pack hunt! takes place in the morning. all welcome, no post order! wc: 423

Thick, winter fur helped Skye maintain her body heat. Today, thankfully, wasn't as cold as some others - after the storm, the weather had only gotten warmer, and today was cold, but not as cold as it could be. The forest knew it, too - the singing of birds and the clicking and chattering of squirrels filled her ears as she sat up in her bed, stretching out and throwing the sheets off of her. Already, the new day brought excitement to Skye - she felt the urge to do something, but she couldn't exactly pinpoint it.

She thrust her muzzle out the broken window by her bed - she hadn't gotten around to fixing it yet - and felt the chilly wind sting her nose slightly. She shivered, but opened her eyes and concentrated all of her senses on the outdoors. There, at the very edge of her consciousness, but still there, was sort of... a buzzing, or a tingling sensation. Tuning her nose and ears further and closing her eyes, she found what the feeling was; the scent of a herd of caribou was in the air. It was faint - it was probably a few miles away - but it was definitely there.

Excited, Skye ran out of her door without putting on clothes; if she was going to call the pack to go hunting, she'd need speed, and she needed her swift, slim Lupus form for that. She trotted to the middle of the Thornbury street and closed her eyes, concentrating on the shift. Her muzzle began to shorten, and her long hair shrank until it was simply creamy fur on the top of her head. She knelt down on the floor so that she wouldn't fall when her legs rounded their knees and lengthened the foot, which it did shortly. Her from limbs shortened drastically, and became the same length as her once-longer legs. Her taller body had shortened, but this Lupus form was quite slim and wiry - not built for power, but for speed and stamina.

Just like Shawchert had done the first time he had called the pack to a meeting, Skye lifted her muzzle to the air and opened her jaws, letting out a howl - it was loud enough for members in the vicinity to hear her, but not loud enough to scare the herd that was lingering just barely inside of her senses. She then stood, as a wolf, in the middle of the town, waiting for her pack to come and begin the hunt.

OOC: Big Grin

Slade's morning started out just like any morning did: before dawn. He lacked the den or house that most other canines had, and thus the sunlight had started waking him up a long time ago. At this point, he was used to it, and often he would simply wake up before there was a hint of sunlight. And then he would walk around for a bit, without any particular destination; it got rather lonely at times, and this was why he had decided to start heading for Thornbury. He was a more introverted type, yes, but he needed some form of socialization every now and then.

The mornings were still chilly, though compared to the snowstorm it almost seemed to be verging on hot. Slade loved it. During the winter he had no cozy place to rest in, and while he got used to the bleakness it felt so nice when sunlight dappled his fur. Unfortunately for Slade, this was apparently not one of those mornings, as a chilly wind blew through the air. He had managed to take his mind off of it for a little while by wondering what his father would have done for warmth.

His thoughts were interrupted all too soon by a growling stomach. Slade typically wasn't hungry as soon as he woke up, and this usually meant putting it off until the sun was already up. No surprise there. He thought that he might try to grab a mouse or two when he got interrupted again, this time by a howl. Instantly Slade tensed. The last time he had heard a howl summoning others, there was not a good reason for it. He remembered Shawchert howling like there was no tomorrow, trying to get everyone safe inside Sky's house during that snowstorm. There was something different about this howl, though; it had no sense of urgency. There was nothing wrong.

Slightly confused, Slade began walking towards the source of the sound, and found himself going north towards Thornbury. When he arrived, he saw a small cream-colored wolf; he didn't recognize her, as he had only really seen her briefly during the storm, and that was when she was in Optime form. But since she was issuing the call, he guessed that she must have been Skye Collins, the second leader of Cercatori d'Arte.

Slade sat down before her, glancing around. He was the first one to arrive. Suddenly feeling very self-conscious, he couldn't help but crouch back slightly, though his ears remained pricked and alert. There was obviously nothing wrong; why had he been called?

It wasn't long before she saw Slade, one of the members of the pack. He wasn't new, and she had seen him around a couple of times; word had it that he was a writer, like herself. The tan coyote was in his Lupus form, although Skye didn't think he was a Luperci. Glad that he had answered her call so quickly - she didn't usually call the pack, but today she had - and standing from her sitting position, she padded over to the coyote.

