Rain down, rain down on me

Backdated to July 29. Sunki and Lili post first, then Anu.

The Utina family had fled the AniWayan lands during the dark of night, taking everything they could. At first they had pressed their horses hard to put distance between them and the Guardians in case they were discovered sooner rather than later. Nayati had been exiled, but Maska had wanted him to leave alone, as if the hunter would really abandon his family to what the tribe had become under the Councilman's leadership. The first time they stopped to rest he had held watched and thought long and hard on where to take his family where they might be safe. Even though living in the tribe had no longer been safe for them (for Liliana at least), he knew he had also put them all in danger by taking them with him. At least outside of AniWaya he could protect them, keep them away from Maska and his Guardians. But where could they go now? Going back to the Great Tribe was not an option and the Utina had not given up hope on AniWaya yet.

When his family had woken he had told them where he meant to take them all. The route that he took them on was circuitous and Nayati often road off in different directions from the rest of the family and covered their tracks as much as possible. They would likely be found eventually, but he wanted to delay that outcome as long as he possibly could. The small group traveled all the way around to the eastern border of the pack he had brought them to and as they arrived on horseback the man dismounted and sent out a call for the woman named Anu. He could only hope and pray that she would allow him and his family to seek sanctuary within her pack. Weary, and still sore from his confrontation with Maska, Nayati looked back to his mate and sister and the children they each carried and offered them a smile infused with more joy and confidence than he actually felt himself.

Liliana was battered and bruised not just on the outside but the inside. She had so little choices lately, she knew something was very wrong with the new leader of AniWaya, she did not like him anymore now that she did before.. She had refused to train horses for war. They were all simple animals, they could on’y be taught so much before they got agitated and forgot their commands or even rebelled. Liliana had learned this, her mother showed her an examble of a horse trainer who had done that once and the horse threw his master and stomped on his arm and ran off clean and free. Now Liliana was paying for everything. She was sore, her pride hurt and now she was traveling. She had always had wanderlust, that was until she came to AniWaya, then she knew she belonged there, but now, their pups not even two months old yet, they had been forced to leave. Liliana was still freshly bruised, she had bandages where the man had hit her, causing her to hit some part of the stalls in the stables, but they were superficial to what they had done to their pride. Liliana stayed close to her mate and his sister. She held onto Kuruk protectively, though she was no fighter, barely even a hunter, she would do everything to keep him and Saqui safe. He had asked her many times on the trip if they were there yet. She shook her head no and they continued on the next day, finally knowing what direction they were headed in. The foal that she was bringing with her, the one promised to Silvano was able to keep up even during the night’s race out of the pack lands. Liliana was scared. Scared of rejection and scared of living in a new pack with new customs and new wolves. Where her rank was itse still yet in another form, where she would eventually have to force herself to work hard again.. For now she followed her mate, for now she would stick with him like glue and when she couldn’t be with him she would find solitude with her children.

IMPROMPTU TABLES WHEE

Sunki had been relaxing, tending to her brother's mate, bandaging her and brewing a calming tea out of bark. Before she could finish the brew, her brother had burst into their home and told them to pack. The look on his face and the scent that he carried motivated her to quickly pack up her few possessions; most of it was still in her saddlebags. She shoved her new found herbs into her bags and took her empty satchel around her neck. The rest of her things found their places in the bags the moment Sunki saddled Donoma with the cloth and bags. The horse was nervous, only slightly so, but she knew that it was important if they were fleeing in the middle of the night. Una was no where to be seen as they fled. Saqui had been tucked into her satchel and strapped to her chest so the young one wouldn't fall out.

The horses were pushed hard, especially since they had been roused from their nightly rest for a race from AniWaya. Nayati was angry and solemn; Liliana was hurting and quiet. Sunki did not bother saying anything. She focused on the ride and keeping the pup in her lap safe. Now and then the woman saw Una leaping along with them, between the trees. During their first rest, the woman tucked the pup between her as she lay on her side. She would have let her mother hold onto her, but Sunki insisted on holding onto her niece. She cooed at the child now and then to calm her, though her heart pounded with fear.

But when they arrived at the borders of the pack Nayati thought would shelter them. She stayed mounted on her horse, Saqui tight in her arms as she watched her brother give her a smile. It was confident, so the woman knew he was unhappy. There was no reason for a smile tonight. Not when her sister-in-law had been beaten and her brother was banished from the home he helped build.

