Borderline Rumble [AW]

Quote:OoC: I don't think this needs an M tag, as I've seen PG-13 violence like this before. I'll edit if asked.

Date: June 10th (backdated)
Weather: Overcast
Time: Late morning

Hell was at the very edge of the foothills, where stone and sand began to blend, and the elevation began to rise.

"ARAWR-RAWR-RAAAAAAAAWRHEH!"

Rewdeynetya lunged in Secui, knocking the attacking jackal — also in Secui — to the ground. Her face had a large gash running across her cheek, opening into her mouth and revealing bloodied teeth. Bite marks littered under her front legs and shoulders, and the side of the jackal she pinned had been bitten open. He struggled, snapping at her neck, and she pulled back with teeth bared to avoid his bite. Meanwhile, a jackal in optime rolled and yowled in the sand nearby, trying to extinguish the flames that smouldered on his back.

They had found her again. They had caught her scent, followed her trail, and managed to catch her at the border of a nearby packland. If she ran one way, she'd run into the sea, and be easy targeting with a bow and arrow. If she ran the other way, she'd run into the cliffs, be cornered and killed. The only way out was through the packlands, which already bordered several jagged hills and which couldn't be easily escaped. Rewdeynetya honestly felt as if she were caught in some sort of nightmare.

Now wasn't the time, however, to dwell on nightmares. She'd have to fight her way out, even though she was more suited for running and dodging around things. The jackal below her struggled, trying to lock his jaws on her neck; she stomped on his throat-head joint and pushed his head back, and opened her jaws with a snarl. He wiggled once more, and she dove down with a growl.

Moments later, he was barely moving, wheezy and ragged breaths rattling from his throat. Rewdeynetya leapt off him and turned, and then ran for the jackal in Optime. She went fast and hard, then slowed, crouched down —

The other jackal, in seconds, was in Secui and at her throat in seconds. They tumbled head over claws, scratching and scrambling to try and get the other in a vulnerable position. They stood on their back legs and reared up, slicing and biting with all their strength. Rewdeynetya tried to aim for the eyes, trying to snap through one and take away the jackal's sight. However, she was being pushed back, and felt herself being driven into the ground.

Then, in a flash of sand and seawater, she was pinned and waves were rolling over her. Like the jackal she had fatally injured, she snapped, trying to reach up, coughing and choking on seawater when the waves splashed over her and her attacker. The jackal shifted from Secui to Optime, holding Rewdeynetya down with a knee and a claw around her throat. In the jackal's hand, a bone dagger gleamed, and Rewdeynetya tried to snap at his wrist.

Then, the knife flew downwards.

.........................................................................................................................................

The jackal-wolf dragged herself away from the water, bloody smears across the sand beneath her. She was coughing red, weak as ice in the late spring, and everything had begun to feel cold and numb. Her eyes burned from grit and sea salt, and her exaggerated limbs were rubbery. The footlands towered over her like her attackers had, and it was almost like they were staring down at her, silent judges of what had been done.

Naniko is always in her optime form :]

She couldn't remember the last time she'd had a good night's sleep. The urge for her magic white powder was lessening with each day, though her hunger for it remained, and that was helping quite a bit. She needed to get some kind of a routine down...perhaps that was part of her troubles. She often rose at a moment's notice to attend to one pack duty or another; a howl at the border, someone scratching at the entrance of her den wishing to speak to her. Did no one ever go to Teddy for things any more?

The already ill-tempered female was in as bad a mood as ever. She had met up with a friend to smoke more of the leafy drug that he grew in a greenhouse in the city, the drug that she had gotten from him in exchange for a night of pleasure. Such a thing was not considered immoral to the Angela; he'd had something that she had wanted, and she'd had something that he'd wanted. It'd been a fair trade and she had even made a friend out of the deal. It wasn't often that she made a friend these days.

She was on her way back into the packlands from Halifax when she first heard it, a sound that she recognized very well. There was a fight going on. She lifted her nose, testing the air. Yes, she could scent blood. She stood stock-still for a moment, ears turning this way and that, nose working to try and identify the direction that the sound and heavy scent were coming from. Her clawed fingers went to her poison-tipped dagger, her one sure defense. She'd taken a few lessons from Teddy in fighting, but she wasn't a pro at it by any means.

