She was tired now. Alls she had eaten in the past half of a month was small mice, and her tongue could no longer even taste the flavor. Where once it had been a treat, now she dreaded eating another mouse again. The small thing was never satisfying, it cost her more energy to get it then it even gave her. She had grown frail and weak since that strange female had taken her in her wing and abandoned her again. Montidora was a lost bird with little to no reason to live. What she looked forward to was the end of it all, if only because she had no idea what good in the world there was besides Dharm who disapeared just like all of the others.

She entered a thick forest, darkness hiding every part of her but her eyes. Her legs shuddered and finally she willed herself to a collapse. Her legs buckled and in a simple, clumsy motion, she fell tiredly onto her side. Her eyes were dull and she became overwhelmingly hott in mere seconds. Her tongue met the ground and her stomach growled uneasily, her dull, dark red eyes went unblinking as she surveyed her surroundings.

This, this overwhelming tiredness, this sense of lost dignity, this lack of hope- it was all she knew in her short life. Her beginning was bad, and she could only assume every one elses life was like this. Had she known what dying was, she would of wondered why they didn't just die. This emptiness? It was not worth breathing for any longer.

It had taken some time to get their home ready. Giuseppe and her had cleaned out the house they chose for themselves and Beppe, too, and the other two wolves were settling in quite nicely. It was their first day, maybe the second, she had forgotten about time since her lover was back home. With a deep sigh, she casually made her way across their new home, their territory they were going to share amongst their family. Her jaw tightened as the pain in her leg did not ease, having through walking it out would help. The walk from the pack that helped her to the concrete jungle of a land that was long gone had done some damage and she didn't know how long it would take to heal. With a sigh, she turned her head as a scent entered her nose.

Her weight turned and her heal dug into the sand as she saw a small figure about to give up on herself. Maria gasped in horrow as she moved forward, her pace quickened to get to the child. "Allo?" she called out and came to stand on her knees to reach out toward the child. "You okay?" she asked, her Italian accent thick as ever.

Dharm had been german, therefore, all he had spoken to her in was German. Granted, scary lady taught her english by force; so she could grasp what the other was saying when she was approached, fortunately. Still, a distantly confused look clouded her eyes as she watched someone come hover over her. She pushed away, squirming slightly- not used to this closeness. From being so far away from others her entire life, she had grown into claustrophobia. She had no idea if it was the others intention to smother her or not (which in reality- she wasn't, she wasnt even touching her). "N-nein," She answered in her german tongue- though repeated in english. "N-no," Had she known the word for never, she may have answered it. She hadn't known what OK was for the longest time.

She barely lifted her head off the ground before placing it there again, one leg draped atop the other in a lazy manner which could be expected from her past journey. She had delt with more then what was fair. She expected this girl to leave now, like all the rest had. Because that was simply the way it worked. To comfort herself, she spoke the only words she knew, though only one brought comfort. "Montidora, Montidora, Montidora," For she had forgotten the other word due to lack of thinking of Lincoln, which was unfortunate.

The little girl's reaction broke Maria's heart as she shuffled away. The dark woman had to shift her weight so there was not much pressure on her broken leg. "Montidora?" she asked and leaned forward with her hand, trying to reach out to the child. Her motherly instincts kicked in quickly and she sighed, unable to leave the child alone. "You have family?" she asked and looked around, quickly scanning the area. The child was very much underweight and she cringed at the sight, trying to reach out and touch the girl's side. "You come eat?" she asked and looked back in the direction of her house she shared with her love, where a deer was stored away from an earlier kill. Maria smiled gently, hoping the other would take up on her offer and not shy away.

Monti was hesitant in all that she did. She had to be, she thought to herself. Especially now. She could not decide whether or not she wanted to be alone anymore. She was so used to it, so used to being herself and no one acknowledging her and when they did, it was with sad eyes. Her ribs jutted out from her fur now, and her eyes closed tiredly. She was in pain, and her body would soon begin to eat at itself if it did not... what did this woman say? Her ears thrust forwards and she lazily opened an eye-lid, weakly raising to her butt. It was a struggle, but she did it, and now to rise on all fours. "E-e-eaaaat," She agreed, her voice struggling to say that. It had been a long while indeed since she had last eaten anything decent. But she watched the woman gesture towards somewhere else and she lazily moved, stumbiling weakly towards the direction the females head pointed to.

"No family," She whispered, her eyes darkening in the slightest as her eyes studied the ground in a most miserable manner. A dizzy spell washed over her and she tumbled towards this stranger. She pulled away, having fell onto something, but due to her tiredness she was not sure what it was. She cowered, looking up with fright towards the woman who offered her food. Silver lady would have her head for stumbling.

The other repeated the word she had spoken, as if it were foreign, and she frowned. But her reaction, however, spoke many more words that were actually in the air. She obviously knew what it meant and obviously looked like she needed it. Her weight turned and she began to pick herself up. When she spoke, however, about having no family, her frown expanded and she sighed. "Come with me?" she asked, and reached forward and her thin fingers slipped around the puppy's form (with permission) and picked the child up. She was growing, but it looked almost stunted because of her lack nourishment and lack of attention and additional stress. Maria held the girl close and stroked the side of her head soothingly. She carefully turned her weight and made her way to the home and found the pieces of meat they all had brought down earlier in the day. "Sit here," she said, and sitting the girl down on a piece of furniture left over from humans of long gone. With some utensils and her own claws, Maria pulled meat away and and softened it up for the puppy to eat, before turning around and offering it to her. "You want stay here? With me? Can care for you," she said, her English a bit choppy, but nonetheless with meaning.

