LET THE MOTHERHOOD BEGIN.

The mid-morning sun shone down on the world, bathing even the dense forest in its bright light. It was brisk outside, even with the warming sun, but the shaggy female that traipsed about the wilderness almost didn't feel it. Inwardly, however, as she took large, shuffling steps along the forest earth, Malachi was chilled to the bone. Though the leader of Crimson Dreams had forgiven the large creature for intruding upon the lands, if only to see Denali.. Mala was also informed of her dear friend's death.

Her heart, which lay behind her scarred chest, was heavy with grief at the news. So much so that the great big female enveloped the mother, the one who attacked her moons ago, in a large hug. It was in this way that the heavy stranger and the alpha of the lands connected; if only the bond wasn't through the loss of someone simpatico, who meant a great deal to the pair.. and no doubt affecting many other wolves.

"Hnngg.." Came the small cry from her cream colored muzzle, waddling along amidst the trees where no one but the forest creatures could hear her. Her grieving at the beach did not stop there. She was alone, and felt even more alone without her young companion nearby. He helped her, in many ways, but mainly in getting over her fear of pups, though traces of it remained. Denali was special, in that way, and now he would never come bounding up to play hide and seek, or to play tag, or for her to see him grow up.

As the grizzled beast meandered into a small clearing, the sounds of running waters wafted through her rounded ears. A creek cut into the heart of the area, strewn with mossy rocks that form a zig-zag path across. A gust of wind blew as she entered, then, caressing her, and honey eyes closed for a moment to feel the spirit of a lost friend. "If only you had gotten rid of this fear.." Mala mumbled, ambling to the bank of the creek and staring across her next biggest fear. There the female stood, as if battling to work her way across or find another way around.

WC:367 OOC: She puts her out of her comfort place hahaha

She wouldn’t let it happen again. She refused to. She hated how it made her fee, when someone hurt her, especially that someone being her hero, the light of her life, the only thing that was able to teach her anything. Now he was gone and she couldn’t find him. The hurt in her heart was almost too much to bare for the little puppy so she did the best logical thing she could think of. She ran away. She didn’t want anyone else hurting her like her daddy did. She would leave everything behind just so she would not have to feel the pain of loss again. Who needed family anyway? Who needed warmth of a mother’s touch, or the laugh of a cousin when he made a joke?

She would eventually find all this out later, but now she was far from her home, and was learning the first lesson in leaving her home. She was hungry, and though she thought she’d make a great hunter, she was far too young yet. Grumbling she was miserable and hungry now. Finding it would help to take a drink. She found a creek flowing along the forest floor, so she decided to get a little drink. Her mind was not on where she was, and she’d found herself in the muddiest area, where she found it hard to keep her footing. She slipped, and found herself going face first in the water. Now the creek may have been slow moving, but for a four month old pup who’d never swam, nor felt the cold of the water but on her tongue she was shocked and was soon washed away. She couldn’t swim so panic set in, and as panic set in, she started flailing, the creek led her downstream, wherever it felt like moving her to and she wondered how long she’d go like this? Would this last for ever?

HELP!

She cried, doubting anyone could help her in this horribly fast moving water. Her fur was wet and she was shivering, she was alone, and this was all her fault, her life was nothing but a torrent of dog poop.

Bahahah.. so I heard you like fears, so I put a fear in your fear..

If there was ever a time Malachi wanted to understand the spirits in the world, it was then. The shaggy female grew up learning about how the souls of loved ones departed, but pieces of them remained in different natures. Wind, for one, was not just a gust of air rattling the treetops, or pushing the currents of the river on.. no. It was a voice, of sorts, a reminder. More often than not it came at the right moment, to act as a guiding spirit.

And it was this strange voice that drifted in the air, then, but when the wind died down, the voice remained. and came in as clear as a bell. Short, round ears caught the call of desperation, and eyes snapped to attention to the creek. In the distance, something was wiggling - and it didn't look like any fish, either. Another light gust of wind blew towards her, and then the strange thing came closer.

