Lovely, dark and deep

Hello (: WC- 438

Through the snowy white cover of a few pine trees the young woman shifted; it was around mid-day and she was feeling hungry. Of course, Bindu was always hungry nowadays, her thin frame spelling that out very clearly. Food was difficult to come by in the winter, especially for a clumsy girl who would much rather just sit and keep warm than harass the quiet forest for a meal.

The shift was necessary, so she told herself apprehensively, as fingers appeared out of her paws like the branches of a tree springing from their trunk. The teen almost always hunted in her lupus form, occasionally secui, but never had she dared to hunt as a two-leg. Consequently, she almost always fell asleep to nagging pangs of hunger; as much as she hated optime form, Bindu desperately needed nourishment and would push through her discomfort to satisfy her body.

When she was done, she stood and looked out at the white forest, the pine trees rising from the ground in straight, dark lines. Her little heart warmed at the sight of it. Winter was a cruel master, but its beauty went unchallenged, especially in such a lovely wood. After a moment of shining eyes, she slipped into the silent forest. Her feet were cushioned by the blanket of snow, creating no noise and doing no damage. She was invisible, a little golden bird that could fly away at the faintest scent of danger if only its wings weren't broken.

Her feet finally led her to a frozen stream, forgetting the path of the huntress after a few hours of searching for prey. By now every part of her was numb with cold, and from time to time her fingers came up to brush away a tear shed by freezing dark eyes. She stared at the stream hesitantly. Even if she tried, she would never be able to break it open to catch fish, if the fish were still alive; so why was she still here, standing motionless at its bank? Bindu sighed, her mouth parting to let out a cloud of vapor. With a heavy heart and an empty stomach, she sat at the stream's edge and hugged her knees to her flat chest for warmth.

It was easy to think about nothing. All that the young woman had to do was stare at a rock or a crevice in the ice and let go of her thoughts. The guilt, the sorrow, loneliness, frustration- and the happiness, thrill, freedom as well; all gone, lost in a sea of stone and ice. The teen sat there for a long time.
