OOC: Big Grin 428

It had been a while since Revan had been accepted into the pack he had come to know as Inferni, but the only members of the pack he had come to know where Sepirah, and even then only as much as she had allowed him to know. After she had left him alone that day he had arrived at the borders, he had never really gotten an actual official introduction to the pack and he was too shy to approach any of the members that he did see. He had managed to stay out of everyone's way however, hunting only when he was sure no one would spot him. He wasn't entirely sure why he was so shy, but it might have been because he didn't really feel welcome here.

Sepirah had merely cast him off as if he was the remains of a completely picked clean carcass and he hadn't seen her at all in his mini journeys around Inferni's borders. Everyone else seemed to act as if he wasn't there and he felt as if he was forced to ask himself the same question over and over. "Do I belong here?" He had found a den in the form of an abandoned car on one of the human roads that ran through the area. It was drafty and not very comfortable, but it was his safe haven for the moment, far away from the main points of Inferni, just nice enough for him to carve out a comfortable niche for himself, at least until he got comfortable enough for him to try and get noticed among the pack members.

To be honest, he wasn't really sure if it was the right choice to join this pack or not. He had wanted to be a part of something bigger than himself, to have a family much larger than his own, to find a mate and have a mess of pups, and to be happy amongst his packmates. Sadly, from the day he joined he had been more alone than when he had been with his family. He missed them, terribly, but he couldn't go back and show his face to them again, letting them know he had failed at his self appointed task. He got up and left the car, heading out for a walk along the highway. His morning hunt was finished and he didn't really have anything else to do, so he decided he would find some little items he could use as gifts for anybody he did manage to come across in the future.

Alyssum grumbled crossly as she trotted down the slightly warmed highway. She had not been down Devil's Demise much, and she had heard there were emptied gas stations around Route 32; though she had liked the caves, she felt she needed somewhere secluded for what she called "mental training". She just mainly did not want anyone near her at the moment. She had gotten into a scrap at the borders with a loner named Toklo. Even though she managed to chase him off, she did not get off lightly. She had to stay in Lupus form to prevent any wounds from getting worse, and so far her shoulder was bandaged with cleaned clothe, and scratches and bite marks were already scabbing, though her rick brown fur covered them nicely. She was mainly pissed because under the bandage on her shoulder, was a bold claw mark that scabbed over slower that the others, and it seemed it was there to stay.

She was not concerned of her looks most of the time, but it did bother her. At least she had her first battle and won it, somewhat. She also felt like she lost so much in that first battle, like her dreams that used to follow her naive brain when she was first made a Hastati. Thoughts of epic battles that she was so skilled in haunted her sleep, but she was now woken up to reality; though she had chased away the wolf, she was hurt, unlike in her dreams where she was invincible. She also seemed less happy and more annoyed these days because of the battle, as if she saw what her path she was dead set on was really about. But, she didn't waver from the dark road of warring and battles, since it seemed that was the only way she was useful to Inferni. The coyote definitely did not want to back down from the Hastati rank either; though the game had change, she was going to stay with it and adapt to it.

She squinted her eyes against the sun that was shining weakly from the sky, thinking she was seeing a figure in the distance. The sun was making the blacktop blurry from afar, but something was walking the opposite direction she was in, and if it stayed on that course, it would not be long until they passed by each other. Curiosity prickling at her mind, she quicken her limp, keeping her weight off of her injured shoulder. As she saw the silhouette closer, it was a canine, whom seemed coyote and something else that seemed familiar. It was jackal; she remembered meeting Sepirah, for she was part coyote and jackal herself. She felt comforted already. Since her confrontation with Toklo, she now had a little distrust with wolves. "Hey!"she called to the canine, her bark echoing into the empty air to Revan.

OOC:

The day was young and Revan hadn't been walking far, but his mind was a long ways away from here, off in space as his father used to say. As he walked along the road, looking back to see his paw prints, he couldn't help but feeling a deep sadness as he remembered that day he had seen his lone footprints in the snow. Those lone paw prints, etched in the snow until another blanket would be laid down, forever erasing any evidence that he was here away to prevent anyone noticing. That's what he felt like in this pack. He was those paw prints, but the blankets of snow were constantly erasing his presence here, making him feel alone and unwelcome in this land of coyotes and jackals.

The cold was a perfect metaphor as well, the same feeling taking place within his heart and chest. He even shivered from the intensity of it. Even when he was curled into a ball in the car and very warm, the cold still radiated through him, leaving him feeling as empty inside as the car he had come to call his home. Unlike the car however, he was able to leave the place where he was basically forced to stay by his own will, able to change the way he felt and escape the cold that seemed to take over his life. All he needed to do was find a way.

His thoughts were interrupted suddenly as he heard a slightly far off "hey!", his head snapped to face forward. It wasn't hard to see the figure in the distance against the long road stretching to beyond the horizon, but he just couldn't believe that it wasn't just a figment of his imagination, brought on by his terrible loneliness. Just in case it wasn't however, he howled back, sitting down on the cold road and waiting for the figure to catch up to him and disappear in a puff of smoke or something like that. "Hello to you!" He called to the coyote that was supposedly only in his mind.
