Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground

ooc: +3. I thought this setting would be perfect for Jackson to act brave. And I left this open ended on purpose XD.

It had been a long while since the lone shadow had found himself on these lands, pitted against the solitude against his own will. Though he rarely left the mountainous areas since his placement in Anathema, the bone male often found himself wandering around the craggy lands. Occasionally he'd go towards the sea, with a silent, longing glance at the horizon for his homeland; or towards the open fields at the foot of the mountains, in secret hopes he'd find the female he helped train all those moons ago.

However, none of those goals crossed the warrior's mind. The westernmost part of the lands just at the edge of the pack proved most promising for game, which became the giant's motive to cross the rocky outcrops. Helmet was vacant upon his head, but the giant's axe was ever-present, gripped by its leather-bound hilt. A fast meal would be easier on more level land, and with that in mind the warrior found himself traversing dangerous, rocky cliffs to barren grassland. Small weeds rose from crevices at odd angles, as far as the eye can see, towards the rolling foothills that appeared miles away. The colossal shadow continued to move westwards, until the barren grass he stomped on ate away into the mountain range, suddenly transforming the dry wasteland into thick vegetation.

With the fading sunlight, the dense growth that Viking now found himself surrounded things made his surroundings even darker. Single eye glinted from under heavy brows, adjusting his eyesight to the new light as his heavy mass pushed onward. A sudden rustle in the bushes made the bone washed warrior freeze in place, scarred ears swiveling forward above a head of thick hair.

Something was bold enough to cross the warrior's path, and as the warrior hunkered behind a line of shrubbery adjacent to the noise, it would be its last move. King would not shift to hunt down his prey - he never had. Having been forced to stand on two legs, as it was the way of the fighter, forever would the male stay in that form. In his mind, it was the only form he could take, but hunting over the years was almost as swift as being on four legs. Silently, Viking listened for any other movements from the prey animal, whatever it might have been. Any other signs he might see or hear would be cue for the giant to make his move.

The game had just begun.

Thank you for starting, and many apologies for this ridic wait. I am a derp. wc:354

The wolfdog boy was beginning to rediscover how much he preferred the outside world to the dank, dark caverns he now called home. He had accepted the change without complaint at first, so happy to simply be reunited with his father and sibling that he made due with the ill-lit and closed off spaces. Weeks of exploring the vast expanses of the cave system had left the activity feeling dull, and so Jackson was once again beginning to venture his way out into the brightly lit world in search of something new to entertain himself with.

The pup travelled wherever his oversized paws would take him, blue eyes taking in the wonder of the varied landscapes Anathema laid claim to. His wanderings eventually brought him to a densely populated forest, where he found himself playing a game of chase with a most displeased little squirrel. Eventually the little creature wound its way effortlessly up a nearby tree, where it chattered down at the boy in agitation. Jackson ignored its indecipherable cursing and busied himself with trying to find his own way up the tree.

In searching for a pup-friendly path up the tree, the boy circled around it, eventually pressing himself against a nearby cluster of bushes in an attempt to discover the best possible viewing angle. As blue eyes searched about the old form of the tree and the surrounding area, he caught sight of a brief flash of a hulking form ducking down out of sight, and the surprise left Jackson frozen in place. Who was that? When he finally regained his bearings and was about to circle around the shrubbery to discover who was lurking nearby, an idea struck him. Maybe he could scare the other into coming out!

He waited in the bushes, a fierce and excited grin lighting up his features. He could hardly keep his tail from wagging and smacking against the cover of the foliage. When only silence continued to greet him, the boy inwardly counted to three and then leapt from his cover, letting out a series of what he considered to be very frightening barks.

An onlooker may have thought it strange for a wolf not to shift onto one of their four-legged forms in a hunt, but the moment that King's flesh was cut into and the blood bond made to transform him into a two-legged creature, King was to stay that way. Though the warrior was far away from his homeland and those he grew up with, the eyes of the gods were always watching. Viking knew, somehow, that any disobedience would prove harmful to him in some form. The giant dared not challenge the higher-ups - he was born a warrior, made a killer, and must stand up like one.

