Dark Days

i thought the name was appropriate ^^ libri and fy! and bobbi if she wants! sorry for the delay..and foredated to a few days after element's leg, which means it is february 15th; i realized that this was a week or so after the storm, as well, so i roleplayed it that way. tell me if this is too far or soon! ^^ wc: 617

Dark days, indeed.

The sky was looking dark ever since the storm had ravaged the area. Element had healed before that, thank goodness, and had hidden in his library home until the storm blew over. He wanted to see how Conor was doing - he was afraid for his friend's pack. The snowstorm had been extremely harsh, even breaking a few windows in the library and possibly causing more damage that Element hadn't noticed. He had been hiding under desks and safe chairs, hoping that the storm wouldn't ruin any of the books in the higher levels.

He had also carefully dragged away books that were left lying around by Luperci, dragging as many books as he could to the center of the library as to escape damage from broken windows. He couldn't save them all, however, and a lot of them had gotten soaked. He had found a nook that was quite safe for him to hide underneath a wall and between several tables that were attached to the floor, along with a sort of shelf that made a 'roof' overhead. There he had hidden, and had dragged a few of his most precious books - the Lord of the Rings trilogy among them - with him in the dark but safe hole, slowly going a bit hungry as he watched the world rage around him.

After the storm, Element had tried to dry out the books by taking ones that had been made soggy by the storm and dragging them out to the window, which had shone almost mirthful sunlight after the hell it had wrought the area of Souls. He had to carry them gently in his mouth, using his paws occasionally, and it was hard work - more than one book had fallen apart in his gentle but firm grip. When he did manage to put them out on the window shelf, however, the pages did dry - if slowly. A lot of the words were now unrecognizable, and Element was saddened by this - but some of the books, a precious few, dried out alright and the words were still legible. Those were the ones with thick covers to protect them.

The books that Element had hidden away with them were safe and dry as he had been, and had not sustained damage. Element had kept them in the nook, however, for the floors were soaked with wetness that had broken through the damaged windows.

The books that were in the inner shelves were drier than any others, and some had not sustained any damage at all. He was afraid to look at the top floors, however - he did not want to see what had happened to those books, those books which pages were undoubtedly strewn across the floor in a maddened frenzy like someone had gotten sick of them and destroyed every last one.

Preoccupied with his books as he was, Element was still a living creature, and so needed food and water. He had ventured outside a day or two after the storm to catch up on well-needed nourishment, then had returned to fixing his library. That was what he did day and night - fixed the books, dried them out, putting aside the ones that were destroyed in a pile in case any words were still legible. If they were, Element would ask someone - anyone - to write them down on new papers and perhaps rewrite the books.

Now, however, he had managed to tear himself away from his home and went to visit his friends in Dahlia de Mai. He hoped they were doing well - the storm had been fierce, and he dreaded what it may have done to their home.

Sepirah was still being her usual self, hanging around outside of Inferni when she really should have been scouting along the borders. There was not much she could do right now seeing as there were not many new joiners for her to talk to and the other scouts were no where to be seen. She knew she was slacking off on her duties and that she needed to come back to her senses or she was going to fall back in the ranks. The dark princess trotted along as she hopped over the border of skulls. Speaking of that line, she wondered when she would be able to place her first skull along the borders. There was no fighting going on so it didn’t look like she was going to be able to place the skull of an enemy there for quite a while, though she knew there were tensions between her and some of the other members in the pack. The jackal emitted a soft sigh before she turned her gaze back towards the neutral lands and began on her way. She figured she could be out and back real quick so she could return to her duties.

Sepirah looked to the sky as she saw the darker clouds looming over her head. She wondered if there was a storm on its way. Perhaps she should go back and speak to Kaena or her uncle about the possibility before they began to make assumtions. The dark princess walked along as she stuck her nose in the air. She thought she smelled something and crouched down as she searched. The dark princess followed the scent trail until she caught the black feline in her sights. She stopped and raised her posture from what it once was. There was no way she could hunt a cat for her pack. She watched the feline for a while before stepping out of hiding and padding over towards him. She smiled as she made her way to his side, looking down to him curiously.

