Buried surprises.

The air in the house was filled with a series of 'SHHH'-ing, as the coywolf tried to silence the bleating female goat. Today was the day the craftsman would show it to Skye, as a surprise gift for her. There was a series of strange looks that graced her fire-laced face the past few days, when Bangle acted strange in order to cover up the random sounds and things that the goat produced. The young female creature was stashed in the back room of Bangle's shack, but it couldn't be hidden for much longer. The salesman was already quite a shady character, but the female who had come to be his other half couldn't be phased by this. Though it had only been a few days, already the female was changing the traveler who drifted like the currents of the wind.

Tying a halter to the goat, whom he had yet to name, the goat quieted some. There was already evidence of the creature being someone's pet, for there were small beads in the short, chocolate mane of the animal. Placing a finger over his lips again, indicating the creature should be quiet, Bangle opened the door to the outside. The morning was quiet, and somewhat cloudy, as the pair stepped out of their house in Thornbury. The creature made several clip clop sounds as it hopped off its captor's porch, following on the loose rope that the coywolf held.

Slowly, he rounded the bend and headed towards Skye's house, though no signs of movement were evident. As they neared towards the front of the house, the goat bleated, and Bangle stopped in his tracks and squeezed his bright eyes shut. "Be quiet!" Bangle hissed through his teeth, turning and leaning towards the creature. However, his expression lightened when its legs locked up, body falling towards the earth in shock. The coywolf slapped a free hand across his lips to keep from chuckling too loudly, finding that the animal's condition was a great trade-off for its misbehavior.

Skye had been working in the garden. Rotting peels and spraying water and the whole thing she was doing - he had been doing it like mad, trying to keep these plants, these ridiculous plants from dying. She didn't wnat them to die, but for some reason, they just kept going brown and wilting. Skye just kept having to root them up and throw them away. It was sad - she didn't want to have to throw away her darlings, but if she didn't, dead roots would tangle in live ones and then there would be absolutely no more plants for her. And that would be very, very bad.

She heard voices, however, and she stood from her gardening reluctantly. She wanted to keep working, but something told her that would get her called a workoholic, or a treehugger, or something equally embarrassing but true. She peered through the trees to see what the noise was and was immediately amused at what she saw.

It was Bangle (of course it was Bangle; everything funny and strange had to do with Bangle). He was leading an adorable brown and cream goat over to her house, and was appearing to be trying to do it as secretly and quietly as possible. A few times, the goat bleated, and Bangle immediately shushed him or her. Skye stifled a giggle - what was Bangle doing with that cute goat, and why was he trying to make it be quiet? She thought she knew, oh yes she did!

She was about to step out to greet Bangle and ask what he was doing when he told the goat to be quiet. Then the goat just...fainted. Just fainted dead away. Skye stared in disbelief, then let out a long laugh - it was like bells. She laughed long and she laughed loud, stepping out from behind her garden so that she faced Bangle and the goat. When she stopped laughing and it subsided into giggles, she spoke. "Bangle, what are you doing to that poor goat?" she asked, still giggling. The goat seemed to be a bit dazed for a moment, but its eyes quickly cleared up and it let out another bleat before getting up.

Skye walked towards the creature and held out a hand, petting the goat on the head. "What a cutie pie," she crooned. "Yes you are! You're a cutie pie!" She looked up to Bangle, a big grin on her face.

It seemed like sneaking around the animal to surprise the red headed female backfired. When Bangle turned his head back towards their destination, his eyes drank in the sight of the one in question. Bat-like ears easily caught the sound of her laughter, a sound quite deceiving to anyone who did not hear the poison that she could spew from the same lips that were now stretched in a grin. His grin matched her own, glad to hear her laughter after all the skepticism and questioning he received whenever she visited him in his shack.

The toothy smile on his face remained as she drew near, and he smelled the earth that clung to her fur. Her hands were stained, which stood out from her pure white coloration. Though her question caught him off guard, something he didn't expect to hear that morning. He was hoping maybe for a welcome greeting, or a warm smile... but no. Suddenly she was accusing him of having done something to the fallen goat at his side. Rolling his bright orange eyes, he looked down at her as she scratched the goat's head. "More like what it did t' me! He ruined yer surprise!" He blurted, looking up into the sky. The secret was already out in the open, so he may as well save some face.

As Skye said her next string of words, Bangle smiled, gazing still into the cloudy skies. "Oh, why thank yeh, but y' didn't 'ave to tell me." He said, taking a moment to side glance down at the female, hoping she'd catch on to his little joke. The coywolf tried not to look too embarrassed that the surprise was ruined, eyes glinting with humor as they so often did.

Big Grin if you want it edited so that bangle names him cheddar, i can edit this!

