To live my life as it's meant to be

Kind of a slow, boring start, hope it's okay though ^^

Ever since he and Princess had moved the pups back to their house after the snowstorm had subsided the Knight had been unwilling to take them out into the elements again. There was nothing that scared the new father more than the idea of some ill befalling his young pups. They were growing though and sometimes they would need to accompany their parents out places. A thought had struck him then; perhaps Strelein would be able to make some warm pouches or something that would allow him and Princess to carry the pups around with fewer worries. So Haven had taken Linden and bundled his son up in a warm blanket, holding him close to his chest as he road out to the Chien Hotel to speak with the pack's tailor. He thought it would help Strel if he could see the size of one of their pups and Linden was larger than his sisters and so the Aatte felt him better to weather the cold trek.

Leaving Drogon outside he had gone to consult the Rosnete man and then had walked back out to the main room of the hotel where the fire blazed. Haven was eager to return home, but perhaps it would be good for both him and Linden to warm up by the fire before they headed back out into the element. The Knight sat down by the fire and unwrapped his dark orange son from the folds of the blanket. Linden stood up on overlarge paws and looked up to his father, giving a happy yip. The Knight smiled broadly, marveling at how much the boy had grown already at just over a month old. Large hands picked his son up and brought their two faces close together. "You going to grow up big and strong like me, Linden?" he asked softly. A lick to his nose from a small tongue was his response and the man chuckled and held the young wolf close to his chest. He had never known he could love so much.

She had returned to the Chien Hotel a while ago now, at the reassurance of the King that her role as pack Apothecary still stood, regardless of the three young lives she now supported. Thankfully, there had been little in way of crisis since the snowstorm, and not many packmembers had required her services as healer. This had left the woman with plenty of time to care for her pups, who by now were nearing the one-month benchmark, and had begun to develop their own little personalities.

Sometimes, she senses that her pups were not healthy - in mind, rather than body, for each was fed as if they were King Vigilante himself. No, it was something about the blood in them, about the way their little mentalities had begun to work, that sometimes made Alaine uneasy. That, and she was constantly aware that other pack members may not approve of their father. She had begged Vigilante to secrecy on this matter, for the desperate mother did not want her bastard children to be labelled unfairly.

For the time being, as she was not required, Alaine lurked about the Chien Hotel. Her two blood-children were sleeping, but the daughter she had adopted was constantly at her side, seemingly terrified that Alaine would desert her if she left her vision for but a moment. The Apothecary did not blame Odette, for undoubtedly that was what her real mother had done. As such, she let the almost two-month-old pup trail behind her constantly, amused and adoring of the girl's affectionate nature.

It was on one such day that, having headed down the stairs and into the main room where a fire offered delightful warmth to any weary wayfarers that chose to settle in the deep armchairs or on the warmed floor, Alaine was met by an unexpected but familiar face. "Haven?" A slow smile spread about the exotic woman's maw, as her accented voice rose again, "Oh, Haven, how good it is to see you!" She stepped closer to the crackling fire and moved to sit across from the handsome orange male, her ivory foster-daughter following shyly and hiding behind her mother's Optime frame.

Rambleeee

When the prospect of fatherhood had first come to his mind when his mother had asked him about the chances of her becoming a grandmother, Haven had been nervous. There weren't many things that scared the Knight of the Court any longer, but the ever present shadow his sire cast was always threatening to burst from the background and wreak havoc on his mindset. He had only ever seen the hybrid that was his father once as a young boy and the encounter had been unsettling and tense to say the least. His sister had been scared and he had been cautious and untrusting. Something had not seemed right about the man and when he was on the cusp of adulthood he had found out that his instincts on the matter had been spot on. His sire was a rapist, and a murderer. The legacy of Conri Church had haunted the Aatte boy for some months before he escaped back into the light. At the thought of becoming a father himself though, they had crept back up.

