassment to his skin.

Something seemed a little off about the masked boy. Alder was never a very talkative wolf, but his silence seemed somehow more pronounced today and his eyes spoke of something that Haven could not place. Perhaps the Knight was just projecting onto his little sibling though. Perhaps he was seeing some kind of pain and uncertainty in Alder because he was feeling it himself. So for the moment he shrugged the thought off. He didn't want to start interrogating his brother the second he stepped foot into the house. Pleasant conversation would be a much better way to start off this little reunion. He had seen Oak at the borders a few days past, but it had been a little while since he had talked with Alder. There was catching up to do.

Alder stayed on the floor, sitting by the fireplace. It seemed perfectly logical to the Cours wolf. On the few occasions that he took to his four legged form he preferred to stay on the ground. Couches and chairs were made for bodies like the one he wore, not for that of the wolf in their natural form. Not to mention his brother's size would have made trying to squeeze himself onto some of the seating rather uncomfortable. Haven didn't expect Alder to be able to wrap his head around the concept of parenthood. The Knight was over 2 years old and it was still a little hard for him to fathom. Being a big brother he understood, he had had practice. Being a father though? It was unknown territory entirely. He only hoped he didn't make any big mistakes with his kids. "You'll all have to come see them when they're born, if you can. I want you all to see them as soon as possible, and they won't be able to leave the house for some time." With the winter temperatures, the pups would need to be confined indoors longer than if it were spring or summer.

As his little brother's gaze fell to the floor, Haven picked up on that vibe that he had caught before. His head tilted to the side a little as he examined the young adult in front of him. Despite his intimidating size, everything else about Alder still spoke puppy, and it seemed obvious now that something was bothering him. "Alder, is everything okay?" He wondered if his question would be deflected and his concerns passed off as fantasy. It was easier to pretend problems weren't there than to try and talk them out. Haven knew, he had made that mistake more times than he was proud to admit.

There were many parts to the timid male, despite his transparent appearance. To some Alder seemed simple minded, since he did not always speak at length and he did not look others in the eye often. But he thought about many things, more then one most of the time. He was complex, and that was part of his inner turmoil. He could hardly control the many different things that raced through his mind. They contradicted one another, they made things complicated and larger then they deserved. Each word that was spoken to him was tucked away to be analyzed and thought about again and again, taking up valuable space in the young male's mind.

Haven's words were not excluded from that, absorbed deeply and rolled over in his mind like one might a favorable dish over the tongue. He wanted to come and visit the pups, excited at the idea of being an uncle more then he figured his brothers Oak and Cypress were. He could hardly wait, and though the idea of this change was slightly scary Alder was more excited then anything. He looked to this brother, nodding at the thought that the puppies would need to be inside until the thaw of winter into spring. Yes, they would need to be protected from the cold world. Alder felt that he could help with that, watch over them and make sure none roamed or went astray. Momma will want to come, I'll accompany her. Anu would need an escort, since the trip was long and his mother was often indoors herself on frigid sort of days.

While his gaze fell to the floor he could feel the eyes of Haven on his form. It wasn't a comfortable feeling, but Alder needed it anyways. Yearning to express his confused and unhappy feelings, needing to uncork the bottled emotions before they burst and destroyed him. The question was a great relief, and excuse to let those feelings go. Of course there was hesitation, unsure if it was okay that he felt the way he did. But then he shook his head in reply, deciding that if he could not speak to Haven about this then there was no one in the world he could talk to. Alder began with a confession Momma sent me here. She said I needed to go out on my own. He thought of Cypress, when weeks ago he had spoken so harshly towards him, but he didn't blame the smaller brother of his. He blamed himself. I can not hunt, I can't keep trespassers out, I can't do much of anything. Not there. As much as he loved his mother, his brothers, sisters and home he didn't think he could do a single thing right there. When did you decided you had to live on your own? It was so frightening to think of leaving the area, simply because his brother had said mean things. But Haven had left, thought the reasons were such a mystery, and he had become something great.

