When was the last time you saw him?

It felt like it had been too long since she had visited the caves. An feeling similar to shyness and shame was present, but there would be no more excuses telling her off from visiting the clan’s Aquila. Face adorned with a pair of deep rubies glanced about as the slender female creature approached Kaena’s home and what once had been her son’s home as well. There was no trace of Itachi’s scent here any longer, and even if that was definitely a positive thing, the woman could not help but feel a bit sad. She often thought about things; things she could have done better when it came to her only son; the monster that would have taken the Lykoi Matriarch away had it not been for the Aquila’s observant nature.

The area seemed empty though. ”Grandmother?” The voice was soft and feminine, holding tones that was rare for the warrior woman that was well known for her ungraceful personality and hot tempered glare. Audits with copper fur soft as silk leaned gently against the woman’s dark auburn locks. The optime stepped closer to the cave’s entrance, fingers stroking against the soft fabric of the cloth she always wore over the shorts. Well, perhaps another time then. Part of the female was relieved, for she had yet to confront Kaena properly after that horrible incident.

Makhesthai awoke to a soft feminine sounding voice gracing his ears, he shook his head groggily, his one over-sized ear flapping against his head. The young pup looked around himself, momentarily forgetting where he was, a horror coming over him as he remembered waking up in his mother's den to the daily abuse and torture, but then his mind snapped into reality and he saw things that reminded him he was definitely not in his mother's den, small tidbits to his life.

He pulled himself to his paws, a small sigh leaving his orangey maw. He exited the den only to stop and stare, the female before him was very pretty, in different shades of coppery hues with an interesting necklace adorning her neck. His eyes caught the red of the Lykoi star upon her breast and he tilted his head to the side, the one ear cocking interestedly. The lykoi star echoed the red of her eyes that reminded him of blood and dieing sunsets over the mountains. He did nothing more that stare cautiously for several seconds before speaking,

"Hello? Are you looking for Moma Kae?" His blue eyes gazed up at her. From his perspective down on the floor, like Moma Kae she was very very tall, she looked very much like a saint or some other deity with a nimbus of light behind her, his tail wagged a little, he was always glad to meet new people.

But ah, the cave was not empty after all. Curios red watched the smaller canine appear from the dark depths of Kaena’s home, and her brows slowly rose as she watched this unfamiliar child approach. Fingers rose to brush away strands of hair, and open curiosity quickly turned into a less friendly glare as eyes roamed the boy’s features. A grimace was ready to jump into action as she took notice of the male’s missing ear, but she managed to keep it off her face. Moma Kae?

Who did this child think he was? Kaena was a maternal creature, Halo was well aware of it, but it made her reluctant to visit. Although the warrior Princess had given life to a son, she did not like young wolves any better than she had. She had been a terrible mother and had little affection for the younger clan members. She would protect them as any other member if a threat rose, but they would receive no special treatment from her.

”Kaena is not your moma,” the adult corrected the youngling, lifting a finger to visually bold this fact. ”Do you know where she is?” the beautiful woman then asked, crossing her arms across her chest as she maintained her deep ruby stare.

Maki watched as the expression on the female's changed for the worst. She was not happy with him here? Maybe Kaena was her mommy as well and she didn't want to share. Makhesthai didn't know and he wasn't about to voice these thoughts to the crimson eyed female, he did not know if she would turn violent like his biological mother often would do at the slighted provocation. He nodded his head accepting of what she told him, if she didn't want him to call Kaena moma then he would not in her presence, he was trying his best to get on with the tall femme and it reflected in his stance and attitude,

"Okay. Kaena says I am 'dopted? She names me Makhesthai Lykoi." The little pup nodded his head serenely. His few months spent with his mother had taught him that he was nothing special and that violence and pain were the norm, the idea that adults would treat pups specially was completely foreign to him, that Kaena played with him and taught him things was just because she was nice and a good person, although that did not mean that people who didn't play with him were not also nice but that they did not have the time, he adopted his voice to copy the grown up tone that Kae sometime projected, trying to make his voice sound less puppyish,

