HIDE YOUR INNOCENCE BEFORE THEY SEE RIGHT THROUGH

He's stealing books, or something. idek. >.> wc: 465

The puppy had snuck away from his family’s den early that morning, hoping that he could find the exit from the caverns that papa always brought him to. He wanted to play outside, instead of being stuck inside the dark, smelly caves all day. As easily as the boy had adjusted to numerous changes in his short little life, there were times during the last month where he would feel too closed up in the solid walls of the cavern. As the blue-eyed boy awoke that morning, he felt like it would be one of those days. So he skittered away from the still-sleeping forms of his father and sister in search of the exit, the blanket he had been previously curled up on draped across his shoulders like an overly large cape.

Jackson had managed to get as far as just beyond the common room before his relatively short attention span began to work its magic. He knew that the exit would be somewhere past one of this big caves, but he couldn’t remember which one exactly. The boy bumbled through the caves, peering around corners and hoping to find some sign of the exit he had been searching for. Oversized puppy paws carried him into one of the big caverns, finding a room dimly lit by a pair of flickering torches that flanked the entrance. Blue eyes grew wide at the sight before him, and he continued into the unfamiliar room, already beginning to forget his mission for the morning.

Stacks of tomes of various sizes decorated the room before him, some lumped together in unceremonious heaps and others lined together upon makeshift shelves. The boy hadn’t seen anything like the books before, their novelty quickly seizing hold of his attention. He approached one stack of them and began sniffing them eagerly. They were treasures, he decided—treasures he could show off to his sister! Eagerly, the boy grabbed one of the tomes in his jaw, but found it to be cumbersome to carry around. He plopped himself down on the ground to consider his conundrum, his makeshift cape slipping from his shoulders. He frowned at the blanket in thought, and as an idea dawned on him, the frown flipped into an eager grin.

The boy hopped up and began to pile a few of the books on top of his blanket, and when he was satisfied with his horde of treasure, he seized one corner of his blanket in his jaws and began to pull it back the way he had come. The blanket did its job and pulled the books along with him. Jackson noisily backed his way through the caves and into the large common room, the heavy load of his treasure leaving a trail through the dirt behind him.

Hope your fine with the slight pp. If not, let me know!

There was no such thing as a normal sleeping pattern for the young male with the blue blood. Everything remained the same down here in the dark, and the golden globe above their mountain roof could not assist its children. It could be day or night, but this world underground remained a constant. The hybrid found it easy to lose track of time here, but it was not necessarily a negative discovery. He had been wrong to underestimate his own pack so when he first had come here, but at the same time he felt the dull taste of defeat. It was dangerous for a soul to become attached.

The optime form of the coywolf wandered the silent caves and into the common room, only to discover that he was not the only one up and moving. The little boy was moving in the opposite direction, dragging a blanket weighted with books. Itachi’s stride lengthened as he quietly caught up with the younger Anathema member. Scent said it all, but he knew he had never laid eyes on the younger boy before. A foot stepped down on the travelling blanket and he let the majority of his weight add to it, certainly putting a stop to the boy’s journey for now.

That's fine! :]

Jackson sure was glad he decided to sneak away for this adventure. He didn't know that there would be such exciting treasure to be found in the dark caves of his home. And the caves were so big, there had to be even more amazing treasures hiding in other places too, right? Agony was definitely gonna be jealous of his new treasures, he thought. Maybe if she finally admitted that he was the better leader, he would even share some with her. The prospect of finally getting the recognition he deserved added a renewed vigor to the steps of the boy, who pulled along his blanket with extra enthusiasm.

The hybrid boy hardly noticed that he was not alone in the common room until the stranger came right up to him. Determined to bring his spoils back to the family den, he paid no mind to the stranger until the moment that his backwards shuffle came to a sudden halt. The sudden resistance caught the dual-toned puppy off guard and he stumbled over his own feet, losing the grip he had on the blanket. Blue eyes widened in surprise, sweeping toward his load of treasure to determine what had happened. His surprise transitioned into a smoldering glare once he realized that his stumble was the doing of the stranger. The boy scrambled to stand in front of the other, large puppy eyes still glaring up at the tall figure. "Move!" he demanded, and with a bubbling growl launched himself headfirst at the leg that stood upon his blanket in an attempt to headbutt him into compliance.

There was a small amount of satisfaction to be found within when the boy’s journey was forced to an abrupt halt that caused the four legged body to stumble and fall. It did not really bother him to see the child run off with objects that were shared by the pack, but there had to be some reason why he had decided to act so boldly. For all Itachi knew, the boy could have been asked to fetch the aged forms of books. But what he thought was that a child was merely running away with something it didn’t need. Learning how to read took time, and he doubted someone this young was able to interpret written language just yet.

