Seeking a friend or two in a still new environment
#1
Though Roran had been a member of Pheonix Valley for a while now, he still felt like an outsider, like he really didnt belong there yet. He spent most of his time exploring or sleep, as many pups did when there was nobody to play with. He was usually a young energetic pup, but lately he was a bit lazy and enjoyed laying around under the tree's, or on the grass letting the sun to make his white fur shine. He was content with this life, and the fact that he had a new mother. For only a short time before this, Jace had agreed to be his mother, this had for a short time caused him to be very happy. Though he had lost contact with her and everyone else in the pack.

Over the last few days he had simply been wandering about, or sleeping in a small hollow tree he had discovered. His new life was comfortable as he wasn't forced to struggle for survival in a hostile environment, as he did before he had found the pack.

Roran laid in a patch of tall grass is a small clearing in the forest. The sun was high in the sky and caused his recently river washed coat to gleam like new fallen snow. He was awake though he was completely content to simply lay there and be a bum. He had gone hunting earlier that day and had caught a rabbit, which was the perfect meal for someone his age and size. He let out a long howl of greetings and a request for friendship, hoping that any other wolves in the area would be kind enough to come and play with him if they weren't busy. He didn’t know if anyone was even close to his position, though he was hopeful.

Ookami's ears perked up at a howl floating across the wind. He smiled, it wasn't familiar. He turned to the direction that the howl came from and walked slowly towards it. He was in no real rush to see what ha made the call. It wasn't a howl of distress or injury. It was that of requesting a friend. Ookami believed that one of the most important factors in a good friendship was patience. So if the wolf who had called out could wait for his arrival then it was a sign that the friendship would be good. Ookami let out a series of barks, letting the source of the howl know he was on his way.

The sun was high and it shone on his golden pelt. He took in a deep breath as he breathed in the sun's rays. His thick fur warmed as he walked and it was hot to the touch now. His coat seemed to attract all the hot beams from the sun. This was not the first time this ha happened. He always seemed to drag in the sun with his coat. He shrugged, he was a day person. Maybe this happened to all day people. He smiled to himself. What a beautiful day to make a new friend. The idea of having a new friend seemed to finally register in his mind and he sprung into a bouncy trot.

His limp was pretty much gone. It showed through every once in a while, though one was lucky to have such a keen eye. A bandage still accompanied his leg. He changed it every night before he went to sleep and again in the morning before he set out on his day's quest. It started to fall off as he continued on and Ookami rolled his eyes. He must not have wrapped it tight enough. He stopped and used his teeth to peel the wrappings from his leg.

He started to lope, thinking that he kept the wolf waiting for long enough. When a white male came into view Ookami cocked his head. The smell of Phoenix Valley was not new, but Ookami didn't remember ever seeing this wolf. He shrugged, oh well. It didnt really matter. "Hello.. I am Ookami. I don't believe we have met before."
#3
He continued to lay there for a while, wondering if anyone was close enough to even hear his howl. His negative thoughts vanished as he heard a wolf bark in reply to his howl. His tail began to wag quickly, though he refused to get up yet from his comfortable little spot. Though once the other wolf came into view he was up on his feet before one could blink. He barked happily and ran over to him. He sniffed for a moment before hopping back and barking at him, lowering himself so his but was sticking into the air, his tail wagged wildly.

He didnt recognise the male, but he was obviously not going to hurt him, as the scent of the balley was all over him, he was clearly a pack mate. He smiled at the wolfs greetings and barked again. "Hello, my name is Roran" He says, his smile seemingly going to split his face in half. "And the reason you haven't seen me around is because im still reletivaly new here, and spend most of my time exploring" He states and then lowers his behind and sits down. Though this forced his tail to skid across the ground. His smile seemingly became larger as he simply sat there and smiled at him for a moment. A small fly buzzed over and landed on Roran's nose. He looked at it cross-eyed as he forget the other wolf was there. He shook his head and began to chase the small insect around the clearing, barking at it angrily. Though it was painingly obvious that he was playing.

