Set at the Rocky Outcroppings at Grotto dei Avernus. Anna & Clover!

So lie to us and just say that there's never emotion in all that you give away

With the melting snow of April, this area was becoming increasingly wet and disgusting. It had taken Hybrid a fair bit of time to make his way to the rocky outcropping which overlooked the entire region of the grotto. He hadn’t wanted to give up after coming this far, but now, he was sufficiently peeved. The last time he’d come here, a rather peculiar – no, brain-dead – coyote had found him and harassed him. He’d been in his Optime form displaying behaviour Hybrid generally associated with the other forms, so he had been sufficiently surprised. He hadn’t seen this coyote around recently and was glad for this: he had been a bit of a bother. Luckily, there seemed to be a few other coyotes he got along well enough; namely the female coyote whose name still escaped him. Whoever she was, she had been pleasant enough. He had promised her a wolf murder sometime soon, so he supposed he was due to take her a ways northwest of Inferni to find some loners. While they couldn’t head up the mountain anymore since that damned wolf pack now lived there, Hybrid figured heading away from the rest of the wolves was a good idea.

With that thought, he let out a long yawn. He stretched his forelegs and shook out the kinks in his neck. Once he was done, he licked his chops and looked around for a few moments. His feet and underbelly were caked with mud and as he stretched, flakes of dirt fell of f his pelt. He supposed he rarely looked presentable on a good day, so he wasn’t too bothered by this. He paced around on the rocks for a few seconds before picking a suitable place and sat down. Hybrid began to form a plan for his next outing with the female coyote.

Word Count → 439 :: Whee! Hybrid is in lupus, yes?

It had been quite some time since the coyote child had last wandered to this area of the clan’s lands, but her memories of the place were less than sad. It was here that she had first discovered her sisters, China and Sage, had arrived in Inferni and planned to stay. The girl’s chest had been full of emotion that day and she knew that things were going to be alright. And yet, somehow Mother Earth had let her down. Sage had been injured in their hunt for their father, and who knew where Razekiel was (or if he was even alive). Micah had also shown up in the area since that time, but he would not stay in Inferni. Why couldn’t Mother Earth be less cruel? Why did she have to toy with Clover so?

She had taken to wandering off on her own a lot lately, trying to clear her head and reassess where her relationship with Mother Earth stood. She had wandered outside of Inferni’s borders (she thought of those lovely green eyes she had seen) but never further than the city of Halifax. In fact, Clover seemed to always hover around the eastern part of Nova Scotia, up until where Halcyon cut them off from the other side. Today, however, the girl decided she would remain within the borders. Daisy deserved some rest after the girl’s many excursions, and so she figured she might as well explore Inferni some. She had no real goal or destination in mind, but somehow Clover found herself nearing the Grotto after walking the clan’s lands for an hour or so.

The atmosphere here was different than before, and yet the thick fog still remained. In fact, Clover didn’t notice that she was not alone right away because of the fog, and skirted out onto the outcroppings before Hybrid’s presence became clear. "Hello, love," she called softly so him, her palms outstretched to either side as she moved her way further onto the rocks; she did not want to accidentally slip, so she moved slow and cautiously. "It sure is warm here," she commented, finally settling onto the rock, but close enough to the edge so that she could let her legs dangle over.

Straw gold eyes sought the male, whose name escaped her, and found deep crimson and a mottled mix of black, rust, golden brown, and mud. A thin smile found her lips at that, and she wondered if perhaps he had come here to clean up. Whereas Clover was petite and well groomed, this male seemed to be rugged and somehow scruffy. She found it somewhat endearing.

Hybrid was lost in thought, imagining all the fun he might have with that unnamed coyote woman. He remembered their kill and even the events that transpired after that. It had been the first time he had done something like that with someone like her and it did not repulse him as much as he thought it would. But only yesterday, he had found himself so appalled by his actions that he couldn’t breathe. So why was it different now? His emotions came and went like the tide and he was still a little confused as to what it meant. He wished Samael were here still.

