Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car

Backdated to March 29.

It had been nice to get out of AniWaya and visit the lands that his friend Anu lead and lived in. It had made the man realize how much he was missing by shutting himself up in the tribe's territory all the time. Of course after the storm had hit there was little opportunity to leave unless it were for necessary supplies. Everything was on the mend now though, and in just a couple day's time he and Liliana would be setting out on their journey to the Great Tribe. Before they left for a moon or so though, Nayati wanted to visit another good friend that he had made: Krystalle. The hybrid woman had been a godsend when he had gone to the town looking for blankets and wood. He surely would not have left there so successfully without her gracious assistance. He wanted to see her and make sure she was well before he headed out of the lands for a while.

Nayati had risen with the sun and fetched Iye from the stables and they had trotted out of the tribe in the direction of the pack that housed the kind doggish female. Some of the trip the hunter pushed the stallion up into a gallop and so the distance was eaten up quickly under the dapple grey's swift hooves. The scent marking alerted the AniWayan to the borders of Cercatori d'Arte and he remembered it well as the scent that Krystalle had carried upon her coat. The Utina smiled briefly before letting out a short but carrying call to his friend. He was completely ignorant of the evils that had plagued this pack of late, else his mood might have been more somber. At the moment though, he was simply excited to see the spiky-haired femme.

After what had happened at the pack meeting, Krystalle had been farther into a pit of undesired depression centered around her strange friend-and-lover. She'd changed from sleeping in the bedroom with the man to the more general area of the living room, and her days were spent as far away as possible. She couldn't do it. She couldn't continue a charade that had only managed to hurt her. Mars loved someone else. She loved Mars, and his affection had twisted to another person. "That ain' how i's supposed to happen," she groaned. In all of the fairy-tales told by her father, the princess got the prince. She wanted Mars. She deserved Mars. She did more for Mars than anyone she had known.

But Mars was so set on someone else.

A heavy sigh escaped into the air as she continued toward the border on the back of Senorita. Staying away from Cercatori was just the best decision, as it meant she wouldn't have to deal with the Russo; she could go anywhere she wanted. As she moved across the land, a call reached her ears, and confusion crossed her features. Was there a new joiner? She'd never greeted someone on the borders before. Turning her horse in the direction of the call, she started to wonder who it might be.

Surprise, surprise, as she saw a familiar cream body astride a familiar equine critter. "Oh! Nayati!" The loud exclamation startled Senorita for the briefest moment, but the Latin female managed to push her forward to meet the man. She slid from the back of the painted steed quickly. "So nice to see you! I didn' think you knew 'bout this pack! Are you here to see a friend?" Her questions shot out quickly, as was customary, though it faded into embarrassment as she realized what she'd done.

It was a relief that he and Liliana had finally made amends after what had happened with the lone male that Nayati had got into a short scuffle with. For a good long while things had been very tense for the mated pair. At first Nayati had felt shamed, but as the silent treatment had continued he had grown a little resentful. Personally, he hadn't thought what he had done had been so terrible to warrant such a reaction from his mate. Some other man had been touching her in slight intimate ways and, healer or not, he wasn't going to have it. If it had been Dawali it of course would have been a different story, but some random man out in the wilds? No, it was too suspicious for the traditional Utina. The rifts had been closed though, and the trip they would soon depart on would strengthen their bond. It would be a honeymoon of sorts.

Soon enough his grey-tipped ears picked up on the sound of approaching hooves and his gaze turned to the recognizable pair heading his way. The smile on his face grew as Krystalle spotted him herself and called out a greeting that momentarily startled her steed. "Krystalle!" As she came up and dismounted Senorita, the AniWayan followed suit as he easily slid down from Iye's strong back. "It is wonderful to see you as well! I do not really know about this pack, aside from it is your home. I did come to see a friend, you of course!" he said with a grin. Nayati knew no one else in this pack, and was a little surprised that Krystalle had not come to the conclusion that he was here to visit her. After all the assistance she had given him and how well they had gotten along, they were friends in his mind.

