Please don't feel obligated to write as much as I did. I tend to ramble. @_@ 500+

One life traded for another. Denali had died, while Artemis lived. It was a trade off none of them would have dreamed of asking for, not in a million years. But they were the ones left with the aftermath of Nuki's treachery. It all began with just a simple game of catch, and ended with nearly three young lives lost. Parker would have been one of many, had her mother not caught on to the cruel games the woman played with their family. What if it had been Silvano? Or Tony and his siblings? Better her than them, right? Being stuck in that hole, with an arrow aimed at her face and no where to run was the first moment in Parker's life where she had felt her mortality. And it tasted of blood, tears and regret.

But her mother, a omnipresent beacon of hope, had come to her rescue and pulled her out of what would have been her grave. She'd be ushered into the Mansion and placed near the fire with many blankets piled on her, while Cambria and Amata tended to her in a near panic. She'd been so cold, and the urge to reach out and grasp the flames almost overwhelming. The night was rough on her as she regained her strength once again, not three days after her ordeal at the Skip Caves. Worst than the first, for sure. The entire scene played over and over in her head, even as she slept. She could not get the image of those burning crimson eyes out of her head; they were not even cold, merely muted and emotionless. It was probably what frightened her the most.

A couple days had passed since then, and it was today that Parker gathered the courage to venture out of the dusty old building she'd sequestered herself into out of fear. The pain she felt at Denali's passing was dampened by Artemis' presence in the halls, and it gave Parker the strength to mourn properly instead of drown in grief over her murdered brother. Artemis, on the other hand, seemed to be suffering greatly from the loss. That was a driving force behind this sudden change of heart; she wanted to avoid this ever happening again. If she was able to familiarize herself with the entirety of the territory, then perhaps she would not be caught unawares. Furthermore, if she was able to make the trip to neighboring packs, she could forge something of a bond between them to drive the darker inhabitants, wanderers and vagrants away from the greater area.

That is, if she had the blessing of her mother.

For now, she was content with wandering the perimeter nearest the Manor. Cottontail Valley was the nearest border to the majority of their neighbors, bar AniWaya, and served to slake her curiosity well enough. The snows were quickly melting now, leaving tiny rivers that seemed to weave across the worn pathway like silver latticework. Her scarf was secured around her neck, while the remaining length of it was cast over her shoulders. In her hands was a small stone she'd recovered from a melting snowbank; a remarkable fragment of deep, rich blue. She had a mind to make it into a necklace when she returned to the Manor, but for now she contented herself with memorizing every inch of the border.

Selene had been keeping herself hidden away for the past bit or so. She hadn't been conversing much with anyone. She knew that she should but with some upsets in her life she simply couldn't find it in herself to show her face too often. Especially since she had gotten caught doing what she did. She had her rock stolen from her and she had gotten watched over. At least until she had gotten stuck in the snow. It had surprised her that others had come looking for her. That anyone had even been worried about her. That was a surprise in and of itself. And it hadn't been only family either. While her sister she had recently met came to save her so did the male that she had gotten accepted into the pack as well as some other male that she didn't know at all. But since then she had become something of a recluse again.

But not today, she forced herself out and away. She left behind Anathema. She had to prove herself. She had tried this before but had failed. But she was determined to do this. She would prove that she wasn't lazy. That she was useful after all. That she could do more than just lay around. She would prove her worth once and for all. She would make sure that her sister didn't regret her coming along. She just had to. After all Nani was an important part of her life. All of her family was. Sele was simply nothing without them.

She had started out with good intentions at least. Though by nightfall, and some distance away from the caves, she had stopped. Her dark thoughts had returned and she had no idea what she was doing. She didn't even know where she was going. This was all so stupid. Why was she doing this? She had found a sharp stone in the area that she had stopped to rest for the night and began to carve into her flesh. Being under surveillance she hadn't been allowed to do this for quite awhile. The feeling of flesh being torn apart gave her a sense of relief. As blood slipped out and stained her white fur she could feel the darkness ebbing away from the edges of her mind.

Sometime during the bloodletting she had ended up falling asleep. Though the sound of the world waking up in the morning had caused her to rouse. She yawned and stretched, feeling rather stiff from the uncomfortable way that she had slept. She found the rock still in her hand, clutched tightly there. A small smile twitched upon her lips as she saw the rock and quickly tucked it away into her gris gris. She would have to make sure to keep this one better hidden. She would have to make sure not to get this one taken away from her.

Feeling a bit better again after having finally been able to get rid of her pent up frustrations she forced herself onto her hands to continue her journey. She still had no idea where she was going but it no longer mattered. It was only when she had ran across someone else walking around did she stop. She paused for a moment to watch the other before taking a few more steps to approach the border but still keeping her distance from it. She sat herself down, dropping to sit on her knees, to sit a foot or so away from the scent that marked the borders.

"I've seen to have lost my way." Though that wasn't exactly true since she wasn't looking for any place in particular to even get lost. But still, the words worked for the time being. "Could you possibly tell me where I am? What pack this is?" And since she had stumbled across another pack's lands then she might as well learn a bit about them. She could bring the information back to her sister. Maybe she might even find out something particularly useful. That would be really good. The more she could find out and bring back to Nani then the more she could prove her worth. And what could be better than that? To finally have something to show Nani that she wasn't just taking up space.
