His lip curled instinctively at the mere thought of it, but he really didn't have many other choices. With the bitter cold biting at his fur as he glided through the snow covered landscape, he ran. The soft glow of the moon lighting his way as he effortlessly jumped over a downed tree. " You have to. . ." he whispered to himself, though his voice sounded unsure. Debating his decisions out loud had been something he'd grown accustomed to over the past year. Since his exile from his previous pack he had little friendly contact with any other intelligent beings, which caused him to converse with himself more often then he'd care to admit. All that was about to change though, or so he hoped.

Perhaps he wasn't so upset about what he was doing as why he was doing it. He was independent and a strong hunter despite what some might deem physical handicaps. The increasing disappearance of prey in his hunting ground had been driving him closer and closer to pack territories. On several occasions it had brought him well within the hunting grounds of more then one pack. These encounters usually left him with an empty belly and a scar or two, not to mention a bad reputation. He knew that he wasn't intentionally trying to intrude upon others claimed grounds, but this was about survival. " Adapt or die. . ." he snarled, his voice sounding almost bitter as his casual run began to slow into a trot. The sharp ivory fangs contrasting against the midnight black fur of his muzzle as he began to more closely inspect his surroundings.

His nose lifted to the wind as he let the frigid air fill his nostrils. He could smell them now. He had caught wind of this pack several days ago almost by accident, but it didn't matter. He knew he couldn't survive at this rate without help, and honestly he did miss the company. He just needed a fresh start, but his stubborn pride made him dislike the idea of depending on others. The single golden orb that was his right eye swept cautiously across the snow covered clearing that was laid out before him. " As good a spot as any. . " he thought to himself as he neared the center of the field, and stopped. He had strategically placed himself upwind of what he thought was the majority of the packs territory. Any patrolling sentry would detect him pretty easily, though of course a simple howl would make contact easier. He wasn't interested in potentially alerting an entire pack of unknown wolves to his presence as he sat on the borders of their own territory.

No, he had learned in the past that this was a potentially fatal situation. Being slightly hungry and a little weak wasn't about to make him misjudge the situation. He took a seat on his hind legs, tucking his tail underneath him. Making sure to cover the "X" shaped marking on the tail well. Even though he highly doubted this pack understood the meaning behind the mark, he wasn't about to take any chances. Finally taking a deep breath, he settled into his spot on top of the snow. The field providing a dual purpose, allowing him to be vulnerable and non threatening but at the same time letting him know what was coming from a long ways off. . .

Welcome to Souls Smile

There was so much upon the silver male’s mind that he didn’t really mind doing border checks. It was a chance to think things over and get his thought right in his head, and work on the bones that still hunted his closet. He was still a fighter in a way; he had his strong moral values that he felt like he needed to hold up to. The charm around his neck reminded him of what he needed to be for the pack and for even him-self. The silver stag charm was his pride and joy. The silver charm was a gift from a dear friend and it was a gift that was from the heart, and for that the silver Valley wolf felt ever so honored to have it around his neck. She thought of him, and not anyone else.

The male moved along the borders slowly trying to warm up his shoulder, as he kept his head down keeping track of where the border lines sat at and where he had and hadn’t been. His deep sapphire blue eye darted back and forth as he learned what sights he could see with his one eye that went to the borders, while the male’s ears shifted and swilled around on his head trying to learn what sounds that he could hear to go along for this total learning package. The milky sightless eye rolled around going up, and then down, and it would roll from one side to another. As Noah tried so hard to teach it to move with the one eye that did have the sight in it.
Picking up a small hint of another scent the male, the male gulped. This was his first time doing a border patrol. He could feel the butterfly flying all around in his stomach as he moved in to great this nameless and faceless scent. The sable male moved towards the scent as he grimed at the pain in his shoulder. Flicking back his missing ear, and shutting his milky eye the male knew that he was going to have to one day get over that worry as he moved to the male darken male. Nodding as he kept an emotionless face. ”Hello” Truth was he was scared and worried about messing up, he wanted to be perfect for his pack. ”Why here?” Well Noah guessed why he was there, that had to have been the stupidest question ever to ask. Oh well it was way too late to take it back now, and he got what he needed to say without being a stuttering fool.

OOC: thanks :3

He was cold, there was no denying it. How long had he been sitting in that frozen field? It had seemed like hours since he arrived at the packs borders.  His back to wind as it carried his scent into the territories laid out before him. The charcoal black paws sinking deep into the snow that was quickly rising higher and higher around his legs.  Certainly there could have been more comfortable places to try and arrange first contact, but better cold then dead he thought.

