Turn Back Now [AW]
#1
Quote:OoC: Rew is only at the very edge of the border at the base of the Phosphagos Hills. I have dubbed the day January 26th, at seven in the morning. If anyone objects to this post being here, please feel free to have it deleted. I just wanted to have Rew have a run in with one of the darker packs....

Too close.

Her hackles rose in the dim light of the winter morning. Sweeping down from the mountains and to the seashore, the waves smashing at the sand and rock, the scent of many burned her nose. Packlands, no doubt, just a small ways up the hills. Her journey from one end of the Quartz to the other had brought her to claimed territory. The urge to growl was great, and she could already feel a tickle in her throat.

She skulked along the edge of the packlands, amber eyes wary. Turn back! Turn back NOW! her mind screamed, and Rewdeynetya would do so. However, her worry was that, with her scent planted on the border of the pack's claim, someone would follow her. She could smell the scent of recent passings-through, and something in her gut told her there were patrols. Rewdeynetya had been cocky, not listening to the wind, not relying on experience. She simply had had to see the other end of the shore, and know what might lie there. That way, she could not be caught unaware of something...but was the risk worth it?

Nobody in the New World probably knew her name. Most Luperci immigrants were of European stock, as the northern wolves were the fastest to master Man's left-behinds. Still, that deep, ever-present paranoia within her told her to run. Run, hide, and hope to whatever deities existed that no one took offence. Slowly, the jackal-wolf backed up, crouched awkwardly down in Optime in a slinking, stealthy position. She resembled very much a canine on the prowl, and hopefully, no one would take it as her trying to spy on something.

ooc;; hope you dont mind me joining! and Teddy is a paranoid person right now, so bear with him!

Anathema had increased in activity- not only were more people joining but there were more curious people skulking round the borders, trying to get a sneaky peak at their pack life. In all honesty there wasnt exactly much going on in Anathema right now- the settling down period had just finished, they were assigned dens and they settled in, they picked up a regular patrol of tbe borders and they nursed their own talents to become better than anyone else. That was perhaps how packs went- always striving for the top position whilst protecting the soft yolk of the pack inside. Their yolk was in the form of numerous puppies in Anathema. Eris and Larkspur had given birth to three of them back in December and very soon they would be out and about. Naniko and Selene had bought one puppy each and they were both old enough to cause havoc. The last one probably wouldnt be called a puppy for long and he certainly didnt resemble any puppy Teddy knew- Itachi was an odd one it was known.

So with more pups to look after and the fact that people seemed to want to come this way all of a sudden, Teddy had found himself out by the borders a lot more recently. He had mainly stuck to the area just outside the two main entrances to the cave system- the slope of land leading to the small wood that people seemed to come out of often. However, he had noticed that that the Serene Sands and the Phosphagos Foothills were being neglected. So he had switche dhis attention to these two sites the past few days. He hadn't seen anything and the darkening sky threatened to chuck down with rain when he came to settle atop one of the highest points. He hunkered down, determined to stay here for a few hours before he called it a day.

He was, of course, in luck. Eagle-sharp blue eyes watched as a dark shaped optime form slunk around the base of one of the foothills. From here Teddy couldnt see if the wolf was inside Anathema's borders or just outside it. This was unacceptable. Standing, Teddy trotted easily down the hill on four paws. He reached the skulking form in less than ten minutes. As he came to a stop close by he shifted to his Optime form, hands going to the weapons belt tied around his waist. It had been present in his lupus form, the thick strip of leather around his body. Hostile blue eyes came up to meet amber ones and he walked forward with purpose to his step.

"You appear to be skulking around the edges of my packlands... what exactly are your intentions here?"

Came his cold words as he crossed his arms over his barrell like chest and waited for an answer. She, as it appeared to be, was not going to be getting up to any funny business today- not on his watch anyway.

Quote:OoC: I don't mind at all. Considering the type of werewolf Rew is, it's probably for the best he comes down.

Sure enough, someone came crawling down from the mountains eventually. From the edge of the trees, the unnaturally bright blue eyes of a scout bore into hers. Rewdeynetya stiffened, lowering her head and ears, narrowing her eyes as her tail relaxed. The wolf before her was armed, and with enough bulk and muscle behind him for a fatal blow. Compared to her speed-built form, he looked more likely to break something important of hers in a fight.