The response he received was an aggressive one, and he pondered whether or not he appreciated the fierceness he was met with. However, how was one supposed to react when faced with violence? Itachi could seem like a generally peaceful creature overall, for his demeanour always seemed to consist of an uninterruptable calm. There was a slight sensation of pain as the boy launched himself at his leg, and while Itachi did move his foot from the blanket, he bended down and sent an unkind push in the boy’s direction. He did not take well to being challenged on a physical level and would respond with more of what he had been given.

There was the brief feeling of satisfaction for the pup when his bold little assault led to the stranger moving his foot away from the blanket. Jackson smugly looked up at the older canine, feeling especially proud of the fact that he could make someone older than him do what he wanted. He was glad the older male had moved too, because he had to hurry back to show off what he had found. And now he could tell Agony about how he bravely fought to protect his treasure on his journey back! Jackson couldn’t understand why he wanted to stop him in the first place. Maybe this guy wanted to steal his treasure? Well if that was the case, Jackson would just have to headbutt him again.

The smug satisfaction didn’t last long, however. With one quick and easy motion from the other Jackson was sent sprawling down once again, an undignified whine of surprise his first reaction. After a moment the boy scrambled to his feet again, though he wisely decided against leaping to violent action once again. Instead he placed himself in a protective stance in front of the old books, doing his best to stand between them and the mean stranger. He scowled up at the other, hurt reflected in his blue eyes. “Leave me alone! It’s my treasure!” And he wasn't going to let him take it away.

There was a sense of satisfaction when the younger canine’s footing was lost a second time. Uncaring eyes in shades of murder sunsets scrutinized the youngling’s face, seeing the wet glare of emotion in depths of sapphire. So similar to eggshell blue, but the child here was nothing similar to silvery songbirds. Disappointment lingered deep within the Lykoi prince’s hollow insides, but it did not feel much different from the usual emptiness. Yet it was an itch that he could not soothe, and it could prove to turn troublesome. But here was someone else that could pull his focus away from worthless mental images, and the Dasa greedily seized that chance.

Not much a treasure in the older male’s eyes, but he knew that opinions varied. ”I suspect they are yours only because you want them to be,” the blonde optime said drily, turning his head slightly to eye the books. He was not a frequent visitor to the library, for his mother had never cared to teach him to understand the lines painted on white paper. Perhaps this was all about an undiscovered jealousy? ”Where did you find the books?” he asked, wondering if he cared enough to force the boy to return the goods, stolen or not. It would be an out of character thing to do, but Itachi occasionally surprised himself.

HIDE YOUR INNOCENCE BEFORE THEY SEE RIGHT THROUGH
Hi, my name is Jenny, and I have a tendency to disappear for weeks at a time. >_>;

Jackson remained vigilant in his stance to protect the books, silent under the other canine’s unsettling scarlet gaze. The boy half-expected him to push him over again, then laugh as he walked away with his treasure. No such move was made, however, yet blue eyes kept careful watch of the stranger, searching for any sudden movement or sign of attack. Sight and smell told the youngster that he had never met this man before, despite his frequent adventures through the caves. If he was going to be this mean to him, then he hoped he’d never see him again, either.

The older wolf didn’t make another move, instead suggesting that the treasure didn’t really belong to Jackson. The boy’s scowl deepened, but he remained still as well. “I found ‘em, so they’re mine, he protested. What good was finding treasure if you couldn’t take it? If this guy wanted treasure, he would have to find some on his own. Jackson wasn’t going to share with a mean guy like him. The older canine questioned the boy about where he had found his treasure. Jackson shook his head. “Why should I tell you?” If he wanted to find his own books, he would have to look around himself, just like Jackson had.

He remained motionless as the rude child repeated that they were his. Very well then, perhaps the younger canine was correct in that statement. He could understand the situation from that point of view, for if the protesting child believed that everything he found belonged to him, then it would be no trouble tagging along and continue this silly game. The other’s insistent rudeness made him no less encouraged to lower himself down to childish levels. There was no right or wrong he could defend, but he never sought to justify himself before others. They could see and judge all they wanted, for he was eternally free of guilt and shame.

”Well, now I found them, so they are mine.” he replied, uncaring and unfair. Bending down, he reached for one of the books. Flawed eyes remained with the young one though, for he was curios to see the reaction of the brat now when his treasure was jeopardized. He was always curios to see different minds work and execute actions, for there was so much to see. His position in this pack was set in stone, and though Itachi had yet to break the rules here, it did not necessarily mean that he followed and respected them. Perhaps Itachi had nothing better to do than to ruin the young boy’s day.

While the boy understood the importance of rules, and that they were meant to be followed, he was much more fond of creating them himself. He formulated little games to play of the fly, crafting rules that needed to be obeyed to play. In fact, the monochrome pup was so enamored with coming up with little stipulations that he could create them for any situation, regardless of whether there were standards already in place. His views were more important. So it hardly mattered to him that simply taking the books did not necessarily make them his. In his eyes, they were treasures, and by his rules treasures were meant to be taken. It was solid, undeniable.