"Kaena said that she was going to find some food and that she would be back in a little while. She said that I was to stay here and tell anyone who came by that she would be back soon so they could wait for her if they had the time." He repeated what Kaena had told him before she had left. A flash of light caught his attention and his eyes were drawn to the Katana upon her person, it was very pretty and extremely deadly looking. He looked back at her face, noting the look on her face, maybe she didn't like puppies so little as he was but he shrugged mentally, he couldn't help his small size and scrawny look, although he had bulked out some since Kaena had found him at the edge of Inferni.

Her hard features did not lighten despite the body language and tone the boy tried with her. The warrior had made her mind up about children, and it required more than a set of sad, sensitive puppy eyes to move her. Large coyote ears swivelled forward at his words. Perhaps it was true that Kaena had adopted him, but it did not make this boy family. His blood was not of the royal blue, and it annoyed her that she had seemingly granted this bastard child the name freely.

Halo knew nothing of his blood, but an adopted child was a bastard child. Makhesthai, maybe, but he had no right to carry that surname. ”You’re not a Lykoi,” she sneered, her tone directly unkind now. Halo felt the childish urge to stomp about a bit and spit out names, but she had to admit that she was not as young any longer. It would be beneath her dignity. The boy was younger than Itachi.

Slender fingers rose to rest against the chaos star branded beneath her collarbone. It still hurt to know that the boy had betrayed his own blood, and it hurt to know that the Centurion had brought a stranger child close to her heart instead. Damn that child standing before her. Halo could easily make everything his fault. ”Why did she adopt you?” the Triarii found herself asking; wanting to know more about this boy so that her dislike could receive more nutrition and depth.

The tall female continued to stare at him in a vaguely similar manner to what his mother had looked at him with and surprisingly Maki found himself no longer caring really, he had tried to get along with this woman, had had been polite and respectful and she was being...well being a child. She was being more a child then he was and he was only young and little. Of course he again did not voice his opinion nor did it show on his face, he did not have the strength required to back up his words. He continued to look at her in his unprovocative way. Every now and again his torn ear would flick to investigate a sound.

His gaze remained apathetic as she denounced his right to the last name that Kaena had given him, he shrugged. The words of this woman did not bother her for that is all they were..words. His mother had spewed worse bile at him and she ripped and tore and pulled and pushed, words did not hurt but teeth did. He cocked his head to the side, if this woman was so angry about him having this name then she should at least know why he had been given it,

"Kaena says it is so people will know that Makhesthai belongs to her. He looked down at his paws for a second, and saw her paws as well, they looked so similar but apart from the color, his was more reddy and less coppery than hers were. Hers also had sharp, sharp claws that gleamed while his were small and would most likely do no damage at all to anyone.

"Why did she adopt you?" Now his blue eyes hardened and deep down within them a small spark of madness was cohered into existence. His face remained the same as it was and his voice was as normal as though he were discussing the weather but his eyes were not the eyes of a 4 month old puppy, hatred and anger swelled within them poisonous and black. He looked up at the childish insulting woman, although being careful not to look directly into her eyes and spoke to answer her damning questions,

"I am here because my moma did this to me." He gesture to the stump of his missing ear and the torn skin of the remaining one with a small paw, "Because she bites and scratches and despises me. Because she murdered my brothers and sister" He was using his mothers own words to describe why he was here to the coppery child woman.

"Kaena adopts me because...well I don't know..maybe because she cares? Maybe." He shrugged again, whatever this woman would say would mean nothing to him. Kaenea had found him, she had named him and give him a home, this woman could not take that away from him, no matter how many child words she said at him or how nastily she looked down at him. He looked at the tall femme, she could do her worst to him, it was most likely nothing that he hadn't received before probably less.

