they bring a smile of warmth

They were such small bundles of fur, so absolutely tiny and perfectly formed. She did not know what she had expected to feel after they had been born, but that she felt was the flooding sensation of absolute love and adoration. She had created these three small lives with Haven, her mate and her lover, her perfect match. Though she had seemingly always known that they were meant for each other, the creation of these small lives had only brought them closer together, the young Lady Chance thought. Not only had this joyous occasion brought her closer to the love of her life, her wonderful pumpkin Knight, she did hope that it would also bring her closer to the family that he loved and that he shared a very close bond with. Particularly with Mati, she hoped that this would be the case. She had not started off on very good terms with the larger Church wolfess, and though things had seemingly gotten better between the two of them with time, Princess still did not know how Mati truly felt about her brother’s mate.

She did not know where anyone else was that morning, something that the young Lady Chance found very strange indeed. The home that she shared with Haven and Alder—and now Linden, Robin, and Felicity as well, of course—had been feeling very small as of late with both Mati and Cambria having come to stay with them for the birth. It had been feeling small and cramped with so many adults under one roof, but now that the puppies had finally arrived, Princess was feeling significantly less crowded than she had been in the days of anticipation leading up to when she finally gave birth to the three lovely puppies that her curled in a blanket on her lap as she rested on the couch with her knees folded beneath her. No longer did she feel suffocated in her own home as she had in the last few days of her pregnancy, though she felt that it was very strange indeed to find herself alone with her three children when the house had been so full as of late.

He had known that Princess Chance and Haven Aatte were expecting a litter of their own, though he had not yet ventured to visit either of them. The dog mutt of a King had been very busy with his own sons and taking care of Ayita, and he had decided that he did not want to crowd the expectant mother and father with his presence when he was already so distracted with everything that had been happening in his life. Magnolia had come to live with Niro, and it had brought a pang of sadness to the caramel-colored dog's heart to realize that he would never have the chance to know Poppy or Foxglove, for they had left with Lolita. In some perverse way, it saddened him to know that his niece was gone now, as well. They had not been close—her attempt on his life more than a year prior showed that well enough, he thought—but at least he had known where she was. She was a part of his deceased beloved sister, and that had counted for something for him.

It had come time for him to pay a visit to the budding family, Vigilante had decided, and he suspected that the puppies might even be born already. Princess and Ayita had both been pregnant for an overlapping period of time and his own sons were now a bit over a month old, so there was a very good chance that the Lady and the Knight had become parents already. Though both Noah and Liam had protested loudly, wanting to accompany their father on whatever journey he was making away from their home in Lunenburg, the secui King had ignored their pleas and left them with their mother. Certainly the boys loved her, and being home with her was not the problem. Noah seemed to idolize his father, and Liam always wanted to do whatever Liam was doing. However, it was growing very cold and the dog mutt did not want either of his sons to become sick, so they had been left at home with Ayita and Kambujiya. They would be fine.

The trek through the snow was not a terribly long one and it was early afternoon when he approached the home that Haven and Princess had shared since her arrival in the pack nearly a year ago. Though he did not use his optime form today, he lifted a paw and rapped on the door, hoping that one or both of them would be home so that he could congratulate them on becoming parents and, if the puppies had arrived already, meet his newest pack members.

Her lovely golden gaze settled on the three squirming, squeaking bodies in her lap. Though she had expected them to be large, and certainly two of them were larger than the third, because of Haven's towering size over her, they seemed so tiny and fragile, as she knew that they were. Linden and Robin were both larger than Felicity was, though her frame seemed more delicate than either of theirs, and the new mother suspected that the small girl with coloring similar to her own would also take after her in petite size and stature. It was strange to imagine them grown, and it would not happen for quite some time, but the young Lady Chance secretly suspected that both Linden and Robin would grow to be larger than her and would take after Haven's build, a size that seemed to run in his family, given that his sister was also a very large woman herself. Not fat, surely, but she was much larger than Princess herself was. It had almost been intimidating at first.

The sound of a knock on the door, a strangely sounding one that lacked the strength and conviction of an actual fist, drew her out of her silent admiration of the three beautiful puppies in her lap. Princess had not been expecting anyone and, as a result, had been caught unaware by the sound of someone at their door. She did not have the faintest idea of who that could be, as she did not think it was Haven or Alder, or even Mati or Cambria, returning to the house. They could all easily walk in on their own and would not need to knock. She scented the air tentatively, but the smell of whomever it was had been covered by the heavy smell of the fire that was burning beneath the mantle.