The dark night smelt of the coming of rain, the drops hanging stagnant in the clouds above. The moon's glow was shadowed by the thick atmosphere and the world seemed colder by the lack of her gaze. Dry strands of grass broke beneath her falling paws, they wished for the storm that sat above, teasing their Summer weary roots. Her breath was ragged, drawn in and out with a haste it was no long used to. But her body was lean, still trained for travel she had made in her younger days. The lithe gray wolf had heard the call, the tone of a dear friend seeking out her company. But Anu knew better then to believe that he looked for her in the sunless night simply for her companionship. It rousted her from her sleep, beneath an orchard tree, and brought her to her paws. Without hesitation she ran, the journey to the border of her homeland begun with a dazed and sleepy mind.

But it did not take her long for the sleep to clear and her determination to come forth.

Through the black she could see them and to her surprise there were three. Their horses as well. Nayati, what has happened? She asked as she approached, neck curving to look upwards at the tall pale male. Anu couldn't understand, for the man had always reached her in the day, and without the sent of fear that lingered among the group. Gaze moved to the two females, one pale while the other was dark and melted into the night. It would be foolish to think that there was nothing amiss.

Nayati never thought it would come to this. He had never imagined that any of this would happen. He knew something had been a bit odd during his audience with Chief Aatu, but he could not have guessed that all this is what was coming. As small as it was, he clung to the hope that eventually AniWaya would return to the way it had been. He knew he was not the only tribesman who felt that what Maska was doing was wrong. There was no longer anything he could do to try and change things, but he hoped those that still remained in the tribe would find a way back to where they had come from. That eventually he and his family could return to their home. As they stood there tired in the dark though the light of that hope was guttering so low he feared it would be snuffed out by any passing breeze. How had it come to this?

Quickly the sounds of approach came towards them and the blue eyed woman he knew as a friend emerged from the darkness of the packlands beyond. It was clear from her face that she knew something was amiss, and how could she not? The Utinas were not working to hide their raggedness. The man opened his mouth to answer Anu and found the words sticking to the sides of his throat. Nayati sighed and took a deep breath. "I have been banished from AniWaya." There was no use trying to hide that fact. Even though he did not regret what he had done, it was hard to swallow such a fate. "Things have changed there for the worse. Our Kalona has been deposed and a fanatic from the Great Tribe has taken his place as leader with a group of thugs to back him up." Nayati's ears had folded back against his head as he relayed the news to the Dreaming leader.

"He had one of his Guardians beat Liliana, my mate," he said and nodded his head back in the hybrid's direction. "I went to the Town Hall and argued with him and he exiled me. I think he wanted me to leave my family behind, but I could never do that. We fled in the night and I have been covering our tracks as best I can. I...I did not know where else to go." His eyes flicked back to his family before they returned to look at the bright blue of the gray toned woman. "May we seek sanctuary here? I do not wish to impose upon you and your pack, so if it is not possible I understand." Nayati did all he could to keep his desperation from his face and voice, but he hoped so strongly that she would not turn them away.

Liliana stopped next to Nayati and stayed as close as her horse would allow her. She was scared. She trusted Nayati with all her heart, but she was scared that Maska had someone coming after them as they stood there standing. She was shivering as if she were cold and she was looking around her, holding her son protectively. She was thankful for her sister in law who carried Saqui. She was quiet and though the grey shape in the distance made Liliana want to race Grace around the other way, she stayed, right next to Nayati. She listened as they spoke and thought, if he hadn’t come and got them up before leaving she would have left to go find him. She swallowed wondering what was going to happen, will this friend of Nayati let them have sanctuary or would they be running for the rest of their lives? She waited, her eyes darting from the three around her to find any answer to this question but only time will tell.

Liliana said nothing. Sunki said nothing either. Even as Anu appeared, the woman was quiet as she watched the two converse, with her brother confessing. Banishment was harsh, but the woman had watched the man struggle with his anger and his concern ever since the pack meeting when the barbarian had changed it all. Donoma shook her mane out as Sunki and Saqui dismounted. The blond woman stroked the mare's pale damp neck, glad that she had a chance to rest. The pup in her pouch squirmed, despite the late hour. Sunki could do nothing to quiet and calm the child, especially since it was hard to control anything anymore. It felt like nothing was in her grasp. She had come from the Great Tribe to a safe place. But the safety was gone.