His eyes never wavered from the tree line as he searched for any signs of movement. With the cold cutting through his fur like a knife he was beginning to find it harder and harder to concentrate.  “I’ll try again a different day. . .” he thought to himself, almost ready to give up for the night before movement  in the distance caught his attention.  His eyes narrowed and his ears perked as he locked onto the approaching dark shape. Thoughts racing through his mind as the figure got closer, close enough to see clearly now. Close enough to see the pained step in this foreign wolfs stride.  An injured wolf had come to intercept him? The muscles in his body tensed up a bit at the idea, it just didn’t make sense to him. Could this injury be faked? Was it just a distraction? His mind raced with ideas as he tried to listen in on the rest of his surroundings for a potential ambush, but there was nothing else to see or hear.

“Calm down. . .” he whispered under his breath. Paranoia was his enemy more than this wolf seemed to be.  Due to his past he had some serious trust issues, there was no questioning it. Something he was going to have to work on if he were to ever become part of a pack again. Painfully aware of this fact he finally stood and shook the light coating of snow from his back. Glad to finally get the blood flowing through his appendages again. He could see now that this wolf had more serious injuries then a simple limp. The dark wolf lowered his head slightly as he listened to the questions, his eyes to the ground as the custom demanded. He did have to admit to himself that though the custom demanded you show respect to those whose territory you enter, his lowered head wasn’t just a empty gesture. This silver wolf had come to meet him while injured and from the tone of his voice, slightly nervous. That was something he could respect. . .

“My name is Kami, and I’ve come to join your pack. . .” he said confidently, raising his eyes upwards.

Ookami had been wandering around as he normally did since joining this pack. It was a cold and snowy day but he didn't seem to mind. He trotted from area to area, big paws sinking into the ground, his head held high. He let a smile play on his muzzle as he sniffed the air. He passed the barn and grinned, horses, his new found intrest. He kept going when he caught the scent of a new wolf. He turned his body towards the scent and tracked it happily. There was a dark wolf waiting at the borders with Noah. He slowed to a gentle walk, setting his face to a more serious expression and walked up beside Noah. "Hello Noah." He dipped his head at the male in a greeting and then turned to the new wolf. He was here to join. Not to long ago that had been him. Waiting eagerly to be accepted. Except, he seemed nervous in a way. His ears flickered as he stood a couple feet beside Noah, looking at the dark male. "Hello." He stood there, glancing down at the wolf who stood before him, his color contrasting greatly against his black pelt. It, in a way, reminded him of when he would stand before the Alpha of his old pack. His ears flickered back at the thought.

Test test test.

The idea of Noah Sawtooth doing borders was quite foolish really. Think about to trust that a gimp wolf that has proven they wouldn’t hurt a flea to check for new members and to check that there was a clean and clear marking that the leaders had set down for the border lines. He was supposed to make sure to great the new member or any being that he found at the borders. He would much rather report to someone that there was someone or something there and let them take care of all the taking, but the silver male knew it would not be any fun for the joiner or any more efficient to have the way the pack member would have liked to have it. So the silver pack male looked upon the joiner, Noah kept him blind eye shut as he waited for him to say something, or make a move.

The vagabond seemed on edge about something, almost to the point of panic. Well that was two of them, Noah would not admit to the same feeling, even though he was feeling that. Watching the loner dipping his head, the silver male did just what came to him naturally and returned the dip of the head back to the darkened beast. He would and could respect him for being here and not just charging into the lands and demanding a rank with in the lands. It would be a first if that did happen but still manners are and where greatly welcomed here. After all the living creatures of these lands where very passive by nature and really Noah did not see this pack ever being into wars. Well unless someone was foolish enough to attacked one of the young pups.

”Oh?” The silver male spoke as he found him-self with in thought, trying to figure out what to do was running though the male’s mind trying to figure out what Adonia had done when he wanted to join the pack. ”Your skills?” The Sawtooth heir voice came out very soft spoken, he was not in any way in a rush to call upon the leaders to accept or reject this male. ”Take time…” Noah did not feel any rush to hurry the process, after all if Valley member rushed the male he might not have the time to think and say really want he wanted to get across to him. Noah gave a small smile as he lowered his rear down sitting in the blasted cold snow.