"A pup!" She blurted aloud, suddenly forgetting her own troubles which led her to the clearing to begin with. The large beast waddled to the edge of the bank, but skidded to a halt, staring wide-eyed into the frightening, deep waters before her. Turning her head to the fast approach of the helpless young pup, the giant creature had to act. Backing up slightly, her large form leaped onto the nearest rock, claws scrabbling to hang onto it as if for dear life. When she gained her footing, Malachi looked in the distance again, trying to spot her flailing target amidst the other rocks. As the current drifted the pup further to the center, the grizzly female swallowed hard before making another jump to an adjacent rock.

A loud 'SPLASH!' was heard as her scarred back leg submerged into the water, making Malachi's heart leap and her skin prickle with the fear that washed over her. Using her powerful front end to bring her leg back up onto the boulder. Sounds of distress could be heard coming from her chest, as Mala found herself breathing hard, and not only from her heroic efforts. "Okay, Mala.. it's just like fishing.." She spoke aloud, attempting to get over her fear for the moment and convince herself that there was a reason she was there, in the center of the creek, facing her two big fears.

One giant paw was outstretched, eyes trained on the drifting pup as she would a fish. Leaning forward, she waited patiently, ignoring the pounding of her heart which thrummed violently in her ears. It was in this moment, Malachi was convinced, that if she could not scoop the pup up with her paw nor snatch her up in her jaws.. she would have to dive down into the deep, cold, black unknown.

OOC: Sorry for the horrible delay... and crappy short post Sad

Coughing and sputtering she spiraled down the creek.. at least that was how it felt. She didn’t know which was up which was down, although when she resurfaced for air she knew she had to stay up, but that wasn’t what the water had in mind for her. Her heart pounded as she moved further and futher away, when something hit her, she clinged to whatever it was for dear life, whimpering and finally finding something she should fear because in no way would she be able to control herself in these waters. She clung to the thing tightly to find it was a big fuzzy arm. Looking up she saw a big huge looming face over her, it was a monster, and this one looked like it would eat her. She let a quiet gasp out before fainting. This was all too much for the little pup... upon losing her father, her family, she also lost her sense of ability to know she could handle the world, because this instance showed her she couldn’t.

Don't worry about it love <3

She waited patiently, and a strange but somehow familiar instinct kicked in as her eyes scanned the water for the drifting wolf. Paw was poised and at the ready, her entire body awakening to something ancient, as if this was something Malachi was born to do. Concentration swept her large body as the pup came closer, the waters nearly pushing her into Mala's paw as the creature was instantly scooped up like a fish. Almost without missing a beat, Malachi drew the corybantic pup up onto the rock, before gently snatching her up by the nape of her neck, knowing all too well from her past how to carry smaller wolves.

With the pup swinging freely in her mouth, now, the shaggy female turned and glanced at the water around her. Her damp legs shook from more than just the cold, staring wide eyed into the frantic moving waters. Swallowing hard, the female knew she had to be more careful with the extra little bundle that she now carried. Slowly, Mala turned around to face the bank and made a leap for the nearest rock, leaping off of it onto the bank as soon as her paws landed on its surface.

Safely away from the water, Malachi set the pup gently on the ground, waddling a few feet away to shake her fur, head to tail, of the aquatic nuisance. The large beast took a deep breath, though it did not help to calm her. Large fur expanded as she finished shaking off, finding that her breathing was still ragged. One instinct replaced another, as she tried to suppress her fears and turn to give the furry bundle a look-over. "Are.. you.. alright?" Malachi said in between breaths, shuffling up towards the young wet creature and, without much hesitation, nosing her side inquiringly.

WC: 333 OOC: woo look at that awesome word count lol!!!!

All that happened during the time she was in the water and she was lifted out and carried to safety was lost to Eclipse, no the next thing she remembered just before she was scooped up was the looming face of a monster. When she heard a kinds, sweet voice come to her, however she felt her senses coming back, coughing, She didn't look at the animal for her eyes burned.

"Mmm mmm thank you ma'am!"

She said rubbing her face against her foreleg, trying to get the sting out of her eyes before looking up at Malachi, she'd just saved her life, and the little girl was thankful for her, but when she saw the bear she jumped back in alarm. A little squeak came out of her mouth as she looked up at the looming bear. What was it? Was it going to eat her, though she asked if she was ok, normally she'd never ask her food if she was ok, she lay frozen in the grass, still sopping wet, shivering and confused. Her blue/purple eyes wide in fear as she wondered what this beast was going to do with her.

"P-please don't hurt me, please...."