After reassuring words from his sister he had decided to try and move past his fear and those worries were completely vanished now that his children had arrived. Haven could never hurt them, he knew this just as he knew Cour des Miracles was where he was meant to be. The three pups had come to encompass his whole existence and he could not wait to watch and help them grow. They would be raised by two loving, good parents in a strong pack. The blood of Tokyo Chance and Conri Church would not taint these babes, just as in the end it had not tainted their parents. Haven and Princess' fear of becoming like their parents would be their best defense against doing so, as long as they did not let it cripple them. Haven would not let it, and he knew that his mate would not either.

The Seneschal was lost in the small private moment with his son when an accented feminine voice spoke his name. Jades turned to the willowy form of the pack's Apothecary and a large, friendly smile immediately stretched across his maw. "Alaine! It's good to see you too! It's been too long." Indeed, he could not clearly recall the last time that he had really been able to chat with the woman. He had always liked Alaine and indeed he likely owed his life to her skills after his fight with the pale loner.

As she sat down on the floor across from him he espied the pale pup who was easily a month older than his children. Linden saw her too, and squirmed eagerly in his father's arms to get loose. Haven chuckled and set his son down on the ground. "As you can see, I am a new father. This is my son, Linden," he said beaming her. "It seems you have one of your own though. I wasn't aware you had been expecting, congratulations!" The burnt orange boy with the ivory accents bounded awkwardly towards the older pup and barked at her cheerily, his stubby tail waving. The girl seemed quite shy though and Haven doubted that Linden would get the playfellow he desired.

It was good to see the chivalrous knight again, and in such good health, too. The Apothecary had known him for a while now, but some of the instances in which they had met had been less than favourable. "I see you are looking well, Sir Aatte," She was glad to see that her healing methods had stitched him up well after that nasty fight, though, and the livid orange and ivory man looked no worse for wear as he sat on the floor with a pup that was undoubtedly his son.

Alaine had not been called to assist Princess' birthing, although this was a good thing, for that meant it had gone smoothly enough. The well-known Apothecary smiled benevolently at the little fellow who wriggled in his father's arms, for he too looked healthy. "Linden. How handsome you are, beag céanna!" She laughed softly as the small male pup barked at Odette, who immediately took fright and hide behind Alaine's seated figure. With a gentle coo to sooth her adopted daughter, the healer picked her delicate ivory form up and placed her closer to the excitable boy, watching as Odette sniffed daintily at him.

Her attention turned to the knight as he spoke, a slow and lovely smile warming the colliewoman's pixie maw. "Odette is mine, but not by blood," The woman explained tenderly, her emerald eyes glancing lovingly to the shy girl. She had adopted Odette just after birthing her own pups, which were much closer in age to Haven's. "My own two, who are just about as old as your Linden, are sleeping up in my room," Alaine explained. Her eyes became suddenly wary, although the smile remained on her maw. It was common knowledge that the healer had not taken a mate - thus far, the father of the two children sleeping in her chamber was still unknown to the packmembers of Cour des Miracles. She wondered if Haven would think lowly of her for having children with someone who was not her mate.

Sorry for the wait!

There was a lot of mystery about the collie-woman, and he surely what he knew of her was miniscule compared to what he did not know. None of that mattered much to him though, for Alaine was a nice and pleasant woman. He enjoyed her company when he was gifted with it, and that was all the Knight needed to know. "I am feeling quite well, that is certain. You look good too." Perhaps there was some tiredness around her green eyes, but that was to be expected in all new parents. Haven would not be surprised if the same malady could be detected in himself as well. Surely he saw it in Princess, for the pregnancy had taken a bit out of her, but she was happy nonetheless. Her ghosts finally seemed to be leaving her alone.

Haven likely would have come to Alaine about the birthing if another option hadn't presented itself to the mated couple. His sister's mate was the healer in his old pack, and Mati had offered the woman's services. Cambria and Princess knew each other and his mate had liked the idea of the Dreamer coming to help in the birth. It had all gone just as it should have though, and they likely could have gotten on just find without a midwife. It was really the piece of mind that they had needed. The ivory girl hid behind Alaine at Linden's bark, but the slender Apothecary delicately picked the pup up and placed her down near Linden. The boy was not used to shy pups, for neither of his sisters had that affliction. Still, Haven was surprised with how the boy's demeanor immediately adjusted itself as he did his best to stand still while the older pup sniffed at him.