The large alabaster luperci turned toward the sound, beginning to jog. She wasn't wearing anything that would weigh her down, only her weapons-belt, and carried nothing in her hands. She'd smoked the supply of weed that she normally kept on herself for emergencies. The sound of crashing waves accompanied the scent of blood that hung in the air. Had one of her members been hurt? They were close enough to the border for her to wonder if any of her own had been involved in whatever tussle was going on.

The sight that met her eyes slightly confused her. She did not recognize the form that lay just out of reach of the rolling waves. It seemed as if the smell of blood was coming from this canine, though she could see no others in the area. Had they made their escape? She gave a long howl to alert Theodore and other members to the possible danger so that they might scout the lands, going toward the figure. She looked her over with a harsh gaze. Rewdeynetya hadn't trespassed, not as far as she could tell.

"Who did this to you, girl?" She could not begin to guess the other female's age, though it neared her own. "Where did they go?" It was only after she came nearer that she could see the extent of the loner's injuries. She gasped quietly, reaching out to try and lift one of the secui's front limbs so that she could see if there was any chest or throat damage and then thinking better of it. "Do you want my help?" If the loner wished to die, then she could offer that service as well. She would prefer to save a life if she could...but sometimes canines were too far gone to come back from certain injuries.

Hooray for the mother/son team >Big Grin / Word Count: 610 (5 points)

Scorpius had been out and about in the pack lands lately, though did want to make a journey back over to Dahlia de Mai soon and check up on Melee. He had hoped that the next time he was there he would be able to see her and even do something with her like they did when they were pups. He was older now and sure they would be able to do something special. A smile came to his face as he sat up and began to head outside of the caves. Because he knew that it was summer and it was sure to be hot out during the day, he didn’t bother putting on any of his clothes. That would be better left for some other time. As he began to make his way to the exit, he looked around to make sure that his mother was not around. It would be really bad if he were to run into her on his way out, especially considering he wouldn’t really have an answer if she asked where he was going. It looked like the coast was clear and he emitted a gentle sigh. It looked like today was going to be a very relaxed day.

That mood didn’t stay for long as the black wolf’s ears moved up and he thought he heard a yell coming from the borders. A soft growl came to his lips as he carefully moved along in the shadows. He didn’t have much experience in fighting, so it would be better to see what was happening and let someone know rather than getting involved himself. He was a bit further off from where the actual fight and judging from the noise, it sounded like it was dying down. His ruby eyes gazed around carefully as he thought he noticed a figure or two. He narrowed his eyes as he hid in the shadows of some trees, following them for a while, trying to catch their scent. The figures didn’t look like they had the shape of a wolf. Perhaps a coyote or a jackal? At first he wondered if they had come from any of the nearby packs, though they didn’t seem to carry the scent of one. The one thing that did bother him was that they carried the scent of blood on them, fresh ones at that. He hoped that it was not an Anathema member that was attacked by these figures.

Scorpius had stayed where he was for the moment until he heard something else. It was the call of his mother. It looked like she had picked up on the attack too and even maybe found whoever it was that was attacked. He quickly turned his attention away from the intruders and began to make his way to the white wolf. It looked like his journey was going to have to wait for another day. He soon found his way over to his mother and noticed some other wolf he had never even seen before. He took a small scent of her and then moved to his mother’s side. It looked like she was a loner and was just dumped here on the edge of Anathema. He huffed gently as he turned his ruby gaze up to Naniko. ”Mom, I spotted some dark figures leaving Anathema. They had the smell of blood on them.” He then looked down to the loner as he crossed his arms. From the sound of his mother’s words, she was going to give her a chance to get help after her attack. The loner would be a fool not to accept her offer.

Rewdeynetya could barely speak. The white one didn't need to lift Rewdeynetya up to see the damage; as she spoke, the jackal-wolf tried to move, and ended up flopping onto her side. There, slightly tilting her head, she would reveal that her chest and stomach had been injured severely. Some of the wounds were deep, but it looked as if she had wrestled off her attacker before he could do any further damage to her. Granted, she was pretty banged up, but only two wounds looked as if needing intensive treatment. Her breaths were ragged, almost as if one blow had nicked a lung — it certainly felt like that.