The frigid air burning his lungs as he took a deep breath. He was feeling a little more at ease now, but not at ease enough to let his guard down completely. No, he had followed the customs and this silver furred wolf had been very brave and friendly so far. Perhaps letting his guard down just a bit wouldn't be such a bad thing. He wanted his first meeting to be smooth and he definitely did not want be viewed as aggressive. The muscles in his body noticeably relaxed as he closed his eyes and exhaled, his warm breath visible as it hit the winter air.

Slowly he opened his eyes, just in time to see a very large brown wolf quickly approaching them. Forcing himself to remain void of any reaction as the new wolf came to take a seat beside the other. " Noah", the brown wolf had said to the silver. Taking a mental note to remember the name as he bowed his head slightly to the newcomer. His eyes never leaving the unusually large wolf as he spoke. " Hello, they call me Kami." his voice was gruff and confident, void of anything but respect. Humility was not something that he was a accustomed to, but he was the guest and he would play by the rules.

"Skills?" the question caught him a bit off guard, but he returned his attention to the wolf Noah. Of course they would want to know how he could strengthen thier pack. He didn't like having to answer somebody, but he knew there was no other choice. His mind raced as he tried to think of something, anything that would be worthwhile. His skills had been honed to supporting himself and himself alone.Of course because he didn't have a pack to depend on there were certain things he may be better at then others. "Which would be useful to a pack though?" he thought to himself.

His eyes narrowed on Noah as he spoke. " I'm a tracker, a hunter, and I can hold my own in a fight.. . ." His voice trailed off slightly as he turned his eyes to the brown coated wolf, his gaze still the same " I'm be very stealthy when I need to be. . ."

Ookami listened to Noah speak. He needed to know what to do if he was ever the first to greet somebody at the borders. So far it seemed simple enough. Ask them of their purpose for being there and then if they are wanting to join.. Ask of their skills, then perhaps wait for Geneva or Jefferson to arrive. He gave a small smile at Kami when he introduced himself "Ookami." Was all he said. This wolf much reminded him of himself. Those were the skills that he had come to Phenoix Valley with. It hadn't been that long ago.. About a week, he thought of Adonia and their friendship, he smiled gently. He wondered if this wolf was in need of a companion too.

The wind blew harshly and ruffled his shiny pelt. He loved that feeling, though it gave him chills. He wanted it to be autumn once again, the most beautiful time of year when the weather is perfect. His legs were getting tired from standing up on the cold snow so he plopped down, and wrapped his tail around his body. He kept his head held high. Looking down at the black wolf, wondering what happened in his past. Everyone now adays seemed to have horrible pasts, and he wondered when someone with a good happy past would come around. He sighed, maybe there will never be one. He quieted his thoughts, waiting for Noah's reply,

Please edit your title to have "Leader Needed" please.

Noah really wasn’t as mean as what he may come off with only using just enough words to get out what he needed. Actually he really was just a big old fluffy teddy bear that just happened to have a body that been ravaged by a war of power. However if he knew that some one thought of him as scary he would go out of his way and use what power he could and would to make sure they knew that he was just not that. He wanted the pack and everything in and around it to be free of any worry of war, now and forever, that was Noah’s way and so far it seemed like it was working, he had been blessed with two really close friends.

Watching the male look between him and the brown male from the lands named Ookami, Noah gave a dip of his silver maw to the brown male as he looked back over to the joiner, and Noah was ready for whatever that was thrown at him. With a twist of his ear when the male at the border started to list his skill. Noah personally didn’t care whether or not he had skill, he just wanted to see how he reacted to someone of a higher rank being somewhat demanding of him. Passing that test, Noah didn’t see a reason to have him standing here any longer. It was cold and Noah hated being out in the cold weather. With a nod he smiled with a small wag of his tail.Great!” He tried to hide his enticement that he had with in his body.

Looking over the to pack brethren Noah was pleased with what he saw and what he had heard, Noah was sure that the two would agree that he would just fine with in the pack.”Uno..Un..Unoff..Unofficially Welcome.” He was sure that the leader would have his head for saying that, but he knew that had the final say of whether or not they got into the pack. Lifting his head up as he howled for a leader, either or would do. Noah had been lucky enough to meet both of them and found them both as different as night and day, but they both had the pack’s best in mind.

" Unofficially?" he thought as he listened to Noah's welcome. The soft hue of of pinks and orange began the seep into the night sky as the three stood in that empty field. The morning bringing the realization of just how long he had actually been sitting there waiting. While the two wolves had been his first contact with this pack, he could only hope that the future would be as promising. Though from Noah's comment he could gather that neither of these two were the pack alphas, but he wasn't concerned to much. This was probably just the beginning of his potential acceptance into the pack, but he couldn't help but have high hopes. The meeting with these two may have been short, but it was refreshing and helped to ease his mind that perhaps he might be able to make this work.

