Into the lion's den.

OOC All welcome! WC 513

So, this was what it was like to join a pack in this continent... A little anti climactic, if you asked her. Where was the pageantry? The hazing? The wild initiation?

Back in End World if you were discovered to be a loner, and could convince the rapscallions that plagued the city that you were not loyal to a rival gang, they would force you into submission. Swear fealty to their alpha or suffer the consequences... the consequences usually being a slow and torturous death. Nuki knew many a Luperci who had succumbed to this fate, and many more who became loyal mob drones in order to save their pelts. It didn't do them much good, though. With the way life went in End World, unless you were in favor of the rich, fat bosses than ran the place, you would be dead in six months doing their dirty work.

Nuki skated below the radar for most of her life, thanks to deft survival skills and two rogue parents who stuck together long enough to teach the youth how to endure. The life had hardened the woman into a hellion not unlike those she detested in End World, the only difference was she had the brains, skills, and pride to survive on her own. Her caution had afforded her three years so far, and with any luck would fashion many more to come.

Yet after all that time spent in hell, avoiding assimilation into a gang, look at where she found herself now? She had followed a rumor, a rumor spoken by drunkards, the leper-like Luperci of the End World bars. 'There is this place called 'Souls... Nova Scotia, it is... there's no packs there.' Yeah right, disgusting fools. She ought to go back and slay each and every last one of those despicable men.

Three years of avoiding capture in End World... for this? For dropping her tail, averting her eyes, and requesting admittance into a pack. A damnable pack. And still she did not know the purpose, she only knew that she had to do it. Her instincts screamed at her, she had to follow them. There was something... something looming over the horizon that she could not yet understand, that forced her to seek rank among a pack... just days after she murdered one of their members.

Now she stood in the lion's den surrounded by the Crimson Dreams territory. This place was seething with mindless wolves, packed to the borders, she assumed, with people quick to tuck their tails and obey – just as she had to in order to ensure her survival. But they were not merely trying to survive. Their membership here was permanent. They were disgusting.

The scoundrel, the newest member of Crimson Dreams, stood outside Haven Manor, her hands on her hips as she studied the structure. For now, she would find a room inside and make it her home. Her very, very temporary home, she promised herself. Just long enough to find out what this feeling was all about, then get out of here.

hi! Big Grin

The girl was feeling bright despite those that were sick among her family. Winter had not been good to the Dreamers, and Mati was feeling the depression that had settled into the mind of her mate, and as well as her mother. Mati's brother had chosen to live with the Cours wolves, and such a choice had hurt their mother so much so that she had become ill. The bronze fey was happy for Alder, knowing that where he was was a safe place and with Haven he would be guided onto a path of a noble man. But despite that happiness Mati worried for her mate, who's sister had fallen into a sleep that she could not wake from. It seemed to be a step from death, something no one could accept. But she had found a small task that would keep her mind from growing idle and sinking into depression.

She hummed to herself as if there was nothing to be sorrowful about, and carried the heavy load of timber towards the Manor. Mati had never lived anywhere else, and was content in growing old with the female she loved and having their own family here. It was a place of peace, despite the inner turmoil. While others would fall and break apart at such troubles, the Dreamers banned together and grew strong. Violet eyes looked up at the snow covered house, seeing the tan figure standing there. She grew curious, the scent on the wind was new and different.

Mati walked towards the woman, still feeling light-hearted and called to the newcomer. Hello there. Mati readjusted her arms, shifting the branches slightly. The small greeting held a hidden question, what was she doing here?

A voice trilled in her ears and Nuki turned around to the sight of the girl. Well, woman, actually, but she had the cute youthfulness of a young woman who was still untainted by this world. Or at least who did not show her corruption. She looked at the woody Luperci for just a beat before cracking a smile, her crimson eyes peering into the girl's own striking royal purple.

“Oh, hello,” she said, her voice the epitome of surprised yet kind stranger. Nuki's gaze flicked to the armload the girl was carrying, and in a moment she paced through the snow to cover the ground between them. The Rakezael woman thought she detected a hint of veiled unease in the woman. Well, it was to be expected when running into a strange wolf well within your pack's borders. “I was just admiring the manor. Do you need a hand with that?”

She held her hands out, ready for the girl to unload some of the burden on her. She suddenly rolled her eyes at herself in a very 'where's my manners' sort of way. “Oh, by the way, my name is Nuki. The latest... or I assume the latest... Plebian addition to your pack.” She offered a warm smile. “And how might I address you, my fair friend?”

It had been some time since Mati had met a newcomer. Her world was so small and filled with close friends and family that she did not meet many new friends. But winter was a time when strays came to seek the warmth of the pack's embrace, and she was not surprised to see that the pack had gained another member. The bronze wolfess gave the other female a small smile as she turned to face her and respond to her greeting. There was no question that this woman held a slightly intimidating stance, her features were not scarred or battle worn but there was no hiding the slight weathered or what Mati could see as experienced glint in her eyes as they looked over the curvaceous Dreamer. Mati had her darkness, her past of pain and scars hidden on her arms, but she did not dwell on those things now and was more moved by the happiness that filled her thoughts then anything else.

Oh thank you. she replied, smiling as she gave over a few of the pieces of wood she was carrying. Her arms were grateful for the lighter burden. Yeah, its a pretty impressive place. Mati spoke casually, her eye looking at the building she had grown up briefly. She returned her gaze back to the tan hued woman as she started to introduce herself. I'm Mati Church. She gave, happier now that she had a clear name and reason for this woman to be here. Though Mati knew better then to judge a book by it's cover she thought that Nuki did not look like a creature that wished for the peace and stability that the Dreaming lands were known for. She simply looked like something else. But the Church fey would gladly give the newcomer the benefit of the doubt.

Well welcome Nuki, I was going to place this in the living room by the fireplace. Would you like to look inside? She heaved the firewood up slightly as she spoke of it.