"Please..," she said softly, stroking the child's head as she eyed the woman with pleading eyes.

There was urgency in his voice, and the same despair that was written in the deep shadows of their faces. Anu listened, eager to know what it was that brought them here and the story was surprising to say the least. Never in the many years she had lived here had she heard of the tribe acting this way. She imagined that it shocked their people more then her of course, but still she had never envisioned such a thing to occur in the tight knit family that she had always seen AniWaya to be. Her mouth opened in a silent gasp as she heard that his mate had been beaten, and that he had been expected to leave his family.

A soft word was spoken from the lighter of the females, and the restless whine of a pup echoed in the night. Anu did not hesitate.

Nayati, you are a dear friend and always welcome here. Crimson Dreams would never turn away someone in need, and you and your family are no exception. her tone was tinged with the anger that she felt towards the newly self appointed leader he spoke of. Come, lets find a place for you to rest. they were ragged and tired, as were the horses. She would need to wake Savina, once she had found the family their comfort, and explain the situation. Anu knew that their feelings would be the same in this situation.

For reference, they will be staying in/around the windmill Smile

Nayati knew what he was asking of the woman before him. Even though he had covered their tracks and had not come straight to Crimson Dreams there was the chance that they would be found to have come here. The man could not guess what Maska would do with the information if he did find out, but there was the possibility it could involve a conflict between his once home and the place he had sought for safety. The last thing he wanted to do was put anyone else in danger's way. Internally he had decided if they brought the Councilman's wrath on down on this pack he would give himself up in hope of stopping it. The thought was a twisted knife in his gut but there was no other choice. He could not let Anu and her pack pay for his transgressions. If he had to give his life to save the Dreamers he knew that Anu would make a place for his family, would take care of them in his absence. It was the best option in this horrible situation.

Anu's response was quicker than he had expected and his pale eyes grew wide in surprise of how unflinching the woman he respected was in the face of their plea. Hot breath was exhaled into the night air as relief washed over the man like a waterfall. "Anu...I cannot express my gratitude to you..." They were the only words he could find. Words were nothing in the face of what she had just given the family. A small measure of peace and security against a maelstrom of woes. Anu began to lead them into her territory and Nayati touched Iye's neck to tell the horse to follow.

As the group walked, the Utina found his voice again. "I should make introductions. Anu, this is my mate Liliana, and my little sister Sunki," he said motioning back to his dark hued love and pale sibling in turn. "Lili holds our son, Kuruk, and Sunki our daughter, Saqui. They are just over a moon old." He had wanted stability for his children, it stung that they would not grow up in the environment he had always envisioned for them. "This is Anu, and she has been a good friend to me." His voice and face expressed to his family that she was someone they could trust implicitly. He knew the Dreamer would never do anything to hurt or betray them.

Liliana didn’t know she held her breath waiting for Anu’s answer until she heard her sigh of relief when the woman agreed to take them in. Liliana felt safer, but only just. She was scared for her pups, scared for her mate, and scared for Sunki. The two women had fled once Nayati gave the news of his exile. This was against tradition and she wasn’t sure what the possible punishment could be.

“Thank you so much.”

She choked a little, more in gratitude and relief. She nudged Grace to follow the dark woman and patted the foal on his shoulder. This would be the animals new home even if Liliana left. This horse belonged to Silvano and she was sure that he would appreciate her bringing him and not losing him to the tyrant in AniWaya. She reminded herself she owuld have to seek out the young man or his father to let them know the foal was here, that way Silvano could have any time to the young cold he wanted. For now though a bed and comfort and being in Nayati’s arms were all that mattered to her, besides the obvious of getting her children settled. She didn’t have to do everything alone, and even with Sunki helping it was such a relief, though Liliana loved taking care of the two pups.