Haven had been able to see from the first time he had shared words with Alder that he was a complex boy, one that took things to heart moreso than others his age would. Words had a heavy weight with the masked wolf. While some his age wouldn't take much notice of certain things that were said, or would simply shrug them off, Alder took them in and examined them and seemed to take each one as an absolute truth that he needed to learn and know. He was incredibly intellectual, a trait that Haven possessed only in small quantities. He focused on only a few areas of knowledge, and what he knew he knew well, but there was a vast world of things he was ignorant of. Alder seemed to take in the world as a whole. The Knight thought it would be rather fascinating to find out how his little brother's mind worked.

Alder would make a wonderful uncle, Haven could tell that right now. He would know exactly how gentle to be with the puppies, and he would make sure that they stayed out of trouble and out of harm's way. He would likely be able to teach them things that he and Princess couldn't, also. As the large male spoke of accompanying their mother here to visit the pups, Haven smirked. It was a very adult thing for the boy to say, and surely no one would try to harass Anu with her mammoth son beside her. "I think that's a great idea," he said encouragingly. "I think Mati and Cambria might be here for the birth, or at least we had talked about Cambria being the healer to help with the labor. I'd love for mom to be there too, but I don't know if they can all afford to be gone at once." All three of the women were quite important to Crimson Dreams and Haven didn't want to put his former home at any disadvantage for his own person wants.

It was clear that there were things causing his younger siblings discomfort. As some moments of silence passed after he asked his question Haven wondered if Alder would come clean about his concerns or not. He did not think the boy would lie to him, but he also seemed to keep many things inside, especially if he was unsure or ashamed of them. Alder spoke though, and what he said came as a bit of a surprise to the Knight, but he kept that emotion from showing itself on his face. It didn't seem like something Anu would do, but he also knew that whatever she would have said she only would have said it in the boy's best interest. Alder listed the things he couldn't do and it was clear that he needed to find some direction for his life. Was this why their mother had sent him here?

The question should have been expected, but it took the Aatte a little off-guard. He hadn't had anyone ask him that query for some time now, though he did not need to dig for an answer. It was the thing that had driven him for most of his adult life. "Well, I was about your age, maybe a month younger. I...well, I found out some truths about the man who had sired me that scared me. I look a lot like him, and I was afraid that I might become what he had..." Even after all this time, it wasn't particularly easy to talk about. Conri Church was a ghost that would always haunt him to some degree. "I stayed in the city for about a month. I drank a lot, and I was depressed. I thought it was the best way to protect everyone from myself though. Eventually I began to snap out of it, but I knew that I couldn't go back to Crimson Dreams. If I had gone back, I would have just used everyone as a crutch. I don't think I ever would have learned to stand on my own legs."

He looked over at his brother, wondering how this was changing the way Alder viewed him. "I was lucky, and found a group of hybrids that were making their own pack. I joined them, became a Knight, and that's how Cour des Miracles was formed. There are still times that I wish I was back in Crimson Dreams, back with mom and Mati and all of you, but I know that I made the right choice. I wouldn't be who I am today if I had gone back." Hopefully he was making some sense, it was a struggle that had been so internal and personal that it was a little hard to describe.

It was hard for Alder to plan out how and when he would come to visit his nieces and nephews. He would come of course, but then the ideas that had been swarming in his head blocked out that future, and made it hard for him to visualize it happening. Why was this all so difficult? He could see himself as a strong wolf, but then when he tried to stand tall his back would not straighten. Though he had said the words Alder was not positive that he would accompany Anu to see Haven and Princess' puppies. Part of him wanted to go back to Crimson Dreams to do so and then another part felt content right where he sat.

Ears took up the words that were spoken, nodding as he gathered the information that he was unaware of. Mati and Cambi, they would be here. He was comforted in knowing that, having a deep love for his sister as well as her mate. Alder always saw kindness in both of them. Grey and black head nodded, no it was important that his mother stay then. Though she was supportive in a multitude of ways Anu would be best in the pack lands and the mated pair were most useful here when the time came. Maybe I will still come. he spoke, softly as he hoped he would still be invited even if his mother was not here. He knew that Cambria was a talented healer, and his sister was the pack's pup-nurse and so they bother were practiced in such events. The meek wolf grew slightly more confident, hoping that he too could be present and help if he happened to be needed.