"Good morning, Slade," she said politely. She noticed that although his large, cupped ears were pricked, he was slightly bent over, an curious and slightly troubled look on his face. "Don't worry, nothing's wrong - but scent that?" She allowed him a moment to sniff the air around them; the caribou smell was like a tingling in the back of her nose, but it was certainly there; she was sure that the coyote would be able to smell the prey from here. "It's our first big prey herd in months - if I can round up enough of the pack to take down a few, it'd feed the entire pack!"

She glanced around; she knew that she wasn't as authoritative as Shawchert was, but she was confident that more of the pack would come than this; if she had scented the caribou, no matter how far away, it should only be a matter of time before the rest of them did, as well. This was a special day; it'd be the first hunt they would have had together as a pack, and she was excited to see how it played out.

Sankara

Word Count→000 :: OOC

After her meeting with Krystalle, Sankara had worked even more to finish her hut. And it was worth it, because within two days of working most of the day, the hut was finished. Sankara was proud of her work. The logs were placed correctly now, and they were tied with pieces of cloth or old ropes. But it was solid enough to stand on it's place, so Sankara didn't have to wake up with a log on top of her body.

That morning, the woman had woken up and came out of the hut. She was in the mood to take a walk, so she headed towards the lake beside which she had built her home. The pristine waters waved softly as the sun appeared in the horizon. Suddenly her thoughts were interrupted by a temptating smell. Caribous. Sankara walked towards their direction, but as she lost the lake of sight, a howl was heard from Thornsbury. The last time that she had heard a howl like that was when Shawchert gathered the pack. But this was only one howl, unlike the day of the snowstorm, in which Shawchert's howls had been repeated. This one was not only single, but it belonged to another wolf.

Sankara headed to the source of the howl anyways. She ran towards the source of it, Thornsbury. As she reached the borders of the town, she noticed that she had not been the only one. She could see a cream colored wolfess. She supposed that she had to be Skye Collins. She didn't know any other wolf with a creamy pelt like hers. And beside her was...Slade? It seemed that in any situation they always ended up in the same place.

Sankara stopped some meters away from the place where the other two canines were standing. Slade looked a bit intimidated, and Sankara wondered why. There was no danger, and Thornsbury was like the safest place of Cercatori d' Arte. Sankara heard how Skye greeted and informed Slade about the situation. They were going to hunt. Of course, if the entire pack showed up. When the cream-colored wolfess glanced around, Sankara took her entrance and approached them. "Good morning Skye!" then she turned towards the coyote male "Hi Slade!". The female's mood rose evn more as she sat domn on her spot and waited for the leader to give her instructions. She hadn't hunt something as big as a caribou in a long time...and she wondered how would it be to do it as a pack. She had never hunted in a group, not even before arriving to 'Souls. This promised to be an interesting experince.

OOC: Oh, Cercatori d'Arte, where are you?
WC: 310

Skye had read Slade's mind perfectly. He supposed that he had made it blatantly obvious that he was concerned, and was thankful for the reassurance that nothing was wrong. After the order was given, he tilted his nose to the air and took in a deep sniff. The smell of caribou was in the air, something it took him a moment to recognize as it wasn't overly familiar to him. He was used to hunting mice, squirrels, and other rodents that weren't nearly this big or dangerous. He tried to shove the thought of a small, trampled coyote pelt lying on a hoof-printed ground, and hoping that he wouldn't be so skittish on the upcoming hunt Skye had described.

He hardly noticed the entrance of another packmate, and he jumped at her voice. He recognized the scent a moment before he saw Sankara enter the scene, who he greeted with a small nod. "Morning, Sankara." He just hoped that they were on good terms; the last time he had seen her it was during the snowstorm in Mars's house, where he had given her an apology for his actions when they had met. He was going to take the liberty of assuming that she wasn't still holding a grudge, if she ever had in the first place.

Slade turned quickly to look into the forest. There was still no sign of... anybody. There was no way that three canines could take down a caribou alone, especially with a very inexperienced coyote in the crowd. He might not turn out to be such a liability in the hunt if there were others there to support each other. He would probably end up fading into the crowd, maybe managing to get in a bite here and there, but otherwise being the inexperienced caribou hunter he was he wouldn't get much else done.
