ten nights of the beast

The time traveler did not really believe he had ever really succeeded in balancing out either of his siblings. The light he offered in contrast to Andrezej's darkness had not nearly been enough. He had not been good enough, or strong enough, or vigilant enough to stop his brother from doing anything. If he had, then perhaps Talitha would not have suffered, and perhaps the pair of them would still be dancing their tired dance. In fact, Kharma had most certainly failed in this -- Andre would not be dead if he had countered him properly. Their act was over. They were yin and yang no longer. One was dead, so one had failed. Or both had. It didn't really matter.

And Rachias? What had he ever really been able to offer her? If it had been something worthwhile, then surely she would still be there.

But the grey coyote smiled his empty smile. He could not believe his nephew's words, but that was all right. For all the miles he had walked, Kharma's fault was still that he was too passive. "As I said," the shadow replied. "You won't see me again after tonight." And so he stood, pulled his hood back over his face, and turned his back on family for the second time that night. "Good luck to you."And then he was gone.