Halo had said nothing when the Centurion had owned her own slave. Servants of varying kinds did not disturb the female warrior, but this boy would remain a thorn in her side because he was a lie. There was few things the copper hued female treasured more than her precious blue blood. She was a princess here, and royals did not mingle with simple peasants in such a way. Nostrils flared slightly as she inhaled his scent; one that did not righteously belong here. But Kaena was too soft on this area. She could not turn away from children. Halo said nothing, but she thought that it made the Centurion weak. She did not appreciate weaknesses.

And even if the boy was officially adopted by the sub-leader of Inferni, he could not get away with bad behaviour. Rubies watched his blue eyes harden. She recognized the emotions swirling within the colours. Lids hooded deep crimson eyes slightly as the boy started to explain. ”Life is hard. Deal with it,” she spoke, brushing her silky locks back from her face, allowing fingers to linger near her neck. How was it like to know that he was maimed for life? Who would ever want a male with one ear? Thoughts touched Silas and the lines that Hybrid had drawn into his flesh, but the two could never be compared.

The woman treated the child’s words as they sounded in her head. A soft metallic breath was drawn as her twin sword freed itself from the darkness of its sheath. It made an elegant turn in the air and ceased right before the boy’s face and the hand that wielded it knew how to use it. ”You need to learn how to behave...” The strange softness was back in her voice, but it was cold and dangerous. Pupils shrunk into seas of red. How dared the boy speak and behave so freely; as if they were equals. How dared he openly look at her with his emotions vividly displayed. Halo would have punished the boy as well.

Makhesthai saw on the woman's face where her thoughts were taking her, that he was angry at her for asking questions? No. He was angry at his mother for making this question relevant to ask but the female did not know that and before he had a chance to say otherwise the pretty but dangerous femme had reached up over her shoulder and then the sword was swinging towards him with deadly precision. He could not help but admire the beauty of the blade and the grace of its wielder as it came closer to him, he wondered vaguely if this female would ever consent to teach him how to use them like that.

He did not move, he did not cower or beg or anything one would expect from a normal puppy. He knew that to do any of these things generally made whatever was to come worse than it would have been originally, he would wait for the female to deal out what punishment she saw fit to correct the supposed injustice he had projected onto her person. He flinched a little and closed one of his eyes, as the blade moved closer, waiting for it to slice into his skin as was his punishment.

He waited but the pain didn't come, he opened his eye and dared to peek a glance at the female and saw she still looked angry, "You need to learn how to behave..." He lowered his one remaining ear and his head down and nodded at her words,

"Yes Ma'am, i'm sorry Ma'am." He still did not care what she thought of him, but she was an older and higher ranking member of the clan and he would show her the respect she was due by her right, his mother had taught him that much at least even if it was through daily beatings.

She could be cruel. She did try to amend her ways, for there was a certain someone she wished to improve for. The boy flinched and shut his eyes. It was a response she was pleased with, though she had expected more. Hardened from a harsh start on life, she supposed. But she was content with what she had received from him now, and as his apology rose from his submitting form, she drew the sword away and cocked her head as if intrigued. Silky audits swivelled in a less forced manner, crimson again investigating the spot where his missing ear should have been. How was it that she could find no sympathy for him? It was not him in general; she just wasn’t a compassionate creature, she supposed.

”All right,” she purred, softness continued with less potion corrupting it. The woman returned the sword to the sheath attached to her back and turned slightly from him, though her stare remained. ”So, Makhesthai..” She was.. or, had been a mother. Speaking to a child should not be so hard. ”How old are you?” He looked quite the runt, as her son had been before he was taken into the care of someone that knew how to raise a child. Strange how he had become a monster regardless. Certainly he took after his unknown father in many ways.

Maki looked up at the woman's general form, filing away this experience so that he would remember how to act around this woman for the remainder of their time together this day and for future interactions with the femme. His eyes flicked as a slight wind caressed his face and he watched with unrestrained awe as the blade moved swiftly through the air away from him before returning to her paws in front of him. His torn ear perked up slightly, unknowingly giving her a better view of the damage to it although it still remained lowered at her voice,

"Alright."