Alder didn't wish to confess all these things, nor did he want to look weak in front of the Knight. But Haven was his brother before all, and the young male needed to express these feelings more then anything. Blue eyes looked to his brother, waiting and listening as he spoke of his journey out of Crimson Dreams. He had never known the things that his brother spoke of and it was heart wrenching to think that Haven had once fallen so low. But Alder did not see the folly in his past, but looked at the outcome and the great rise that he had made. So far he had come.

There were a few words that stood out in the male's mind. Sentences that stuck to his brain so quickly that he couldn't shake them even if he tried. "I would have just used everyone as a crutch. I don't think I ever would have learned to stand on my own legs." It was how he felt, leaning on his mother like he did. It wasn't right, and Alder knew it.

He was silent after Haven finished speaking, though he was not considering the things that Haven had done in the past like his brother might imagine. Alder's view of the Knight was not tarnished at the least, he had done something that the masked male was struggling with himself and he could only view him with admiration. I Alder faltered, unsure of what to say. I don't know if I could do that. he needed to, or he wouldn't learn how to stand on his own. He would fall, despite the support of the Dreaming world. He had already begun to sink.

The future was not always easy to see, even if you thought you knew what was coming. Everything could change at the drop of a pin and what you thought had been certain suddenly turned to nothing more than a dream in your head. The Knight had recently experienced that happening to him yet again. Ever since he had found out that Princess was pregnant, he had had a vision of what the future held. It involved him and Princess and their pups, and also his best friends and their two children. Then that picture had been shattered when Heath had come to him suddenly one day with the news that he and Ruri were leaving. Haven was still reeling from that shock and still trying to piece together a new view of the future. It wasn't easy, not even for him.

Alder nodded at his assumption that Anu could not be spared when both Cambria and Mati would be absent. The Aatte had expected as much, it was a generous gift for even his sister and her mate to be here and he was not a greedy man. His mother would hopefully get to see the pups soon enough after their birth, he doubted that she would be able to keep herself away he thought with an inward smile. Surely once Mati and Cambria returned home Anu would be able to make it away, if the time was right. "I'd love it if you would," he said with a smile. The more of his family that could be present for his children's birth, the more blessed the occasion would be. Besides, Haven would never bar Alder from coming if he had any desire to. Though, he did wonder if the young male knew what he was in for. Childbirth was not so pretty as the yielded result.

Haven did not view his younger brother as weak. There were not many that the Knight had met that he saw as weak, for everyone had their own strength whether or not it was apparent. Physical strength was not all there was, but strength of heart and spirit as well. He was glad that he could be there for Alder in his time of questioning and need for answers. Haven had not confided in anyone, and it had been a grave mistake of his. Of course his brother had never heard this story, it was not one that Haven wished to be shared freely. It was private, and he only shared it to those that he loved and trusted deeply. There were few even in this pack now that knew the Knight's origins and growth.

His brother was silent for some time after the story was told, and Haven gave the boy time to absorb what he had just heard. Thankfully, and with relief, he did not see any light of judgment or disappointment in the blue eyes that so much happened behind. The Knight hated letting others down, especially if the soul was someone he held so dear. It seemed sharply clear now that Alder was fighting with his own decisions, trying to decide between two paths to take, just as Haven had done so many moons before. "I didn't know if I could either." It had been a gamble, but a necessary one. "It's something you have to decide for yourself, because only you can truly know the answer." Only so much advice could be given. When it came down to it, this was something Alder had to do alone. Once the choice was made, there would be help, but he had to chose his own course.

He still could, if he wished. The thought made the male feel a bit more at ease. Alder did not know what he would do to help, but even watching the door would be a necessary task. He could keep an eye out for acquaintances that wished to pass by, or visitors that came with strange requests and did not know that there was a female in labor within the wall of his house. Alder could be a fairly decent doorman, while the others worked to give the new mother support. The boy would practice his growl for the occasion.

The warmth of the fire was now touching his skin, and he felt flushed and pressured by this newly found realization that had been slowly coming to him and now just understood. Haven's words left the choice on his shoulders, a responsibility that he hadn't felt before. It was responsibility, not just a task that was laden on him in which he did not think that he was capable of completing. This was the future for him, something that he had not thought about before. He always looked to Anu, always saw the Dreaming pack in the vision of his future. But in those pictures he didn't even see himself grown, but the other as adults and the pack as growing and moving forward. Where would he be? The question hadn't really made a difference in the past. He had always figured that he would just come along, or that where he stood was good enough. He had learned now that it wasn't, his mother knew it, and had she sent him to find this out too. The pack was his crutch. Just like Haven said.