After a few minutes of running after the fly, he remembered that there was another wolf and came to a stop by him. He smiled once more, his face splitting smile. "Wanna play?" He asks suddenly, his tail yet again wagging wildly.

Ookami laughed at the energy this wolf carried. "Nice to meet you. Hmmm... Exploring huh?" Ookami grinned, this was something that he had done when he first began to stay in Phoenix Valley. He had felt like a pet though, not helping out with anything, but he figured no one wanted anything to do with him anyway. Oh well.. he still enjoyed the occasional exploring that he did. He laughed again as the young wold chased around a bug, seemingly forgetting that he was there.

Roran came running back to Ookami and he took a small step back, not wanting to get run over. He laughed again as the male asked him to play. Ookami paused for a moment. He didn't believe that he had anything really important to do today."Sure" He ducked down on the ground, his butt high in the air. His tail wagged quickly, it had been a while since he had played with anyone. He was still young and playing was something that was very lacking in his life at the moment. He growled and snarled, he hoped that Roran didn't think he meant these sounds. He barked and lept forward, biting down gently on the wolf's ear. He leapt forward again, this time over the wolf and took off running. His long legs carried him far and fast and when he looked back at Roran he stopped. He wasn't tired but his breath came fast. Probably in happiness. He barked and tore forward towards Roran. He changed his direction just seconds before a collision could occur. He laughed and stopped a ways away, waiting for Roran to catch up.

The woman was once again engaging in her favorite past time of stalking the pack lands like a black cloud of depression, anger and hatred. She hadn't eaten for a week or so, the ribs pushing out from her stomach and vertebrae out of her back were testament to this. Patched of her fur were missing and the usually fluffy and vibrant coat was lifeless and dead against her skin. Her dull eyes regarded the path ahead of her with disinterest and boredom, as her relentless pacing continued on and on, soon she would collapse from the damage she was dealing herself. The fatigue and restlessness would eventually catch up with the troubled multi colored female and when it did Jace would pay a heavy price for ignoring the basic needs of her body.

The hybrid's ears flicked with a small glimmer of interest as a howl reached her person and she vaguely recognised it as the son she had adopted a while ago. She felt a dull pain in her chest as she remembered her empty stomach and the small lives that she had failed to protect and wondered if she was worthy enough to call Roran her son. Jace changed her direction and moved towards the howl, slipping through the underbrush as silently as she could with narely a crackle of leaves or a snapping of the twigs, a ghost in her own home. Eventually she came upon playful barks and growls. The empty emotionless woman stayed in the brush line watching with her dim disinterested eyes as her son and the man she had saved from death in the snow storm played like 4 week old pups.

She had no wish to join in with the play but she would watch them and make sure no harm would come to them.

Upon the male sticking his butt in the air and wagging his tail, Roran had done the same and barked happily. At that exact moment the fly returned and landed on his head. Just as he was about to attack it once more, the male charged him and he spun quickly, making it so that the male just barely bit his ear. He barked in laughter as the male ran a ways away, then back towards him. He steadied himself and when he was about to turn to miss him, he leapt forward and tackled him.

At this exact moment, the fly returned and buzzed around his head, temporarily hypnotized by the insect, he forgot about the other wolf and shook his head wildly, trying to get the fly off. This allowed the male to get the distance away as he dislodged the fly from his head. He spun and barked at him, charging at him with his tongue playfully hanging out of his mouth. He jumped over him with the skill of a wild wolf and landed on the other side. Before the other male could turn, he jumped forward and latched onto his tail playfully.
#7
Ookami laughed as Roran was once again distracted from him. As he went to run away again Roran had latched onto his tail. He wagged it furiously, trying to knock the wolf off. He laughed and spun around, tackling Roran down to the ground. He was ontop and he laughed again. He was careful not to hurt him but bit at him and growled like a playful young pup. As he was playing a familiar scent drifted to his nose. It was Jace. His ears flicked up and his tail wagged happily. But as the wolf did not appear his spirits began to dampen. He turned his head and caught her in the bushes. She was hidden and obviously didn't want to be seen so he went back to biting at Roran as if nothing had been there at all. In the small glimpse he had caught of Jace he was saddened. She looked awful. She was skinny and missing hair. His heart hurt. The wolf used to be so full of life, and now she seemed like a walking dead person. He sighed but continued to play, not wanting Roran to see her. She obviously didn't want to be seen.