300+ A bit of PP on the hug; I can change it if you want.

Of course she was surprised to see Nayati, and it was made even more so when he exclaimed he'd come to see her. A light brightened her features at the words. It was nice to have a friend in the world; she hadn't managed to save many in her past, but hoped Nayati would be different. Though their meeting had been brief, he had fascinated her with his mannerisms and talk of the culture of the Tribe. Since that day, she'd met another member of AniWaya. It hadn't been the same as helping Nayati, but she had managed to glean information about the Great Fire. Maybe with the visit, she could learn even more.

Without thinking twice, she found herself closer to the cream-white man, wrapping him up in a brief hug. It wasn't awkward to the Latin mutt, but she knew others had boundaries not to be crossed; instead of lingering, she glancing to the pack lands behind her. "I wasn' expecting a visit, mi querido, or I'd invite you home for tea," she started, rubbing her thumb against the corner of her eye. It wasn't a good time for others to be around. The loss of Orin, the murders, the fighting. Maybe it wasn't Nayati's place to know, but she felt bad without giving an excuse. "Things are kinda bad here right now."

If she couldn't take him home for tea, she was determined to give him something for his troubles. In a stroke of genius, she turned from her friend and bounced back over to Senorita's side. The old mare gave a snuffling grunt, 'causing Krystalle to laugh, though she didn't know what it meant. Her hand dove into one of the makeshift saddlebags hung over the flanks of the paint-patterned beauty. When it returned, it clasped around a painted piece of pottery; as she returned to Nayati, something else rattled around inside.

"Came home after we met and made somethin'; maybe you wanna have it?" Fingers dove into the handmade circle vessel, returning with a small clay figure of a wolf upon a horse. Careful painting showed it to be a white male, with adornments to a thick mane and blue markings on the face and chest upon a dapple-grey steed. She'd brought something similar for Mars, though it had been a piano.

s'all good ^^

Krystalle appeared to be completely surprised that he had come to see her, the light that came to brighten her face though was enough to confirm to the tribesman that he had made a good choice. He didn't have many friends outside of the tribe and he had become so insulated in his home that those few ties could easily become strained and distant. Back in the Great Tribe he had not had even a single friend who lived outside his home, so this was all quite new to him. Nayati wanted to make more of an effort to keep close to those he did not live near. It could not be a one way path, just as with any true friendship. The hug came quickly and it did surprise him. His arms raised up in the air for a moment, but then the smile returned to his face and he gently patted Krystalle's back before she pulled back away from him. The Utina wasn't accustomed to much physical affection between friends, but he knew the doggish woman meant absolutely no harm by it.

Nayati shook his head, wishing to dispel any obligations she might feel. "I did not give you any warning. Your company and conversation is all I was hoping for." Still, there seemed to be some distraction or something bothering the kindly woman as she looked back across the lands of her pack. Her next words made his ears fold back in concern. "I am deeply sorry to hear that. Is there anything I may do to help?" Krystalle had helped him and AniWaya in their time of need and the least that he could do was to return the favor, though he would have asked regardless of prior circumstances. Nayati was a good-hearted man and hated to see anyone suffering.

Quickly she turned and went back over to Senorita, taking something from a bag hung down from the horse's side. Such tack was not used for the most part on AniWayan horses, though Liliana knew how to put it on a steed. Nayati continued with the old ways and saw no need for a saddle or anything else; he had been riding Iye most of his life and they understood one another without such instruments. Krystalle returned with a pot and took something from inside, offering it to him. Nayati took the figurine delicately and looked it over, surprised and touched that it was obviously meant to be him and Iye. "Kyrstalle this is wonderful. Your craftsmanship leaves me speechless, as does your kindness yet again. Thank you." He would find a special place to put it, once his new hut was built.