Halo was not being her usual self. Today, her feet had brought her past the borders of the clan lands and beyond. Though, as usual, her mood was not as bright as it could have been. She was still in shock after what had happened to Kaena. To think that she was the one that had given birth to such a monster was agonizing. Always, always did something terrible happen to maim her. Again and again.

It was probably a mere coincidence that the woman had taken a similar path as her darker half-sibling. Bad luck was a despised companion in her life, and today it struck again, allowing her to watch the two other creatures from a greater distance. Her sister and a feline. The corner of the lovely woman’s lips drew down; creating a sour grimace to both the creature she suddenly was faced with. Cats had always been a thorn in her side, for they seemed unable to leave her rodent darlings alone. The weight of the remaining twin sword pushed against her slender back, already greedy for flesh.

Was it Sepirah’s pet? The possibility made her no less willing to decapitate the cat. It took only a moment longer to decide to approach the two. ”Is that thing yours?” she shouted, pointing a clawed finger at the black creature.

In his hunt for prey, he did not notice the sounds of pawsteps right away; however, he stood stock still as he did hear the steady crunch of paws on snow. Cats had incredible hearing, and Element was no different - his ears could pick up the steps of a mouse. But this was no mouse, and that fact was revealed not a moment later as a dark woman emerged from the trees and smiled at him benevolently.

It was a coyote, Element could tell. Her ears were large and her snout was long; despite the large, hulking size of many wolves he'd met, she was smaller and more slender than her canine cousins. Her entire coat was black, and her eyes were a bright, inquisitive yellow. She looked at him with a mixture of curiousity and interest, and Element looked back up with emerald hues. He was about to utter a greeting - this canine didn't seem malevolent in any way, and she seemed quite nice. In any case, she was the same dark sable shade that Element was, and she did, in her own way, look like a cat.

Before the ebony feline could say a word, however, a new coyote emerged. This one was much lighter in color; her fur had a tawny tint that was accented by red eyes and dark hair. The bridge of her nose matched the other coyote's in color, but this canine didn't seem as happy to see him or what smelled like her kin; a scowl adorned her face as she neared the cat and the coyote. She shouted something - is that thing yours? - and Element flattened one ear momentarily.

"There is no need to yell," he said. "Nor point. And no, I am not anyone's - I am my own creature." Element wondered what made this woman so angry - and why on Earth she would call him a 'thing'! The cat had seen canines that had treated him with endearing words before until they'd known he could speak to them, but he'd never had someone insult his intelligence deliberately. He wondered what this coyote's problem was with cats.

Sepirah could to help but admire the cat sitting next to her. It had an ebony coat like herself, except for her muzzle which was still red orange. Plus this feline had green eyes instead of yellow, but she considered to be a closer match to him and liked that. She wondered what she could even say to him. She did want to know what his name was. The dark princess lowered her head so that she was at his level and smiled. ”Hello there. May I ask what your name is?” She wondered if the feline was more of the silent type and didn’t like to talk. Boy would she be proven wrong.

Sepirah paused as she caught the scent of someone coming. She looked behind her at the corner of her eye and saw the dark brown and tan coyote behind. She knew this one quite well. It was Halo and boy did she hate her. She let out a low growl to her half sister as she approached. She looked down to the feline as he said there was no reason to yell. He sure was right. There really was no reason for her to be doing this. ”No this feline is not mine. I don’t have the space in my home to have a pet. Now why don’t you leave before you create a scene? No need to have you ruin a perfect day.” The jackal then yawned before stretching out her limbs. She really was hoping that this was going to be a good day, but it looks like it was just ruined by her half sister. The dark princess kept her golden gaze on her until she decided it was a good time to leave. No reason to make their relationship worse.