There were several ways she could deal with him. One was just ignoring him and turning away, but that might provoke something. The next was answering his question, but she'd rather not be drilled by a paranoid pack member. Looking at his eyes and face, she could see signs of worry and tiredness faintly under his fur. Those strange, brightly blue eyes had nothing but distrust as they stared at her.

Then, she could play up the fact she was a foreigner. Just a cold, frightened little half-wolf — her jackal's features were too delicate for a coyote crossbreed's — who had wandered too close to claimed land. Rewdeynetya might be able to gain the pity of the wolf, and he would let her off, perhaps with a stern warning. After all, it was harder to say she had ill intent if she was a confused little immigrant, right?

Her eyes looked back up with a puppy-dog's gaze. She let out a pathetic whine, her tail curling beneath her. It wasn't the most dignified display, but there were less dignified things in life.

ooc;; haha, faking ignorance was probably the worst thing rew could have done! poor thing!

She seemed off, this lurker around his borders. She wasnt full wolf- her appearance and scent made him fuly aware of that. But he wasnt sure what she was mixed with. Not coyote, perhaps some kind of dog or other canis species. Blue eyes bore into her, trying to figure out what she was. Of course, her own reaction to his words was very interesting. She seemed to pause for a moment, thinking through her options. If she ran, he would have dragged her back here and demanded to know exactly why she felt the need to run. It really wasnt an option for her. If she chose to stay and talk this out, explain why she was here and what she was doing, Teddy might had been lenient on her and explained about Anathema- they were never tired of taking in more members. There was so much room now that most of the caves were empty. However, she chose an option that had already cost a coyote his life when he'd trespassed- ignorance.

She of course couldnt have known about Izaak. Teddy believed him to have been a spy, come to seek out the vulnerable in Anathema and kill them. He'd made it all the way to the entrance of the Howling Caverns before his singing and the hoofbeats of the albino reindeer with him had alerted Teddy to their presence. Thinking on it now, why would a spy have been singing? And why bring a hard-hoofed animal with them, to a cave system of stone where it would echo all the way down? He didnt want to think too much on that. He could still remember the strange language with which he spoke and it had irritated and angered the warrior that there was a language barrior. So, when she looked up at him with puppy eyes and spoke in the weirdest tongue he'd ever heard he was immediately reminded of the coyote.

"I am not going through this again. Do you speak my language?"

Teddy made sure he was clearly pronounciating the words, bright blue eyes clouded for a moment. He fought to keep his anger under control- thinking on it now he could see traces of coyote-like features around her. Was this another spy, sent here to confuse him while some other scumbag reached the cave? He hoped Liev was around, and maybe that new behemoth Viking. They would be guarding the caves, wouldnt they?

Quote:OoC: Rew doesn't need a "poor thing" from anybody. If Teddy knew she was a natural turncoat, it wouldn't surprise me if he did more than just snap at her.

Perhaps ignorance wasn't the best to feign. The wolf looked annoyed, and Rewdeynetya didn't want to risk being flayed by something he was armed with. Her cover, however, might have severe consequences if she tried to blow it. She would have to play along, but more cooperatively.

"Eh...I sorry," she explained, her Arabic accent laid on thick. "I...not here from. I...what word? Someone...from far away, yus. Too much walking. Not careful. I sorry for...cannot think of word...hmmmm."

She had to be careful to make her English seem passable. Her father had been fluent in human English, and Rewdeynetya had grown up in a bilingual den. Too used was she to comebacks and explanations in English, and if her fluency slipped, so would her guise. It was probably helping she still had that submissive, unsure posture, like a pup who was looking up at the adults of another pack.

"I...not what you call...coy-o-tah?" she added, tilting her head in what would appear to be confusion. "Something...not coy-o-tah. Sca...er...eats dead things, but not coy-o-tah. Very close look, but not coy-o-tah, yus. I make senseness?"

The language barrier would always be a problem with Theodore. He wasnt exactly what one would call flexible- he was set on his course and he was getting to where he wanted to go. Everything else on the way was merely a distraction and when that distraction couldnt speak the same language as him, it was always met with the same response to a physical attack- aggression. Of course, add in to the fact that the female was hanging round his borders and looking pretty shifty meant that she was even more of a distraction. He knew that he should calm down and try to talk diplomatically- try and higher Anathama's standards in Nova Scotia by not being so aggressive towards everyone and anyone that came sniffing at his borders. But in all honesty, Teddy was never a friendly man on a nice day, let alone on a day faced with a foreigner.

