I can feel it

Assuming she doesn't know yet that Denali is dead, dunno if/when she will find out. Sorry for the wait! <3 300+

It had been a good amount of time now since the young silver Marino had woken from her long-lasting slumber. She had been hurting and confused, a mere somber shell of what she had once been, for many weeks after waking. Now, though, Artemis was feeling much different than she had been as of late. The emotions that had once been quiet, introspective pain and confusion had turned to something else, a much stronger feeling of anger. Artemis felt empowered by this emotion. It filled her still small and weak body with a new strength, anger coursing through her as fast as the blood pumped in her veins. Artemis was no longer hurting because of her fall. Now, she was livid.

Though it made her feel good to not be sad anymore, the young girl did not want to show this new and powerful emotion to her family. They had been so worried when she had been asleep and perhaps even more worried that she had not brightened to her usual self upon waking. She had been depressed and feeling hollow and she had not been their Artemis, their Artie, their Missa. She had been nothing but a shell of the lively and rambunctious girl she had always been. Artemis knew that it had worried her family. It had even worried her that she could not seem to feel happy anymore. Now, though, she understood that the feelings of hurt and confusion had been replaced by anger, and she liked it that way.

She was like a time bomb, ticking away the moments until she would explode. Nothing was right with the world. She should never have fallen, and Denali should never have felt like he had to run away because of her. The injustice of it all made her feel so angry. The girl had been secluding herself even more lately than she had been only days before when she had been feeling sad without end. The red rubber ball she had hardly been able to put down had been left beside her pillow for days now. She no longer brought it everywhere with her, and she tried not to think about it as she sat with her legs crossed beneath her, looking at her own reflection in the water of Rabbit Lake. Being alone was the only way that she could guarantee that she would not snap and yell at, or even harm, the wrong person.

thank you for starting!! <33

The fey walked along the lake's shore slowly, her fingers laced against her stomach and her mind wandering lightly through the events of late. Anu had never wished for the changing of the season so much in her long life. It was time, she felt the stirring in her heart and the need for the warmth of the Spring Sun on her shoulders. The round orb was coming closer as the Earth circled around it, and the blue eyed woman watched as the days grew longer and the sky brighter. But the snow was still deep, a chill still clung to the wind and ruffled the gray and silver fur along her back and neck.

She tried not to dwell, remaining calm and collected as she thought of the turmoil that had ensued during the winter. Anu did not linger on her loneliness, and did not wonder how her lost son was doing in the Cour des Miracles packlands. Anu had been happy to see him, to see that he was well and happy to live with Haven. It eased her heart but did not quell the loneliness. She kept herself from letting that cold hand touch her heart, for it was light and painless as she rounded the crescent shoreline. A soft hum vibrated in her throat, and she felt a peace that had been missing for some time.

A figure in the distance caught her attention, and as Anu neared it she recognized the gray toned Marino. The once slumbering girl seemed to watch herself in the icy waters, looking for what Anu could only guess. The elder Dreamer called lightly to her, features of her face only lightened by welcoming eyes and a small curved smile. Artemis. Anu imagined that she was glad to be out of her sleep, but to loose so much time was not easy for a creature so young. When days were as long as weeks and months like years. Now, her time passed so quickly that she could hardly remember when her muzzle was not whitened and her bones free of aches.

It was the beginning of her descent into a hole of anger and confusion, but she did not entirely understand it yet. These were feelings she had never experienced before in her young life. There had been much sadness in recent weeks, as well as a copious amount of guilt simmering in the young silver girl, but the anger she could feel deep within were not something she understood. Artemis had never seen anyone angry in the way she was feeling. Her life had been void until now of anger and hatred that she was beginning to recognize.

Silver ears twitched in response to the sounds of someone’s approach, the voice reaching her moments after she recognized the scent of the one who approached her. She did not feel ready to snap yet, so she did not feel the need to be entirely alone right now. “Anu,” she replied, her tone remaining indifferent and her soft blue eyes remaining focused on the water. She did not know how to interact with anyone anymore. It was as if her prolonged slumber had taken her back many steps in life. The young Marino had grown distant from everyone—her family, the other members of the pack, and even herself. Artemis had changed drastically, and she still did not understand it herself.

She hoped that the older woman was not going to try and comfort her about Denali’s death, because Artemis did not want to hear it. It seemed as if she was the only one that knew that her adopted brother was out there and alive somewhere, but it was true. Maybe he would come back soon and everyone would stop acting like he was dead, because Denali was not dead. He simply could not be. Artemis did not understand why everyone so readily accepted that he was dead, but he wasn’t. He couldn’t be, he couldn’t have died and left her. He was going to come back and then she would be right.

she's testing missy's patience lol

There was a shroud around the young female, a cloud that hung over her shoulders. The negative energy written in the female’s features, reflected towards the standing Dreamer in the lakes clear vintage, told Anu that all was not right. But how could any of them expect it to be so. The world was not the same as it had been after Artemis’ fall and such a thing must be overly confusing for her. It saddened the Praector, and made her yearn to reach the unsettled mind that lived beneath the quickly moving ears that had heard her approach. But the gray grizzled fey was slow, easing her self into the presence of the Marino. A presence that was far from welcoming.