The jackal-wolf looked up into the eyes of the white one, her vision blurred, the wolfess's fur glowing in the sunlight. Her pain-addled brain wondered if she was an angel, but Rewdeynetya's common sense quickly kicked back in. She coughed, splattering red onto the fur of the white one, perhaps, and said, "...Shore..." before hacking and wheezing.

Nearby, if the pack searched, they would find a golden jackal in Secui, his throat torn open and recently dead from the blood loss. The other jackal, who preferred Optime above other forms, had already taken off for a nearby docking site. Whomever Scorpius had seen with the lone survivor was actually the jackal Rewdeynetya knocked into the sea; he had survived, evidently.

Is it OK for her to lift her and carry her? :o

She stared down at the female, willing her to make a move or consent to what Naniko had asked of her. She had to have a clear answer before she would do either thing. A dark figure emerged from the brush, padding toward them as her ears caught the sound of the loner's voice. She gave her consent, agreeing to allow Naniko to help her. The alabaster wolf turned her head to stare quickly at the dark shape, recognizing it instantly as her solemn son Scorpius. She nodded to the boy, glad to see him and glad for the possibility of his help.

It did not matter to the leader that the injured loner was a hybrid of some kind; she would have helped a coyote if they were in grave need. A canine in desperate need for critical care could be turned into quite a tool later on if she needed it; now Rew would owe her. If Nani could keep her alive. A loner would make a good spy...The cogs were turning in the female's head as she reached down, lifting the smaller canine over her shoulder. Any movement would hurt, but it was a pain the loner would have to go through if she wanted help.

"Thank you for coming so swiftly, Son. As long as they're not in our lands...then I don't see the point in chasing them. If they come back, we can worry about them. If they intrude, I'll kill them." She said coldly after Scorpius' report, turning toward the packlands. There was quite a bit of mountain for them to cross over before they would reach the main entrances...but perhaps there was a tunnel of some sorts that they could use to get back a little more quickly. "Do you know of a faster way to get back to the dens? A tunnel or something?" She asked the boy.

So sorry for the wait / Word Count: 500 (5 points)

As Scorpius continued to watch the intruders from the shadows, he did notice that one of them was no longer moving. It was in secui form while the other limping away was in optime form. Whoever was attacked looked like they were able to do some damage before getting away. He didn’t bother to go after the limping one since there was no point. If this intruder did come back, he would make sure he would regret it. His eyes gazed over to the dead one as he came closer. It was indeed dead. He looked around to see if there would be anyone to help him remove the body from the borders of the territory. No one was around so it looked like he was going to have to do it himself. He did his best to drag the secui’s body away from the borders and drop it off in the woods nearby. There was no reason for him to bury it. His ears moved up as he began to head back to the borders and follow his mother’s call.

Once the black male arrived, his mother thanked him for coming and he gave her a small nod. He then waited for another chance to speak before continuing on with his report on the intruders. ”It was near the beach Mom. I checked once the one left. There were two there. One of them was dead when I got there. I dragged it away from the borders so we don’t have to take care of it later.” His ruby gaze then turned back to the loner as he waited to hear what else his mother had to say about his report.

Naniko then asked the young wolf if there was a quick way for them to get back to the inner caves from here. It looked like she was planning on helping this loner out. It wasn’t too bad of an idea. This loner could come in handy down the line. The young wolf thought for a moment to the closest entrance back into the caves. He was sure the closest one was the way that he came when he was trying to sneak out. He pointed in the direction and spoke. ”I believe the closest way is back this way. I’ll lead you back Mom.” He waited for the leader to take the injured she wolf before leading her back towards the cave entrance he came from.

Scorpius began to lead his mother and the loner back through the caves and to Naniko’s den. He was sure this was where she would want the loner to stay while she was recovering. His ruby eyes moved back to make sure that they were following him. Once they had arrived, he leaned against the wall and watched his mother. He crossed his arms as he waited to see if there was something that Naniko wanted him to do. He wouldn’t mind helping his mother with the loner.