The pale woman only nodded at the stranger, gratitude in her weary smile. Pulling out Saqui from the satchel (the pup was halfway out of it anyway), Sunkii held her against her chest. The young ones were only just really started to recognize names and words, but they still squirmed regardless of what they said, angry tone or not. Saqui fought her grip, but the moment they started to follow the Dreamer woman, Sunki hugged the pup tightly and muttered a few cooing words, hoping it would calm her. Soon enough, Saqui had drifted to sleep again; she was young after all.

Nayati walked near the other woman, the horses trailing after them. It was nice to see that the young foal had made it with them; it was meant for someone in the pack here, that was all that the female knew of it. Introductions went around, and Sunki nodded in her direction. "Thank you for this. I - we - appreciate it so much." It was hard fleeing the tribe, the tribe connected to their home. It was like truly leaving a part of themselves. All that remained with them were their memories, their possessions, and their fear.

You would not send me away. Anu replied softly to his gratitude. It was true, he would never turn her away if she had come to him with the same request.

Anu did not know much about fighting, her skills were no more then the instinct that arose at such an instance. She was not more then tooth and claw and growls. There was a danger here, surrounding the banished family and all the woman truly knew was to hide. Running would only get them so far, the pups would slow them down as well as the size of their group. Anu would hide them, keep them safe and watch the borders for the beast that had shunned Nayati. As they walked she tried to picture this creature, one bind to the true honor that a beast like Nayati held. It was disgraceful.

He spoke, and she nodded to the females that he introduced. She gave the mother an understanding look, a soft smile and eyes full of sympathy. If you need a healer Liliana, I can send for one. she spoke, wondering if she would wake her daughter's mate as well as all her children to given them this weary news. And to warn them. But perhaps it was smarter to simply speak with her alphess. You will all feel better with a roof over your head and some sleep. The wolfess said encouragingly, her eyes on the pale fey that rose upon the even more ghostly horse. Anu headed towards the only place that had such a space to hold them all, even if in the wind the walls creaked and roof swayed.

The Utina man nodded his assent at his friend's statement. Yes, if Anu and her sons had come to AniWaya looking for safety he would have accepted them without a thought and so would Dawali. That was before though. Before Maska and the Guardians and how wrong everything had become. Now AniWaya was a haven for no one but the twisted Councilman. He hated to risk the safety of Anu's pack by seeking shelter here, but he had truly been able to think of no other course. They would not have been able to outrun the Guardians forever, not with Lili hurt and their pups so young. The relief of having found a place for his family struggled with the new worries that he had now put Crimson Dreams in danger. Hopefully Maska would just forget about them and let them be. Deep down though, he knew such a hope was too much to wish for.

Nayati smiled a true smile, though it was small, as the Dreamer offered a healer to his mate. He thought about mentioning the fact that his sister was trained in the healing arts and already was tending to Liliana's injuries, but Anu had addressed his mate directly and so he would let her respond. Nayati was not the type of man who felt he needed to speak for his woman. She was her own person and could answer that query as easily as he could. "We are truly in your debt, in debt to your whole pack. If there is anything I may help you and your people with please come to me. It is the least I can do for what you have given us." He was still sore from having the Guardian tackle him to the ground and pin him, but they were only bruises and did not hinder him at all. He could hunt for the Dreamers where he had refused to do so for Maska.

Liliana was slightly caught off guard by Anu’s offer, but she shook her head smiling thankfully to the woman, and turned her head to her sister in law.

“Sunki has tended to me well, there is no need to wake anyone, thank you though.”

The tri colored woman said, her voice soft and shy. A voice she hadn’t used since …. well she felt like a true member of AniWaya. After she had gotten Ouray as a spirit guide. That was when she’d really started feeling confident, though it would take longer to feel the completion, and now she was back at square one. She just wanted to hide under her covers forever. She hugged Kuruk tightly, but not so much. She hated feeling how she did, but her bruises and cuts she’d recieved from the guardian was still fresh and it brought fresh waves of fear. She couldn’t defend herself, she was only glad that she didn’t have the children with her when he came to request her something she couldn’t allow herself to do.

Sunki put a gentle hand on her sister-in-law's shoulder, carefully balancing the pup in the crook of her arm. But she quickly put it down to support the young one's weight. "I am.. was a healer," confirmed the pale woman, rather sadly. She was unsure of what she was now, now that she was no longer in AniWaya. She may not have the title of healer, but that was what she was, inside and out. That would not change. Maybe her title would, but never what she was. "I will gladly help anyone that needs help from your pack. It is the very least I can offer."

