Sorry for the pure suck in this post. Hope it's not to bad?

It was difficult to tell if the yearning for wandering came from the boy's need to become his own person.. Or if it was just some thing he enjoyed. Him and his father hadn't really discussed his boundaries, but then again, he was on bed rest. Range didn't really know why, nor did he bother to ask. But he knew he was injured. Already seeing that he was stressed out as it is, the wolf decided not to pester him about it.

Range was quite proud of himself. He had managed to limit himself to this particular area, which in his mind, meant he was creating boundaries for himself. "Either that.. Or I just haven't run out of things to do here yet." The boy shrugged off his thoughts, deciding to focus on his surroundings instead. He put his nose the ground, sniffing around at a pile of leafs nearby. Each one of the scents seemed to tell a story, and after picking up one, he could try and guess at why that creature had been here. This particular one was that of a squirrel. "Easy." He said a loud, rolling his eyes in a human-like manner. They weren't very interesting creatures.. Or at least from what Range had seen.

That was one of cons that came with exploring alone. He had time to watch things, without worrying about keeping another person entertained. He had a hard time taking a liking to people. The boy trotted over to a small stream, lowering his head and taking a few laps at the water. Hardly feeling replenished, he raised himself again- Looking around for the sign of any life. Finding that there was none, he plunged himself into the small body of water- Rolling and splashing around to get it to coat his entire body. Occasionally, he would release a few small yips. One demonstrating that he thought of this as good fun.

Viggo's explorations continued. He was still learning the lay of the land, as well as the flora and fauna of the area. In some respects it was incredibly different from his native area near former Louisiana, but in other ways it was similar. He missed the taste of nutria in the morning, but found the rabbits and squirrels to be rather meatier. Not to mention he was yearning for a pack hunt; the scents of some of the larger animals were driving him nuts. Thirst slaked his throat, and he paused long enough to sniff the air.

Just ahead he could smell the water, and along with that came some yips and jamboree. He cocked his head, curious. Circling around to come out of the woods far enough upstream to be safe but close enough to see what was going on, he moved cautiously forward. Reaching the stream bank, he peered through the last of the forested underbrush. A small wolf was splashing joyously in the pool down from his location. Breaking his cover, he moved to the water and began to slowly lap some. His tail wagged in communal happiness that the youngster seemed to be having. It was almost contagious. A grin graced his countenance.

Finished with his drink, he took a few steps closer and stopped. Sitting, he was unsure of just what to say, not wanting to stop the wolf's merriment.

Range continued splashing around in the shallow water- Yipping more frequently as the droplets of water rode down on his fine strands of fur, penetrating each of the protective and thick layers before meeting his skin. It wasn't often that he got time to be a pup.. He always seemed to be putting on another face, more of a unique one. "Some thing people will remember." The boy stopped splashing, rolling over and holding his paw above him. He studied the long fur that grew between them, seeing if he could wiggle each toe individually. He flopped the paw around, watching it for a few more minutes before nipping up at his paw.

It was funny how easy it was for him to get into the game. He stood up, lifting the paw off the ground and attempting to catch it with his mouth. Within minutes he was chasing himself around, changing his focus from the paw over to the long furry thing that was located on his rear. It was the same colour as the rest of his body, but seemed to have a mind of its own. Every time he would get a hold of it, it would some how slip away. In some ways, it seemed that his maw was always two steps behind.

By the time he discovered the other canine, he was in quite an awkward position. Uncurling his body, he turned his orbs towards the creature. "Uh.." Range giggled quietly, looking down at the stream beneath him. "I was.. Didn't know that anyone was around. I'm Range! What's your name?" He wasn't easily aggravated, especially after thinking about the possibility that this could be a new friend.

The youngster went from splashing to chasing his paw to a wonderful game of catch the tail (which he never quite managed as tails are incredibly tricky things!). Viggo watched, yearning to join in, but terrified of frightening the youth away. There eyes met as the mahogany male had almost succeeded in his pursuit of his hind appendage. The momentary awkwardness passed as if it was never there as the pup introduced himself.

Nares sniffed the air; the scent was strange and foreign to him. Apparently there were others besides his pack around. On a few of his travels he had passed some markings of others, but this smell was new to him. Viggo wagged his tail and stood to greet the other wolf. "I'm Viggo. Tails can be incredibly tricky things, can't they?" As if to prove his words, the older male began to spin, attempting to catch his own only to flop on his back in a narrow miss.

Immediately he righted himself and stood. His tongue lolled between his parted maw from his exertions. "I'm new in these parts, and I've joined Cour des Miracles...but I don't recognize your smell. Do you have a pack? Are there others?" His curiosity peaked; Viggo hadn't met anyone from another pack yet.