Keeping the three small lives bundled in the blanket, Princess placed them gently on the couch next to the spot she had been occupying. "I'll be right back, little ones," she whispered tenderly, though she knew that they were not yet capable of hearing their mother's voice or seeing her face. They knew her only by her scent, but that would change in a few weeks time, surely. She straightened the light cotton dress she had been wearing, for it was warm enough in the house that she could wear one of her summer dressed without any problems, before walking to the door. She opened it almost warily, golden gaze meeting the deep jade of her King's. He was on all fours, which explained why the knock had sounded so strange. She could hardly have expected a visit from him, so she wondered what had brought him here. "Hello, King Vigilante. Please come in," she said, holding the door for him as he walked in and then closely it quickly to preserve the warmth inside the house. "What brings you here?" Princess could not imagine what it could be, though she hoped he hadn't come all the way here to find Haven, because her mate was not at home.

Though his visit was unannounced and unexpected, Vigilante hoped that one or both of the new parents would be home. He could smell the fire that was going, so he certainly hoped that they were home, lest something bad be happening to their home in their absence. With Princess so close to her due date (or even past it, for he did not know for certain which it was), the King could not imagine why they would be away from home in such cold temperatures anyway. Rather, he expected that Haven would still be performing his duties as the Miracles pack's Knight, but he did not think that the young Lady Chance would be going to any great lengths to stay away from her home. Ayita had not done so near the end of her pregnancy, either, and that had suited him rather well, for he would have worried greatly about her safety and well-being, and those of their unborn pups as well, otherwise.

He was not to be disappointed or kept waiting for very long, as the door was opened shortly by the young woman of the house. Jade eyes met her own golden gaze and he offered her a polite smile as she spoke. Though his attention did not leave her face, he did notice that absence bulge of her belly that indicated that she had already delivered her puppies, for he was certain that he would have heard if something had gone wrong with his pack member's pregnancy. "Thank you, Princess. You are very kind," he spoke as she held the door for him and he padded inside, wondering if it might have been more beneficial to use his smaller lupus form in the small home, but he was far too accustomed to using the muscular halfling form. "I wanted to extend my congratulations on becoming parents to both you and Haven. I would have come sooner, but I have been busy with my own two boys and did not want to crowd your space," he offered.

Just as she had never made that much of an effort to make close friends within the pack of Miracles and misfits that she now called home happily, Princess had never taken the time to learn much about their noble King. She did know that she was more fond of him as a leader than she had been of Jacquez, though the one-armed collie man had been very flattering, and she had liked that very much. The young Lady Chance knew very little about the curly-tailed dog that had been their leader for quite some time now, though she knew that Haven respected him, and that was good enough for her. If Haven thought that he was a good man to have as a leader, then the young woman shared a similar opinion. She would not mind knowing him better as a leader, though.

"Thank you," she said, though the reason for his visit surprised her. It made perfect sense that he would be interested in meeting his newest pack members, and she knew that he and Haven were on friendly terms with one another. Though the young Lady Chance had not known about the birth of his children, for she was often uninformed about the goings on in the pack, she smiled at his news. "Congratulations to you, too. How old are they?" She was happy for Vigilante and Ayita, and it was also good news that her and Haven's puppies would have puppies in the pack that were close to their own age, or so she assumed. It would have been so much better if Ruri and Heath had not left... She missed them greatly, and she had been really excited at the prospect of raising their children together. She knew that Haven had felt the same way, and she knew that he missed Heath a very great deal.

Her eyes travelled to the couch and she asked, "Would you like to meet them?" Her King nodded and she led him to the couch, settling herself to sit where she had been only moments before she had gone to answer the door. She lifted the burnt orange-brown puppy with the bicolored ears just like his father's, the sole male in the litter. "This is Linden," she said, settling the large newborn in her lap. In turn, she introduced him to the mottled brown girl with the orange chest and then the petite girl with golden brown patterned fur, saying, "This is Robin, and this is Felicity."