It was a bit of a surprise to hear that the girl was adopted, but Haven's smile only grew larger at the news. "The ties of adoption can hold deeper and truer than blood. I'm closer to my adoptive mother than to either of my birth parents." Conri Church had never truly been a part of his life, aside from a demon that haunted his mind. In his youth he had been near to his birth mother, but after he reached adolescence that tie has begun to wither and was basically nothing now. "Perhaps we can arrange a playdate with them all sometime. I have two girls back at home as well." The Knight picked up on the subtle notes of wariness that Alaine was displaying, but there was no judgment that would come from him. He was well acquainted with non-traditional families, being a part of one himself. Unbeknownst to him, the same man who had given Alaine her children was the sire of his own adopted brothers.

She relaxed in the company of the man, tired emerald eyes watching him with a fondness born from familiarity. Although the pair had not spent frequent time in each other's company, Alaine considered him a close member of her immediate pack family. The Aatte night was very likeable, with his generous smile and kind eyes. Fatherhood suited him, just as motherhood suited her.

For a long time, Alaine had thought herself incapable of being a mother again. Since Caillen had left, she had been resigned to the loneliness of her duties as pack Apothecary. Gabriel de le Poer had given her a miracle in the form of offspring - She did not know of the invisible ties between her beloved children and his halfbrothers, but would have worried little of it had she known. The Infernian King did not belong to her, and their relationship was a complex albeit continually fleeting one.

His words on adoption warmed her heart. "I am glad you feel that way, Haven," The colliewoman nodded her head in agreement, "Many see blood as the most important thing. But it is love that counts." She believed in this, firmly. Family was made by the heart, not by the blood. Those who considered otherwise seemed foolishly narcissistic to the healer.

His latter suggestion brightened her features. "That would be most wonderful," A latent thought occurred to her, and the Apothecary's face became somewhat more serious. "That reminds me. I must ask a favor of you and your lovely mate, Princess" As she spoke, her small white daughter finished sniffing the boy, and apparently appeased, rolled over onto her back. The mother's emerald eyes watched her warmly, although her voice remained politely serious. "Do you think, perhaps, that you wouldn't overly mind babysitting for me sometimes? What with my duty, I must spend more time that I would like away from the hotel, and it makes me nervous to think of them as being alone."

There was a fragility and also a strength that commingled within the collie woman. It reminded him somewhat of his beloved. Princess may seem small in her delicate figure, but there was a fire in her and woe be to the person that ever provoked its heat. Haven had learned early on to be cautious of his mate's moods and he suspected that the same could be true of Alaine, though perhaps in a different manner. He had never seen her be anything be completely pleasant and friendly but he could easily imagine she could be forceful if the occasion ever called for it. He would have to tell Princess that the Apothecary had new pups of her own. Perhaps the two could spend some time together and speak of motherhood. He felt it would be good for Princess to befriend a woman who had experience in the matter in whom she could confide.

The Knight was in complete agreement with Alaine's thinking on the matter of family. Even now such a trend continued in his life, for he was much more connected to the sons of Anu than he was to the brood that Naniko had birthed after his own litter. "Truer words are seldom spoken," he said with a smile. "One of my adoptive younger brothers actually just recently moved to the Court, Alder. He's a sweet young man, if a little shy and unsure of himself." He doubted that Alaine had crossed the masked male's path. If Alder wasn't at home, he was usually in the stables preferring the company of the horses to awkward social interactions.

"Maybe we can take them all down to the beaches when the weather is warmer." The beach was always a fun place, though it could be dangerous if little ones tread too close to the tide. Three sets of adult eyes would surely keep the pups in check though. At the mention of needing a favor, Haven's head tilted to the side in curiosity. As Odette rolled over, Linden playfully but gently batted at her upturned paws with his own, stubby tail wagging a steady rhythm. "Oh, that would be no problem at all! We can easily come here to keep an eye on them, and you'd be welcome to bring them to our own home as well." He was certain Princess would have no objections to the arrangement.