Right now, what all of them needed was a quiet rest, knowing they were safe. Nayati needed the rest more than either one of them, having been up all night and the nightmare he had gone through. He and Liliana needed some quiet time together. That was for sure. At least here, they could find that time to rest and enjoy each other's company without as much fear as they had running from their tribe.

meant to post last night... then there was an awesome lifetime movie on... 3+

Rest, and stay safe. That is what needs to be done now. She spoke to the white pelted wolf as they walked through her homeland, Anu hardly paying attention to the landscape she knew so well. It was second nature for her now, the bumps and nooks of the paths that had been worn by game and predictor alike. It was not long before they neared the windmill, the faint scent of the dead wood touching her nose.

She was glad to know that Nayati's mate had been treated, and that they had brought a healer with them. Anu did not understand the rankings of the tribe, nor the titles that they were given and so ruthlessly stripped. She would have asked what the woman meant when she said was, but another time. Perhaps when thoughts could be more casual and less serious. She nodded, grateful for the offer though she knew that it was this family that needed Sunki the most. The pups were restless, and the mother knew that they needed shelter and much needed rest and warmth.

The windmill stood over head in the clearing that broke the monotony of trees and shrubs. She looked at the weary wolves beside her and wished that she had something place better for them. But there was no better hiding place in truth. To keep them out of sight for now would be their best defense. I am eager to speak with my alphess and explain what has occurred in AniWaya. Small prey is common here, we have been blessed with an abundance of hare this season. She spoke, looking at the master hunter at the last words. Once things have calmed perhaps we can find something more comfortable. But I think this is best for now. Anu watched then, waiting for the moment where she could slip back into the night and speak with Savina.

Lol, oh lifetime movies XD Shaw & Gen, I'll leave it up to you whether we want to continue this after Anu leaves or just end it in the next few posts Smile

The man nodded quietly at Anu. It was true, the thing they needed most of all was rest, but he had wanted to make the offer now regardless. He had possibly put this pack at risk by coming here and he was determined to do all he could to repay their hospitality. Nayati wanted to believe that this would be a temporary situation but everything was so unknown. Ever since the pups had been born his future had seemed clear, but with the recent events that clarity had turned into a wall of fog. The Utina could no longer guess what might be in store for him and his family. It wore him down more than any physical ailment possibly could.

Nayati looked back to his sister as she spoke of her profession. "You still are Sunki. They cannot take that from you." Or was it I that did this? In the moment he had not doubted his words or actions, brash as they had been. But now that he was seeing how much it had affected his family those doubts were creeping into his mind. Perhaps he should have just left on his own and let Lili and Sunki be. It would have torn him apart, but they would have still had their home. He should have considered such things before urging them to flee with him. What had he done?

As the group walked into the clearing the man's head looked up to the towering structure before them. He thought he might have glimpsed some of these on his journeys to and from the Great Tribe, but he had never paid them any mind. In any other situation the thought of staying in there might have spooked him, but at the moment it seemed a welcome reprieve. Anu spoke of the abundance of prey and her eagerness to speak with her superior. "Yes, I understand completely. Whatever you think is best. These lands are yours and I trust your judgement. Thank you again Anu." He bowed his head to her before leading Iye over to the windmill and untying the packs from his back. Food would wait until sunrise, for now they all just needed rest.

Liliana couldn’t say much more than her family hadn’t, she followed them, though they were accepted into the pack more or less as refugees, she felt something nagging at her.she didn’t know what, and she was afraid to think about it, because the answer could be worse than the wolf dog could ever imagine. They were led to a large windmill. Accomidations for a little while at least. Liliana didn’t care if she had to change and live in a den, as long as she could be next to her mate, and warm snug with their children. She turned to Anu, and bowed her head to her a little to the woman.

“I will find a way to repay your kindness.”

She said, and she meant herself, she knew that Nayati could hunt, but she would be nothing but a burden on the pack if she just sat around. She wished there was something she could start doing right away, looking at the horses she started pulling off Grace’s halter, she never really needed it but with the excitement from the past few days it made the mare nervous and Liliana had trouble controling her, and now that things were calming slightly Lili figured that Grace was not going to run off on her.
