A loud yelp erupted from the females’ throat as she stopped to inspect the foreign object that had so painfully cut into her foot. Her eyes scanned her foot with an intense show of displeasure. Not only for the rock that had sliced a cut into the pad of her foot but allowing herself to let out a yelp. Frustration and anger threatened to flare across her brow even though the offending object wouldn’t react to such a show. Was she becoming too happy and forgetful these days? Having her handsome Theo around had done much to ease her defenses knowing a capable male would protect her. She sat, crossing her leg over the other to inspect the damage closer.

It hurt, quite a bit, and her eyes closed for a moment regaining what little composure she had as of late. She was getting weak, all the submissive, lady like actions that her new found relationship had dredged up reminded her of why she had built an impressive façade over her form. The facts where all there, in this world she was tiny, her frame was not built to fight, nor was it the greatest on four legs for hunting large game. Physically she was probably the least likely to ever win a fight even against other females. No her power had been built up slowly with her mind, the appearance of power and the ability to push it on others without giving them a chance to analyze her was the game she did so well. Sometimes the appearance of danger was enough to persuade even the biggest males to leave her alone.

But now she sat rather insignificantly, bothered by a minor cut that threatened to make her shift to all fours and continue on in that manner. She cleaned the cut and debated on ripping a bit of her skirt to cover it. That thought alone brought a flurry of stubbornness across her frame, she loved the pink skirt she currently wore, and tearing it would only render it useless. But if she was going to collect samples of the fauna up at the base of the mountain she’d have to, or return back to Teddy’s den empty handed and be the silly girl she never wanted to be. She huffed in frustration, a seemingly meaningless thing of ripping a skirt causing her to stay in the area way to long.

A sharp rip echoed through the hollow followed almost reactively by a roar. Fear something Demi hadn’t experienced in a long time crept up her back and along her neck, the fur there fluffing up in a defensive posture. Again her guard had been let down; the female who spent so much time monitoring her social interactions had forgotten to pay much attention to where she was, or better yet what animal she had encroached upon. Demi’s head swiveled slowly around to her back, blue eyes looking through the bush at two burning embers focused directly on her. Fear had a way of rendering her immobile, she wanted to cry out, wished Teddy would come storming out of the brush in all his glory to protect her, but she was alone, facing an angry mother bear freshly woken up from her winter sleep, with two cubs by her side. If there was a worse situation for the tiny woman, she didn’t know it.

She carefully tried to inch herself off the rock, so she could sprint away fast enough to change forms, but her movements were detected almost as soon as she thought them as another growl of warning escaped the bears lips. Fortune if there was such a thing was on her side, the mother bear was just as cautious as she was to enter a conflict but the odds were against Demi, along with a few hundred pounds. A tear fell down her cheek in silent terror, knowing that she was most certainly doomed even as her feet sprang forward to try and spring away, the bear erupting in a sprint after her. Those two shapely legs of hers, her body which had brought her power just from its looks served her very little purpose in this race. The wound on her foot hampered her even more as she was forced into a sort of skip and stride that afforded her no speed whatsoever. Her only chance was to get back to more populated Anathema lands where hopefully someone could help her.

But it was never meant to be, thinking herself free as she hoped from one rock to another a force slammed into her, the claws of the bear digging deep into her side, as her head slammed into the ground under the full weight of the bear. Her ears pinned back against her head as some form of fight boiled to the surface as she snarled, her own paws trying desperately to dig into anything of substance.

The comforting warmth of the sweet little goddesses body against his was missing and the warrior was deeply unhappy about it. It was early morning and the dark male had been told by the female that she was off into the wilderness. He’d nodded groggily, understanding only that she would be on the mountains if he needed her. The problem was- he didn’t need her on the mountains, he needed her to be back here in his bed with him. But he knew that sooner or later, pack duties would plague him and he dragged himself out of bed to wash and patrol the borders. It was mundane work- scenting and marking the places where either his or Naniko’s markers were weaker. They had closed their borders to newcomers for the moment- they needed to become stronger before they could accept more into their ranks. And the ranks were filling up nicely he felt. The males stretching form was impressive as he moved from his bed over to the wash basin, filled with water from one of the hot springs that had been discovered in the snowstorms. Demi stayed in his rooms so often now she practically lived with him, and that suited the male just fine.

