They will finally meet… =) WotD+1 (Praxis)Word Count - 400

The sun had set not too long ago, using the Halcyon Mountains as a final retreat point to send up flares of dusk beauty. Now, the moon ruled brightly above and let the night air play around at its own will. Jaden walked calmly along as irritation calmed most of his mind. The meeting he had held with Nadia did a fine job of souring the Optime’s mood. The annoyance of being surprised was enough to get him in a bad mood, but the fact that she had been coyote was plainly aggravating. Why does it seem that the coyotes in this area all have such big heads? The Alaskan wondered to himself. ”Someone needs to show those damn dogs who is in charge,”He growled darkly, finishing his thought out loud.

But, soon enough the male began to lose his mood as he walked out of the Dampwoods and found a shoreline. Stopping on the sand, Jaden looked out on the ocean as it lapped up the beach toward him. Rocks peppered the sandy area and moonlight reflected nicely on the water. It reminded Jaden of the life he had left not so long ago. Alaska’s beaches could not be replicated to him, but anything near to it was comforting. A regular praxis he had held dear to in earlier time was to look at the sea every night. It was a way to help him contend with what he used to do. Innocent lives bare a heavy burden when taken free of good reason. Jaden didn’t morn what he was though. Nothing would change what he had done and he never expected to be completely free of guilt for it, but it was how he had been raised. It was what he understood as right. Only now would he truly scrutinize himself for enforcing Uva Atka’s blood thirsty fascist beliefs. He knew there was more to life now. Being on the other end of their attacks was almost enlightening, besides the loss of all that was dear to him.

Jaden brushed some of the more uncomfortable pebbles and rocks from the sand under his paws and sat. With his legs crossed and resting his jaw on his folded paws, he let his mind dissolve in the salty water. He ignored all the little thoughts competing for his attention and let time begin to drift idly by.

Jaden does. "Jaden speaks." Jaden thinks.

Clare had been stalking the wolf a head of her for some time now. They were so.. weird. The way it walked on two legs. She prefured to stay on all four. She had no plan, she just watched. She watched as it shifted it weight from one back leg to the other. Its steps were soundless, if she hadn't been down wind from him she would have never known it was around. Clare had been waking up from her nap in the in some rocks just above the beach. Safe from any wandering eyes. When she had woken up to its smell, she figured she would check it out. Oh how they were so weird.

Clare nearly laughed out loud when it spoke of teaching Dogs a leason. She really couldn't agree more. With her tail flicking back and forth silently she watched it make its way down to the beach and take a seat. She layed there for a while. Hiding behind some rocks, belly to the ground, a silent killer. But luck for it she wasn't in the mood tonight for naughty things.

After a few moments she began to get bored. She thought it wouldn't hurt to say hello. Maybe scare the fur of it? That brought a smile to her face. Lifting herself up from her hiding place she walked over to the wolf slowly, she wanted to be very silent but she couldn't get the image of the woulf screaming in fear out of her head and her laugher got the best of her. It was only a purr but it was loud enough that it should hear her.

It wasn’t long that Jaden sat undisturbed. The sound of the sea’s soft churning hid the stranger’s footsteps in the sand. Only a few moments before her purr had he actually noticed something strange, which is why he didn’t jump out of his skin. Not to say it didn’t surprise the Alaskan. The feline sound made his heart jump to high speed and his mind suddenly snap into focus, but the only evidence of his surprise was a quick swish of his tail in the sand. “First coyotes, now cats,” while he growled this darkly, his right hand slowly found his dagger and he drew the weapon slowly with a barely audible metalic sound.

When no attack came after the initial purr, Jaden slowly stood and turned to the feline. Still holding his dagger in hand, he analyzed her for a second. Before now, Jaden had never been so close to a feline. His old pack used to chase the cats off their territory, but that had never been the Optime’s job. Usually a group of non-luperci wolves would band together to get rid of just one. The assassin could see now why more than one canine had been needed, even from Uva Atka, to fight off cats like her. Its body was muscular and lean with threatening claws, but it had a rather odd look in its eye: Entertainment. Jaden was glad she had not attacked, but was still a bit soured at being surprised again. “It isn’t smart to sneak up on an armed wolf, cat.” He breathed and watched her for a reply.