She seemed to understand his threat though and she immediatley started to babble in broken English. Though he wanted to roll his eyes he stopped himself- broken english was better than no english at all. Of course, in his head he translated, trying to make sense of what she was saying. Her first broken English words were an apology and Teddy nodded once to let her know he understood. He really was trying to pull some patience out of his ass and present it to her to say that this pack wasn't a bunch of anti-social murderers and rapist. Of course, that might not be totally true but she didnt need to know that, did she?

"Do you have a name for where you came from?"

He asked, his words marginally softer and more patient than before. Naniko would be proud of him. Before she could answer his quick question, she had begun to speak about coyote's. Or in the most round about manner Teddy could possobly have thought of to explain that she wasnt a coyote. He almost smiled, but reminded himself that laughing at her would not be diplomatic at all. So instead he listened to what she had to say, nodding every few moments when she paused to think of what she would say. Of course, Teddy never expected something off about her- she was just a harmless traveller.

"But you have wolf in you- I can see if. A halfbreed?"

He asked. To anyone in his pack that knew even a little bit about him, this situation would have made them laugh. Teddy Stone trying to communicate with a wolf hybrid that didnt speak much english. Interesting.

Quote:"Do you have a name for where you came from?"

"Eh...no, not in your language," said the jackal-wolf. He was buying it! "Not sure how said. Very hot place, very far from here. Hot, hot, hot. Not like place this. Sand everywhere, yus, yus."

Quote:"But you have wolf in you- I can see if. A halfbreed?"

"Yus! Eura...Euro...Eurey...I know not word," she said, shrugging as much being on all fours would allow. "But but, yus, wolf-like. Wolf father. Very big, very northy, very wolfy. Not like him much, more like not-coy-o-tah." She was letting off a sigh of relief in her mind, but neither posture nor face betrayed such. Here she was, seemingly a simple foreigner, unused to the geography of the New World's coastal lands. That much was true, at least; she wasn't sure what might happen if they met again. If he caught her speaking perfect English, no doubt he'd have some very tough questions to ask. Rewdeynetya wanted to avoid a pack-versus-loner fight as much as she could.

"Come too far?" she asked, tilting her slender hear. "Yus, very sorry. Would go when asked. Pack, smell is curious, I curious. No mean badness, mean myselfness, go away-ness when asked."

Oh yeah, she sounded like a foreign buffoon, all right. Rewdeynetya gave a sheepish smile to top off the cheesiness of her character, the awkwardness of the moment for her.

"I turn and go back way, yus...? Pack there too?"

As soon as she had recognised the language she was expected to speak, she seemed to grasp very quickly what he was saying and how to respond. A little too quickly, Teddy may have realised if he looked at this situation with any form of patience. But he wasnt good with foriegners, he wasnt patient and he wasn't a very kind man. So all he really wanted was to send her on her way and get back to patrolling the borders. A small voice in the back of his head said that this was his job, to protect Anathema and to patrol the borders. Still, he wasnt really banking on meeting someone who didnt speak his language and the grumpy warrior was never one to be opened minded about these things. He was vey tempted to put up and aggressive front and tell her to leave but something held him back. He listened to her words, finding it hard to make sense of them himsef.

"Okay then... so you're definitely not from around here then..."

He offered gruffly, unsur whether the last sentence was for himself or for the female in front of him. Next had come his question about what she was- her strange looks spiking his curiosity more than anything. She looked similar to the wolf they had dispatched but there was certainly wolf in her. She gushed over her words and Teddy furrowed his brows as he concentrated on trying to figure out what she was saying. In the end it was almost clear what she meant without him having to pick out the individual words. He nodded his head, wonderig how on earth she had managed to get here.

"Wolf father coyote mother... A half breed."

He knew he was roughly right and this would be a generalisation of what she actually meant. Tail swished once to keep from getting stiff behind him as she babbled once more. It seemed as though they were playin a game- she babbling and rushing over her words, he trying to figure them out and respondng appropriately. He would not be so patient soon and the female would have to leave else Teddy would get mad. It seemed she had piced this up as she roughly told him she would leave when asked. He wasnt quite done yet however and he allowed blue eyes to look down at her. Though she had said why she was here, she didnt say what had brought her this way.

"Are you staying in this area? Where are you sleeping?"

He asked, hoping to get out of he whether she would be staying in the area or whether she was on her way to the central lands of Nova Scotia. He hoped they would not have the foriegn wolf skulking around their borders for long.