Silver and tan girl spoke her name, and she took a step that would bring her to the lake’s edge and beside Artemis. Slowly, and without the invitation that Anu was fairly certain she would never receive, she sat. It was a liberty that the wolf took, her status not needing that enticement. Blue eyes looked out onto the water, mind drifting as it did when such tranquility was brought to her. She wondered if the younger wolfess saw it too, could feel the peace that surrounded her and softly wished to enter her heart. Anu had learned to accept it many years ago.

The air is clear today, Spring is not far. She commented, her eyes looking out into the world that the pack has claimed as their own. It was idle talk, to those that did not appreciate those two simple facts. Anu could see the importance of both, and wondered if Artemis could as well.

wotd: dapple.

It was a self-inflicted loneliness that she felt, but it was simply for the best. Artemis knew that others did not go out of their way to avoid her, but she did it on her own. The time for grieving had passed and she was bordering on the edge of snapping. Everything about her situation frustrated her and made her angry, but she did not know how to cope with it. She did not want the other members of the pack to see the emotion she could feel within, deep and dark in ways she had never been. This was only the beginning, though she could hardly know that.

It was with the same indifferent, controlled air that she merely nodded as Anu sat beside her and spoke. She had not invited the leader to sit, but Crimson Dreams was a family-oriented pack. Not everything had to be invited, asked for. Artemis was not bothered by Anu's presence beside her, though she much preferred her self-isolation. There was no risk that way of her hurting someone with the anger she felt but could not control as well as others. Soft blue eyes studied the dappled effect of the ripples on the lake's surface, avoiding the leader's face.

It was an awkward moment for her, and though others might have left soon after arriving to find her in such a mood, Artemis did not expect this of Anu. "How are you?" she asked dully, unsure of how she was meant to interact with Anu when she could hardly care about herself and her thoughts were focused on the bubbling beneath her skin.

There was nothing to be said to her comment. Anu took the silence as an agreement, but she replied with only the same amount of quiet. She was able to find peace here, without passing words between she and Artemis. The world was filled with enough voices, enough noise. It was nice to take in the quiet and those whispers of the birds around them and the wind that walked over the lake's surface. It filled her ears, and she watched as it rippled over the glass like waters.

A moment passed and the silver toned young female spoke. Her voice was hollow, void of true interest and lacking any compassion for her well being. Anu had not expected her to speak, and she turned to smile at the girl's outward looking gaze. The elder was quiet for a moment or two, and with an exhaling breath she replied, Tired. Her own tone was mater of fact and light compared to the emptiness she registered with the Marino's words. Too many days of winter, and my bones grow old. Anu explained, voice dragging as if it was as aged as her body. But, she turned them to something light and hopeful, Wish I was a youthful as you.

Sorry for the delay <3

It was strangely uncomfortable to be in the woman's presence now, as Artemis wanted nothing more than to walk away without a word, but that surely would have been too rude to do to her mother's best friend and her subleader. She had never felt uncomfortable around Anu before and it was indeed a strange sensation, one she did not care for in the least. Would it always be like this? Would she always feel displaced within her pack, isolated not only by distance, but also emotionally? She hoped that would not be the case, but for all she knew, the fall had not only stolen a month of her life and her best friend, but her ability to live happily in the pack she had always loved, as well.

Her question had not been heartfelt as it should have been, but Anu answered it, regardless. She could only assume that the older woman knew it had not been a sincerely wondering question, but perhaps she was content to let Artemis to withdrawn as she was. After a pause, she said, "I'm tired, too." Youth did not seem to grant her the ability to not be so, though it was only after her fall that she had felt that way. It was a different sort of tired. It was not age, though she was beyond her physical age, and it was not the desire for sleep. It was something else, something she could not place.

A less patient creature might ask why the young woman refused to fully wake from her slumber. It seemed that Artemis was still in need of a rousing stir to bring her fully back to life. Perhaps she was depressed about the things she missed, about the damage that had come to the pack lands after the storm, or from Denali's disappearance. It was likely all of those things, that hung on the her light gray shoulders. Depression could easily cause aches in muscles, and the feeling of indifference that Anu saw being portrayed. But Anu was practiced in the art of waiting, of simply being without being entertained or amused.

Anu nodded, Yes, you look tired. She commented, her tone even and gentle. She assumed that she did as well, the gray on her muzzle not making her look very youthful and spry. Anu looked out onto the lake, crossing her legs so that she sat with them folded beneath her and settling into a more comfortable position. I could teach you to meditate, if you would like. She spoke as she placed her hands on her knees, lightly and straightened her back.