His tense back legs, ready to spring, halted in their bone hued cage when the giant's ears caught wind of an unusual set of sounds. And forest creatures certainly didn't squeak, or even bark. But as the puppy burst out with its attempt at frightening barks, the giant across the way need not try. Rising up to his full height behind the bushes, Viking stepped forward into the clearing, the shadows playing on his form to where the only sunlight that shown on his muscular body was across his single eye. It glowered down at the small creature that made annoying noises, and had the scent on it been anything but of the warrior's clan, it would have certainly been hunted down.

Stepping further forward into the dappled light, ivory teeth glinted as they were bared, showing the displeasure at the pup's intrusion. Surely it scared off whatever the bone washed giant was about to kill and make an easy meal out of. Had the warrior wanted to, the blue-eyed runt would have been a mere replacement, but the boy should have considered himself lucky, then, for being a part of the same underground pack. Viking's teeth-baring remained, however, looking down at the young wolf with a silent question: What are you doing out here?

HIDE YOUR INNOCENCE BEFORE THEY SEE RIGHT THROUGH
Hi, my name is Jenny, and I have a tendency to disappear for weeks at a time. >_>; wc:329

Jackson was always eager for games of hide-and-seek and relished in any opportunity he could find in attempting to frighten others. During the past few weeks within the winding caves of the pack’s dwelling, Agony had frequently been his victim. The girl treated his attempts at mindless games and cheap scares like a big waste of time, yet Jackson let that discourage him. However much fun it was to annoy his sister, the boy was still glad for the chance to scare someone else now. As his squeaking barks resounded through the trees, he eagerly anticipated the stranger’s reaction.

It wasn’t what he expected. There was no yowl of surprise, no sudden movements or attempts to dash away. No, there was only a slow rising and steps taken to bring them closer. Jackson hadn’t expected the other to be so big. As the figure moved through the dappled shadows with no sign of the reaction the boy had been hoping for, his barking quickly gave way to silence. Blue eyes widened as they took in the features of the one-eyed man, mouth gaping open in his own display of surprise. He froze in place for a moment as the man stepped closer.

The boy eyed the glinting ivories featured prominently in the other’s glowering expression. It was frightening. With that, a thought struck the boy—this guy was trying to beat Jackson at his own game! He couldn’t let him get away with it. The boy planted his feet on the ground with firm steps, baring his teeth at the other in an attempt to emulate his expression. Scent revealed the giant as another member of the pack that the youngster had yet to meet, another to find themselves becoming an unwitting playmate of the boy. This would be the Scary Game. Whoever gave up first would lose. Jackson gave the other the best glare he could muster, throwing a bubbling puppy growl into the mix for good measure.

In silence, the foreign male simply looked down and watched the pup's reaction - large eyes only growing wider. Viking was the last thing the pup expected, and yet the pup was the last thing he expected, too. Frustration was eminent in the single ruby eye of the male, gaze naturally narrowed in any given circumstance. The giant expected a quick meal out of this situation, not a fuzzy runt that would only scare it off. And, what was worse, he was part clan, which suddenly placed a whole new boulder of responsibility on the warrior's bare, squared shoulders.

A similar situation suddenly reminded Viking of the pup from another pack that he saved from a hole in the earth, and it followed him until he broke down and returned it home. Now, standing before him was yet another annoying ball of fuzz, who had probably gone adventuring a little too far from the pack and his mother. What was with all of this? It was beginning to occur to Viking that the materfamilias of these lands cared too little for their pups to be watching over them. Though the bone hued giant could say the same, with his record of playing "puppy retriever", that wasn't the case.