Would just like to add that the reason Halo shouted was because she was too far away to use a normal voice level ^^;

The feline was completely ignored, for it was a mere critter. If anything, she could agree that it owned a pitch black coat with a silky shine to it. What a wonderful skin it would have made. Her focus drew to the brat beside it; the girl that with her words revealed that she had not grown during her stay here. Now, as the warrior had approached them further, she could hear the growl that had been emitted and now as she watched the black bitch yawn, she decided that there was only so much disrespect she would take from one with lower status.

Fingers already itched for the twin sword’s handle, though it seemed they always did regardless the situation. ”I see you still haven’t learned your place, pawn,” she commented drily; eyeing the darker woman with an expression that matched her feelings for the insolent girl. She knew well the directions her mind suggested this to go. The clan was precious to her, but it was built up by a hierarchy certain members would be wise to acknowledge. Her focus parted and turned to the cat again. Its coloration was not similar to the one that had died to her sword.

Her pretty nose wrinkled slightly with the dislike she saw no reason to hide from her face. What was it the thing had said? Something about own being? Wild cats without owners were no doubt worse, though Eris' ocelot had been quite bad.

thanks, fy! ^^ and okay! element just has sensitive kitty witty ears xD

Element said nothing as the coyote women traded insults at each other, and the red one called the other a pawn. He had no place in canine politics, and didn't seek to get involved; but then, a certain look came on the face of the woman that had insulted both of them. A peculiar expression; Element hadn't seen someone look like that before, not really. He stared back at the woman and cocked his head slightly, about to speak, when he sighted the double swords the woman had hanging on her waist. He had seen weapons like that before, and he didn't fancy crossing them. Still, he felt no harm in voicing his opinion - he was likely faster than the coyote, at any rate.

"You do not like felines?" he asked delicately. "May I ask why not?" He wasn't seeking to provoke the canine into harming him or getting more angry than she already was, but he didn't like the looks she gave him; as if he were not a creature of his own, and was ridiculous for simply being a feline. He then remembered how he felt about canines not too long ago; he had thought they were all vicious, all horrid and perfectly vile. But he had learned - not all canines were like the one that had undoubtedly harmed Flower, and he was sure that this one was not of that type.

Again, the smaller feline spoke to her. Ruby eyes shifted; peered down at the disgusting little creature. Halo adored visual beauty whenever she could find it and did not deny the felines striking features. It would make a beautiful pelt, and if dead eyeballs did not shrivel up and go bad she could just as well have taken them too, if only to own that beautifully vibrant colour of jade. But they were nasty things snatching up the rodents she spent so much time training up to be useful. The pretty Lykoi did not respond well when her small pets were being threatened, and smaller predators like this cat here had often snatched some of her precious rats. No, she did not like it.

May it ask why? Well, she supposed it couldn’t harm to grant the pretty feline some attention. Perhaps it wasn’t much worth talking to it, but it probably was better than to have to deal with the pathetic half-sibling that had no clue about the clan’s hierarchy and how she was supposed to respect those high above her in rank. ”Well,” she purred, adding a treacherous sweetness to her voice as she took a step closer. Her stance was not threatening, but whenever she felt like it, the sword could suddenly appear in her hand. ”You lot just keep preying on my pets, and I don’t like it.” Perhaps this little kitty here was innocent in crimes against her rats, but she was convinced that if the opportunity rose when it could snatch a quick little meal with a furless tail, it would take it.

The larger canine looked down at Element in such disdain that he had to force his fur to lie flat under the scrutinizing gaze of the younger, yet larger and more powerful female. She seemed to be judging him, looking him up and down, and he did not like the predatory look in her ruby gaze one bit - it was almost as if she were thinking of the ways she could destroy him. He tried to shake off this feeling; the cat could easily outrun the canine, especially due to his sleek figure and her own two-legged form, but he didn't want to take any chances, especially now that she neared him so.

