Kansas could not believe how quickly the summer was passing. Already the days were shortening again, the sun rising later and setting earlier. There were still a few months of warmth left, and he had yet to remorse over loss of sunlight and the ever corresponding loss of energy he felt each year the days forbade those extra hours of light.

When he strode into the orchard, it was only late afternoon. Lexington was nowhere in sight, so Kansas pointed his muzzle toward the blazing blue sky and called for the stallion. He crossed his arms and turned in a slow circle, until he heard the rapid thunder of horse hooves and spotted the blue beast emerge from the fringe of the forest. Kansas said hello to the stallion with a few friendly slaps on the side of the neck. He clicked his tongue and started toward the manor, and at the sound of his master's beckoning Lexington walked humbly behind, his great head held close to Kansas's.

They reached the porch, where Kansas stopped, Lexington likewise pausing behind him. There, the ivory werewolf watched the front door with mounting impatience and excitement. He could not wait for this evening to begin. He and Savina remained as close as ever, but it had been a while since they had taken a few hours for themselves away from the direct activity of the pack. And, he was eager to see her come through the door, sunlight shining in her raven hair and coat and in the depths of her bright eyes. He was impatient, yet he smiled as he drummed the fingers of one hand between Lexington's shoulders.

mind if we backdate this to the 1st?

Winter had taken a harsh toll on the Marino woman, and it was only recently that she was truly feeling herself again. First it had been Artemis' fall and Denali's disappearance, then the blizzard, and finally the blow that had torn a permanent chunk out of her heart: the knowledge her son had been murdered. The puffy pink scars that stood out starkly against her ebony coat would be always be a reminder of that day. Sometimes she wondered whether or not the she-devil had died of her wounds. Savina hoped she had. She pictured the red eyed demon bleeding to death alone out in the snow, suffering. It was no more than that horrid woman deserved.

Now was not the time for such dark thoughts though. It was summer now and the sun shone down freely upon the Dreaming lands. Not only that, but tonight was the night she had planned to spend exclusively with Kansas. Ever since the tragedies of winter, the mated pair had not gotten to spend much time together at all except when they were together at Artemis' bedside or falling asleep in their bed at night. Then when she had finally cast of the cloak of her grief she had put her energy and focus into the pack as a whole, making certain that everything was as it should be. Tonight would be a reunion of sorts for the ying and yang lovers.

Savina had been tidying up around the Manor when she looked outside and realized it was time to meet with her mate. Quickly the Italian fey finished what she had been doing and with a smile stepped outside into the fresh summer air. Emerald orbs sparkled as she beheld Kansas standing at the foot of the porch with his strong, tall horse beside him. The raven beauty swept down the steps and planted a kiss on her mate's cheek. So, what do you have planned for us mio amore? she asked as she drank his handsome face in with her eyes.

yes! Smile 300+

Seeing Savina broken had been more painful than losing his adoptive son. For months she had been so melancholy, and there was nothing he could do to take the pain away. It was not unlike when he had lost his mother, or when Firefly had disappeared — there was no way to make the pain of loss easier. He knew it, but it still hurt him to see her so depressed, and he had never let to opportunity to embrace her pass, just so she knew she had someone to hold, to cry on, whenever she wished. Perhaps it was Savina's state that had turned Kansas into a moping, even lazier oaf recently.

In the past few weeks, however, he had seen more smiles on her face and heard more laughter. He had begun to improve, too. He slept better knowing she was sleeping soundly beside him. When he thought back to those horrible months he cringed and felt a tightness as if a rope had been pulled taught around his torso, but he was learning not to let his mind wander, and if it did, he tried to think of it as just another low point in his life, and, of course, in the lives of his mate and the rest of the Dreamers. Bad things happened, but with the passage of time, the wounds healed to mere scars.

His eyes never left the front door. He did not know what she was doing in there (he wanted to see her!). Fortunately, after a few moments the door opened and the sable woman stepped down the porch into the afternoon sunlight. Kansas beamed, his ears falling slightly and his tail waving. He rushed to meet her, feeling tingles where her lips touched his cheek. As she spoke, the pale werewolf wrapped his sculpted arms around her. It had only been a few hours, but it was still necessary for him to hug her.

Kansas took her hand in his and looked down at her, his blue pools shining with happiness. He was going to make their time together special, somehow. Your choice, bella... We can do whatever you want.

Sorry for the icky wait D: And this post is meh

Sometimes Savina worried that she neglected Kansas when she was so busy with everything else. Of course she knew he understood that her position meant that they could not spend every waking hour together, yet still. Hopefully he knew that she would be there for him as much as he was her support. His bouts of melancholy worried her and there were moments she feared she was a part of his depressions. Sometimes her mate seemed an enigma even though she knew that she knew him better than anyone else. Perhaps with all the issues of the winter they had simply just lost touch. The Marino had insulated herself from everyone—even her lover.

The way his arms wrapped her up always made her feel like a giddy little girl. Of course the Consul was far from girlhood now. Five years she had walked upon this Earth and she had seen and experienced too much to be considered at all adolescent. He had always somehow managed to wipe all her fears and burdens away though, even if only for a moment. Let's go somewhere...somewhere we won't be disturbed. Her words were not intended as innuendo—though they could easily be taken that way—truly she just wished to be alone with him. To talk and commune without the worry of being interrupted by her duties.

pp, as always let me know if no bueno. Smile 300+

Though Kansas missed Savina when they were not together, he never felt she had been neglectful to him. He understood her duties and he was proud that she took them so seriously and, in doing so, kept their pack a peaceful place to live. On the contrary, he feared he neglected her, with his introverted persona and selfish need to be alone more than most did. That was why he was so keen to see her have a good time, to speak closely with her and give some reassurance that he would always be there. In the past months they had not exactly drifted apart, but, unfortunately, they had spent much less time together than usual. But he held no resentment toward her for it, and he did not think she did toward him either. They were not in any danger of losing their connection, he was sure of it. Their depressions had coincided and were worrisome to one another, but the couple was not the kind to drag one another down. They pushed through and, in the end, they remained close. His relationship with Savina was one thing he never questioned, not anymore.

His smile was almost laughing in the way that his entire mouth was open with the swell of joy he felt in her presence. Kansas nodded in agreement with what she had said - she had passed the decision back to him and he thought he actually had an idea. The lake it is. Water, eh, it's peaceful. We can... talk... He laughed teasingly, finding her slightly, but unintentionally, suggestive words humorous. Talking and relaxing were what were most important to Kansas. He could take some sex or leave it, whatever happened happened. All that mattered was that she was happy.

The pale werewolf hmm'd as he took her close, held her a moment to feel the heat between them, and swung her easily onto the back of the stallion. He followed, mounting in front of her. With a gentle pat of her thigh to make sure she was comfortable, Kansas grasped the navy mane of the horse and turned him toward Rabbit Lake. Fields and then trees flew by them, and at last a break in the forest revealed the blue mirror of the lake. Everything but the chirping birds and rippling water was still and quiet. Here? he looked smilingly over his shoulder at the striking woman behind him.