I don't want them to be my crutch. He admitted, Anu, Mati. They had both coddled him. His mother telling him to seek Haven out was the first true push she had given him. Like a fledgling from the nest, she had demanded that he try to fly. Alder never saw a mother bird holding the wing of a nestling. And he did not ask Haven what he should do, though the urge came over him. He knew that his brother would not have the answer, nor would he give him an easy out. For the first time in his short life the large youth felt the weight of a choice, a life changing choice and knew that there was no hiding from it. There was fear, a great fear that Alder almost quaked from, but he could see that fear would only trap him.

I can't go back there. There was sadness in his voice, the lake-blue pools on his eyes were now swimming with unshed tears. He knew he couldn't though, not for good. There had to be another way, another choice then just simply returning to Crimson Dreams.

Haven had honestly been a bit shocked when he had witnessed his first childbirth only a few short months before when Ruri had had her two pups. He had not known that it was such a difficult and trying process for the mother to bring that new life into the world. Well, he had also seen his aunt's miscarriage, but he had assumed that it was only so painful because she had been attacked and everything about that situation had seemed so wrong to him. Apparently even when things were going right it was painful and there was blood involved. That was honestly the thing the Knight dreaded most, was the knowledge that Princess was going to be in pain because of what they had done. Because of him. He knew that once their babies were here all of the negative things would fade into the background, but during the labor he hoped his mate would not come to hate him. He was doing everything possible that he could for her up until that point, though.

The Aatte sat silently while his brother turned the words he had said over in his head. He could see the cogs and wheels working behind Alder's blue gaze and Haven wondered what kind of conclusion his brother would come to. It would be a lie to say that he was not surprised that his younger brother had come here this day to have this conversation with him. For how very different they were as pups, somehow it seemed as if they had come to the same turning point. The reasons behind their doubts and fears may have been different, but when it came down to it that was exactly what had brought each of them to this fork in the road. Haven had faced the same decision at that same age. It had not been something he expected to happen, but it had come to him as surely as his physical growth. What decision would Alder make? Which path would he choose? The Knight waited with baited breath to learn the answer.

His brother did not want their family and the pack to have to hold him up. This was no surprise. No soul would want to become a burden to those they cared about. What Alder would do was still a question though. The fork in the road may have been going or staying, but even once that choice was made there were many to make beyond that, countless paths that could be walked in one's life. Haven watched the young man carefully, and with interest. He wondered if he had had the same look on his face when he had been making his own choice, alone in the dark. Then the choice and admission came. Even though Haven had suspected that would be the conclusion that Alder came to, it was still a surprise to hear the words come from his timid sibling's mouth. He could hear and see the sorrow that it brought him. It was not an easy thing to say, and there was no reason that Alder should not be sad at it.

"It is okay to feel sad, and lost. I know I did. When you find your way though, you'll feel better. Stronger. More content. You'll be happier later, even if it doesn't seem like it now." It was the one, small, piece of reassurance he could offer. "I don't know what you want, but you could stay here. I have the power to accept you into Cour des Miracles. There's a spare room that Princess and I don't use, you could have it." There was no coercion to the man's voice, no attempt to push the boy in one direction or another. It was a completely innocent and sincere offer. If that was what Alder wanted then he could have it, and if not, then there were no hard feelings. It was the masked wolf's future, the choice had to be his.

thanks for waiting <3!

The young male had found most things in his life difficult. They had been things that others would likely find average, even easy and nothing to bat an eye at. Traveling outside the pack lands, venturing to places he had yet to explore with another, going off on his own for a few hours. They were all very scary for the masked boy. Alder saw them as a mountain to climb. But this was certainly the tallest of mountains he had ever faced. It was setting a deep crack in his heart, and he felt his chest weigh heavily with this realization and decision. The moment seemed to slow, ticking by as the world's turn can to a snail's pace. But his mind was blank, no racing thoughts, no yelling conscious. His breath could be heard in his ears, his heart beating like a pounding drum in his stomach. It hurt, and he knew that the tears that he felt would soon fall to his black accented cheeks.

