Example 1:
She paused in place as the man turned. No... It was the wrong person. How could have have gotten away so quickly? Surely an injury that produced that much blood would have to be something of a hindrance? She could feel a thin line of it trickle down her arm underneath her sleeve. There had been so much of it that her tunic had just soaked it up at the moment of impact. Wait... She looked down, back the way she had come. Just as she thought. There was a light trail of red drops leading back. She looked forward, but the crowds were too thick to see through and she couldn't tell if the trail continued on.

On a moment of impulse, she turned and quickly walked back in the direction of the blood. She must have been a curious sight, walking slightly stooped so she could see where it was heading. Though as she moved further along the trail, it became clearer, the drops bigger, and the need to bend vanished. She ended up outside a small 4-person tent, and froze instantly at the sight of it. It was ruined, slashes in the sides, blood streaking the canvas. Dread settling in the pit of her stomach, she crept toward the entrance. The tangy, metallic smell of blood was overpowering, almost making her stomach churn.

There must be a body somewhere... there's too much blood for the source to still be alive... She was quite frankly, terrified. A neigh nearby almost made her leap out of her skin, barely holding back a shriek. Another sound from the creature. The horse sounded distressed. Perhaps the scent of blood was having a similar effect on it?

Laria crept nearer to the sound, her eyes eventually falling on a Strider. Her eyes widened and she hurried over to the poor creature, hands outstretched so it would she was no threat. One palm cupped it's nose, the other smoothed down it's neck, in an attempt to calm the horse.

Example 2:
Lakara could hear the conversations taking place behind her, but she wasn't following them properly, her attentions focused primarily on Ixal. She understood that Riki would be helping tend to the poor dog. The konti hadn't paid a whole lot of attention to her wounds, but from the little she had gathered, they seemed very dangerous. She also heard Kavala instructing Mizuriel to tend to the dog for a while. Which surely meant that Ixal was being left entirely in her care. She turned to look at Kavala then, and met the konti's eyes, relief washing over her when her 'mentor' moved over to join her. She deeply admired the more experienced healer. Not only was she extremely talented at her work, but she was also ploughing forwards whilst heavily pregnant. That was worthy of the highest level of respect.

She gave a swift nod before returning her efforts to the injured man.
"The first thing I was planning on doing, was sorting out his head the best I can. Though now that you are here, perhaps you should be the one to do that. I fear that it's quite severe from the strength of his reaction to the very lightest touch." She looked apologetically at Ixal, hoping that he could forgive her for causing him such pain. "I also think that he has concussion, from his comment about finding it hard to think,"
She shifted over slightly so that Kavala would have better space to tend to Ixal's head before continuing.
"From what I can tell he may also have fractured, or even broken ribs, as he is finding it hard to breathe. This would be my second priority." She glanced at the man for confirmation, before reaching out to let her hand hover over his side, and then looked back at Kavala again.
"I don't know if I can mend fractured ribs, but I can at least ease the pain." Her voice rose slightly at the end, it was almost a question. If Ixal let her, she would lay her hand over his side and use her Gnosis to help alleviate the pain, hopefully easing his breathing, and if she was lucky, help his ribs to begin mending themselves.

Example 3:
Deep footprints led from the Icewall Gates, far into the Talderan Wilderness. As usual, the Kelvic had chosen to travel in her animal-self, the snow leopard. For once she had left the city with some sort of plan in her head. Normally she just ran, with no real sense of direction. Becoming lost was very unlikely. She never jorneyed more than a half-day journey from the city and she could easily follow various scent trails back. Besides, she had spent weeks living out here alone, she was used to it.

Thick legs pumped beneath her well-built frame, propelling her through the snows with ease. Any animal from warmer climate would struggle, but Renaria lived for the Winter. She had dug out her old leather pack; the small bag was now secured to her back in the way her old teacher had shown her. It contained her simple clothes and a small amount of food. All part of her plan. She had seen the Reaches only through animal eyes and she was curious as to how it looked human. She wanted to know how Atyvn saw it.

She moved into the trees, using her heightened sense of smell to detect any predators. Today was the last day she wanted to bump into some over-sized Talderan beast. Nothing. She decided to scout the area quickly, to give herself a rough area where she could become human without worry. She moved east, her nose continuously twitching, scenting the air. The old smells of bears and cats lingered, mixed with something else. Canine? Yes. She knew that smell from Silvy. This was slightly different though, and it had a distinct human scent running through it.

Her curiosity ignited, the great cat moved forward, the scent of human becoming all the more prominent. Her eyes narrowed as she scanned the area before her, finally falling on some sort of disturbance between the trees. She crept closer, her steps almost completely silent in the snow. Silvery eyes picked out the rough shapes of a tent. A tent? Someone was living out here. Ears flicked forward and she listened carefully for the sound of breathing. After a brief moment she picked it up. It was unmistakeably animal. She blinked and added two and two together. Whoever or whatever was inside that tent was Kelvic. There was no other explanation, aside from a wild animal invading it, but that was highly unlikely. Any of the beasts that roamed the forests here were bigger than the small tent Renaria was looking at.

The tent flap was wide open, a careless invitation from the sleeper inside. She deliberated for a moment before creeping to the entrance as her feline self. She would usually have shifted, but she had no idea what animal was asleep in there. She peeked through the opening, the overpowering scent of canine and human filling her nose. She exhaled air loudly through her nose in a ‘chuffing’ noise. Immediately her eyes flicked to the back of the tent, the place where the breathing was coming from. What appeared to be some sort of red wolf was lying on a heap of furs. Renaria ducked her head out of the tent quickly, since she had probably woken it, if not from the noise then her scent. She moved to stand a foot or so from the entrance and waited.

Welcome to 'Souls!

Congratulations! You've been accepted into the craziest bunch of roleplayers on the vast Internet! We encourage you to keep checking out our information; you can find a wealth of it on the RP Guide. Don't feel pressured to read it all at once -- the guide is a huge resource and is meant to be used as a reference.

If You've Joined the Game As a...
  • ... Loner, do begin considering which of the packs you'd like to join. Survival as a Loner is less realistic -- wolves and other canines are generally social creatures, preferring to live in a pack structure!
  • ... IC pack joiner, you can now begin posting -- you may start your IC pack joining thread whenever you're ready. Make sure you check the pack information to see if the leadership requires anything extra from you!
  • ... OOC pack joiner, the leader still has to respond here before you can start roleplaying -- don't worry, though; if you're rejected from the pack you'll be titled as a Loner, and you're free to pursue other packs or the same one later.
Post-Joining Process
Mandatory:
  • Make an In Character post within five days. Post a thread request to get started, or consider starting or replying to an open thread.
  • Please let us know in the Absentee Thread if you plan to be absent for more than four days.
  • Keep reading! While there's only a minimum of three topics you have to read to join the game, we provide a wealth of information for a reason -- we expect players to read and reference this material often while they roleplay at 'Souls.
Preferred:
  • If you're leaving us, please try to let us know in the Player Updates forum. There is no penalty for leaving; you're free to re-join at any time later.
Still Need a Bit of Help?

Post any questions you may have in the Questions and Help forum. Check the FAQ first, though! The Mentors can assist you with writing, roleplaying, and understanding 'Souls concepts. Failing all else, contact a staff member.

If you need help getting adjusted to your pack, you should talk to your pack leader! They can help you to understand the pack's rank system and how to get a better rank, as well as direct you to plots, potential thread partners, and active members of the pack who may be interested in engaging you.