What took the axe-wielding male by surprise, however, was when the black and white pup's frightening reaction changed to an attempt at being scary. His own eye widened only slightly in reaction to the milk teeth that the young thing bore back at him in response. His own teeth were shielded, King's blank face now becoming a clear expression of confusion. He would give it credit for being so bold, though inwardly it was rather comical to think that the pup could scare away a wolf three or four times its size.

If the runt wanted to play the game, so be it. The dark-haired male looked around him, then, as if to check if anyone else was around to watch. Then, still standing, Viking leaned forward and bared his teeth, lips parting as wide as they could without opening his ivory cage. As if the male couldn't be any more frightening, his hands came forward to display sharp claws, fingers arched as if he were going to attack the helpless creature. The axe, still gripped in his right hand, came forward only slightly as well, the edge of the blade catching a glint of light among the forest. His throat rumbled with powerful bellows that came from his heavy chest, slightly suppressed only by his clenched fangs.

Jackson had his favorite element on him for the start of this game--that of surprise. While his first attempt at using surprise and shock against the strange giant had failed, it seemed as if this time he had used it well. The wolfdog boy was an expert at suddenly starting up games, and this time it worked to his advantage. However, since it was the Scary Game they were playing, Jackson was content to explain it away as pure scariness on his part. His large packmate's glinting ruby eye widened almost imperceptibly, his features blanking before making the switch to pure confusion. With such a reaction. they boy was almost certain that victory was at hand. He couldn't give up yet, though! Until the big, scaredy giant gave up, the game wasn't over. So the boy's oh-so-frightening snarl continued without pause.

The giant began looking around, and the confident boy took that as a sign that he was thinking of running away. Ha! For such a big guy, he couldn't handle a little scariness! The black and white pup was feeling pretty smug when the foreign wolf leaned forward without warning and began another assault of scariness. The boy's growl came to an abrupt stop, floppy ears pulling back in an unwanted display of surprise and fright. This guy had such big teeth! And frightening claws and some strange object the boy had never seen before! But as scared as Jackson suddenly felt, he knew he couldn't give up that quick. The snarl was gone from the boy's lips, but his eyes narrowed into the fiercest glare he could muster. He had to ignore the scariness and show that he was the bravest one ever! And what better way to display his bravery than to go in for the attack? The boy took a few bounding steps forward before oversized paws propelled him into a leap. One paw stretched forward and took a swipe at the flat side of the weird thing his packmate held in his hand while he once again barked his squeaky puppy barks.

Inwardly, it pleased the foreign, colossal male to see the pup react as it should when he contorted his facial features and extended his hands to scare it. Its bright, blue eyes - once full of youthful ferocity - expectantly grew wider and his body stiffened up. For a moment, it didn't seem right for King to be having any fun in frightening the young pup, but it was a hell of a lot better than just devouring it for punishment in running his meal away.

However, Viking was further taken by surprise when the black and white pup stood its ground despite being unnerved, and the giant threw his head back slightly in reaction to the sudden leaping of the brave little ball of fur. It hurled itself towards King, looking almost animalcule in comparison to the warrior, and with one tiny paw he lashed out at the metal on Viking's axe. Single eye followed the bouncing pup until it landed back on the earth with a dull 'thud', and his scarred ears pressed back at the assault of more puppy yelps.

A deeper silence overcame the large male (if that was even possible), trying to gather just what the pup had done in attacking the male's weapon. His snarl never left his own lips, however, and his guttural sounds only deepened in frustration at this young, brave little male. "Hva gjør du?" He spoke through bared teeth, drawing his upper body back up to his full height, feeling his hand wrap around handle of his axe even tighter.

S'okay, mine's short too. o:

Jackson was filled with the triumphant feeling of success as his little paw came to strike against the object. It was much more solid and sturdy than he thought it would be, and despite the fact that his attack had accomplished essentially nothing, the youngster couldn't help but feel proud of himself. As he came back down to the ground, landing on his rump, blue eyes sought out the scared reaction he had been hoping for. His sudden attack had succeeded in bringing confusion rather than fright, it seemed, but the boy wasn't going to let that deter him. The tall stranger stood straight once more and Jackson took it as a sign to continue his assault of fear.