The sharp and dangerous edge had lessened some though it was still present in tones but the lessening was somewhat reassuring to the pup. When his mother had been on the rampage she had never been able to keep the anger and hatred from her spoken words. The sounds of the sword being returned to its sheath drew his gaze fractionally to her shoulder before it flicked away from her person. As much as Makhesthai was coyote he was also part dog and dogs, descended from wolves still felt the pull to submit heavily in the manner of wolves. He felt this pull and ignored it, for something told him that such a display upon these grounds he walked and almost especially to this woman would draw a negative reaction of a sort that put her moments ago completed angry threat to utter shame.

His tail curled around to hug his paws, the tip of it twitching nervously every now and again. The pup wanted to ask a question of the femme and it showed on his face for a brief second, it was quickly wiped off when the woman began to speak and a cautious inquisitive look was placed upon it instead.

So Makhesthai....how old are you?"

The pup contemplated the question, counting back the days and remembering what Cain has said to him. He opened his mouth but did not speak for several seconds, wanting his calculations to be right.

"I think I am three and a half months old. I was two months old when Cain took Makhesthai from Moma." The small pup nodded his head, he was pretty sure that the answer was correct. His eyes peered up at the femme's form, careful not to catch those crimson orbs with his sapphire ones as he waited anxiously for her reaction.

She could scold him in her mind for thinking instead of knowing, but she had to ask herself if it really mattered. It didn’t. Three and a half months was not much, and he included his age when he had been taken away from his violent mother. The boy was fortunate in the adult’s eyes, for his extreme youth would help fade out the unpleasant memories as he grew up. Halo did not have this opportunity; was forced to continue to live with the hurt and feel the scar tissue within.

Blushing sunsets could see the question that wanted to spring from the boy’s lips, but if he could not find the courage to get it out, it was not worth hearing. ”Who is Cain?” The woman then asked, body and gaze turning from him. Fingers played with the golden dragon bracelet with ruby eyes given to her by someone very special. Perhaps it was a stance she had adopted to suggest that the boy’s words could not cure any boredom she might be suffering. There was no reason to fool him into thinking she was genuinely interested in all of this.

Was she as horrible as this moma had been? Halo knew well how ugly her personality was, but she believed she possessed both honor and morale. Inferni continued to mean everything to her, and never had this changed. Never would this change.

FGEGHTH fail post
WC: 327 3 points

Another question was asked of him and he was happy that she was asking more questions instead of being angry about his answers, which were something he couldn't help if they were questions about himself and his life so far. She turned her body away from him and recognized that she wasn't really interested in the answer but was asking more for the sake of having something to do and say. His eyes fell to the bracelet she tinkered with and guessed from the way she fingered it reverently that it was gifted to her by someone important. His Moma had often done the same with a skull she had, it was the only time they had ever been truly safe from her anger when she was stroking the bleached white bone with great respect. He never knew who it had belonged to and nor did he ever want to know.

He opened his mouth to reply to her question "Cain is Moma's brother." He did not elaborate any more than that because she did not ask for more than that. He had worked out that the skinny chocolate jack-dog who had rescued him was not his daddy as originally thought but his uncle, when Kaena had explained certain words to him he had finally understood the snarled conversation Cain had had with his sister regarding the one half dead pup that remained of her litter.

Makhesthai finally worked up the courage to ask the question that he had failed to earlier, making sure to keep his stance lowered so as not to seem as though he was demanding an answer from her, she could decline to answer if she wished.

"Your blade is very pretty, did you get it as a present? If he could direct attention onto herself rather than why he was here then maybe the older female would be more agreeable and less angry although he suspected that this was a base part of her personality.

