A child at play
#1
Makhesthai was a silent hunter, stalking his prey with pinpoint accuracy..or that was what he liked to think. In practice his tail was waving up in the air behind him and giving him away to everything edible in the area. He looked up as the mouse he had been following reached its burrow and disappeared down it and sighed. It had been easier to catch them where his Moma had lived but he suspected the ones here were used to members trying to catch them and had grown smart.

The young puppy was still in him Optime form and still unwilling to try and shift to any others after the pain of his first one. He moved his weight off of his hands and back onto his feet and stood up, looking around himself, although he admitted he liked being able to see furthur and higher. He set off again, this time no longer stalking small rodents and walked at a gentle leisurely pace, his one good ear twisting left and right for any sounds.

Imacai wasn't any sort of hunter at all. So when he came across a tail high in the air he had paused to see what was going on. He stood still with a tilt to his head, remaining just where he had stopped rather than getting any closer. Then before he could figure out exactly what was going on whoever it was had stood up. He chuckled quietly as the other just walked away from whatever had been going on as if nothing had happened. "Mornin'." He called out to the other with a wave. "Wuh do?" He asked and motioned back towards where the other had just left from.

Though now that the other didn't seem concentrated on something he moved over so that he could check out the are for himself. He dropped down to his hands and knees to sniff at the ground where the other had just been. "Mouse?" What was so interesting about a mouse was beyond him. So why had the other been so nosy about the small hole in the ground? He ended up mentally shrugging it off to take care of some other business instead.

While he was already down on his hands and knees he crawled over towards the boy to try and sniff at his rump. "Wuh name?" He questioned, needing a name to put with the scent should he be allowed to gather it. After all scents gave away plenty of information that would otherwise have to be questioned about to get answers. And of course he presented his rear so that the favor could be returned. It just wouldn't be fair to go scent harvesting and not let the other gather the same information for themselves. The young male certainly wasn't shy about it since he had lifted his tail out of the way to make sure that he was exposed.

D: sorry for taking so long

A soft chuckle made Makhesthai swing around, he had not realized the older male was there behind him nor had he heard his approach. He waved back to the tall male and the mornin' floated on the wind towards him. Makhesthai retraced the steps he had just taken towards the stranger.

"Good morning sir. I was just hunting for my breakfast" Maki watched as the man checked around the area that the mouse had just disappeared from, nodding his head at the question confirming it was a mouse he had been hunting. The man then came towards him on all fours and for a second Makhesthai considered running but then something inside him relaxed and confirmed that this was normal canine behavior. He let the male sniff at his rump and gather up Makhesthai's individual scent, moving his tail out of the way. He returned the favor to the stranger male and took in the information that it told him, that the male was one and a half years old and in good health, that he did not have a female of his own and that he was friendly.

"My name is Makhesthai Lykoi. What is yours? Makhesthai liked the man's simplistic way of talking, the short sentences suited him.

"Find food?" He was questioning again as the other said that he had been hunting. That was something that Imacai couldn't do himself but he knew how to acquire food in the least. While he wasn't in touch with his hunting side he did know how to scavenge in the very least. It was the best that he could do. Then again he had never really had to hunt before. Not when he could trade for, or just steal, what it was that he wanted in the area of Barbados. Then in Eterne he could always count on wolves handing over their food to him. He never had to learn how to hunt when there were other ways to acquire food.

While it was normal canine behavior it was noticed that most had slipped away from such simple things. Just a single scent answered so many questions that would others have to be asked. But it seemed this pup still remembered the old way of things. Scents were exchanged before Imacai stood up once more. "Imacai." He gave his name in the simplest form possible. He had yet to transition into the speech patterns of this area yet. It wasn't that he was uneducated as his simple speech might suggest. He simply altered his patterns to mimic the area that he was in. So for now it showed that he was still new to the area. He had been in Barbados for a couple or so months before he was able to make himself seem to fit in there. He would just have to do it here as well.

The man tilted his head back to glanced up at the sky, clearly looking for something in particular. Finally spotting a black bird he pointed to it. "Food." He started to where he had seen the bird and motioned for the child to follow as well. Imacai had learned to spot his follow scavengers in order to be able to find a quick meal. He knew that bird would lead him to something to eat. Though for the trip to find food he took out a couple of small stems of sugarcane, handing one over to the child while he stuck the other into his mouth to chew and suck on.

