Crap post is crap. All welcome.

She hefted a sigh and gazed absently at the pages of the bible open in her hands. The light of the setting sun as it cast a glow upon the beach left the pages aflame, but it did not help her inability to read the words. No fantastic dream cropped up in her head, no sense came from the book. It was just a book. For all her father's talk about God, it was just a book. Her faith didn't allow her to understand. The letters were obnoxious jumbles that left her with a headache.

A flutter of pages broke the silence as she hurled the small, fragile book across the beach. If only Ezekiel had taught her how to read! If only he hadn't decided there was something better than her in the world, something in the shape of two obnoxious brats and a golden harlot from the sea. If only she hadn't yelled at him, or thrown the books he'd so carefully brought back for her lessons. If only, if only. The world was full of 'if only's that she would never be able to fix. "I'm a horrible sister." Her voice was dull as she collected her possession, hugging the small piece of literature to her chest with trembling arms.

Crimson eyes turned toward the west, full of guilt and regret rather than sadness that was so normally there. As she'd seen in the weeks without Ezekiel's presence, it was difficult to be alone. Her small body dropped to a crouch upon cream feet. Something had to fix itself eventually. Something had to go right. "God has plans for me. I hope."

She didn't often come to the beach. Inferni's beach wasn't much to her liking. There was a negative energy about it that she didn't feel when she traveled to Cours des Miracles to hang out around their cliff-laden ocean view. No, it was much darker here. Sage didn't feel like she belonged at this beach. But something pulled here there, today.

It had been a lazy day for Sage, and though she'd traveled quite far through Inferni, out of it, and back again, she would certainly not ignore the pull for an unusual detour. The girl had nowhere to be, really, anyways. As the salt-spray air became more dense, the tawny girl slowed Lennon, breathing in the scent of the sea. With it, though, came another familiar scent. Immediately, lax chocolate ears perked to attention. Talitha? she wondered, yellow eyes trying to peer through the sparse trees, dimming light hindering her vision.

Quietly, she dismounted Lennon, trusting him to stay near with a gentle pat to his nose. The trees became quickly thinner on foot, and Sage stood at the edge of the thick-sanded, rocky beach, staring out at the shoreline where yellow eyes fixed on a dark, wavy-haired lady. Sage's heart rose with excitement, ears fully forward, a smile across her previously vacant face. But something was wrong.

She remained silent as she watched the pretty girl hurl what looked like a book across the beach. It's pages made a dissatisfied sound followed by a thump as it hit the ground. Sage didn't know what to do. If she made herself known now, would Talitha be mad to have been seen? The girl crouched down and backed up for a moment, not wanting to be noticed just yet. She couldn't hear what the auburn-haired lady said, but as her body fell to the earth, crouched and uncomfortable, Sage's eyes filled with that same worry again. No, she thought sadly, yellow eyes creased with concern.

Slowly, Sage descended to the shore. She did not speak as she neared the pretty girl, but hoped that her scent would reveal her to Talitha. An ever-so-gentle hand reached out to touch Talitha's back. Sage's hands were small, but they carried mighty warmth. The tan Lykoi lowered herself cautiously to the russet woman's side, concerned face tilting towards the one hidden by loose curls beside her.

"Hey..." was all she managed to whisper, voice quiet, concerned, mirroring the expression in Sage's delicate face.

The breeze brought the comforting, sweet smell of her pretty, alternative cousin before Sage came near to the emotional body of the de le Poer. Large hands raised to wipe at her eyes in the attempt to fix whatever was wrong; she couldn't let Sage see her in the state she was in without feeling guilty or stupid. No one saw the woman in her disarray. No one, save her brother, and Ezekiel was not there to comfort his dark princess of a twin. The gentle hand of the familiar female was, however, and as it reached out to rest upon her back, Talitha felt some of the weight lift from her shoulders. She kept her face turned away, hidden by a curtain of auburn hair.