Jaden does. "Jaden speaks." Jaden thinks.

The only sign of his fear was a light movement of his tail. It was a slight bushy thing. This only made her purr more. He tail was long and had short fur, along with the rest of her fur texture. Those types of tails must have been hard to handle. Hard to clean. With that she remember she was due for a cat bath that she much needed. But she told herself she would get to that later. Clare watched as the Dog pulled a dagger out. She wonder to herself why they had begun to use such things. Were they not able to use their teeth and claws no more? Had the change made them weak or just have they lost the true way of fighting? Either way she would no threat in this Dog. "Oh put it away. I didn't come here to start naughty things."

She watched him stand on his two back legs. He was quite taller than her. More lean in figure and was.. Well a whole different type of creature. He seemed a bit loder than her but that said nothing. Age was only a simple number to her. Dogs were such weird things to her. After she had sized him up she replied with only a sly smile and a few words. "It isn't smart to let your guard down, Dog." Clare simply laughed. She thought this Dog kinda funny. A bit to tense. But funny.

The cat still seemed entertained by Jaden and that was irritating and the way she spoke to him held an arrogant tone. This being the his first meeting with one of her species on a more or less even standpoint was begging to shape his opinion of cats in a very similar direction as coyotes. But as she spoke he realized she didn't mean any harm. If she had, there would likely be claw and teeth marks in him already. So he slowly slipped his dagger back into it's sheath. “If you don't want to fight, what exactly is the reason for you sneaking up on me?” Everyone told Jaden cougars and wolves don't get along often. Why would he believe this cat held any intentions that were out of the ordinary.

Her comment about letting his guard down hit dead true for the assassin. Before he came to this territory, he would have never let his guard down in an unclaimed land. Now it seemed like he was being surprised everyday by someone who luckily meant no harm. Time after time he told himself he would pay more attention. He had no home though. That must have been it. It's impossible to stay alert all the time. Without somewhere to relax he had to drop his guard every so often for the sake of his own sanity. “You are very right about that stranger,” Jaden sighed, “It seems I do it all to often now a days.”

Jaden does. "Jaden speaks." Jaden thinks.

Clare smiled at the dog. It was a toothy type of smile, a smile hidden with all kinds of naughty ideas. But she would resist today. Today she would be a nice feline and enjoy the company of this dog that stood before her. "It is what I do love, I sneak. It is in my blood to be silent." What she spoke of was true. Her mother and father had taught her to be a silent as the wind. And if she slipped up, she was in huge trouble as always. She could hardly remember them too well. Their looks had drifted out of her memory but what they taught her still remained. That was all that really mattered. That she learned some thing useful from them while they were still around. One memory that always haunted her was of their death. This sent chill bumps down her spine ans she gave a slight shake of her body to pushed it way. To this day she could still recall their screams. She some times her them in her dreams calling to her, calling for her to save them. They were always her worst nightmares.

Clare tuned back into the dog and nodded her head when he spoke. "If my parents were still around and they caught me off my guard, they would have killed me." Her tone was serious and she ment every word. Her mother would have slit her open and gave no second thouht about it. Would have not even shed a tear for her. She some time questioned if her mother had loved her at all. There was never times she was able to cuddle up next to her for warmth or was given any loving words. Clare tilted her head to the side and stared past the dog of into openess. She wondered what it would be like if they were still around.

The feline seemed relaxed when Jaden asked for her purpose and gave an unexpected answer. In her blood? He though and his ears flattened for a second. He wasn’t happy about being snuck up on, but didn’t push that through to her any more. Why bother whining when he should have been paying attention anyway? After she spoke, her eyes seemed to get lost on another subject for a second. The lively green almost fading as her mind wandered. Her eyes still watched him but there was a lack of attention in them that was almost difficult to notice. She shifted her body and that seemed to help her come back to they’re conversation. The comment about her parents seemed rather harsh, but Jaden distinctly remembered his own father’s harsh training methods. With cold eyes, Mathis would say, “Jaden, if I beat you this day it will be your last” and Jaden never let him win. By any means necessary he would disarm his father. The older man never scolded him for it and never got angry, just colder when he lost. Only once had he ever told Jaden he was good at something. After meeting his mate, the Alpha admitted he was proud and that Jaden’s training was complete. Nothing compared to the pride he the dark optime felt that day. So why, when he looked at it now, did it seem so depressing?