He growled again and bit down gently on the scruff of Roran's neck. He growled and barked, the sound muffled from the hair that was in his mouth. He laughed and rolled over, putting Roran on top now. He laughed and rolled again. This time when he reached the top he jumped away. He panted happily and waiting for Roran to make a move now. Oh how he wished that Jace would step out of the bushes, normal and beautiful again. How he wished that he could take away her pain. His dear friend was sad. And there seemed to be nothing he could do. He wished Jace would jump out and tackle him and that she would be full of life. But it wouldn't happen.
#8
Roran barked back when the male bit on the scruff of his neck. When the male rolled and he was on top, he growled playfully and bit back. The fly continued to buzz around his head as he played with his new friend. He growled and bit back at the other male, barking with laughter. When the male rolled off him and stepped away, still looking to play, he rolled to his feet, his eyes trailing over the surroundings quickly. He was about to jump at the male when he stopped dead, all sense of play and happiness vanishing from his eyes.

He sniffed just to make sure he wasn't losing his young mind, he recognized the scent and he turned slowly. His eyes finally landed on Jace, his adopted mother. The last time he had seen her, she had seemed so happy and lovable, but now she looked as if she was at deaths door. His heart sank upon seeing his mother like this, simply seeing her in this condition brought tears to his eyes and he swallowed a lump that had formed in his throat. He didnt wish to see his mother like this, but he couldn't look away, he desperately wished that what he was seeing was just some kind of illusion, but he realised that it wasn't.

He began to shake in saddness, as if her depression and sadness had transfered to him.

blagh muse death

The woman's wish to keep elusive and hidden was not answered and soon both males turned to look at her body partly concealed in the bushes. The hybrid was torn, she wanted to join them in play even though it would cause her pain both physical and emotionally but she didn't think she could. Death was with her now, it followed her around like a faithful dog, sitting at her heels. The sable male's attack had been horrible and tragic and all sorts of words she couldn't and didn't want to think of, Jace would have her revenge on Lucifer even if it cost her her life too.

The woman stood from the floor, brushing the leaves and dirt from her self and took a hesitant step forwards out of the brush and into the daylight. And then another, until she was walking slowly towards the pair as they stared at her disgusting broken form that still hadn't recovered from its premature birthing.

Roran stood frozen, both by shock, disgust, and anger at whoever had done this to his new mother. He shook himself physically and ran to her until he was within a foot of her. He stopped and looked up at her, saddness obvious in his eyes. "What happened to you?" He asks, as tears began to leak down his cheeks.

The fly returned once more, but this time he completely ignored it, intent on his mother. He was furious at whoever had done this to his mom. Though no matter what she looked like, he would always love her. he forgot about getting an answer to his question and instead rubbed against her leg, closing his eyes and wishing the tears away.

Ookami's heart dropped to the floor when Jace stepped out. He was happy she was alive but she seemed to be in horrible condition. What could he do to help his poor friend? She needed help. "Hello Jace." His voice was low and was drenched in sadness. He looked at her carefully, as if she would break. What had happened to her? He hadn't seen her in a very long time.. had so much happened to her since their last meeting when he had first seen her bulging belly? Clearly it had. He let out a small sigh. He wanted to run to her and take her back to the past. When everything had been okay. But that wasn't going to happen. No matter how much Ookami wanted it to.