No acknowledge was given at his answer. These were useless names, for that part of the boy’s story was over now. This Moma would never again get to hurt her little boy, for he was a member of this clan. Oh, the woman would be invited to try, of course, but Halo knew exactly what kind of greeting she would receive. A smile almost appeared on the woman’s lips as she let her thoughts wander and create images rich with crimson. The warrior had yet to learn how the boy actually had ended up here, but it was not something she burned to know. There would be time to ask questions later if he proved worthy to be a part of Inferni. Halo adored her leaders, but not everyone taken in under the clan’s wings deserved to be. Whether this boy had the right to be here was yet to be known. But he was not a Lykoi. Only blood could make him one of them.

Ruby depths turned to the boy as he expressed interest in the blade she adored. But the compliment was shadowed by the question that ended his sentence. ”Sort of,” she replied, making certain that he did not see the flinch of agony within. Those swords had come with a terrible price. No option had been offered her back then, but things could have turned out differently if she hadn’t been a young fool in love with herself. ”The man that helped me get it is dead,” she added, grateful that it was all in the past. The Lykoi princess was much stronger now, and did no longer have to shed tears when travelling through dreadful memories.

She hesitated for only a moment before drawing the sword a second time, but the tip of the sword was not pointed in his direction now. She let the beautiful murder weapon rest calmly in her palms, one supporting the handle and the other the flat blade. Many months had passed since she last had cut herself on the sharp edges. They were one, she and the cold piece of metal. It was pretty on distance, but if one was to investigate it close up, the blade was a true beauty, hand carved by humans that had died so long ago. The handle was subtly graced with eastern dragons in combat, carved black on black under the textile wrapped around it to make it more comfortable to wield. Did this boy recognize perfection when he saw it?

sorry for the wait ><

The young pup wondered what thoughts were crossing her mind that made her smile that way, he shrugged internally most likely it was whoever had given her the bracelet to make her smile like that. Maki shifted as he waited for her answer as she appeared to be lost in her thoughts, resettling his paws back into the snow and again hugging his tail around. He looked at the woman slyly while appearing to be interested at something to her right, he did not like this woman at first but there was something about her that he liked and he couldn't figure out what it was.

His attention was pulled back to the woman as she began to speak again, his good ear flicking forwards and then back. He listened as she spoke.

'Sort of... The man that helped me get it is dead...' He nodded, death was something he understood, everyone had to die although sometimes before it was their natural time. He would die in time same as the man that had helped her get the sword, so would the femme before him and everyone in Inferni and everywhere else but they would be replaced by the ones that came after them, he was only young but already he knew that their children were the future.

The sound of the sword being pulled from its sheath startled him slightly since he hadn't been expecting it. He moved closer to get a better look at the beautiful and deadly weapon. The ornately carved handle and the way it curved into the deadly blade sent chills down his spine and he muttered a word that he had heard his Moma speak when she was impressed looking at the sword reverently,

"Es Magnifico.. "

He looked up at the female for a split second and again asked a question of her,

"Do you think.. in the future when i am bigger. That you could show me how you use them? If it is not too much trouble Ma'am, they just look so amazing... He didn't think she would agree to it so he didn't get his hopes up but if she said yes then it would be a very interesting lesson.

Death was a most natural part of the world. But it was the story leading to the end that was what horrified the living. The woman was a cruel creature that had killed before, often without a touch of sympathy. She had put the gun to her ivory sister’s head and pulled the trigger without flinching. The wolfess had treated her with kindness she had met nowhere else before Silas, yet she had been the enemy and Halo had made a final choice. Perhaps the world was not as black and white as she saw it, but this was a life she was devoted to nevertheless. Royal blue ran through fiery veins, and she was the warrior princess that continued to chase her dreams even if she knew that the taste would not be as sweet as she had imagined it to be.