His brother spoke, no doubt seeing the hurt and sadness in Alder's face. They were so encouraging and filled with understanding. He felt better knowing that he had someone who felt the same as he did, someone that could relate to the feelings that were swimming within him. Haven was stronger, he was full of courage and Alder had once heard that what did not kill you made you stronger. Could he mend? Could he be strengthened by this painful decision?

Blue eyes looked up at the orange tinged male, his brother and the only one that knew how Alder really felt about his life. The offer that was given was the life raft that Alder was searching for. He could stay here. The boy knew that he would lean on the mated pair as he would his mother. They had a life all their own, and with pups on the way. Alder couldn't interfere with the new growing family. He would have to find his own way. But for the moment he could rest and not have to search for a new place to live in a world he knew nothing about.

It took him many moments until Alder nodded his head. He would need to go tell her, but for now Alder needed to rest and he needed to let his emotions settle, let the truth of this move sink in. Thank you Haven. Alder wouldn't be here long, he would move out of their home as soon as he knew where to go. The thought that he was no longer a Dreamer had not yet come to pass in his now cluttered mind, but in time it would. Alder looked up, speaking the words quickly I won't be a burden. He would make his way, pull his weight and do his best. He just had to.

Anytime Wink <3

It was surprising to see Alder, of all his siblings, come to such a life changing decision. It was not something the Knight could have foreseen, but Haven had never claimed to be an oracle. Vaguely, in the back of his mind, he wandered how this would affect their mother. He knew that his own departure had been very hard on her, likely even harder than it had been on him. At least Haven had had some kind of a purpose in mind, a goal he was driving towards, even if it was a malleable and unformed one. There had been nothing for Anu except for the fact that her son was leaving her home. Would it be just as hard on her this time? But she had sent him here, hadn't she? Haven worried for their mother, but ultimately, Alder had to do what he had to do. It had been the same story for Haven all that time ago.

Beyond whatever concerns he had when it came to Anu, he was glad that he could be here to help his little brother through this. It had been difficult for him when he had had to stumble through all of this on his own. Alder could have done that if it were necessary, but it would have been worse for the masked boy. He was already scared and upset and he needed someone, something, to be able to hold onto since he had just left behind so much. The Knight was happy that he could offer some kind of rock for the young wolf to hold onto.

Alder looked back up to him when he made the offer that he could stay here if he wished. He was fairly confident that his brother would accept, but he waited silently for the choice to be made. He could see the gratitude in those blue eyes that were so like their mother's, though, and some small pinch of relief as well. Finally a nod, and then short words of thanks. "You are welcome Alder," he said with a smile. He would need to show the boy around the pack, and should likely introduce him to the King, but that could wait. For now, Alder needed to get acclimated to all these vast changes. His world had just made a dramatic expansion. At the quick addendum, the Seneschal's smile only grew. "I know you won't, I'm not worried about that." Haven stood back up with a bit of grunt. "Would you like to see your room?" He had a feeling he might want some time to himself to process all this.

end here? Smile

The boy couldn't untangle all of the feelings that he had. But this had begun to consume him; the feeling of inadequacy. His mother had sent him here for a reason, but Alder didn't even imagine that this could have been her plan. He didn't want to have to go back and tell her this news, he was still not brave enough for that. But he needed to do this, and as he realized that this was the choice that he needed to make and that this would be the new path he would take there was a weight that was lifted off his shoulders. His mother would be proud, she always spoke of how proud she was of Haven so why wouldn't she be proud of him?

Haven accepted Alder like no one else had in his life. He took in the insecurities that Alder presented, as well as the small bit of courage that he showed in this choice. He took them and gave the boy a new hope, and a new strength. Alder would never know how to thank him. The boy smiled, slightly. Grateful that his brother was here and willing to share his home and life with Alder, he couldn't help but feel an inch of happiness among the miles of sadness.

Okay. He spoke, rising from his seat to follow the Knight to the room he would now call his own. He had never had such a space to himself, still sharing with his mother. It was a new beginning, and with tentative small paw steps the large male was moving forward.