"How are you Jace?" He knew that she wasn't doing well. He just wanted to hear her voice. Would it be the same? Or would her voice be dragged down and covered with the same thing that covered her appearance. He closed his eyes for a minute. He pictured her happy smile and beautiful sight. When he opened them that is how he saw her. He no longer saw her for what she looked like right now. He saw her for the real her. He smiled at her. It was filled with the friendly love he had for her. He hoped this sight for her would never go away. That it would stay until that is actually how she looked. But within a few blinks of his eyes, her present sight was back.

Ookami looked at Roran. He knew that Jace and Temo had adopted him. Her sight was clearly heartbreaking for him. He saw the tears well up in his eyes and spilled over. And soon his own eyes were filled. He blinked away the tears. Although Roran had ran up to Jace, Ookami was unable to move. Like he had told himself long ago... he had to be strong for Jace. He would be strong for Jace.

omfg i suck so much D:

The damaged woman stopped near by as her adopted son ran to meet her. She looked down upon his shorter frame from the height of her optime and sighed silently wishing she could give him more than what she could offer. Shrinking down into herself and using up energy the could ill afford to the multi hued hybrid shifted into her Secui form, now her head was only just taller than Roran's and a lot smaller than Ookami's. She wrapped a thin wristed paw awkwardly around his neck and hugged him close to her leg. She opened her mouth to answer his question and found the words stuck in her throat.

Her eyes met with Ookami's golden ones, "Lucifer happened and my pups are dead. Her voice was devoid of emotion and was quiet and sombre. The tears of her son and the ones Ookami tried to hide did nothing to chip at the ice surrounding her personality now.
#13
Roran continued to cry for a few minutes, not moving from the comfort of his mother's embrace. Though she was injured and her personality had turned to ice, he refused to leave her. He rubbed against her slightly, his tears stopping as his tail hung low. "No matter what ever happens, i wont let anyone hurt you ever again mom" He says, pulling his head away some, and licking her cheek.

It was true that he had been wanting to see her for a while now since he had gotten here and been alone for some time even inside the pack. Though she looked as if she might die at any moment, he would never leave her side, and he would try anything within his power to keep her safe and out of harms way, this was now his life's promise.

No matter what happened, no matter what the threat to his own life might be, he mentally vowed to protect his mother to the best of his abilities as long as he still drew breath. He would stregnthen himself, make himself more a warrior so that he might protect her from the evil Lucifer that she had just mentioned.

I will never leave your side” He says, as his tears stopped altogether, the face that now occu[ied him was one of anger, and of solid resolve.
#14
Jace's words were cold, and Ookami's feelings immediately turned to anger at the mention of Lucifer. His heart lurched again at the mention of her pup's death. "Oh Jace... I am so sorry." He walked forward towards her and touched her cheek ever so gently with his nose. He felt as if his big structure would break her small fragile one. He was touched by Roran's words. If only he knew what Lucifer was capable of. But he shouldn't know, he was only a pup. "Whatever I can do for you Jace..." His voice cracked slightly and he shook his head.

He knew though, there was nothing he could do for her. He couldn't bring back her pups.. he couldn't go back in time and kill Lucifer before he killed Jace's spirit. No matter how many times the thought of going back in time entered his head he was just more disappointed when he realized that it wasn't possible. He let a few tears stream from his eyes. They were mingled with sadness and anger from Lucifer. The devil would pay. Ookami would be sure of it. He clenched his jaw. Never again would he let the beast enter his sight and leave unharmed. Never again would the black male step foot in Phoenix Valley. Never

The cries of her son continued on for a few minutes and he comforted himself against her leg while the female who had been so full of life stared over his head with dead eyes that hardly saw anything before her. Her head turned downwards slightly as her adopted son began to speak to her in a firm voice, her blue eye looked over him and she dully noted he had gained some height and weight since she had last seen him as well as muscle, he was growing up into a man from a teenager and she was missing it. The woman flinched gently as Ookami's soft nose touched her cheek, the contact was unexpected but not unwelcome from her larger then normal friend.