Bleary eyed, Theodore exited the Anathema dens in his lupus form for once. He preferred his optime form and Demi seemed to be in this form most often as well. Well trained nose picked up Demi’s scent easily and he forgot his duties for a moment. Skin tingling and a sly grin flashing over his lips, the warrior took off after his little play thing. He could use a little morning exercise and who better to help him than her. It was then that he heard the bear roar and he paused. A fear like he’d never known gripped the male and he couldn’t explain the feeling of foreboding that washed over him. He knew, without seeing, that Demi was in trouble. Rage surged through his body as he moved faster. Perhaps it was a good job that his body was trained and honed, else he wouldn’t have managed to get up the mountain. As it happened, he was there in moments. Blue eyes widened in rage and horror as Demi was knocked to the ground, the bear attacking her.

Demi! Demi move!

Terror reigned in his voice as he moved towards the bear. Lips pulled back in a terrifying snarl as he moved towards the beast. A lunge and a snap at its face distracted it for a moment and the warrior took that moment to shift into his optime form. Now with arms, he launched himself onto the bears back, arms aiming to lock around its neck. It didn’t, however, stop the beasts arms thrashing around and Teddy gave a surpressed yelp as one of its sharp claws caught the thick muscles in his left thigh. Blood slicked down his leg but he held on tight. With a furious bellow he sunk his teeth into the bears shoulder, rage welling up inside the male. Demi needed protection and here he was.

She gave a loud cry of pain as the bears claws dug into her side and attempted to swipe at her face. This was it, she was going to die, and like this of all things. So much of her life had been wasted playing games, and hurting others, it wouldn’t have been a stretch for someone of her past to end her life, no it was a mother bear who was going to end her life. There was to much for her to live for now, it seemed tragic, she had been living with Teddy and things had been going really well, everything except her mother’s death was going well and yet it seemed she was doomed to join her mother.

The bear was obviously furious but grew even more furious at the addition of another trespasser. It had gone to sleep in an area unclaimed and now had awoken in the territory of a wolf pack and that alone was frustrating enough, let alone two cubs to protect. Then the wolf was on her back tearing away, paws swiped at and where successful but it still didn’t budge him from her. Forgetting for a moment the female under her the bear pivoted to try and throw Teddy from her.

In the confusion of it all Demi sensed a lull in the attack, to stubborn to let this best her, she summoned what courage and energy she had left and started to crawl slowly at first. Her form tried to rise up on two legs but she couldn’t, so she was stuck in an awkward pose on all fours, in optime form, trying to gain some distance away from the bear. She turned briefly to look back expecting the bear to be right behind her but instead she saw the dark form of her Teddy, who had come to her rescue. It seemed she had chosen wisely with him, but now he was in danger and she yelled out with what breathe she had left, the shrill nature of it ringing in her own ears.

“TEDDY!”

The warriors stomach flipped as Demi cried out, rage and terror waring in his veins for prime position. He was mad- madder than he had ever been in his life. But the terror for Demi's life that slammed into his brain was more than this rage. The whites of his eyes showed around blue irises as he clung to the back of the bear. As its long claws raked down his thigh Teddy gave a roar of pain. But it pivoted and moved, away from the earthy female on the floor. This was what he'd wanted, his teeth still dug deep into the bears shoulder. He didnt have time to look to see if Demi was moving away- she would be an idiot for laying there. But if she couldnt move, she couldnt move. The pain in his back leg was agonising and he released his hold on the bear to drop to the ground. As his paws connected with the earth he shifted down to his lupus form- the cut was smaller and more protected on the inside of his leg in this form. Black ears flashed back as Demi cried out once more.

"Its okay Demi, its alright. Everything is going to be okay, my love."

He murmered, more to himself than to her. He was reassuring both of them while the bear whipped around and roared in his direction. A snarl was his returning call before he advanced, teeth snapping as he dodged the various swipes from the bears giant paws. They had already caused enough damaged today and the warrior was unwilling to see either of the two of them bleed any more. He caught a few strands of the bears muzzle fur and tugged. It wasnt even a little injury but the shock of having its hair plucked made the bear roar again. Teddy moved, darting (or at least attempting to) towards its back again.

"Come on darlin', you know you want to go home"

He whispered, blue eyes alight with fire. This bear was going to back down, if it was the last thing Teddy achieved in his life. A quick glance over the bears shoulder told the male that his woman had moved away, despite her extensive injuries. His stomach knotted as he looked at her, wondering how on earth she was going to survive this.

With the wolves seemingly working together the bear quickly decided against its actions. One small female was different then a large angry male and as he again charged the bear decided it was best to just leave them be and get her cubs out of here. A final swat was given to give enough room for a retreat leaving the two lovebirds to their lessons.