Skye grinned as Bangle reacted indignantly. What the goat did to him...how ridiculous! She laughed,a light sound, and patted Bangle on the head the same way she patted the goat on the head. "Stop worrying, or you'll faint, too," she said, grinning. Then, without warning, she leaned in and kissed the coywolf on the cheek - it was brief, but it was clear and bright and wonderful all the same. She then pulled away, her eyes shining and bright. "Thank you, Bangle - he's wonderful." And he was - she loved that little goat instantly, like he suddenly cast a spell so that she must love him immediately. Some of it had to do with how darn cute the thing was, some of it had to do with the fact that Bangle, her beloved mate, had given the goat to her, and some of it had to do with the fact that Skye just liked animals. Besides, if they managed to find a female goat, they could breed them and get yummy goat milk.

Skye smiled wryly at his joke. "Oh, no, you don't have anyone tell you that," she said dryly, her eyes sparkling with humor. She petted the goat once more, and it let out a happy squeal. "Oh! He likes me!" she giggled. She wasn't used to animals liking her - Jack certainly hadn't at first, although he was warming up to her now. "What's his name?" She looked up at Bangle. "Wait! No. I know his name!" She leaned down so that she was face-to-face with the fainting goat. "You're a Cheddar, aren't you?"

The little goat bleated, and Skye jumped up in delight. She looked at the coywolf, her face full of happiness. "Cheddar it is!" she said. She looked down at the goat. "Come on, Cheddar! Let's go garden." She began to walk towards the garden, and the goat bleated once and followed her. She giggled - she hoped Bangle would follow, too. She wanted to show both of her men how wonderful her garden was - and Cheddar was more than happy to oblige.

431 words. Totally replaced! Damn goats, nothing but trouble.

He was quickly surprised how quick Skye bounced back with humor of her own, and the coywolf knew he must have been rubbing off on her - just as she did to him. But before he could open his merchant-like mouth to speak, she quickly pressed her lips to his fur, and immediately he was silenced. The red that flushed on his face mingled in with the several red colors that made up the coywolf, but never was the salesman so flustered as he was then. Curling and uncurling his hands, all the traveler did was nod when she thanked him.

The male was always one for words - he always had a quip, a phrase, a remark, or something to say to just about anything. But how this female rendered him speechless was just another mystery for him to solve. He had yet to come to realize he even had a mate, the idea was far too strange to the former gypsy. But he did know one thing, it was that his heart was glad to see Skye happy, after all the trauma that they - that all of Cercatori - had been going through recently. The fainting goats had become a relief to the entire pack, but what he cared most was how Skye would react. Now Sky and Skye had goats, and Bangle laughed slightly at the strangeness of it all.

And Bangle stood back to observe the two, wolf and goat, two likely enemies who were now enthralled with one another. The female goat took to Skye immediately, unlike how the creature reacted to the coywolf. Then again, scaring her often wasn't helping form a good bond, either. Skye asked for a name, and truthfully the coywolf hadn't thought of one. Again he opened his mouth to respond, but he shut it once again when she seemed to answer her own question. Cheddar..? She wanted to name the cheese-producing goat... Cheddar? "I--"

But it was too late. Before he could even protest, already Skye took the small rope from his hands and was leading it towards the garden. Bright orange eyes stared wide after the retreating pair, with mixed feelings - mostly of surprise. He couldn't believe it, instantly he was replaced by the goat. The male felt like scaring it once more, just to make himself feel better, but instead his shoulders slumped, as the red headed female turned to look and see if he was following. And he did, though he very much felt like he was the pet now, hanging by a rope.

pooooor bangle xD

Skye hummed as she walked with her new goat, which she realized was a female. That meant she could get some goat's milk, easier than if she had to go digging for another goat for them to breed with. Great! She turned back and saw Bangle - he looked rather dejected. She tutted at him. "Come on, Bangle - you know I love you," she said, a teasing light in her eyes. The way he looked at her, it was like she had replaced him with the goat! Well...she looked down into the goat's adorable eyes, then back at Bangle, laughing. Of course she loved Bangle more than the goat! That was why they were mates!

She walked to the garden, closing the gap between her and her precious sprouts. She knelt down in the dirt, letting go of Cheddar's rope and lifting a leaf of one of the plants - it had drooped. And that was one of the blue berry ones, too! Sighing, she took her watering can that was only a few inches away and watered the plant, making sure that droplets of water covered the entire thing - it would freeze, like it always did, and give warmth to the plant.

She looked up to see the other plants and to her horror, she saw Cheddar nibbling on the leaf of one of the red berry plants. "Get away from that!" she scolded loudly, walking towards the female goat. The goat stopped eating her plant and looked up with wide, frightened eyes. Suddenly, its legs locked up, and she fell over. Skye rolled her eyes, but her anger was gone - the goat was just so adorable, and her plant wasn't damaged anyways. She petted the goat, who bleated once and quickly got back to her feet.