She pleaded, that was all she could do... and she knew how weak she really was at this, it made her think of home... but she'd rather be eaten by bears than have her heart broken again. Well whatever bears were, she'd heard of them in stories, but had never seen one, but still, right now it didn't matter because there was a monster there in front of her, and though she was big she gave the same type of feeling Viking had, and she'd though he had been a monster, but she wasn't about to keep an open mind right now, too many things had just happened for her little brain to concieve.

Niiiiice.

Rounded ears moved awkwardly on her giant head at the mannerisms of the pup, who had just called her "ma'am" as her back was turned to shake herself. A light chuckle burst forth from a muzzle equal in hue, before turning to check on the young female. "Please, call me Ma--" But the shaggy female paused as the pup jumped backwards, and Malachi's heart sank back in her wide chest. She had thought, after the initial scare with Denali, and the genuine acceptance of Magnolia, that her fear of being around pups again had vanished. However, she swallowed her assumption as soft honey eyes stared back into wide, frightened ones.

"What? Hurt you? No, I--" But there was nothing the large chocolate and cream creature could say, as she shook her head, finding herself frightened by her own height. Shuffling a few steps back and away from the young girl, Malachi found herself pressing her damp body into the earth submissively, as if wanting to sink into it and disappear completely.

"Oqoti.. apoqonmul," she muttered in a reassuring voice into the dark dirt. This did not assure even the great beast, however, as her eyes avoided the terrified stare of the other. "-I was only trying to help," Mala finally said, finishing her sentence with honey gaze still towards the earth.

OOC: we can has another viking thread if you wanna too Big Grin she'll hound him as well Rawr!

The first moment's shock was over, especially with the incredulous look that the creature gave Eclipse. Her breathing slowed as Malachi spoke, her words were soft, even the ones that Eclipse couldn't understand. The submissive posture was strange to the girl, as she was only a pup she didn't have any authority over anyone.

"W-what are you?"

She asked cautiously, the bear was large, and the large fat ears and long fat muzzle, the round body as well as the clawed feet were strange to the girl and she knew that this was no wolf. She tried to think of any descriptions of an animal like this, but even the few pictures she'd seen in books did not remind her of anything. She felt less fearful when the monster stated in a calm voice that she was trying to help, rather than being mauled by the beast. She just didn't know how to react to her though, but if she could accept viking, for all he was a huge ferocious wolf-monster, couldn't she accept this other monster too?

For suuuure. I hope Eclipse is wandering anywhere around Anathema? ;o We can talk about it over PM or AIM (when I get home).

The large beast winced as the pup spoke again, hearing time and time again the same question. Why did wolves bother to even ask? She didn't look that different, did she? A nervous laugh came forth, trying to brush off the uneasiness of the direct inquiry. "I'm a wolf, just like you.. only.. bigger," she spoke, as she rose again to all fours, dirt clinging to her damp underside. "My mother told me my ears and tail shrunk because I'm very big." A small smile followed her words, remembering fondly of her mother back in the tribe. A pang in her heart made Malachi realize that she'd never see her again, however, but her presence, her spirit, was always near.

"Who are you, little one?" Mala inquired, almost in a motherly tone. If there was anything Denali had taught her other than getting over her fears, is realizing how much she missed looking after young wolves. Rolling back onto her rump, Malachi sat and stared down at the young female. Eyes softened as she stared at the damp, shivering pup, feeling an extreme need to comfort her. "Where's your mother? And how did you fall in there?" The questions rolled off her tongue thickly, and a massive paw rose to point at the steady moving creek as she spoke.

Out of Character

WC: 230 OOC: Sorry for the delay I still love you!!!

In Character

Eclipse didn’t believe her. She wasn’t one to be as naive, but she also wasn’t going to argue, the woman saved her after all, but she did give Malachi an unconvinced scowl. She normally spoke her mind, but thought better of it now, maybe the monster could help her, just like Viking had. Except in a different way. She remembered what Malachi was saying before she freaked out.

“Thank you Ma for saving me..."

She bowed her head, thinking that was the monsters’ name.

"My name is Eclipse"

She introduced herself, shaking again to make sure the water stayed off her fur, but she was shaking, not out of fear, but because she was cold. She looked up at Malachi’s question and scowled thinking of what to answer her final question She shrugged. That was true enough at that particular moment she didn’t know where her mother was and she wasn’t lying to her, so no one could get mad.