Demi groaned as she watched, before collapsing, her strength diminishing as the blood poured of her side and the back of her head. Tears didn’t stream from her face just yet, too much adrenaline coursed through her veins. The goddess was wounded badly, and breathing came hard as the pain started to move in, the bear had broken several of her ribs as well as the gash on her side. She watched as long as she could, and as soon as the bear moved to make it’s getaway she finally succumbed to everything, and collapsed on the ground, breathing heavily. Tears quickly started welling in her eyes, from the pain and from the fear she still fought.

She couldn’t vocalize much in the way of words; her breathing was ragged as if some weight was sitting on her chest. Eyes closed momentarily as she repeated Teddy’s name wordlessly across her lips, whispering for it was the only thing she could manage at the time. This was the first time Demi had ever been a victim of anything, and she’d learn the lesson of pain, and most likely it would improve her bedside manner in the future.

The bear was looking dubious about launching another attack, but the warrior male held his ground. He wasn't moving from this spot, in front of the pixie goddess who right now was deathly quiet and unmoving. Whether she had just paused to gather her strength or something more sinister, the male didn't know. His blue eyes were trained on the bear, those violent depths silently urging it to walk away. There was no doubt in his mind that he could kill the bear if he wanted to- a well placed swipe of his paw to the legs would bring it down and a swift attack at its throat would render is useless. It sensed this bloodlust, giving a soft bellow before turning. Rage still coursing through him he almost chased after the animal. A sob from behind him stopped him.

He shifted quickly up into his optime form, limping towards Demi was fire burning up his injured leg. It seemed like nothing compared to the earthly females injuries on the floor. The back of her head was bleeding and he could see the labour in her breathing. He approached slowly, wanting to hold her against him but knowing it wouldn't help her ribs. He collapsed beside her, managing to stay upright. He'd never seen her cry and his ears flattened against his head as her tears wettened the floor. Critical eyes watched her mouth and realised she was calling silently for him.

Demi, baby... I'm here. Come here my darling.

He murmered, soft hands now reaching for her waist to gently attempt to pull her into his lap. His heart remained pounding against his chest, the adrenaline pumping too fast through his body for him to calm down just yet. He needed her injured body against his, to calm him down, to slap him into doing something. But three words revolved in his head like a projector, and Teddy didn't know whether to second guess them or to go with his instinct. He instead waited to see if Demi would crawl into his lap before he said anything.

It wasn’t supposed to end this way, no she was supposed to conquer the world, or mother children who would. She wasn’t supposed to die this young, the injuries where causing havoc on her mind and maybe from shock she wasn’t thinking clearly. She’d survive this, and probably would call someone acting the way she was a baby, but it sure did feel like she wasn’t going to make it. A hand found her, and her glossed over eyes looked up to the man who had saved her. Her ears heard his words, and his loving caress was not over looked.

The goddess started to move, into his lap, the act exhausting but she did. Her form completely wrapped up in his protective arms, ignoring the pain from her ribs, because as long as he held her nothing could happen to her. A hand clutched his chest as more life ebbed to the surface, eyes becoming clearer as she looked up at him. A confused look crossed her face, where those tears from him? Demi was still bleeding but it had already started to slow, no arteries where cut, but she was still weak. That hand raised further still to his cheek, wiping a tear away. Theo, she liked that name much better, was her prince.

“I love you Theodore” she said softly, her voice regaining a bit of its normal luster. Her brief moment of reprieve didn’t last long before everything that had kept her going slowly slipped away. The instinct to survive caused many reactions within the body, it would kill pain, pump adrenaline through your veins and make you almost god like. All that had dissipated now for her. For now she was safe, nothing could happen to her while with him. She needed to be taken home, but her eyes opened once more even as her hand had fallen from his face to rest on his chest.
“I need medical help” her voice spoke barely above a whisper.

He helped her into his lap, soft and caressing support so that she felt as thought he were moving on her own. It was good to see that she was able to move, albeit shaky and unsure of her movements. As she crawled into his lap, Teddy bit back a curse. The bear had slashed his thight muscles on his left leg and she had come to a rest with her back pressed against it. It wasnt all bad however- the pressure of her body against the cut was stopping the flow of blood, even if it was sullying her coat and extremely painful for him. Arms came to encirlce her back and across her stomach, firm but gentle. He could see the pain she was in- his own eyes fought hard not to mimic the clouded glaze that had rushed up to cushion her fall. White gloved hands stroked softly against her arms and back as she clutched at his chest. For a moment he allowed his head to turn softly sideways, to rest on the top of her head in a loving embrace. He didnt notice the tear slide from his eye until dainty fingers brushed it away.

