for Anu, sorry if this post is kinda all over the place :x

The sun had started its downward decent over the land. The air was warm with the heat of summer, but a gentle breeze kept temperatures comfortable. Dark brown paws carried the youth over the familiar pathway that lead through the garden. Bright blue eyes searched for the gray form of his mother. As he went his ears swiveled, taking in the various sounds that filled the flower beds his mother kept. The flowers attracted various insects and the insect in turn attracted various birds. Some colorful, some plain, some that sang beautifully and others, like the swallows, that it was their graceful flight that the youth found more attractive.

When Cypress didn't find his mother out in the gardens he quickly trotted back to the front door of the manor and made his way inside. He would take a quick sweep of the common rooms before finally heading up the stairs towards her room. The boy had taken his mother's advice. Hunting and patrolling the borders far more often than youth had previously. He had even tried his hand at few other things, like his attempt to make new pot for Anu to replace the one he had shattered. And as his mother had said it would his anger had diminished and he had not had another outbreak as he had with the flower pot.

Still, he felt the anger within him bubble and grow at times. When the hunt grew frustrating after failed attempt followed by failed attempt. Cypress was trying to find himself. Where he fit in life. But he felt lost; unable to see the forest for all the trees. His mother had told him more than once that he resembled his father, yet always reminding him that he still had her eyes. They all did and yet Cypress felt himself the farthest from her of the three. He wished to know more about his father. His thinking was that perhaps he was more like this man than just in appearance alone. "Mom?" He questioned at her cracked door as he gave it a light scratch.

Figure this is after the Utinas come to CD

[html]
The Dreaming Praetor was unsure of what to do with the arrival of Nayati and his family. She had been confident in accepting their need for sanctuary, but as she sat alone in her small room she was loosing strength and confidence. There were so many questions that came with their arrival, and a new threat to the pack. But she needed to remind herself that they were strong, and Nayati was her friend and her decision was the best she could have made. She thought about it with her hand folded on her lap, legs crossed beneath her on the old and tattered quilt that lined the bed. Blue eyes were closed, her thoughts passing over her mind's in a series of pictures that played out the events and the possible outcome.

Anu hoped for the best.

It was then that a small voice came forth through the crack of her door, a sound of claws against the wood a familiar one. She almost expected to see the face of a pup looking back at her. But it was the mature figure of her son that was shown as the door opened to his persistence. Cypress. Anu returned, her eyes brightening and her face turning to a smile. She was glad for his company, and patted the bed beside her to invite him to come and sit. It was not often that they ran into one another, and the mother hoped that he had taken her advice those months ago and took to the borders and the wilds of their territory to patrol and hunt.

The door to his mother's room edged open at the light scratching. As Cypress stuck his head in he did not see the worry that had lined her face moments before. Only her welcoming smile as she greeted him and patted the bed beside her. It was the only invitation the boy needed and he quickly trotted to the bed's edge and jump up to lay next to Anu, though only after he placed a gentle lick on her cheek. "How are you, Momma?" The boy was aware of the visitors his mother had given sanctuary to, but was blissfully ignorant of the dangers of such a thing. Not yet grown enough in mind to put heavy thought to politics and pack relations. Cypress trusted his mother and her judgement. She had welcomed them here and he had not given it a second thought since.

Besides, Cypress had his own problems, however small, and it those that occupied his own mind.

Cypress fidgeted. Shuffling his paw underneath himself as he tried to get settled and comortable. Though the unease he felt came from the nerves he felt. The young man, though he still thought himself a boy despite his age, did not know how to broach the subject of his father to his mother. She had spoke some of the man that sired he and his brothers. But the details were vague in his own mind. Like a fairy tale read from a book. What little Cypress knew of his father had left him with a grandiose image of the man, but he hungered to know more. "Momma, what kind of wolf is my father?" Blue eyes looked inquisitively towards his mother. "I want to know more about him." I want to know more about me.

Blue eyes followed the dark hued boy as he jumped and lay by her side. She noticed the familiar heart warming feeling sweep over her as she looked at the son she had created and smiled with a response to his question. I am well, and you? She had wondered how his anger had been doing, and though she had not seen any outbursts like the time with the pot and plant she would not believe that everything she saw was all the occurred. Yet Anu was happy that he had been able to keep collected around the pack, and she had certainly noticed that he did as she had told and worked to free his youthful energy.

Anu nodded at the next question, knowing that they would appear some day to challenge the knowledge that she had of Gabriel. She had feared it was too little to satisfy any of her sons. But Cypress had always been a bit more curious about their sire, where Alder seemed to feel as if all it had taken to bring him into the world was his mother. Well, Anu began, her smiling faded but still visible. he is the leader of Inferni, but you know that. It was beyond Anu's knowledge that the old man had stepped from his place as alpha in the coyote clan. To her he would always hold that rank. She thought of the first time they had met, He has faith in a god, like I do in the Sun. Faith meant believing in something bigger then one's self. It was honorable.

Anu remembered well that he had killed Haku, who tormented many in their lives and then their dreams. Anu included. It made her respect Gabriel even more then she had with his general acquaintance. But she would not tell Cypress his sire was a killer, for good or not. Instead she thought of the wolf that she knew few saw in him And he is caring, and has always been a good friend to me. Some find him frightening, but he had a good heart. Deep down beyond his marks and scars. She smiled at her son, feeling a terrible sorrow and longing well up inside. She missed her friend, and wondered if he was well.