Still, he tried to be courageous as he looked up at the canine as she said that animals like him liked to snack on rats. So this coyote kept rats - he had known those that had kept pets before. He had seen birds with Niro, horses with Alder and even cats such as himself with Daisuke and other canines, but he had never heard of rats being kept as pets by a canine before. Ah, well, he learned something new every day; but being a feline that preferred to stay away from the dangerous borders of Inferni, he could attest that he had never snacked on a rat of this female before.

"What feline would do that, unless they did not know the dangers?" he said, half to himself and half to the similarly sable-shaded female in front of him.

Halo was terrible to prematurely judge others, and she looked at this visually beautiful creature with genuine disapproval. This cat was one of many, and it did not occur to her to investigate the depths of its personality and intelligence. All she needed to know was that it was a feline with a natural preference to feed on smaller prey. It was of course impossible for other predator to know that Halo’s rats were not just simple, wild rats, but she cared little about the details. It was easier to simply expose of the lesser predators as she saw fit, and toss a tantrum at other canines if members of the clan managed to make the same mistakes.

”Not my problem,” she replied as the cat wanted to use logic against her. ”Just know that if I see one of you lot close to Inferni, I will cut you in half!” Pupils shrank in seas of scarlet, making this a promise. ”I’ve done it before and I will do it again.” and their pelts were so pretty. She could hunt cats for the quality of their fur alone. So why was she wasting her time conversing with it instead of slaying it? But it was aware of her hostility and she doubted she would be able to draw the sword and strike before it was gone.

The black cat flattened one ear at the callousness of the Inferni coyote's reply; not her problem, as if the life of another was of no more use to her than the dirt she stepped on, and especially her rats which she seemed to keep and love so much.

Element respected her love of her rats - he himself had an affinity of birds, and would never kill one or hunt one for sport - but he doubted they were worth that much to kill one over them; after all, when he had met the Infernian Keychain and she had killed a bird simply because it could fly and she could not, he did not anger over it for too long, nor did he kill her at all. However, this woman - did she say she had done it before?

"Done it before? You have slain others like me before?" the cat hissed coldly, his ears now both flattened. He disliked what she had said; it was like she didn't care for the life of another, another that had the same intelligence as her, and killing them as if they didn't matter in the least - her eyes seemed to be narrowed in anger, or was it contempt? He didn't know, and he didn't care - he knew that if the female was angry enough and resentful enough of his kind as he once was hers, she would carry out the threat, whether he had done anything wrong or not.

This little kitty had no right to use such a tone with her, though then the same would go for her and her lack of manners towards him. Finely designed eyebrows rose slowly with the acidic “so what” expression burning in scarlet eyes. He had wanted to communicate—he had himself to thank for discovering unpleasant facts. Not he; it! ”The cat seems surprised,” she cooed, believing she could not be alone in collecting beautiful pelts if she had the possibility to get hold of one. As long as they were not of the same species, morale would not suffer heavy blows when she dealt with them. She was overall unpleasant, but coyotes were less unfairly treated because they were her equals. Everyone else could just burn for all she cared, for she ha received little but grief and pain from the rest of the world.

”Your pelt is like silk to touch, it's very valuable,” she said, revealing that she harboured not only hatred for the its kind. No, she quite adored them once they were dead. ”Black will look better than tabby against my own colours, I think,” she said, cocking her head slightly while thinking of best way to use such pristine fur.

Element bristled - he didn't like this woman at all, not one bit. She had said 'the cat', as if she were talking to someone else and he wasn't even there, he wasn't even an item that was worth registering. He didn't normally get angry, but he was on the verge of simply spinning around and stalking away to his home in the library - that was, before the woman said something else that stopped him right in his tracks. His entire body felt cold now.

"Did... did you say tabby?"