She looked between the two of them slowly as though fast movement would make her hurt, the friend who would kill to save her and the son who would die to protect her and something deep within her dead unemotional shell cracked, the she wolf twitched although it was barely unnoticeable and shut her eyes against a sudden pain in the left side of her face when she reopened them, although she didn't know it there was a thin band of black color that cut the blue of her left eye in half separating the two halves from each other, it traveled through her pupil and out the other side of the back hole, her amber eye remained untouched and normal.

Jace sucked in a huge breath, the biggest she'd taken in a long time and exhaled it with a loud sob. Startled by the sound that came out of her Jace jerked away from her son, loosing the bodily contact. A dull throb started up in her chest where her heart should be and with no warning suddenly increased in intensity enough to make her stagger under its force. Her mind was racing through everything that had happened from when it had begun to go wrong, the first time she had met Lucifer, her eyes snapped back and forth. The crack in her shell widened and more emotions came rushing out, filling her up until she was sure she would explode with it all. All of it poured out to ravage at her mind; love, pain, hurt, rage, fury, loss, fear, remorse, torment, bitterness, despair, depression, guilt, shame, longing and many others she could not even begin to name. All burned deeply upon her soul, leaving dents and welts that bled and hurt.

The female took another deep breath and then began to cry, at last feeling the pain of the death of her pups. Tears streamed down her face and loud sobs burst from her chest. Jace curled up into a ball on her side in the grass as she mourned for those that would never have a chance to live. Her heart burning and aching with such ferocity that it would surely kill her, Jace cried as only a mother could over her lost children.

Temo Wolfe

Temo had been slowly plodding along through the forest, his heart heavy in his chest. He had been watching Jace slowly deteriorate in mind and body. He had tried to help her but she kept ignoring him. She kept wandering off and when she came back, barely acknowledged him.

The first few days, he would get a rabbit or marmot and take it to her. He nibbled a little of them to get her interested and eat but to no avail. His thoughts told him that it must be his fault. It was his fault that he wasn't there to help her. He should have been there to protect her. After a couple of days, he stopped hunting. It became his job to keep an eye on her, to protect her, but he could not protect her from herself.

His throat was parched but he ignored it. Eventually, it no longer bothered him. His stomach had finally stopped it's protesting of being empty but he never noticed the protests nor that they had stopped. The only thing on his mind was his beloved was dying and there was nothing he could do.

Temo stopped and paused in his trailing of Jace when he heard a wolf howling. He recognized the voice but paid it no mind. His ear twitched when he heard the returning barks and returned to shadowing Jace. He finally caught sight of her with Ookami and Roran. He paused for a moment as he watched them.

He finally broke through the last of the underbrush and padded to the trio. Just in time to see Jace collapse and start crying. Seeing her distress, his vision tunneled and he all forgot about the others as he came up and nuzzled jace. Not getting a response, he sat down and concentrated and forced his body to shift to optime form. It took longer than normal but he didn't notice having his full attention on her. Having finally shifted, Temo gathered the ball of what used to be Jace into his arms and lap. Holding her against his heart, his tears dry due to his dehydration.

"Jace...oh Jace...what have I done..." he quietly croaked.

Seeing his mother's hard emotional outer shell crack in so short a time, and seeing her suddenly begin to cry nearly made Roran himself cry again. He went to move closer to her once more when she moved, but stopped when he saw the male move from the foliage. He smiled mentally, seeing who it was. As the male gathered up his mother, he moved closer and sat down next top him, putting his head against his mother.

He frowned slightly hearing the male ask himself what he had done, he looked up at him. "You didn't do anything Dad, none of us did. What happened to her was out of our control, but the future is ours, we shall protect her. I with my life" He said this in a strong and firm tone, making it completely clear that he meant every word. He placed his head back against his mother and closed his eyes, willing some of his new found strength into her, to make her better.

