I'm backdating this a little, but not as much as it was originally supposed to be.

It had been perhaps a month since Desi had set off on her own. After parting ways with Panda and Venom, the girl had gone back to her den and besides for a few short excursions back to Halifax and to hunt, had largely stayed to home. She was not entirely sure why she stuck so close to the little cave she inhabited; her sole goal had been to find out more about her father. It had rained often during the past three weeks, but while the rain provided a good excuse to not get out and about, that was not the culprit, or at least not the only one. Perhaps she thought she was obeying some gut instinct. Maybe she just wanted for some company.

Whatever the reason, it was impeding her progress, and that wasn't good. Once she had come to this realization, it did not take much more than the next sunny day for her to pack and set out toward the first place she had intended to go: Cour des Miracles. Hanna had told her that her father had been the King and one of the founders of the Cour des Miracles pack, and while Désirée did not know if that was still the case, surely at least some of the current members had known him and interacted with him. And that was what she wanted: to speak with those who knew her father best, if not meet the man himself.

Finally she was packed, and after slinging her bags over her shoulder, she set out for the Miracles packland. It was late night, but she knew the trip would take her the better part of the night and the next day. Sure enough, she scented the borders a couple hours past mid-day. She did not immediately call out. Instead, she found a dark little cave, not large enough to admit more than a little pup, and after extracting her blue dress, her ribbons, and her knife, she shoved her packs into this cache. She moved a few stones into the mouth of the cache to obscure the entrance and then finished preparing.

The sheathe on her pack was detachable, and it was into this she inserted her knife. Then she fastened the entire package to the outside of her left thigh by winding one of her ribbons around both. She hoped she would not have occasion to use it, but better to be safe than sorry. If nothing went wrong, she could return it to the cache. The dress was then tugged over her head, and she instantly felt more girlish as it settled over her lithe body. She loved her dress, its lovely deep blue coloration, and the little keyhole with its little bow. She tugged the soft fabric into place, untucked the locket from where it ended up beneath the cloth, and spun around a couple times, sending the knee-length skirt swinging. Then she approached the scent marks and sang out a short howl to alert the pack of her presence. Perhaps a little rude, but she could sit there for ages before anyone noticed her if she did not speak up.

I am waaaaaay sorry for the wait! 300+ words.

Any injuries he had sustained from the fight with Jaden had healed in the weeks that followed, but the King had been on edge since then. He had been nonplussed at first by the attack, but the explanation had been enough to fray his nerves. The stranger had been told to leave, and if he listened to the dog King, Vigilante would never see him again. He wanted nothing to do with his attacker, even after it had been resolved as it had.

His past had followed him again. The brief encounter with Lolita had been bad enough, for the dog mutt had not been able to defend himself. Now, a stranger had been sent after him by his nephew. Would there be more? The secui dog mutt shook his head quickly as he walked, banishing the thought. It was not something that he needed to be worrying about. There was nothing he could do if there were more; all he could do was be more vigilant than ever to protect his mate, his daughters, his sons, and his grandson. His pack and his family were his priority.

Nothing could ever happen to Noah, Liam, or Jiva. Vigilante would give his life to protect those three boys if it ever came to that, and he would not regret even a moment of it. Noah and Liam were his sons, his flesh and blood. He loved the young ones he took in, such as Ever and Kambujiya, but the way he cherished Noah and Liam was different. He could not explain it. As for Jiva... Well, the boy was his only grandpup. The King loved him more than he would have imagined.

Dark ears turned sharply at the howl that came from the borders, sharp jade eyes scanning the horizon, looking around him intently as he moved with purpose now. As he approached the female that called, he offered a polite smile, though he was still wary fo anything that might happen. "Hello," he said amicably. "Is there something I can help you with?" The King did not recognize her or a pack's scent.