That is, until the older male took his little rule and turned it against him. Blue eyes widened as the other spoke, realizing that he had been outdone. Jackson tried to hurry and come up with a rebuttal, but he was still empty-handed as his pack mate snatched up one of the books. His flustered dismay returned to the state of anger from earlier, eyes set in a glare and lips fixed in a snarl. “No, you can’t have them ‘cause they’re mine,” he grumbled. He shot the other a defiant look before leaping up, jaws snapping, hoping to get a hold of either the book or his hand. He wasn’t picky.

He was offered a solid response, and black pupils shrank in their swirling sunset seas. He had been wrong to assume that the boy had learned from the first burst of childish violence. Itachi stood above no man, but he seemed to think he did. Perhaps the child found logic in his ways, but Itachi would not listen to this. It was intriguing though, and he wondered how much of the boy’s next act consisted of bravery. Perhaps it was just foolishness that led the young boy to play with fate again. Small puppy teeth grabbed after the book, and the Lykoi prince’s fingers tightened around the worn paperback. But even if he was younger than Itachi, he had strength to wrestle the book away from the hand that so rudely had grabbed it.

No frown of disapproval appeared on the blonde hybrid’s face, but it had not been a clever move. ”You’re rude,” he commented, scarlet eyes narrowing slightly in visible yet mild distaste. ”Do you know what we do with rude children where I come from?” he asked, thinking of the clan that he once had belonged to. Pale arms crossed before his paler chest as he stood up again, unwilling to taunt the boy too much straight away. It wouldn’t do to repeatedly beat a child—he wouldn’t suffer doing it, but he knew that others in this pack were likely to frown at such an act.

The boy felt triumphant as his puppy teeth took a hold of his stolen treasure and he pulled on it with all his might. As he managed to wrestle the book away, a tiny, pleased growl bubbled within his chest. He ignored the dusty taste of the thing as he dropped it back onto the blanket with the rest of his treasure. Awkward puppy paws took a firm stance in front of the stack of books, protectively placing himself between them and the attempted thief. It didn’t matter to the boy that his pack mate’s larger size would inevitably render his defensive posturing useless. He had to do what he could to protect his hard-earned treasure.

The older canine rather impassively called him rude, and Jackson only glared back at him as he stood back up and posed a question. “I don’t care,” he spat. As far as Jackson was convinced, he wasn’t the rude one here. And why should he care what they did wherever this guy had come from? They were in Anathema, so it didn’t matter in his eyes. The older hybrid probably only knew what they did with rude children because he had been just as rude as a pup as he was now. Besides, whatever punishment he had received obviously didn’t work anyway.

Didn’t care. ”Ah, but perhaps you should,” the older canine insisted, lids hooding eternal sunsets surrounding black. No smile was to rise to his smile, though the corners of his lips seemed to tense slightly, as the impulse to do so was present. ”I may not live there anymore, but remove the devil from hell and he will still remember his ways.” But it was not the clan’s ways that he should threaten the boy with. Inferni did not decapitate its youngsters and line them up by the borders, though this hybrid’s head could easily end up there if he stepped wrongly at a later stage of life. However, it was more probable that it was Itachi that would end up there, with crows feasting on dead sunset eyes.

He slowly blinked, though looked away, feeling his curiosity about this child quickly waning. ”You should be careful though,” Had those puppy teeth touched skin, he wouldn’t have been forgiving. It was silly to make a scene when all the kid had done was to steal a few books. Itachi couldn’t read, and therefore he had no reason to make a scene out of this. But his dislike for this child was now a fact, and he was certain that the feeling was mutual. Hopefully this was the largest issue they were to share. The male turned, casually rolling his shoulders and turning his attention elsewhere, away from the child that he had no reason to bother about in the first place.

HIDE YOUR INNOCENCE BEFORE THEY SEE RIGHT THROUGH
Cerulean eyes continued to glare up at the older male as he spoke once more, subtly taunting words greeting his ears. Despite the boy's dismissive front, it was hard to deny that part of him listened in with the ever-present curiosity of youth. What could they possibly do that would require apprehension from the brave little Jackson? Yet it seemed he wasn't going to get any answers, instead receiving a cryptic warning that likened the male to a devil. The significance of this went over the hybrid boy's head, and he snorted in response. What was that even supposed to mean? As far as Jackson was concerned, this only proved that his earlier warning had all been a bluff.

The feelings of disdain were most certainly mutual. In his short life so far, Jackson could not recall feeling so angry toward another. In New Brunswick, things had been simple, and no one had treated him in such a way, but here in Anathema it seemed that it was either a hit or a miss with his packmates. He almost wished that his father hadn't decided to move all the way out here. The youth watched the crimson-eyed man turn, eyes still fixed in a glare at his retreating form. A moment went by in which the boy remained standing vigilant alongside his treasure, wanting to be certain that the male would not be returning. Satisfied that their encounter had truly come to an end, the hybrid bent down, grabbed the blanket between little puppy teeth once more, and resumed his trek back to his family's den.