The loner would have lived, but Samael had not permitted that. It was the way he had died that had stained her soul. She would never be clean, but scars faded. They would never be forgotten, but they did not ache as much as they once had. Ears perked at the alien words that slithered out between his lips. Her philosophy was that if you possessed a language no one understood, there was no reason to use it. Yet she held her tongue brushed it off with a relatively rare smile. The boy had spoken in awe, and Halo could not scold a boy that looked at her most priced item with adoration in his eyes. She knew that there was close to no chance that the boy would realize just how well made and kept her blade was, but he was too young to be supposed to know anything, she guessed.

The request was not expected, but she would not snap her jaws at him and stomp his form into the ground. There had been others that had expressed interest in the art of war and wished to specialize in swords, but she had yet to see one remain. Inferni took in so many traitors. Those who revealed their true colours and abandoned the clan were not likely to receive forgiveness from this woman. Makhesthai had yet to commit any crime, and if the boy had the required discipline and capability to learn the dance of the sword, then she would help him capture this dream. ”Perhaps,” she said, withdrawing her sword again. He had seen enough. ”If you will train to become a hydra, I could maybe consider taking you as my apprentice.” But there were so few worthy to train together with her… Neither of them should get their hopes up just yet.

”I wont take just anyone, you know” she ensured him, though was not about to strike out his name on her list of possible apprentices in the future. He knew how life could be, and she hoped there were amounts of rage caged inside him that could be released on the clan’s enemies. ”Would you like to be a warrior when you grow up?” She could just turn around and go any time, but perhaps she was bound by curiosity now.

His gaze still on the magnificent sword that she held, the young scarred pup did not see Halo's smile, the symmetry and pure beauty of it had him transfixed and he felt as though it was calling to him, begging him to reach out and touch its beauty. Of course he would never seek to enrage the woman that held it by brazenly touching her property without her express permission. When she didn't immediately tell him no or stomp him into the ground for daring to ask her something he felt a glimmer of something he had almost never felt before; hope.

'Perhaps Now the sword was pulled away from him and replaced back into its protective sheath by the dangerous femme and he almost wanted to protest against it being hidden away, something that extraordinary should be shown off to everyone but he held his tongue and his thoughts and gave the sword one last wistful look before listening with rapt attention to the woman, suddenly realizing she had not introduced herself.

Her words made him straighten his back and lift his ears and much as he could as he looked up at the female, the not looking directly into her eyes was almost built in to him now just during their time together and so it was automatic to him. His eyes hovered about her neck and jawline occasionally flitting up to catch her expression.

”I wont take just anyone, you know” He nodded his head vigorously at her words, his one over sized ear flapping about his head. Then came her question and he felt as though his decision here would alter her perception of him for either worse or better,

”Would you like to be a warrior when you grow up?

"Nothing would honor me more, Ma'am" He meant his words and it showed in the conviction in his voice, serving Inferni as its protector would be... He shivered internally, this was where his life would lead him, of that her was certain.

The woman’s mood could so quickly have gone down the drain, but instead she thought she had gotten something out of this encounter after all. Kaena was who she had wished to interact with, but there were no pressing matters that she had to bring up, so the Triiari could afford wasting another day seeking out the clan’s Centurion. Perhaps she could question the matriarch about this strange child that she had adopted. Halo did not like these kinds of surprises, but it could be so much worse. The last child that Kaena had taken in had attempted to murder her.

Christ, she could learn to like this child. But he was too young to be of use just yet. The exotic looking woman turned slightly, turning her frame away from the child after hearing the words she had wished to hear. Nothing would honour him more, true. It was a little too early to clearly determine the boy’s path. She would not get up her hopes for him, but the possibilities she could think of were pleasant. ”Good boy,” she breathed, smile still present on her face as she considered herself done with this scene.

”You can tell Kaena that Halo stopped by,” she added after a moment of hesitation. These would be her parting words, and she picked up her pace, turning her back to the promising specimen and stepping out of the cave. The sword rested comfortably against her back, reminding her of its subtle song. It deserved to taste blood and flesh again, but when would that be?