He was so engrossed in his own thoughts that he did not hear the ascent of another canine until they spoke. Hybrid whipped his head around to see a female coyote, made up mostly of browns and tans, scramble onto the rocks next to him. He flicked an ear forward as he eyed her with distaste. So, he would be interrupted again. He did not bother masking his annoyance and stared at her openly. He watched her as she made her way onto the rocks ever so slowly, her long Optime legs moving slowly and her arms held out horizontal for balance. Unlike her, Hybrid was in his Secui form and was fine where he sat.

He frowned when she commented about the warmth. Why the hell was she telling him this? And what was this… “love” she said previously? Hybrid narrowed his eyes in annoyance.

“Do you need something?” he asked coldly. He was tempted to add something about predicting the weather, but decided against it. He had never been very good at comebacks or zingers and usually relied on his tone to convey his distaste. If all else failed, his body language clearly indicated dissatisfaction with this sudden appearance.

He must have been a warrior for the clan, Clover decided. Now that she looked past the mud dirtying parts of his coat, it was easy to see the scars that adorned his frame. He was rugged and even now he was in his secui form – the true signs of a warrior, right? But Clover didn’t really know much about that, so she could have been easy to jump to conclusions. Not until she had traveled to the lands of Inferni had she been faced with some of the darker truths of the world. Juniper Peace had done its best to desensitize Clover to the cruel realities of the world, and she was only now discovering how dark a place it was. Mother Earth could no longer fool her; she was not the ignorant child she had once been.

"Nope," she responded simply, writing off the clear dissatisfaction in his voice simply as the personality of a warrior. He must have seen some dark things in his time, and so she assumed he must perpetually be cold. She could not blame him for being that way – he was a product of the cruelty of the world. Mother Earth had not been kind. "Do you?" She asked him them, brushing some of the golden chestnut away from her face to fully reveal the roan red mask characteristic of her bloodline. She realized now that she should have brought her mason jar with her, but a spark reminded her that she had tucked a joint into her headband, and the young Inferni coyote smiled to herself.

Her quick response confirmed to Hybrid that she was only here to bother him. He felt himself frown the moment she replied and he moved to quickly reply.

“Then—leave me be,” he replied with a foul sneer. He knew that his physical appearance normally repulsed his clanmates enough to allow him the solitude he coveted. Instead, he realized that this coyote girl seemed more interested in him than she should be. He had noticed her sidelong glance, but hadn’t thought much of it until now. He wished she wouldn’t look at him like that; he’d much prefer if the other members of the clan would ignore him and let him go on his business. They didn’t need to know what he did for Inferni or in Inferni’s name. Gabriel knew and Gabriel’s son probably had a good idea about it. In the grand scheme of things, while it was obvious what his role was in the clan, it was easier to avoid the other members.

He realized he had lapsed into a momentary silence when the girl spoke again. He shot her an annoyed glance that clearly said ‘no,’ if not ‘leave me alone.’ He glanced away when he saw her brush back her mane, which she had allowed to grow to a ridiculous length. That looked like it would be a horrible annoyance. He added this to his ever-growing list of reasons females were fickle, annoying, and stupid creatures.

The silence that settled between them did not put Clover off at all. Perhaps others would have found the lack of words unsettling, but Clover felt completely at ease here. Sure, Hybrid wasn’t exactly the prettiest thing to look at, but the man had character and it was obvious that there were plenty of stories and experiences tucked away within that thick skull of his. Though most of his memories were probably not things that Clover would want to dwell on, she couldn’t help but be curious about the inner workings of a warrior. She would never be that tough, and most certainly never could be. Even if Mother Earth had let her down, Juniper Peace had instilled values and ideas that had come to shape Clover’s very morals. And sure those morals were somewhat twisted (for sleeping around was easy for her) but she could not help it if she had been taught in the ways of unconditional love (and as such, inflicting violence was not).