Watching closely as Noah raised his muzzle to the quickly vanishing night sky. Once again he took his spot in the snow, his hind quarters buried slightly beneath the ice which made him shiver ever so slightly. Acceptance into the pack or not, he would be glad when he would be able to leave this field. Making sure to tuck his tail underneath him as discretely and carefully as he could. The expression on his face still stone cold and unwavering as the golden orb of his eye slowly moved back and forth between his two greeters. He was fairly certain that Noah's howl was calling to some other members of the pack, but of course he couldn't be sure. For the time being he would just have to sit and wait, but in the mean time he might as well get as much information as he could.

" What is he doing? " he asked of Ookami, perhaps a little more harsh sounding then he had intended. With the dying sound of the howl bringing the soft silence of nature back around them.

Ookami gently glanced up at the sky, admiring the streaks of color. He nodded at Noah's welcome, then had to hold back a chuckle at his harsh, confused words. "He is calling for the Alpha or Alphess to hopefully accept you into this pack." He wiggled in the snow, going deeper into the snow to keep warm. Waiting for Geneva or Jefferson. He hadn't had a very formal meeting with Jefferson yet so he hoped he was the one who came to greet them. He felt the rays of the sun shining on his coat. He was warmed nearly instantly and he let a sigh of contentment exscape his lips.

He perked his ears up as a cold wind hit his face quickly. It stole his breath and carried it far away in its current. He watched it fly away as he breathed in a breath. He shuffled his paws, warming up his legs and then shook his coat free of the snow that had fallen on it. He looked around and sniffed the air, searching for Geneva or Jefferson.

And so he came upon them, by request, quicker than Geneva may have possibly due only to convenient proximity. Jefferson was not what one defined as "prompt," or at least not in matters he did not see as important, but when he was called, the cyclops dropped all else and attended to matters of varying importance. Even the most desolate of howls in the air could have hinted at an entirely insignificant issue, while the most dull of calls could have hinted at subtle emergency. The scarred man preferred not to take the risk.

Was it because he cared so much for those beneath him? Perhaps. He just wouldn't admit it aloud.

He drew in close three-legged, limping as always, gaining ground on them at a slowed pace due to the lack of a functioning fourth leg. Single green eye fell upon Noah, whom he recognized, and then on two other two, both of whom he did not. Geneva had mentioned something about accepting a male at the borders not long ago, and one of them reeked of Valley despite the lack of familiarity; Jefferson grumpily assumed it was he she had spoke of. For the sake of assuring his leadership to both strangers, of course, his first words were made of a response much different than the norm of "You called?" or "What do you want?". "Hello," he muttered, a snideness in his tone as always, his scars glancing between them all at once. "I am Jefferson, the leader here. Why was I called?"

SSWM:489.

Closing his black lips as he brought his head back down Noah gave a warm smile to the pack member and a hopeful future member. The silver male looked between the brown male and the dark male. He felt good about this, the more that he stood there talking to the vagabond the more Noah was warming up to having him in the pack lands, he seemed rather good with taking the basic command of an order from someone that appeared to be a higher rank then him, even if it wasn’t by much if any. That alone had granted him big brownie points with Noah Sawtooth. Then he didn’t even give even a slight bit of issues with some one that stuttered and some one that didn’t have a normal walk, or even a normal look to them. What respect he had earned within the Sawtooth male’s eye.

With a Nod he agreed with what the brown pack mate had told the rouge, he was right he was calling for one of the leaders. He had meet Jefferson here in the pack lands and not on the borders lines and it had caught the poor Adonia heat. He still did not wish to cause her an issue, but it had seemed that he had done just that by standing there. The male watched Ookami, with a smile he shook his head with a chuckle, he was a very cleaver wolf, and not something Noah would have thought to do. Should have with how much he hated snow, but that idea he would have to give to Ookami! Noah saw down wrapping his tail around his body as he waiting wondering who was going to show up.