She nodded, barely, slowly, dumbly- but she nodded. She did not comprehend what she had said, just "come" and "me". When she was picked up, her entire body went slack, and when stroked the childs eyes closed and she actually relaxed. She could of fallen asleep within her arms, if it weren't being placed upon a foreign object. Her eyes opened and she gazed all around her, seeming a bit more awake if only due to the immidiate change in setting. It wasn't normal here, and she was a bit freeked out by the walls- but she was too tired to complain about it... Instead, she would politely ask, "Where?" Her accent was sharp, though her voice was soft- she spoke fluent German but over time she would learn and fluently speak any language she heard. She was a smart child- but right now she wasn't as aware as most cared for kids may be.

She sat where requested, swaying tiredly in the spot, not having rested for many days at a time. She noticed how warm the place was, and how peaceful the atmosphere became in a matter of seconds. Though again she moved into wakefullness, smelling the meat and watching what Maria did with it. Her eyes were dull despite the dim light within her stomach. Anytime she went for 'Silvers' food, she was shoved off in a painful manner. She was hurting enough, she wanted no more of it. But when it was offered to her, her eyes turned soft, confused, and they gazed at the female. She did not understand.

The next words were a flow of them, clustered, but understandable. To her, this was how she spoke though with a different accent. She was aware of the deep meaning. But she was frightened by the request. "N-no leave?" She was also frightened, naturally, of the answer. She had not yet taken a bite that was offered to her, until the food stayed there. She slowly moved towards it, jaw opening and allowing the meat to enter her mouth and warm her stomach. It was delicious, and she hungrily wished for more. But she would never ask.

How could someone not be their for their child? Or any poor child, regardless? Looking over the girl, trying to figure out how someone just overlooked such a hurting child and the thought made her eyes water with sadness. It was then she moved to stand and a smile graced her features. "No leave," she confirmed with a nod and turned to get the girl another piece of meat. She smiled and looked around the house for Giuseppe or Beppe but they were not there. "Maria is my name. You Montidora?" she asked, placing the softened meat out in her hand to prevent getting the couch bloody. Maria sat down carefully and touched the girl's cheek with her other hand out with the food.

She did not smile at the others response, for she did not know if this was honest. All hope was lost, and she lived within darkness and despair. None had proved her wrong- for Silver had promised the same thing and kept her for a month, then dumped her into the cruel world- again, where she had lived alone and was unable to survive well on her own. Still, she thought that perhaps life was made to search for someone who loved you. And even if she wasn't sure what love was, she was willing to find out. "O-Okay," She whispered, her eyes trained on the meat rather then Marias face. She could not help it. For days she had been wanting food, for days she could not catch a mouse. Her stomach growled as if to prove such a thing, and then she looked shamefully back at Maria. "Ja. Sie rufen mich Montidora. Y-you can call me Monti," She said unsmiling. She liked Monti better though, and the thought of hearing her nickname was quite happy-making, no matter what the situation. This, at least, was a good one. She ate the meat again, her small tail wriggling behind her slowly.

"Monti," she said, leaning back into the couch and sitting comfortably. Later, she would find Giuseppe and Beppe and the rest and introduce the girl to the rest of the family. "Is family here," she cooed and after the meat was taken from her hand, reached and touched the girl softly on the back. There was an extra room in the house Maria would take the girl to later and let her stay there or maybe, after talking to Giuseppe, let her stay with them. It was a good feeling to take someone under your wing, the feeling of actually taking care of someone. There had always been someone taking care of her: her family, Giuseppe after getting pregnant and dumped by her actual family. It had been nice to take care of herself when put on a new island. Now, though, she had room to breathe even with her mate here. To take care of someone else would give her more meaning, perhaps, and a better feeling over all.

After the meat settled into her belly, she yawned, feeling warm, feeling not full but comfortable for the first time in a while. She settled with caution upon the others lap, her eyes blinking, blinking, and closing- still feeling terribly frail and sore. She had been walking a long time, and the soreness would not go away until two mornings after. She listened to the soothing words the female spoke, her tail flopping, though hope was hardly lit in her- yet. "Monti ist happy. I is... tired," She said, her eyes closing.

And in two moments more, her eyes closed- and stayed that way, as she fell asleep cradled within the lap of Maria, for the first time in a long time, feeling safe and comfortable, and not fearing for her life.

The child said she was happy and it put a large smile on her face. Had she not been sitting on her tail it might be wagging idly behind her with joy. The child crept up into her lap, making herself comfortable and falling asleep quickly. It was something Beppe had done as a child and Maria missed those days greatly. She sighed in content, and began to whisper an old Italian song to the little girl as she slept. Her hand softly rested on Montidora, stroking her black fur to soothe her while she slept.