She turned then, rolling over so that she could lie on her stomach and let her feet dangle in the air above her back. Both hands went to cup her chin, while elbows rested on the rock to support her. Perhaps Hybrid would not be impressed that she had turned her full attention on him, but Clover didn’t really care to notice. She smiled at him, the same sweet smile that was most always present, before letting some of her fingers twirl into her golden hair. "What’s your name?" She finally decided to ask him, tilting her head curiously to one side as she awaited a response. She had no doubt seen him around Inferni plenty of times, but she had never actually been introduced to the warrior. Until now, she never saw a moment that seemed fit to disrupt him; warriors surely had to be very busy.

The girl’s lack of annoyance or repulsion with his words bothered him. He didn’t like the other members of Inferni taking so lightly to his position in the clan. He didn’t want recognition or subordination, but just peace and quiet. He thought he at least deserved it after what he’d done for the clan, but apparently not everyone agreed. Honestly, if he’d wanted to chat, wouldn’t that have been obvious? When someone said ‘leave me be,’ it was usually considered a very polite way of saying ‘fuck off, I don’t want to talk to you.’ Hybrid had thought it was obvious enough, but apparently he had underestimated this girl.

He moved to stand as she switched positions and laid down. She propped herself up on her elbows and rested her head on her hands while lying down on her stomach. Hybrid moved awkwardly, trying to avoid her and not step on her. He lingered for a moment, wondering if he should just leave or say something.

“I’m leaving,” he bit out. He didn’t know what else to say so he promptly moved to dodge around her feet and descend down the rock. “You’re annoying.” That was a good enough explanation, he assumed.

Straw colored eyes widened as the warrior rose from his place along the rock, and darkened ears fell slightly amongst golden waves and white braids when the male did not offer his name in response to her question. What was so terrible about offering his name? After all, they were both members of Inferni. It didn’t do either of them any good if they did not know each other. "Aww, where to?" Clover protested, her voice verging on the edge of childlike whining. She immediately pushed herself up from the rocky floor, and swung her legs around so that she could be sitting while he aimed to leave.

His next words only elicited a frown from the girl, but she did not let it stop her. Clover was quick to jump to her feet and move across the rock to trail after him. "We were just getting to know each other," she called after him, grin once again finding her features. "Plus, I still have this joint to share. I’m sure a warrior like you could use a little relaxation." He had done his best to rid himself of the hippie pest, but miss Clover Love was not about to give up that easily.

Hybrid moved to step over and around her feet, but the girl was having none of that. With a petulant whine and a horrid frown, she sat up and swung herself around. She nearly took Hybrid out in the process and he had to step lightly to avoid her feet. He lowered himself and scrunched his neck in, an automatic reflex for the aging maniac. He growled low in response and moved to stalk away. It would be easier if he said nothing else so she wouldn’t have any way to keep talking to him.

Somehow, it didn’t seem to matter. She frowned and then jumped to her feet and moved to follow him. He rolled his eyes, still annoyed this bitch wouldn’t give up. Why couldn’t he just have some honest peace and quiet? Why did all of Inferni conspire against him? He had served them admirably for years, and yet, they repaid him with pebbles and dirt in lieu of real coinage.

She called after him, teasing him with a small smile on her lips. Hybrid flinched at the sight. He hated such obvious displays of affection. It sickened him. He sneered when she tried to complain, explaining that they were just getting to know one another. His sneer turned into a second rumbling growl when she offered to share a joint.

“Discipline is relaxation. Now piss off, bitch,” he snarled. He kept his one eye trained on her and jumped down the rock. He turned around once he had done it, watching her warily.

Word Count → 212 :: Short post is short. :3 I love this thread, though! XD Hybrid is such a meaniepants.