Jefferson’s scent came to Noah he gulped, he was still working on figuring him out and the male still scared him a small bit, okay that was a lie he was still very much scared of him, not because of his scars and not because of his limp. No it was how he just didn’t seem to mind what he said as long as the pack was safe and whoever he was talking to understood what he was saying. Even if it was only the truth and the truth is what scared Noah more than anything. Standing up the male wanted to be ready to move out of the Patriarch’s way once he came. Seeing the gimp the silver brute moved to allow him a full path to the borders taking a step back letting Jefferson have the main light. ”He’s joining…” He lowered his head as he looked side to side, maybe he should have tried to say more but he didn’t want to be that stupid stuttering soul in front of the leader once again. ”Or trying…” He gulped looking to the two other males, it was out of Noah’s paws now it was all onto Kami and maybe Ookami.

His hopes were dashed almost instantly as Jefferson introduced himself. The tone of this alphas voice was like a claw to the face, but he quickly caught himself. It took every ounce of will power he had to not react in a way that would cause things to take a negative turn. No, he knew a simple twitch of his lip , or wrong flick of the tail could be disastrous to any chances he had at joining a pack. So he would have to keep his unwavering expression despite the emotional tug of war that was being waged inside his head. Kami knew his past experience with an alpha was just another obstacle, something else he would have to overcome if he were to survive in a pack. Thought the realization of this didn't ease his mind any as he once again dipped his head to the scarred wolf, his eyes lingering only slightly before dropping to the ground once again.

" As Noah said, I'm here looking to join your pack." he said bluntly, making sure to keep any emotion from his speech. While he may have been looking at Jefferson's paws, his mind was sizing up the leader of this pack. Two of the first members he had met seemed to be injured fairly severely which was a causing him a bit of concern. What could they be doing that would lead to those kinds of injuries? Kami was not afraid of a fight by any means, but it made him wonder what kind of leader Jefferson actually was. The marking on Kami's tail almost seeming to burn as the memory of his exile came to the front of his mind. Going against the will of an alpha had consequences, regardless of the reasons behind it. A lesson he had learned all to well once before, but he did not regret it.

With the initial knee jerk reaction to Jefferson's words quickly fading from his mind Kami couldn't help but notice Noah and Ookamis reactions. They seemed to certainly respect Jefferson, and in a way that wasn't earned through fear or brutality. He was sure there was more to this Alpha then the gruff exterior he could see and hear, but only time would tell. Respect was not the same as obedience, and one did not always guarantee the other. . .

Ookami had been looking around, when the cold wind blew once again. With the wind however he picked up a new scent. Jefferson. He guessed it. The alpha came walking up towards them and he dipped his head in respect, before moving over so he had Kami in full site. He stole a glance at Jefferson. He admired and respected this wolf so much. It seemed he had gone through so much but he still stood tall and proud and didn't let the past show on his face. He was surprised the way Kami spoke to him. He sounded so... not nervous, he definatley was when Geneva came along. He watched Kami and waited for Jefferson's reply.

He snuggled farther into the snow. He was slowly getting warmer and he smiled in anticipation. Kami seemed to thrive under pressure and would probably do well in the meeting with the alpha. Ookami hoped this wolf would be accepted because he seemed like a kind wolf that Ookami could get along with. He waited patently.

All three reacted to his presence uniquely; as always, Noah cowered and backed off, persistently fearful as if the leader would launch at his throat as Jefferson may have done the boy's father. However, the stigma Noah's parents had in the Patriarch's single green eye were not fully transferred to their offspring—Jefferson would have recognized any tendencies possibly taken from the boy's parents, but thus far Noah had shown not one. The cyclops had no complaints, and nodded patiently at the silver boy.

Another subtle nod was sent to Ookami, though they had not fully met, before the leader finally addressed the stranger on his borders. The brute caught a glimpse of the stranger's tail, marked painfully with some sort of scar, before green eye slid back to his face. "Not much of a talker, I see," he snorted, raising his brows in quiet amusement. "Looks like you already have the prerequisite, too. Fair enough." His eye glanced at Kami's tail once more, then sat himself down nonchalantly. He'd made that up entirely on the spot, of course, out of his blunt and rather terrible sense of humor, and would have been surprised if they didn't pick up on it.

With the brutally scarred leg still lifted somewhat in the air, he continued. "Well, we don't let just anyone in. What can you offer us in exchange for membership, hmm?"

Noah feared Jefferson for reason that he still wasn’t able to say why, maybe it was the treat that if he acted one bit like his mother or father he would find him-self out of the pack on his own faster than a blink of an eye. Deuce had traits that Noah wished that he could find with him-self but he was still working on his own being, he was still trying to figure out who he was and what he was wanting out of life, and so far everything that had happened with in the Valley was what he was wanting out of life. A nice place to sleep at night, some good food for his stomach, and a friend or two. What more could any other being want out of life?