His tail kinked in a strange way, in a strange sort of twitch - suddenly memories came flooding to him. Perhaps she was talking about some other cats she had... seen... not actually murdered, not actually killed. She had to be talking about something else. His entire body was frozen, as were his emerald eyes - frozen on the terrible female before him, equipped with swords and slavering jaws, while the feline on the floor had nothing but claws and teeth. His mind was frozen - he was waiting for an answer.

While the pretty predator’s face was slightly alien to the exotic optime, she didn’t miss the stiffness that entered only a moment after her words had been spoken out loud.

Pupils dilated within sharp crimson seas; reluctantly curious about the shock that suddenly was displayed on a face dressed with black fur. The wolfess’ lips parted to reveal two rows of pristine white teeth; a cruel, relaxed smile. Why should it make her happy to inflict pain upon others? Where was the logic in that? Just so that she could bask in another creature’s misery instead of her own?

The unkind woman answered truthfully. ”I did.” She wanted to speak more words; of the lovely hide she had cut off the body while it was still warm. Could it by chance be a friend of this feline she had slaughtered in cold blood? Or was it simply the idea of a wolf collecting cat furs? Perhaps the woman should have been ashamed of herself, but she wasn’t a soul destined to go to heaven.

fy said it was okay for us to pp sepirah ^^ and mad kitty :O

The ebony cat sat, frozen, staring at the black coyote before him as she asserted that she had indeed said a tabby cat. It was as if every bit of him was frozen in time, for he didn't move at all - one would think that he had died if not for the brightness of his green eyes transfixed on the creature before him. Creature, because she was no... she was nothing. Everything suddenly snapped in that instant - the blood he had found on Inferni's borders. Flower's blood. The scent of the coyote that had slaughtered her.. it was familiar now, familiar because the thing was standing right before him.

In that instant, eerie frozen calm was replaced with fire. Rage. Fury beyond which he had ever felt before - the partner of his life, his love, his best friend had been stolen away by this monster, this creature that had only coveted his love's fur. Everything in his vision was now tinged red, and his muscles tensed - there was a roaring in his ears, an impossibly strong surge of emotion, of rage, that ran the course of his veins throughout his entire body.

Then he leapt.

Not caring for his well being, not caring that the creature before him was so much larger than himself and wielded two swords, he leapt towards her, a strangled and furious screech coming from his throat. His claws were unsheathed, and his only aim at that moment was to cause pain to this creature, to have revenge, REVENGE.

Let me know if you want anything changed!

Pupils dilated with adrenaline-soaked shock as the still creature burst into a motion of a calibre that she seldom had seen. A feline’s swiftness and grace was renown, though blood red eyes saw no beauty as the feral beast came at her with curved claws sprouting from its cuddly, miniature paws. This was her own doing, of course. Dark lips revealed lines of jagged white as the black animal executed whatever distance there had been between them in no time at all. Even at this time, a part of her had to admire the creature. Until its puny claws sank into her skin, lightly protected by auburn pelt.

Instinct drove a growl to rise within the woman’s throat, though the smile she had worn before the animal lost her mind seemed to linger in the edges of her lips, though consorted by her toothed frown. Her own claws outsized the cat’s, unfortunately for him. The woman took a step back at the violent contact, and turned her face half away in mild fear that he might reach up and do sour damage. The small creature was quick and lethal, but Halo still hovered above him in the food chain. The two cats would be together again soon – or at least their hides would.

Her own claws sought to dig into his smaller frame; to obliterate the creature’s possibility to claw his way further up. A light tinge of maroon already tainted the air, but it was with satisfaction she took note of this, for this meant that she had to punish the insolent creature before the flaying knife was to be drawn. Perhaps he’d like to be alive and awake for the flaying. The cat’s sharp weapons hurt, but she could go beyond that, with her superior strength and weaponry. The returning footsteps of her half-sister sounded in deaf ears. The Lykoi woman’s finger’s curled, seeking an unkind grip on the wild cat’s scruff.