He seemed to appreciate her gift, though Krystalle herself found it to be rather silly. Still, she smiled and rocked back on the balls of her feet, watching as he studied the figurine carefully. She didn't feel she was a craftswoman, yet his compliment left her proud. A vaguely familiar warmth spread through her chest; subconsciously, she wondered where she'd felt such a thing before, but came up blank. Her arms hugged the delicate pot to her chest. "Someone was killin' stuff. Puppies. Uhm...our leader's son, and is just been tense 'round here lately, mi querido." If she'd had normal ears, she would have pulled them against her skull. The argument that had burst out at their meeting was still fresh in her mind. Mars was still worried about Orin. Krystalle's own feelings didn't matter. Her heart sank to the bottom of her stomach as she returned to the depressing thoughts before her.

It wasn't the time for such sad things, however, and she turned her attention back to the handsome visitor, trying to offer a natural and sincere smile. "How are you, Nayati? How is AniWaya? 've heard stories about it, ch'know. It seems wonderful. Magnifico." She hated Nova Scotia. She hated the stupid artist pack that Mars had dragged her into. All they did was fight, and she couldn't stand it. AniWaya, however, seemed magnificent. Calm, peaceful, natural. More like the home she was used to than she had ever wanted to imagine. She couldn't try to take Mars away from Cercatori, however, and — though she felt he didn't love her enough as she deserved — she couldn't leave him behind. "Kinda tired m'self. Kinda miss home; don' really like it here much." The truth came out to the cream male easier than she had expected.

Nayati had been raised to be thankful of any gift, no matter how small or large it might be. He was truly touched by Krystalle's figurine of him though. It was likely one of the most thoughtful gifts he had ever recieved, aside from the dreamcatcher that Liliana had made for him and given to him upon their day of their mateship. The doggish fey had downplayed her skills when they had spoken of them the last time they had met, and now he had concrete proof that she was much more talented that she admitted. It did not surprise the man in the least. Though when his friend went on to explain the ills her pack had been facing, the words struck him like a blow to the skull. Involuntarily his hackles rose, provoked by such unspeakably evil acts. He was quiet for a few moments, trying to find some words to say and coming up with none. "There are no words for such horrible things..." Pale gaze settled on the ground as he attempted to calm himself. "I hope the monster is found soon, and brought to swift justice." There was no mistaking what kind of "justice" the tribesman had in mind. Death was the only suitable punishment for one who would take the life of a child.

Moving onto other subjects was probably the best for both of them and Nayati made no attempt to dwell on the disturbing news that he had just learned. "I am doing quite well, thank you. AniWaya as well. Rebuilding is finally starting. Stories? What stories have you heard?" He was surprised to hear that word of his tribe was traveling around these lands. Hopefully these stories were flattering ones, from Krystalle's words they seemed to be. When she admitted that she wasn't very happy here, a sad look crossed the Utina's face. "Well, if you would be happier back home, perhaps you should return there? Though I would be sad to see you go." It was more important for Krystalle to be happy though, no one should have to stay a place where they are not content.

Nayati seemed particularly affected by the news of the pup killer, and it confused Krystalle for only a moment. It was true, such things were monsters that deserved their justice, but she had little faith in the abilities of her new home to gather and find the culprit. After all, they were disorganized. The leaders yelled at each other and the pack, there was no sense of camaraderie. She wouldn't deny that she found herself unhappy. She wouldn't lie that she wished she had gone home. But she didn't, she had followed Mars, and now she stood before her only outside friend in a smothered mood.

She was grateful when he had followed the chance to change the subject, and his news was far better than her own. He was well, his tribe was rebuilding. He seemed curious about the stories she had heard, and she quieted to remember what J'Adore had told her. Her ears wiggled at his words on her happiness, causing her to look away. She couldn't leave, not after traveling so far for Mars, and the news that Nayati would be sad to see her leave reaffirmed this fact. It was true that she didn't empathize, but she understood disappointment, and she hated to disappoint. Quietly, she cleared her throat. "Jus' stories 'bout your fire." She didn't want to talk about leaving, not with him. It was already difficult to want it.