"Hello, Sage." Her own voice mirrored that of the younger Lykoi, a quiet whisper, but lacked the concern she was presented with. Instead, it held nothing. It wasn't the voice of the de le Poer Optio that gave away her loathsome emotions. It was the eyes, those dark and hateful things that she stole from her mother, that allowed the world to see what she tried so hard to hide.

Her fingers tapped against the old leather bindings of the bible in her arms. "I'm okay, you know. I just like to come here, to the beach." She enjoyed it, if no one else did — unlike her father, she could not remember Hell's Coast, over the mountains — for the water comforted her worn mind. Casting away her distress, she turned her face to see her visitor, plastic smile present upon cream-colored jaws. "You don't need to be concerned." She could see it in the expression of the other woman, and she could hear it in her voice. It seemed misplaced upon her pretty features.

Dunno what happened here, but she'll cheer up. >>; WC: --

At Sage's touch, Talitha did not turn, nor really move. But she spoke. A blank, hollow voice greeted her, and Sage suddenly felt colder.

"I'm okay, you know. I just like to come here, to the beach." Talitha added, but Sage was not convinced.

The hippie girl's chocolate ears fell quickly against her skull, and she removed her hand slowly from her cousin. The shared warmth gone, she folded her arms against themselves and dropped to the thick-sanded ground, turning her gaze away from Talitha. It was unpleasant and cold; Sage wondered if she should have just Talitha be. Sage's worrying would probably get her in trouble one day. Too late now, though, she thought with a small sigh.

"Alright. I'm sorry." she spoke softly, her voice nearly carried away by the breeze.

Talitha turned to smile at her, but Sage couldn't respond. Her lips twitched briefly before she simply turned her head back to the sea again, normally bright eyes sadder than they should have been.

"You don't need to be concerned." the auburn-haired lady added.

Sage's head turned back now, a small smile on her face now. She wanted so badly for Talitha to be happy, and if the earth child knew anything about people, she knew that Talitha was not happy.

"Yeah?" Sage replied, very nearly hopeful. There was a vague question in the reply, though Sage did not expect confirmation. Sunshine eyes fell to the ground for a moment, still firmly unconvinced that Talitha really was okay.

She did not watch as her cousin crossed her arms, or as she sat. She barely heard her as she spoke, soft voice carrying away on the breeze. The world seemed surreal for a moment as Talitha's mind focused inward on itself. And then she turned her head, offering the false smile she had learned from Ezekiel de le Poer. It didn't seem to comfort the female beside her; her lips twitched and golden eyes returned to the sea, a sadness enveloping her as they sat in silence. She tried to offer consolation. Sage didn't need to be concerned, she was fine, but the strange Lykoi didn't seem convinced. Still, she turned her tan head back toward her dark, reddish cousin with a minute smile to color her sad features.

The hope she heard in the younger woman's voice was almost heartbreaking. After all, she knew that happiness was fleeting. She couldn't please Sage by truly feeling joy, though she would not hesitate to try. "Yes." Her voice was firm and commanding, trying to reassure the Praetorian without lying. At that moment, she was better. Company made her comfortable. Sage's company made her more so. With a sigh, she allowed her lackadaisical crimson gaze to return to the Saltbrooke. "What brings you here? To see the beach as well? Most of us don't like it." Us, she said, referring to the whole of Inferni. The only reason she even came to see it was due to fast fading memories of childhood. The beach brought back a life of happiness. When Faolin was still locked into the fiasco that was mateship with Gabriel.

Silently, she wondered if Gabriel would have left had Faolin remained. Would the golden collie whore have stolen him away? Would he have left his family, or would he have remained faithful? A brief, bitter laugh escaped her jaws as she cast a stone into the water with a soft plunk.

Talitha's forcibly strong response was nearly as assuring as her previous ones had been, but Sage kept quiet about it now. She wouldn't continue to fret about her cousin if it was unwelcome. The lack of conversation about it did not keep Sage from being aware of Talitha's words and actions, though. The earth child understood that habitual sadness and self-pity brought about only despair and mourning; things that everyone could stand to have a little less of.