Everything now was out of Noah’s hands, paws whatever. This was all Kami, Noah knew that feelings that for once you needed to stand up on your own with no one there for you to fall back upon when and if you made a mistake. The silver male watched the seen fall out between the two males, he was sure that Kami skills would be an equal trade off for a place to live, but again he wasn’t Jefferson, wanted to be in a way but he wasn’t.

He had payed the due respect to the leader of a pack, but he would not grovel like some scared puppy. " I only speak when there is something to say." he said without sarcasm or hostility. The lack of company had left Kami with little social skills, unless he was talking to himself of course. Perhaps if he were exposed to more frequent conversations things would change, but that wasn't important now. Slowly Kami raised his head back up until he was once again level with the Alpha. His eyes carefully examining the scarred wolf as he sat so seemingly unconcerned in the snow before him.

The quick glance from that single green eye to the marking on Kami's tail did not go unnoticed. Obviously Jefferson had taken note of the scar, something that Kami had been trying to avoid since his first meeting with Noah at these borders. It was something he could not hide forever though, and the alphas casual comment seemed to imply that he was unaware or even unconcerned by the meaning behind it. Either way it didn't matter much at this point, he was facing what he thought to be his final test and once again was asked to list off his strengths. Of course he didn't think that Jefferson would be as easily impressed as Noah and Ookami, but that didn't mean he was going to build himself up to be something he was not.

" I've been on my own a long time. " Kamis voice was low, deep, and completely serious as he spoke. The past year since his exile had stripped away most of the fun loving side he once had. Spending everyday with nothing to focus on but surviving to the next would do the same to any wolf; or at least he liked to think that. " I can hunt, track, and move quickly unnoticed over long distances." he said matter of factely. These skills were something almost any wolf was capable of, but Kami was confident that he could do all these things as well if not better then most. The yellow eyes practically glowing in the morning light as he slowly shifted his gaze from Jeffersons injuries over to the gimped leg he had seen Noah walking on earlier. " And I've only ever lost one fight." his gaze turned back to Jefferson as his voice trailed off. Only someone who looked very closely in the still dim light of morning would notice the slight look of amusement on Kamis face. the first real sign of any expression he had given since he had arrived here.

Of course he had picked up a few tricks in his travels, but Kami wasn't foolish enough to put all of his secrets out in the open right away. He was confident in the abilities he had spoken of, and was actually looking forward to the opportunity of proving himself. Well, maybe it was more the chance to compare himself to the members of this pack. Perhaps he would find out he wasn't as gifted as he thought. " You seem to have a strong pack here." he said, nodding his head towards Ookami and Noah. " Brave too. Noah may not have survived our meeting if I had been hostile. Ookami wasn't far behind, but I was surprised to see someone with a injury patrolling your borders. . ." Kami once again spoke bluntly. He meant the comment to be as much a compliment as a test to try and judge the reaction of this Alpha. He knew it could be a dangerous statement, but he got a feeling that Jefferson was perhaps not as strict as the last alpha Kami had encountered.

He had lost only one fight? Such words meant nothing to a beast like Jefferson, whose body marked a thousand defeats and victories alike, yet each scar was no different from the last. He knew nothing of victory in combat; there was never a winner when a clash of demeanor began; Kami presented himself as something seasoned, which ultimately would be useful for a pack full of pacifistic dreamers, but such skills held no greater worth than scouting or fishing or basketweaving in the cyclops' single eye. No emotion stirred within the green, his scars stiff and unmoving, as Kami spoke on and on and Jefferson simply listened.

Kami's last words Jefferson knew to be provocative, and even so the Patriarch's stare held on emotionlessly, grimly, stony. Without even the slightest shift in stance or gaze, Jefferson pointed his glowing green eye into the depths of Kami's and spoke, his tone perhaps more authoritative in nature than was the norm. "Fortunately for you, you have no business with which of my members watch these borderlines. They work independently; I have not demanded either of these two to waste their time babysitting."

He tipped his nose, gaze now looking down on the stranger. "You'll leave matters of authority to authority figures," he said, a sharpness still in his tone, though nothing close to a scolding. "You do not impress me. However, I see no reason to turn you away."

A moment of consideration, matched with the thinning of his dark eyes. "You'll start as a Loas. Work your way as something trustworthy, and then we'll see about moving up." He turned, nodding both to Ookami and Noah. "Thank you both for attending so quickly. Keep an eye on him."

And with that, the cyclops limped away, regretless.