He headed to the area where the raven had landed and shooed away the birds that had gathered at the carcass of the rabbit to peck at it. Proudly he pointed down at the remains and spoke. "Food." There was still enough meat left on the bones to make for a small snack. Sure, it might not be a whole lot but he had found food with very little effort on his part. That had to count for something at least. He knew what to look for to find food. Sometimes there was more left than other times but his method allowed him to find something in the very least. And with this find the pup didn't have to worry about it running away from him.

sorry for being such a fail ><

500+

The orange and red hued pup nodded his head as the man repeated his answer as a question, mice and rats were all Makhesthai could hunt with any degree of success at the moment but the small pup was getting bigger, soon maybe he could move up to bigger prey items, he positively preened at the idea of being able to bring his adoptive mother, Kaena a deer or something else just as impressive to the aged hybrid woman. The man named himself as Imacai, the name suited him for it was short and simple. Makhesthai took a step back from the golden man now that their personal scents had been exchanged and names given, he regarded the man with his blue gaze taking his distinguishing features and placing them away in his memory along with his scent.

Maki followed Imacai's gaze upwards to the sky that stretched out above the Infernians, his eyes seeing nothing of importance to the young scarred pup they rolled over the circling bird with disinterest and wondered what the man was looking for in the sky but then he pointed directly at the bird and named it food. Maki tilted his head, food? It was so high up in the air, how would they catch it? but nevertheless he obediently followed the older male as he made towards the black circling form clearly Imacai has knowledge of importance that he wanted to share with Makhesthai and for that he was grateful, any knowledge was good as far as he was concerned.

The coyote man took out the stems of a plant that Makhesthai has never clapped eyes on before and handed one to the Tirones Minor, Maki took the stem from him, thanking him politely at the same time and looked at it as though it might combust in his paws unsure as what to do with it, he turned back to Imacai and observed the man as he chewed on the stem and then appeared to suck on it. Naturally to keep himself alive under his mother's 'care' the pup had resorted to consuming plant matter when he could not find anything to catch to ensure that he did not starve and had found that most plants tasted disgusting so he could not help the small wince and he placed the stem into his mouth and chewed.

He was surprised however as the expected bitterness did not materialize on the taste receptors of his tongue instead a wonderful sweetness spread out over his mouth until his entire taste sense was overwhelmed with it, the pup had never eaten something that tasted like this before, he sucked on the stem so as to extract every last bit of the delicious stew that his saliva made with the innards of the stem. When the duo came upon the rabbit's corpse Makhesthai finally understood the purpose of following the birds like they had done, he nodded his head at the showing of a valuable life skill since it had not taken much from them to walk to this point, again he thanked the man, this time for agreeing to teach him.

Perhaps the exchanging of scent was something that the pup would take to heart. After all not many seemed to do it any longer. There were even those that thought it weird. It was an ancestral trait though. Perhaps it came across as strange simply because of the body he possessed. Perhaps it wouldn't be seen as such if he had been in a different form. But he was most comfortable in this form. After all it allowed him to move as he wished and carry what he would. And of course he had things to carry with him. He kept his pack in his possession so that he could carry his addictive substances with him every where that he went.

This, plus the beans, were the only plant material that Imacai regularly consumed. Of course they were native to where he came from so he didn't expect the other to have experience with them. They were things that only Imacai possessed. Things he got shipped to him because he couldn't do without them. Others had their own fancy sort of drugs, most that he knew of had been regulated for ceremony use, but he had these that he could have whenever he wanted. And just like with Makhesthai, he had no problem with allowing others to sample her personal addiction.

"Good?" He asked the young boy as he glanced down at him. The other had tried to eat it at the very least. And really he had simply passed it along to have something to do while heading to where he knew that the real good would be. He had nodded his head each time that he was thanked. He hadn't really done anything too impressive. At least he didn't consider it as such. He had simply did what he always did to find something to put into his belly.

But what they had come across wasn't anything too large. "You eat." He pointed to what was left of the rabbit and looked at the younger male. After all it had been the other that had been trying to catch food and not himself. Besides Imacai could find something else for himself. He knew the stench of death to search for in order to find other morsels for himself.