With a voice so clear and distinct that Teddy was forced to take it seriously, she spoke those three words that had his heart slamming against his chest and his stomach flipping in an uncomfortable manner. Blue eyes clashed with blue as he looked down at her. A searching look, but not a disapproving one. He watched as pain overtook and she sunk back down into his arms. Her fingers dropped from his face and Teddy felt a desperate need to move her. He internally checked his leg and found that it was throbbing, but there was little blood seeping from it now. A soft hand stroked her cheek as he opened his mouth to say he was going to move her. Even he didnt expect the return of words.

"I love you too baby, I love you too."

He crooned softly, pushing away the confusion at his words. He heard her sigh for medical assistance and knew it was time to move. Arms tightened around her back whilst holding her against his body. He knew it was going to take a lot of strength to move, to push himelf up. His right leg was easy to swing out and brace- his left leg was a little trickier. Fighting the pain and the opening of the wound that had stopped under the pressure of her body against it, Teddy managed an awkward crouch with the tiny goddess still held firmly in his arms. With a tensing of all his muscles, Teddy made to stand, Demi in his arms and secure for now.

Those words echoed through her ears, and she weakly looked up to her handsome man. How had they gotten here? How had a simple fun little romp in town that evolved into a misunderstanding, and then into a fight, and then into makeup sex, and now to where they were declaring their love for each other. But Demi didn’t have too much time to consider this line of though, weakness drove through her. She knew he was hurt too, by the scent of their intermingling blood, but she didn’t know how badly. She could tell even though her eyes where closed that he had struggled to his feet with her small body in his arms. Normally he’d have no trouble completely lifting her and placing her in any position he wished, much to her own enjoyment from time to time. This time she was just glad for his strength, she wouldn’t be able to walk much less crawl in her shape.

“Your hurt” she squeaked softly, his injury coming to the forefront of her mind above her own. There was indeed a reason she was a healer, even if she was quite miserable with her bedside manner. A soft hand went to his shoulder as her eyes opened softly as he walked her back to the cave. It was a good thing; it kept her mind from slipping into sleep, kept her wits about her with worry for him. An injury to him was much more of a problem to the pack than one to her. He had to remain strong, a warrior to protect not be hurt and a cripple.

She sank her head into his chest, as the pain started to set in again. Soft muffled cries escaped her lips as all will to stay strong seemed to fall away from her.

Although pain seared through his leg and threatened to make him wince as he lifted the little goddess from their seat on the floor, his face didnt show it. With her weak gaze on him he allowed his blue eyes to radiate power and strength into her, as if his gaze could make her stronger again. He didnt know what to do, didnt know who to turn to. She was the only healer in the pack and he had no idea who was going to help her now. It didnt cross his mind that it would be him. Black arms were strong around her and he moved with slow deliberation. In his mind he was moving slowly to keep from hurting Demi too much, but his leg throbbed horribly and a squeeze and flip of his stomach was enough to make him sway. It was then that her weak voice came through and Teddy gave a soft chuckle.

"Oh no sweety, its just a scratch... just a scratch."

He murmered, his own voice trying to reassure himself and the little female in his arms that he was okay. His leg had stopped bleeding when he'd been on the ground but the walk down the mountains were taking its toll. She laid a hand on his shoulder and her blue eyes seemed to spark with the need to stay awake, to stay alive. But they'd reached the main entrance now and he could see that she wouldnt go on much longer. He was right as her head fell against his chest and every jolt of his footsteps caused a cry to escape her lips. He hadnt felt worse in his whole existance.

"Demi... Demi we're home baby, we're home. What do you need? What can I do? D-do we need Naniko? I can call Nani..."

This was an unpleasent and unheard of feeling for Teddy. Not knowing what to do, being uncertain. His worried voice flashed over the earthy female as he laid her down on the bed. His white gloved hands went immediately to her ribs, so gently feeling for the break. He didnt know what to do when he found it, but finding it was better than doing nothing at all he supposed.

Each movement brought a squeak from her mouth, before finally she was settled down on the bed. Her eyes opened and her head rested on its side toward him, looking over him as best she could. Her chest burned and ached with every breathe, and the cut on her side burned as well. Finally she made out what he was saying, and her mind tried to work on the answer.

“clean cloth,” she paused as she took a breath “Alcohol,” each word or phrase was followed by a harsh intake of air. “Needle, and thread, time to learn” she recited meekly. Demi weakly attempted to make herself more comfortable. She wanted to sit up so she could attempt to oversee his efforts and in hopes that she would find herself in a less painful position.

“If you don’t think you can do it, call Aunt Nani” she recited quietly, it wasn’t a strike on his male bravado, in other time it might have been, but Naniko was also trained in the healing arts, even if she didn’t perform them that often anymore.
