Whee! Smile

Claudius had not been this far north, well, ever! He had never really enjoyed wandering around the territory aimlessly; it made him feel lazy and unproductive and he always preferred to have something to do. However, in the last few months, he had changed quite a bit: he was now interested in seeing how the lands were thawing out in the wake of the snowstorm. He felt a sudden surge of pride when he thought of how he'd helped dig out the town hall — he never would have done that a year ago. It was an interesting feeling to look back and know that you changed for the better. Claudius really liked it, too. He liked feeling different and he liked this new-found bravery which allowed him to explore new areas and old places. Hopefully soon, he would meet some new faces to complete this little adventure.

As much as he had changed, there were still some things that would always stay the same. The sudden caw of a crow startled him. He stumbling, his arms flailing, and tripped over a snow-covered tree root. He stuck out his other leg and managed to catch himself before he fell, but it had gotten his heart pumping at an alarming speed. He straightened up as he let out a long whoosh of breath. His hands were shaking from the adrenaline even though the incident had only lasted a moment. He chuckled once, twice, and then again until it became a continuous laugh. Once upon of time, that would have sent him scurrying back to his den. But not anymore! He was a new Claudius and here was not heading home now. There was no turning back.

OOC here!

The land wasn't too different here, compared to the areas she had already traversed. There were trees, grasslands, lots of snow.. The only difference was that the air smelled distinctly of wolves. Sure, the borders had the scent markings that told others to leave, or to back off. But to find the smell so pungent further in, told her that the pack was quite large. If they were all two-legged like the wolf Tatiana had enountered earlier, that would be interesting. To be safe - and because of her apprehension - the girl avoided heavily populated areas. She moved quickly, quietly, across the snow; heading in to the territory only to see some strange formations in the distance. They looked like the ruins, but were made of trees, and they seemed quite alien to her. The wolf avoided the buildings and headed back to the outskirts, keeping herself closer to the center of the territory instead of the borders. Having been accepted, it would serve her well to explore - even if the thought of encountering the native creatures was unnerving to her.

Tatiana's path curved around the buildings, keeping them at a hearty distance yet always in her line of sight. She would eventually investigate them as well, but for now it seemed like a good idea to get the edges of the packland sorted out. She headed North, ducking in to the cover of trees - and then there was a distinct sound. It was similar to a deer falling prey to a wolf; a collapse, a thump as it's body hit the dirt. It reminded her that she hadn't eaten in quite some time, and so Tatiana decided to look closer. She wove around trees, and then stopped in her tracks. There was a creature in front of her - one of the two-legged things - and it was getting up. It must have been what she had heard. Oh dear, I hope it isn't hurt, She thought, poking her nose out of the protective shadows to sniff at the breeze. She could not smell blood, so the wolf was probably alright. She watched it from her safe place, curious yet afraid.

Sooner or later, Claudius figured he would have to stop laughing. Eventually, his chuckle died down to a lingering smile rife with satisfaction. He was so impressed with himself – he was out here being his own wolf doing what he wanted, not hiding in his den because it was too scary. Even though he was a little embarrassed he had been scared by a crow (a stupid crow!) he still felt better that he had not let it get to him.

As he regained his composure, he began to survey his surroundings, curious to know if any other creatures – crows especially – had seen that silly display. The wind shifted slightly and he caught the scent of another wolf nearby. It didn’t smell like an AniWayan member, but there was a faint odour. Maybe they were new?

Claudius couldn’t see anyone yet, so he hesitantly called out to the empty abyss: “h-h-h-hello?” He took a step closer to where he thought the scent was and called out again. “I-I’m C-C-C-Claudius.” He squinted, but could not see anyone. He didn’t want to sigh, but he did it anyways. He hoped it wasn’t someone like Brennt or Haku stalking around the woods. Knowing that Haku had been wandering around the AniWaya borders – and that he had assaulted Claudius’ mother! – worried Claudius a great deal. He hoped whoever it was, they were friendly.

OOC here!

It seemed as if her presence was disturbing the stranger, and that didn't sit well with Tatiana. The male seemed scared of her, and she noticed that he had indeed picked up on her scent - looking towards the wilderness, but missing her location. She wasn't too far from his gaze, situated in the dark. Yet he was blind to her; so she decided to make herself known. As she emerged she heard the male call out, introducing himself as Claudius. Interesting name, and not as strange as the other names she had heard so far. That meant there were others here that were of varying origins, much like herself. One thing the girl noticed was his stutter; it was a peculiar quirk, but one she would not question. Some wolves were nervous and held a stutter to their speech, while others had been though a trauma - at times, head wounds could cause the stuttering. Perhaps the way Claudius spoke was because of his recent little tumble? Although that would cause some sort of bloody mess, if it had been a sufficient blow. His fall had been bloodless - Tatiana shook her head in an attempt to shut her brain up, and took a few steps out of the shadows.

"Hello there," She tried to sound as bright and friendly as she could, but there was an underlying nervousness to her own voice. An apprehesion. "I'm sorry for disturbing you, Claudius. My name is Tatiana," The sun coursed down from the heavens and ignited the reds within her pelt, making those orange eyes of hers glow like fire. "I.. I saw you fall, are you alright?" The concern overtook her nerves for a moment and she came closer, head tilting as she sniffed at the air, indicating that she wanted to give him a look over. She wasn't going to invade his space any more than he would allow, of course, especially when he was so scared.

Even though he could not see the other wolf, apparently they could see him. He heard the light sound of snow being trodden upon, but by who was the question. He wasn’t sure if it was a wolf, another predator, or some prey, so he remained still and silent. After a few moments, he saw another wolf emerge and he immediately felt better. He didn’t like these sorts of mysteries and not knowing who was out there made him very uneasy.

He immediately noticed that the wolf was a striking rouge colour with the narrow features and delicate body shape that Dawali had. While Dawali was a male and therefore carried more muscle, the girl was pointedly thin and waif-like, if one could even apply that term to a wolf. He supposed saying ‘twig-like’ was rather rude, so he kept these thoughts to himself.

Soon enough, the wolf greeted him. He tried to reply to her hello with one of his own, but found himself stuttering bits of nonsense and was unable to say anything of significance. Instead, he trotted closer intending to trade scents when he noticed the strange highlights in her pelt. The sun hit some strands of fur in just the right way, revealing red undertones. Claudius faltered and then stopped, instead dipping his head respectfully.

“H-hello T-t-t-t-at… Tatiana…” he began. “I’m a-a-alright. I j-just slipped a-a-a b-bit,” he explained with an embarrassed frown. He flinched when she moved closer, but let her sniff him. He returned the gesture with a small, wolfish smile. He recognized that she was new to AniWaya, but wondered when or why she had joined.

“So y-y-you’re… n-new t-to AniW-W-W-aya,” he stated. It was a feeble attempt at making conversation, but at least he was trying.
