_____ The world…Vast. Unknown. Terrifying. Yet so exciting to a young mind that had yet to experience much in life. Icarus had spent the first two months of life under the close eye of both parents within Storm. How he had managed to get away today was courtesy his siblings. The twins – being the handful that they were - created the perfect diversion that enabled the small clone of Storm’s alpha to slip away from the only world he knew. How far he had traveled, he couldn’t be sure. But one thing was for sure. Things smelled different here.

_____ The pup, just two months old to the day, still had so much to learn about the harsh realities of the world he lived in. He had yet to learn about the rules of living in a pack or the consequences of crossing into another’s territory. He had no idea that the sour smell of coyotes and salt should turn him away. Instead, it lured him.

_____ He ambled on awkwardly, still learning how to use his paws to carry himself about dutifully. He watched how his father, proud and wise, moved with an ease and presence so captivating. Icarus spent as much time as he could away from his siblings to be closer to his parents. He wanted to learn so much from his father, but Phoenix didn’t seem to have enough time to explain all the wonders of the world to Icarus just yet. As a leader, he had to worry about his larger family, let alone his pups. Striking out on his own was a small act of defiance. He would show his father. If he wasn’t going to explain the world to Icarus, then the pup was going to find out for himself.
