Bitter Reminder

Matteo's in his Optime form, close to noon.

Life in Anathema wasn't actually so bad for Matteo. Giuseppe was almost constantly distracted, (which was both good and bad for the kid) so Teo didn't find himself nearly as sore everyday as before. The members of the pack generally left him alone so far, and it helped that the boy spent most of his time tucked up in his room or the library. Today was very much a library day, as it found the albino lad tucked away in one of the darker corners with a latern, reading one of the many books they had there.

Previously, he'd found himself a blanket as well, and the boy had wrapped himself in it rather snugly, both to hide his bare chest (his shirts had all gone missing) and to keep warm. Living underground was great for the albino; no harsh sun, no harsh winds... he was protected from the elements... but he was also left with a stale chill almost constantly.

As Matteo read on about various aspects of human life, he found himself wondering just where his brother had gone to. He'd woken up to find the darker male's bed empty and cold, as if he'd gotten up very early or he just hadn't been home at all. What's more, despite actually looking around for him for an hour or so, Matteo hadn't seen a single hair of his brother all day.

The Trovato frowned deeply as he read over the same line for the thirteenth time. He made a small noise of frustration and closed the book. He stood, wrapping the blanket around him, and moved to put the damned thing back. Today was most assuredly not a library day. He decided to go out to the kitchen and see what he could find to eat; hopefully no one would mind him stealing a few scraps or something.

As he moved out to leave the storage area, he was faced with that same nightmare; the common room. If he could flit past everone in there and manage to get to the Feasting room without being noticed, he'd be able to avoid awkward conversation. Already he'd noticed a few looks over the past few weeks, and Giuseppe had explained that it was due to his fur; pure white was bad here for some ungodly reason. Wasn't Naniko pure white, though?

His mind raced over and over this little topic a few times as he somehow managed to get into the Feasting Room without being stopped. It's becoming easier to do things without being noticed... I guess most of them are used to seeing me sneaking about now. Matteo darted through the room and into the kitchen, praying he'd find something to eat and maybe to drink. At least it's warm in here... He thought as he started his search.