It seemed as if Hybrid was fated to be perpetually hostile, but Clover refused to believe it. Sure it was clear by his body language and response that he was not entirely impressed with her presence there, but Clover was sure that he just needed a little coaxing. Being a warrior to the clan must be a taxing position, and the hippie child only wanted to help him be free from his burdens for just a short while. She was curious about the man, but only because he was so entirely different from her. The fact that he was trying to brush her off so simply did not push her away. In fact, Clover saw it as a challenge.

Both darkened ears once again fell towards golden waves, and Clover placed both hands on her hips while eliciting a sigh. The male had leapt down from the rock, obviously aiming to separate himself from her. This would just not do. Clover wasn’t done with him. "Are all warriors this rude?" She questioned him, though her voice still airy as it had been before. There had been a slight sting from his words (though she barely acknowledged it) that she had managed to look past. Now she was just truly and simply curious.

Hybrid was fated to a life of petty annoyances. He wished Gabriel could make some sort of sweeping law that told all of the bothersome little shits to just leave him the hell alone. He wished he didn't have to deal with others. It was hard to be antisocial when everyone was constantly trying to pester him. First Ezekiel and now this little snot. What had ever happened to Inferni? It was a sad day when a warrior's strength was not respected and was instead mocked. He missed the old days.

He flattened his ears against his skull in response to her jab. He narrowed his eyes and turned around to see her looming over him, hands on her hips. He pulled back his lips and flashed his teeth and was about to turn away when he decided to reply again.

"Is everyone this goddamn annoying? Fuck, just piss off and... I don't know, be useless, or whatever women do." He sneered and then turned and descended down another two rocks.

Well, this would just not do. Not do at all. Though his words aimed to hurt her, they did not elicit the effect the warrior had hoped. Sure they were not kind, but Clover didn’t let that bother her. After all, they were just words. It wasn’t until the man turned on her with sharp teeth and claws that she would truly heed his warnings, his intent to hurt. This guy was just trying to push her away, she knew, but why did he have to go about it in such a way? Why did he want to be alone? No one truly ever wanted to be alone.

"Why are you so determined to be miserable?" She questioned him, her stance still firm along the rocks, her hands still planted at the curve of her hips. "Woman aren’t useless you know," she added, finally moving towards him, aiming to climb down the rock after him. He had already put some distance between them, but that didn’t mean Clover wouldn’t follow. "We make the perfect company," her hands found the rough surface of the rock as she maneuvered down the first. She wouldn’t be surprised if he moved down further while her attention was focused on her slight task, but when she had made it down the first rock, she turned to still find him in her sights. He wouldn’t get away that easily.

WC: 320. And it's fine! I didn't acknowledge it in this post, but will in the next! Hybrid is kind of zoned out in his thoughts.

He didn't understand their desire to bother him. The girl thought he was miserable. If anything, this was humourously far from the truth. He said what he meant and acted as he felt. He didn't bother to feel one thing and say another, as Ezekiel, Talitha, and probably even this female did. Talitha had said she didn't care what Hybrid thought, but he had recognized some sort of hunger for approval in the girl. Whatever it had been, she did care. He just didn't know why. This girl, too, was the same. She wouldn't be here reprimanding him if she didn't honestly care. He did not know her motivations and he did not know for whom she cared, be it herself or he, but he recognized a desire to care. It disturbed him in an inexplicable way.

When she spoke again, Hybrid found himself growing annoyed with himself. Why was he even here? He supposed he could try to outrun her, but that was cowardly and she would eventually find him sometime in the future. If he didn't make it abundantly clear that he did not want to be associated with her, she would just keep trying to talk to him.

"I am not miserable. Solitude, discipline, regiment, and training are fine company for me. Women are..." he began, but then sneered. How could he explain a female's flaws to a female? One of their flaws was their horrible ability to dramatize everything, as she was doing now. It would be a little coincidental if he tried to explain that, wouldn't it? He knew who he was, what he liked, and what he wanted. He did not see why she demanded he change that. "I lead my life the way I choose. It's not your business to start dicking around." Perhaps that would be simple enough for her to understand.