Before he could do more than glare up at the towering figure, confusion visited itself upon the young boy as well. The colossal male spoke deep, gruff words that held no meaning to the boy. Confusion danced briefly within tiny blue eyes. "What?" he asked, frowning up at the giant. The frown didn't last long, however, quickly resuming its status as Jackson's most menacing scowl yet. The stranger was just trying to trick him and catch him off guard! Well, Jackson wasn't going to let himself fall for the ruse. He couldn't give up now. There would be no irenic gestures from the monochrome pup yet, not until their was a clear winner in their little game. With the giant's weapon now out of reach, the boy turned his assault to his toes with a sudden pounce.

After King spoke, in a language which he knew the pup's small brain wouldn't comprehend, it looked just as confused as he was in that moment. But the pup's reaction was to simply ask a question in its squeaky voice. Viking glared down at the pup, and spoke in broken English. "What doing?" As soon as his words came out, the pup's short attention span took hold and it lost focus on the giant. Instead, another assault became directed at Viking's feet, as he felt the small, fuzzy pup pounce atop his feet.

At first, the colossal male's reaction was to kick the runt away, but then thought better of it. It occurred to the warrior that this pup was playing a game of sorts, to either try to scare away the bone-hued male or to annoy him. Though King would never admit it, it was doing a pretty good job of the latter. When the small, fuzzy body attacked his foot, he had decided that enough was enough. With his free hand, Viking stooped down and picked the pup up by its scruff, with only his thumb and forefinger.

Bringing the black and white pup to his eye level, which was fairly high off the ground for the runt, he stared into the pup's bright blue eyes. Though it was uncommon for the foreign male to look at a wolf straight in the eyes, as it was deemed a challenge, this was a pup; the worst it could do to King was nibble at his toes. "Nok." Though the pup couldn't understand the word, it was said in a short and irritable tone of voice (none different than his normal vocal tonality) that was sure to convey the meaning. Despite the irritation evident on the warrior's features, he gently settled the young wolf back down onto the earth. The large male snorted through his wide nostrils, and was given another gentle reminder of being hungry. His form turned to continue down the path, where small caves could be found, intending to leave the pup to return from whence it came.

It's all good, m'dear. wc:301

Grumbling words came from the towering male once more, but this time Jackson understood their meaning. What was he doing? He was being scary, of course! What did the big guy think he was doing? Jackson let his toe-pounce do the speaking for him, landing upon the big wolf’s feet with a satisfied growl. Then suddenly he felt the man’s fingers take a hold of his scruff, lifting him away from the conquered feet. He squeaked in protest, blue eyes taking in the challenging ruby-eyed stare of the foreigner’s features. Jackson frowned at the giant as he uttered another unknown word, tone firm and gruff. The pup didn’t know what he was saying, but he certainly didn’t seem pleased. The monochrome boy was determined to give the one-eyed male a piece of his mind, but before he could so much as open his mouth or swing his paw, he was placed back on the ground.

He stared up at the adult as his feet touched the soil once again. Surprise left the boy staring as the man snorted and turned away. He was leaving? That could only mean one thing. He must have been speaking his surrender, then. If he was giving up, then that meant that Jackson won! The boy puffed out his chest with newfound pride. If Jackson could win against the giant, then that meant that he was the scariest scarer to ever live. “I win!” he proclaimed to the retreating figure of the foreign wolf, before bounding off after him. “Where you going? I won’t be scary anymore, promise!” His new playmate might’ve been so intimidated by the boy’s display that he decided to run away, but the youngster wanted to show him that he could play nice too. Then maybe he wouldn’t be so scared anymore.
