The sun was shining. It shone brightly on her tawny pelt, imbuing warmth despite the general chill of the spring air. The grass was damp still from dew, gleaming like glass in the slanted sunlight. Her paws quickly became wet and cold, and the feathering at the edges of her pelt soon felt gruesome. Even so, a fluttering of white caught her eye. Ducking low, instinctually, she watched with raptor eyes as the butterfly drifted along in a haphazard pattern, dipping and swaying all while fluttering its pale wings.

She moved closer, swift and low as a cat, watching with undivided attention. Suddenly, she sprang, smashing it to the earth with one cream paw. It fell, instantly dead. She stared at it for a time, as though unable to comprehend why it had so abruptly stopped its fluttering.

Let the butterfly crushing commence 8D.

In Character

Magnolia had been spending her mornings sunbathing. Now that the temperature had finally stabilized above freezing, the silvery female was getting lazy. Food was never an issue in the kingdom, and she was always welcome at Niro’s for food. She stole food from the house when he wasn’t around, but she had also become quite adept at hunting rabbits and chipmunks lately. They were small prey, and she was often hungry not too long afterwards, but it was enough to get the young woman by day to day.

Neon green eyes caught sight of an unknown figure a few hundred yards ahead of her. Magnolia was in the heart of the Kingdom’s territory, so she wasn’t wary that it could be an unfriendly stranger. Eyes narrowing, the silver teenager lazily stretched and slinked over to what turned out to be a female puppy crushing something into the ground. “You killed it,” she said bluntly, realizing that the young one’s prey was a butterfly. “Why’d you do that?” Magnolia asked sharply, eyes still narrowed. The puppy seemed more dog-like than wolf-like, which intrigued the Princess. Odd coloring. But then again, not many wolves around here had mohawks, either.

She didn’t yet understand that violence could actually bring harm. Though the squeals of her siblings when she sunk her teeth into them excited her, she didn’t know empathy—she felt nothing but excitement, so surely her actions weren’t harmful. Besides, she’d always get her way then anyway.

Her head turned at the soft sound of grass being crushed beneath someone’s paws, bristling and eyeing the stranger warily. She spoke, accusatory. The hybrid girl pouted, displeased at such a tone.

“Killed it?” Elvira repeated, unsure of the meaning. Had she broken her toy so easily? Even the stuffed things that her mother brought home for her stood up easier than the butterfly had.

Mainly, she was just disappointed that her entertainment had so quickly come to an end.

It was Magnolia’s own mother who taught her about death. She believed to be dead herself after all, which was a disease Magnolia had not appreciated until very recently. She had been too young to understand her mother’s affliction and (in Magnolia’s eyes) complete bullshit beliefs. There was no way her mother could be dead and still give birth to her and her sisters, but now Magnolia realized death was a very real, real thing, even if Lolita had been faking it.

The young wolfdog in front of her repeated her own words, as if unable to comprehend. Green eyes rolled in annoyance as she pointed to the dead insect with a dainty paw. “Duh. It’s dead now. Gone. You took it’s life away.” Magnolia was being intentionally cruel, trying to get a reaction out of the pup, but she was getting reactions far different than what she was expecting. For shock value, Maggie made her way over to another floating butterfly not too far away from the two girls. She instantly crouched down into the growing grass, stalking her prey. With one last look to the hybrid, the girl jumped into midair, catching the butterfly in her mouth, chomping down with a murderous zeal.

“See? I killed one too,” the princess stated matter-of-factly, spitting the corpse out of her mouth, a big grin erupting on her fragile features.

The stranger’s tone was less than forgiving toward her ignorance. Elvira could feel her face twisting into an ugly expression, unable to tolerate anything but compliance toward her and her demands. But the creature demonstrated further, snatching up and devouring a butterfly all on her own. Her expression relaxed, reverting to indifference—save the hard, cold stare she could never erase.

If anything, she sensed potential fun from this game of sorts. Predatory inhibition was invoked, leaving the girl to slink again through the wet grass, slamming another butterfly to the ground with undeniable delight.

What shenanigans should these two get into next?

Admittedly, Magnolia felt a shred of guilt far, far down in her chest for patronizing the young puppy. She had no idea about all the wondrous knowledge she had gained from the school of hard knocks. It was bad, but Magnolia’s pain was a source of power for her; she knew far more about the world than other girls her age. Not that she interacted with many puppies these days; but the teenager was positive she had gone through hell and back with her parents.

Maggie caught another, and then another, rejoicing in the death of the insects with a simple flash of her teeth. It was so easy and its easiness was what made the mohawked teenager squeal with glee. Soon enough, she figured, both of them would get sick of the moths bad taste and would have to figure out something else to do. The girl whipped around in a continued frenzy, green eyes locked on her new playmate, and lowered her front legs onto the mossy ground, haunches straight up in the air. Now ready to play, the girl had uncontrollable glee and wanted to play more with the fair haired infante.

From birth Elvira had been notably wrong. Her bad blood appeared to be at blame, inflicting her with an unnatural darkness right from the start. She was a predator, with the eyes of a feral wolf, rather than a domesticated dog. Selfishness fueled her actions. Outwardly, she seemed to think and feel nothing. There was only a wicked animal, observing without saying a word. Intelligence gleamed behind her sharp eyes, despite her primal aggression. Eventually, there were no more insects for them to murder. The flurry of movement had sent the remainder fluttering away, out of their reach.

Elvira sat down, watching as the other canine assumed a play pose. Normally, she was the one in control in such situations. Cruelty was her game of play. She’d viciously provoke and harass her siblings until they squealed. But this creature was far larger than she was. The child was unsure how to handle the situation. She’d never learned how to properly play with another. Thus far, she’d never practiced making friends. Remaining seated, she cocked her head slightly, perking both of her folded ears forward in an inquisitive manner.

Sorry for the wait I srsly suck :<

The little one in front of Maggie was irritating. Emerald eyes rolled as she exhaled rudely, unwilling to be patient with the young girl. The silver-haired girl put her feet back in the normal, 4-leg position, sighing loudly as she did so. “Well you’re no fun,” the princess said sharply. “Don’t you know how to play or did no one ever show you?” Magnolia didn’t realize the severity of her words at that moment. The girl could tell that the pup before her was different but in a way she couldn’t really figure out. The child in front of her just seemed different than other pups she had played with in her lifetime.

“Since I like you, I can teach you,” Magnolia said matter-of-factly, sure she was better than the fair-haired girl before her. “What your name? I’m Maggie,” She asked kindly, suddenly intent on becoming friends with this peculiar girl.