The ruddy woman gave a heavy sigh; it affected Sage, and she did it as well. "What brings you here?" Talitha asked, and Sage shook her head, small smile curling up one side of her lip.

"No, I don't really like it, either." she admitted gently, sunshine gaze towards the horizon, arms wrapped around her own body as the sea breeze flew past. "I only stopped because I thought I smelled something familiar," she said, turning to Talitha and giving her an honest grin. "I'm glad it was you."

Sage allowed her own mind to float away, as it seemed her cousin's had. The hippie girl ignored the short hollow laugh, knowing it was likely not meant for her. Bleakly, her eyes follow the movement of the waves. In their patterns, at least, Sage felt comfort on this strange, unwelcoming beach.

Instinctively, she reached into her bag and retrieved a thinly rolled joint. Turning away from the ocean's spray, she lit it and inhaled several heady puffs before returning to her cousin's side. With a slow motion, she held it out to Talitha with a gentle nod, unsure whether or not the drug would be welcome or admonished.

Sage knew that there was at least one thing that would help to release whatever tension the auburn-haired lady felt. Marijuana had plenty of wonderful properties, and stress relief was surely one. Even if the older Optio wouldn't show it to her, Sage was not unwise to the workings of the mind. Of course there was something wrong; and if Sage could help ease it at all, she most certainly would.

SHORT. SORRY FOR WAIT. OMGFAILKI.

Of course, the unique child born to the Lykoi family agreed with the rest of the clan in that the beach was not her favorite spot of the territory. It seemed, at least to the dark-faced de le Poer, that she was the only one who appreciated such a place. The sea breeze permeated the air, leaving Talitha calmed by the salty scent. She couldn't find the same comfort in any other region. Not even the caves were offering it as of late. Only the beach, with its abrasive, rocky sand and brackish water left her relaxed. She exhaled a tired sigh, wrapping one delicate arm about her knees as they were pulled up to her chest. Her cousin's words caused the fainest smile to break out over the pale jaws of the elder woman, after the laughter had faded into nothing and all was silent again. As she produced some of the strange scented herb she seemed to enjoy smoking, the de le Poer tossed the idea of leaving over in her mind; as she was offered the vaguely smokey, rolled object, she shook her head and returned to the reality set before her.

"I was just trying to think. I don't do that enough." Her words were spoken softly, eyes kept attuned to the sight of the sand beneath her feet. Thinking had never really been her friend; that had to change.

Weird post, derpppp. Depending on what you think Tali would do here, we can end it or not. But obv, we would need another. >> WC: 269

Sage's eyes were locked on the sea, but her thoughts were kept grounded. She was aware of Talitha's fragile emotional state. It saddened her heart; she greatly wished that Talitha could so easily see the good in life more quickly than the bad. Sage sighed deeply and audibly, but the noise traveled quickly away on the salty breeze. Yellow eyes fluttered for a moment to Talitha, and she wondered what she was going through her head.

Talitha looked down just as Sage's gaze found her. She spoke, and Sage's expression fell slightly. "I was just trying to think" she said. "I don't do that enough."

Immediately, she thought that perhaps her cousin had wanted to be alone, after all. She wanted to stay, to be there for the older, more sullen girl. But she knew that when she was engaged with her own thoughts she was often less receptive to company. She sought empty rooms, uncrowded spaces. But everyone needed and deserved that. Her sun-colored gaze paused again on her fellow Optio before returning to the sea again. The girl cleared her throat lightly. "I'll go," she said quietly, gentle eyes locking briefly on Talitha's as Saage took a slow step backwards, turning slightly away. "if you want to be alone."

The hippie girl always liked to be alone, when she was close to her thoughts; otherwise, she felt crowded, in a state of unrest. Yes, she knew that feeling quite well, as of late. She knew, too, that being able to be so close to her thoughts was healthy. Even her desire to stay with her auburn-haired cousin was outweighed by Sage's wish for her mental clarity.
