The unpossessing are the unpossessed

The area around the den and caverns had that lived-in, familiar feeling, with the trails of many feet running through it on their ways in and out, and adding to the outward paths today was a small golden-furred pup. She ambled along with her ears pricked and tail waving cheerfully. Everything just seemed brighter lately, now that there were more people around making the atmosphere and community seem more relaxed. Legacy, born affectionate, simply wanted to adopt almost everyone she met as family - and as well there were the ones who really were related to her, and those were almost her whole world. It made a change to be solitary and gave her a little time to let her thoughts have free rein, though in her limited experience the fun of being alone wore off pretty fast. As she loved to be surrounded by the bustle and sociability of their home she didn't often wander far.

She was letting her imagination roam, telling herself a story. She was a princess, and large white beings walked in the clouds above her. The den was her castle. Just then, a jay rattled out of a cluster of trees, interrupting the train of thought, and she bared a disdainful fang at it. It had, although, reminded her of her aim: checking on a little cache she'd made among the roots. A rabbit paw was buried there in a shallow grave, more decay than anything else now, but Legacy hadn't dug it up recently enough to see this. The fun was mainly in hunting for it every now and again. Whenever she remembered to.