Sorry for the short post.

Ookami watched helplessly as Jace staggered. He caught her eyes and what he saw made him gasp. Down the middle of her eye was a black line. Quickly he shifted to his Optime form, he would be more useful to her that way. Every noise and movement was blocked from his mind as he knelt beside Jace, silently stroking her head. He felt as if he was petting her but he couldn't do anything else. Several tears streemed down his face.

A flash of black brought his out of his shocked state. For a moment he thought it was Lucifer and his lips curled up for a split second. It wasn't very noticable. The boy's words didn't register in his mind. He barely even heard them. He scooched forward, kneeling on his knees and stooping over so that he could see Jace perfectly. He again began to stroke her head. "It's okay Jace."

The woman felt like she was crying her heart out as everything was running through her all at once, everything she had locked away in order to attempt to function properly only that had failed. She didn't eat or sleep, she ignored everyone around her including her mate who was suffering through the same thing as she. So selfish she was to add this onto his misery as well, she knew he thought it was his DNA that was flawed and caused her to go into labor prematurely she had never told him about meeting Lucifer, shame crept through her and made her cry more, huge sobs racking her body as it all poured out.

She felt someones hands petting at her head and strange as though she was surrounded by males and it had been a man who had done all this to her she did not feel afraid of them, nothing would come to harm her while they were here, only her inner demons could injure her and even then their effect was muted. Still as convulsions racked her body she was strangely beginning to feel better already, not in any measurable terms but inside was a glimmer of light shining through the dead blackness, it should have taken longer and now she felt guilt about that too but what she didn't realise was that everyone grieved in their own ways, some shouted and screamed, others cried silently, some broken things and hit out, while some like herself bottled it all up only to explode at any moment, the most volatile of all the methods one could grieve in.

Then Temo's scent was all around her and a second pair of hands picked her up and held her close, she forced herself into Shift again, a stuttering imperfect transformation that caused her vision to dim and her head to loll back alarmingly before she regained the ability to hold it up. It took a long time and she was thrashing wildly about in pain and discomfort in the arms that held onto her for a good fifteen minutes before it was done. Ashy grey optime paws now clutched at night black fur, her paws not built in the manner of cats with claws that were retractable so regrettably she might have hurt him in her mad scramble to see his face, now was her moment to shed him of some of his guilt as well as her own.

Ookami and Roran seemed to fade away into the distance as it became about just the two of them and their dead children, the shadow souls of whom at that very moment were bouncing around the seconds long parents in movements no one could see and barking shrilly with voices no one could hear. Jace herself even with her connection to the spirit world could not sense them being unable to feel those attached to her own soul. But if someone with the affinity looked very closely maybe they could see a movement of flickering shadow darker than the rest around them or perhaps very faintly hear a puppy's whine.

Her words were almost inaudible between her gasps and hiccuping sobs, tears still streamed and her voice was cracked and raw from misuse,

"They didn't die because of you, not your genes. Lucifer found me, afterwards I was so scared I ran and I tripped. You have no blame in this."

Temo Wolfe

He sat in the grass holding his mate to his chest, not aware of the other two with them, Temo was so focused on Jace and what was going through his mind. What have I done.....What have I done.... He felt that she was on the verge of dying and he had caused it.

It was a couple of long and quiet minutes before it sunk into his head that she had spoken to him. It was another minute of quiet while his brain processed what she said. Finally he decided what she said was not making sense to him. He looks down at her, puzzlement on his face, "What do you mean?" he asked, followed by "Who is this Lucifer?"

Jace talking to him started to bring him out of his singular focus on her. He only now became aware that there was 2 others with them. He looked up at their slightly blurred figures and wondered when they got there. The memory of seeing them when he had come to Jace floated through his head.. Confused, he looks back at her and asks "What is wrong?
