The morning had started out a game. She had woken him when dawn was nearly upon the cold morning. Her eyes were vibrant in the glowing light as she helped him stumble out of bed. Black fingers tied a dark scarf around his neck, the one she had found just for him, and a light blue plaid around her own. The girl continued to rouse the boy by dragging him around the house doing various activities she did by choice most days before he was even up, and then out the door.

Come on, Ezra,

Ever said, her lips pulled back into a full grown smile. She slipped into the dark woods, willing him to follow her. In and out of shadows the silver girl went, all the while following her mate with her eyes.

The past few days had been fragile, almost. Since the snow storm, the two wolves had nearly been stuck inside, forced together, if you will. Ever and Ezra had stayed in bed most days, limited by Ever’s broken wrist. It was healing nicely but still unwilling to do more than sway with routine movements.

She looked down at the tightly wrapped gauze on her arm. But the second of no concentration gave Ezra his chance, and the girl realized this late. Her head turned to find him only a few feet away.

Silly boy …

The girl dared, making her voice high and menacing with love before she slid back into darkness. Snow drifts were thick and common and the blanket was still over a feet around their beach home. Ocean hued eyes looked up to see the dark undercoat of the pine leaves over the growing peach color of dawn. She let out a laugh and crouched behind a fallen log to shift.

The cold made almost everything difficult for her. She felt her muscles ripple stiffly and her thighs recede into lupus legs. But it was taking too long. Ezra would be upon her soon which necessarily wasn’t a bad thing, but the farther she drew him, the more curious he would be. When the transformation reached her wrist is slowed an unbearable amount of time. She couldn’t control a quiet yelp as her injured arm began to reconstruct.

As soon as she was done, Ever began limping around the trees in the teasing game again. She couldn’t see Ezra now, so she slowed dramatically and walked into a clearing, exposing herself as the target. Suddenly, the ground faulted beneath her black paws and a buffeting crack sounded from a ways off. It didn’t take long for her to comprehend that she had stepped onto a frozen lake covered in snow.

Ezra!

Ever cried, the desperation in her voice clear. She wouldn’t have enough time to shift before she would go completely under and once again her injury got in the way of moving swiftly. The girl looked around frantically for her mate as another splintering sound cut through the morning.

I’m a fail at life I sorry. ;; also, I think Ezra should totally wear a black scarf around now when hes in optime ehehe.

Waking up to a surprise had always delighted the boy. After days and days being cooped up in their less-than-perfect beach house, he couldn’t imagine a better way to wake up than being pulled lovingly by his mate out the door. It was tantalizing but he playing along, trying his best not to tackle her in a fit of desire. The boy chuckled as Ever dragged him out of the house, not willing to have her very far away from him. On and on the two walked, Ezra intermittently making eye contact with her, a confused look on his face. He had no idea what was planned for the early morning, but whatever it was, Ezra was excited for it.

The hulking secui suddenly lost Ever, which caused a momentary panic. Bi-colored eyes quickly investigated the woods surrounding the lovers, but her body was nowhere to be found. “Ever?” he croaked out, voice raspy from sleep. Hopping over logs and large mounds of snow (would it ever melt?), Ezra quickened his pace to find her.

A shadow of Ever flickered in front of his vision for a second or two before quickly disappearing again. Determined, Ezra started running in the direction where he saw her, until his name rung out through the trees. The boy turned on autopilot and sprinted over to the source of the terrified sound. There she was, on a clearing which turned out to be a body of water. Ezra’s mind ran a mile a minute trying to figure out a solution to this problem, but he was never really good at thinking on his feet. he called out, getting her attention. The ice was cracking at an alarming rate and Ezra’s mind had absolutely no idea what to do. He panicked, breathing heavily and trying to make up his mind about what to do. Instinct took over him and Ezra galloped to the beginning of the ice. Nervously, the large male tested the ice in front of him with his paw, seeing how much weight it could handle. It seemed okay, so he slowly got all four paws on the weak ice.

The ice started to buckle under the pressure, and Ezra chose to make a gamble. Running as quickly and swiftly as he could across the frozen trap, he made his way over to his mate. “Come on!” he barked, jaws pulling her dainty wrist towards shore. The boy pushed Ever forwards as the ice finally gave in and crumbled beneath him.

She felt the ground shifting beneath her paws, the water churning furiously with the sudden pressure. It was slick and thin but she couldn’t sink her claws in the ice without it completely falling into itself. Panic began to freeze her limbs and quicken the pace of her heart. Ever frantically looked in between the trees for her mate, eyes wide with fear. How could she swim with a broken wrist? The thought made her breath come out in a gasp.

Then she saw him, standing like a knight at the edge of the frost. He was breathing hard and raspy but it didn’t even take him a minute to figure out what had happened. She could see his expression working and she tried not to yelp out in fright. With the weight of both of them, the ice would surely break. The girl begged with her expression for help, and for him to think logically.

But Ezra came, sprinting alarmingly towards her. Ever shook her head, frightened, until he came close. His scent was enough to calm her down. She couldn’t help let out a pained bark when her mate grabbed her uninjured wrist with his teeth. Suddenly, Ever was skidding across the frozen surface and falling on her side in the direction away from where the crack was starting. Her fur was already spiked with frost and she winced as the ice parted to ground.

It took her only a second to regain her breath and realize her mate was still in danger. A sickening crack sounded as soon as she was back on her paws. She opened her maw to cry out but it was cut short when she started back out onto the frozen body of water.

Her body shook with fear as it passed over the unstable surface for a second time. Once Ever was a safe distance from the breakage, she trotted limply towards Ezra. Grabbing onto his paw, his fur, his ear, anything she could get a hold of to try to drag him from the black water. She yanked, ignoring the seething pain in her teeth from the weight and managed to get one of his back legs out. The girl let the man claw the rest of the way out himself while she scrabbled to get a hold on solid ground. With another shove, they both skidded out and into safety where the silver hybrid collapsed in the black male’s lap, panting into the cold morning air.

Sorry for the delay love, school is seriously kicking my butt right now.

It all happened within a few seconds, but Ezra could have sworn his life flashed before him as his legs fell into the pond’s icy water, panic gripping the male. Frantic breaths were in time with his frenzied splashing underwater, trying to get some sort of footing on the ice. It was nearly impossible, and the large man found himself slowly sinking, unable to get a grip. Ezra’s fur was quickly pulled out (but due to the copious amount of adrenaline coursing through the male’s body he barely felt it) by Ever’s dainty teeth, clenched with a sickening strength, determined to get him out of the water. In a flash, Ezra was on solid ground again and the two collapsed in a pile on the frosted ground.

Panting heavily, Ezra stayed limp on the ground for a moment to regain his composure. After a few moments the Marquis’s bicolored eyes looked up at Ever, a twinkle sparkling below the fear. “Don’t… ever do that to me… again..,” he said still panting heavily, his tone halfway between a laugh and a lecture.

End here?

She could feel the cold burning her feet and the ice against her skin. Panting clouds into the air, Ever managed to sit up, still leaning her lupus form on her mate. Ocean eyes stared blankly out onto the frozen oasis until Ezra’s voice cut into the silent morning. She summed up a small smile that disappeared when another gasp shook her chest.

I will not … try,

She said quietly, sinking back into the man’s black and white fur. Her eyes closed for a moment as the silver girl tried controlling her sharp breathing. Ever breath sent ice into her lungs. Sounds of the morning forest returned, lacking the loud cracking of the pond.