“I was drinking, and I slipped in”

The girl answered matter of factly. That was the truth, and she would learn from this experience too. Then again if she were on two lets that wouldn’t have ever happened. She thought with a sour look on her face... if a lot of things were different she wouldn’t be as hurt on the inside either.

This post is all kinds of awful :x

Despite the awkward introduction, Malachi gave a small, warm smile as the pup introduced herself. It melted away, however, at the sight of the pup shaking and shivering. The giant female wanted to take care of her, to warm her, but there was fear was still in between them, and so she remained in her sitting position. "That's a very pretty name," she interjected. Honey eyes watched intently as the puppy scowled yet again, this time at the very last question that Mala asked of the young female.

Eyes gazed off into the river, one ear flicking in curiosity. It occurred to her that Eclipse never answered the question about her own mother, but decided against asking it again. "Where did you come from?" Her attention fell back down to the pup, one claw idly scratching her large belly. "I can take you back.. home." The last word was a bit of a stress for the grizzled female, swallowing hard in attempts to forget her own home; how she was forced from it. Hopefully this pup wasn't an outcast, either, surely such a sweet young thing had parents who missed her.

Her arms fell back down to her sides, her soft belly exposed - warm and welcoming. The wind picked up for a moment, the cold adding onto the pairs damp fur. Mala remained looking at the pup, a soft expression crossing her lightly colored features. "But first, I think we should get you warmed up."

OOC: <3 Poor eclipse. feelin sorry for herself!

Malachi’s comment on Eclipse’s name only passed over her ears, she was normally one to pick up on details like that to find that she liked being called pretty but right now... She didn’t think she had the heart to it. Her ears laid back as she turned ehr head, refusing the next question, then Malachi said the words Eclipse didn’t want to hear.

“NO! I don’t wanna go back, I don’t wanna be hurt again, you can’t do that!”

The last words were a blur as she started crying and her pudgy little legs ran in the other direction, she knew that though she was small and quick, the huge monster of a wolf.... though she didn’t believe it... would be able to catch up to her, but even as she started running it didn’t matter, the puppy tripped over her own feet and fell in the brush, the dried leaves clinging to her wet sopping body. She started crying, she didn’t want to go back, she didn’t want them hurting her, her heart couldn’t take someone else leaving. Her daddy had been the worst of all, she loved him so much, her mommy was so distant now that she knew she’d be left to another heartbreak. Ma didn’t know what she was talking about, she didn’t know what Eclipse was going through and she wouldn’t take the girl back home! There was no home.

Bear hugs cure all.

There was something in how the girl reacted in Malachi's questioning that wasn't quite right, though the giant female was careful with what she said and how she acted around the shivering wet pup. Her own malachite-laced eyes widened suddenly, as something she said set the pup off into a frenzy, without premonish. Muzzle was slightly agape as she watched Eclipse leap up from the ground, as if something had burned her, and Malachi's ears pushed back against her gigantic head as she heard young girl spat.

"Wait, I didn't-" But her words were quickly interrupted when the little thing turned and bolted for the forest, away from Malachi and out of view. The cream colored female rose just as quickly on all fours, large body bounding forward on sturdy legs to chase after the pup. "Enqa'latl. Mesgei', Eclipse!" Her words cried out to the pup in a desperate fashion, but the young girl didn't go far. Even though she saw the little bundle fall over, even for the grizzly female's weight she would have caught the runaway girl.

Her form halted over the pup that was tangled in her own limbs and a menagerie of leaves. Her shadow covered the earth as she sat down among the brush and looked down upon the girl. Hurt by going back to her own pack? Her own family? Malachi understood that better than anyone else. But this girl was young, and there was no way her own parents would have banished her. Leaning down towards Eclipse, her short muzzle brushed away leaves that clung to the wolf pup. "I'm sorry." Her voice was barely above a whisper as she cleaned the pup up. Then with her front paw she pulled the pup into her light-colored belly, in a comforting hug of sorts. Muzzle still at the level of the pup, Mala simply held the little one there for a moment. "Gi'l mala," her voice was as soft and as sweet as honey, though in that moment the large female wasn't sure if it was for the pup or herself.