“We might have had similar parents, you and I, stranger. My name is Jaden. As long as you don’t plan on trying to make me cat food, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” The wolf returned her toothy smile kindly and leaned on a tree. He might as well strike up a conversation with the feline. He had never had the chance to probe one before now anyway.“So what brings you to these parts, miss…?”

Clare nearly laughed out loud when he spoke of them have parents alike. She always knew her parents were unlike any other. There was no way in hell his could have been the same as hers. He would be more.. More like her. She could tell his parents must have shown him so sort of love here and there. He was kind. She was different. She didn't know how to show love or be truly kind. She was Clare, the killer, the Cougar. Her whole family had been that way and she accepted it. It didn't bother her to be marked as a killer, made her feel like she had a reason to be in this world. A puprose. "So you may think.. I am Clare, and have no fear dog. I am not hungry at the moment you are safe, for now." Clare deepend her pur and lurked closer to the creature as he leaned against a tree. For a moment she thought about leaping to the lowest limb and resting there but she figured that he would have a dagger in her gut for such fast movements. Instead she choose a near by flat rock to lay her head on. "Miss? Oh how formal, I am used to being called many other things but never Miss." How wonderfuly nice this dog was. Earning his safety points she figured. "Well then Sir, I am a wander. No real home. Always on the move. You understand ehh?" Clare tilted her head to the side then started to move her maw once more. "What brings you here? You look like the type to be in a park or sorts."

So that cat has a name. Jaden thought for a second. He found her aura and the way she acted sort of amusing. There was no doubt to him that if she wanted to attack him, Clare would be quite a capable enemy, but he doubted she could easily make him a meal. Her assurance that he was safe simply because she wasn’t hungry tested the other assassin’s patience a bit, but he let it go with a confidant huff and grin. He wasn’t in a mood to force his dominance and risk his life. He did wonder whether all cats were as proud. The quality was not one that would have stood unchecked if Jaden was in a foul mood.

Jaden’s smile broadened when Clare referred to him as Sir. He had never been greeted in such a way. This cougar carried an entertaining conversation. “I do understand the feeling of having no set place to be, but other than that, I am oblivious to the life of a feline such as you, Clare. You are the first I have ever truly met.” He decided to let her know in hopes that it could help the conversation if he decided to ask odd questions about the way she acted.

Clare’s question was a bit unanticipated. Since he had failed at killing the Alpha of Cour des Miracles, no one had asked him about his purpose for coming to the territory. Before he had tried, people questioning him usually got a defensive and elusive answer that was false and bared little information on Jaden’s literal intentions. What should he tell her? It no longer mattered if people knew what he was sent here to do because he had failed and been surprisingly spared of retaliation. Yet, why tell others he was a trained killer? Such a fact usually inspired people to avoid or mistrust the wolf. Since he had renounced that life there was no need to pretend he meant good. “I came here to meet a friend, but ended up being unable to find him,” Jaden lied the same way he had to Conor, “Now I don’t have anywhere to call home, so I am a wanderer just like you.”

The sort to be in a pack? Jaden wondered about this for a moment. He had given joining a pack some thought, but which one to chose was difficult. He hadn’t met Phoenix Valley, or Crimson dreams wolves yet, and most others had at least one person or more in them who had fought with Jaden. The only hospitable one for him now was Dahlia de Mia. “I have been thinking of giving pack life a try though. Do you know a particular pack that has shown you kindness? One you wouldn’t mind being an ally to? Or are you the type to say no to an alliance with ‘dogs’?”

Jaden does. "Jaden speaks." Jaden thinks.