A small smile was offered, a polite acceptance of her congratulations. He was very pleased to have finally begun his own family with Ayita and he dearly loved both of his sons. They had never seemed like a possibility to him in his younger days, and he had never wanted to become a father until he had run away from his past life. Coming to this area, he had desired a mate and puppies for the sole purpose of having the life that he perceived to be normal. It had seemed so unattainable for him, but he had found that, and more. "Thank you. They are just a bit over a month old, very wonderful boys, named Noah and Liam," he said. It was saddening to think of the stillborn daughter that Ayita had named Ame. His grief for her was private, though, so he did not speak of her now.

The caramel-hued King accepted her offer and followed her into the living room where he sat on the other side of the room, watching as she lifted each puppy in turn. "They are beautiful, Princess. You both must be so happy," the noble King spoke to the young mother before him. She was younger than he would have ever chosen to become a parent, but it wasentirely at their discretion as to when they became parents. Perhaps they had merely been ready long before he had ever been.

Princess would eventually need to meet the King's puppies, especially because she was sure that they would be playmates for the children she and Haven had brought into the world, as they were so close in age. The young mother did not think she would be over-protective of the puppies playing with the King's sons, as she knew that Vigilante was an honorable man, so his puppies would be, too. "I must come visit them sometime when these three are a bit older," she said, and she was looking forward to it. She knew that they could not possibly be as cute as these three, though, but she of course wouldn't vocalize that for fear of offending the King of her pack.

"We are, thank you," she said with a bright smile. She and Haven were absolutely perfect together, and she hoped that everyone else could see that as clearly as she could. They were a beautiful couple and had produced magnificent puppies together that they would love and cherish. Golden eyes focused on the King for a moment, wondering if she might bother him with something now that he had come to visit. "I was wondering if I could talk to you about something... I don't really feel like I do much around here, and I kind of want a co-rank, but I don't know what one."

The caramel-colored King was sure that Ayita would be glad for a visit, even if the two females were not very well-acquainted with one another. It would be good for them to be able to meet and speak with one another, particularly as this was Princess' first litter and though Ayita was a new mother as well, she had more experience because of her first litter a bit more than a year prior. "I am sure that Ayita would be glad for the company, and Noah and Liam would enjoy meeting other puppies," he spoke in his usual calm tone. He wanted his sons to be well-socialized and it was good that there were other puppies in the pack.

The tone of Princess' voice changed as she spoke again, and Vigilante recognized this as a complete change from friendly tones to something far more business-like, and he knew that she was speaking to him now as an alpha, not simply a pleasant acquaintance. He thought over the words, considering the co-ranks already held within the pack. He did not know Princess well and had difficulty coming up with a suggestion for her. "What do you enjoy doing? Are you interested in story-telling, or perhaps visiting other packs to learn of them and to spread relations with our pack?" Neither co-rank was occupied, he knew.

The subject was changed now and Princess thought it was strange to have the conversation take on the direction of something more formal, but it was an important thing she had been wanting to discuss with someone. Who would be better than the King himself? She listened to his question, contemplating the ideas. Once upon a time, she might have wanted to have an official job that required her to snoop around other packs and their territories and their members, but she did not know if that quite suited her any longer. The young Lady Chance had hardly even stepped foot outside of the pack's territory since she had been attacked by the white loner on the borders.

Story-telling was an idea, though... She did not know if she had the creativity to come up with stories on her own, but she read a great deal and thought she would be able to adapt some of the stories to fit the luperci lifestyle and that might be something to think about. "I don't think I could be a Reeve, not anymore anyway... I was attacked on the borders once and don't go out much anymore. But a story-teller, that's an idea. Would I have to make them up or could they be based on books? I read a lot," she added, as if that explained everything to her King.

As the pack's blacksmith, Vigilante did not have much work, though he did want to find some soon. Perhaps he could find something to mend or build something, though as of right at that moment, he did not have any specific ideas. He knew that some co-ranks were not as needed and his happened to be one, but he enjoyed working with metal and he did plenty as the King, so he thought it was acceptable. Others were likely more important, but he felt that all jobs within the pack were of great importance.

A frown crossed his features at the mention of her attack. He had known about it, but it still bothered him a great deal and he was glad Haven had been able to rescue her as he had. He could understand why she was not keen on leaving the pack's territory after that, he supposed. "I would think that would be fine," he said lightly. The pack did not yet have a story-teller, and with young puppies, it would be important to have one. He hoped she would consider it.