"I've been good as well", he said with a smile as he settled next to Anu on her bed. His tail making a slow, sweeping pass across the patterned surface of the old quilt. The room was a place of good memories and tranquil moments. There always seemed to be peace in his heart here; a warmth that radiated from within in the presence of the gray woman. The boy could not imagine what life would be like without his mother. A thought that was never even considered.

His smile grew as she shared what she knew of his father. He was a noble creature, of that he was sure, and her only seemed to further confirm the grandeur he felt for the man that was his sire. But he wanted to know the man for himself, in his own mind. Not just from the words that his mother had given him. His smile faded, though only slightly, as he saw that faraway look in his mother's eyes. Touched with sadness. He had seen the look often on her face as she looked at him and he was beginning to realize how much he must remind her of the man he resembled. A man that was part of their lives, yet wasn't. "Why does he never come anymore?" He had only come once before, when they had been young and brought them gifts. The memory of that day was something precious to Cyp. "Does he not care for us?" Estranged as they were, perhaps the Inferni lord had no care for his distant children. A thought that caused the youths heart to sink a little.

Anu was glad to hear that her son was doing well. She worried often for her children and needed such reassurance. The presence of Cypress beside her brought her to smile, the memories of when he was a mere child rising within her minds eye. He belonged here, she had always felt. He belonged within Crimson Dreams. She had know it was possible to let go of Alder, maybe because his desire to stay close was so strong she could nothing but break it for him to survive. By there was a wildness with in Cypress, one she recognized as his father. But Anu forgot she had held that once, upon a time that had taken her to Jaded Shadows, then far to the north and then back to the lands of 'Souls. At times they simply must wander. He needed the Dreamers, and then needed him.

She wished she had better news for her son, a better explanation. How could she explain that he was not conceived with the promise of commitment, and under a shield of love? It was what every child desired, and she could not give it to him. Anu touched the side of his face, a soft reassuring smile on her face. Couldn't he simply be her son? Why did it need to be that he desired a father as well? Questions she would never express, for she could not blame him for wanting the world. He cares. She said softly. She believed that dearly, the woman wouldn't have said it if it was written on her heart. But there was no love there, simply a fondness and a honest understanding of one another. At times that was all two needed to bring life into the world. When I told him of you, before you were even born, I told him that you and your brothers would be mine. her tone was not as possessive as the words sounded but light and heartfelt, the truth skewed slightly for she remembered that it was Gabe that had given these children to her. But it had been a mutual agreement. Inferni is not like our home, and I wanted to protect you from those he could not control.

had writers block like you wouldn’t believe, then I got all rambly..go figure

Her eyes seem filled full with mixed emotions as her fingers brushed his cheek, Cypress pressed lightly into the contact as he looked up at eyes that mirrored his own and returning the soft smile with his own. He could not read the emotions held within their depths and he worried that maybe his questioning had upset her somehow. His smile faltering ever so slightly as his brow pinched together in mild concern. He loved his mother dearly, all her sons did and she had been enough, she would always be enough. Anu was all they had needed as young pups growing up and the pack of Dreamers filled any gaps their might of been in the absence of their sire. But Cypress saw things in himself that he did not see evidence of in his mother. He wanted to know the other side of the die from which he had been cast, not because his mother was not enough, but because he was driven to come to some understanding of himself. He wanted to know what possibilities the future might hold for him, yet still keeping in perspective that he was not bound to follow in the direct foot steps of either.

Alder was much like Mother. Perhaps not in his large size and dark shaggy fur, but he was kind and gentle in his ways. Soft spoken and often quite, though it seemed none of them used an excessive amount of words. Something that was probably not surprising to either of their parents. Oak too was more like Mother than Cypress felt he himself was. For some reason Cypress had always felt envious of his brothers. When they had been young pups it had been their size he envied and he had teased Alder for the small and quite personality he had that did not fit the size of his body. The youngest, the smallest, perhaps the youth was just looking for something that could be his and his alone. In part, his likeness in appearance to his father gave him that and so Cypress had put their sire on a high pedestal in mind as something to strive towards.

But he had her eyes.

He believed her when she stated he cared. She had never given him reason not to trust her words. He gave a soft nod of understanding they were hers and Cypress would never wish for his puphood to be any different but just because they had been hers to love and raise did not erase the fact that they had a father. He was still a part of them. He had come once and acknowledged them as his sons. It was what she said last that confused him the most, his brow knit tightly together. "What do you mean, Momma? I don't understand." Protect you from those he could not control? He did not understand. Why they would need such protection? He knew so little about the clan his father lead. He had heard a few rumors, but he wished to not believe them.

The world was not always as peaceful as their pack could be. Their home was a sanctuary, almost unmoving at times and the moments seemed to move slower then that of the wold around their borders. Anu felt as such in her later years, and as she had raised her sons. Outside there were wars, beyond there were creatures that caused pain and spilled blood. Here the members worked together, family's grew and blossomed and she believed that all their members lived here with a solid sense of happiness.

But it was not the rest existed.

Anu did not know why Gabriel allowed those with anger and rage in his ranks. She reasoned that it was about power, the ability to protect his clan and because of blood and family. Still, Anu did not judge them. They lived and so did she. How was their business. Anu took a breath as she tried to find the right way to explain how they hated wolves and trespassers and visitors. All without soiling the image of their leader.

The truth was the truth despite the image she wished to create.Inferni does not welcome wolves into their ranks, and many will protect their borders without question. It is safer here, Gabriel knew that and that is why he has kept his distance and asked me not to bring you to there. Anu looked with caring eyes hoping that he would understand that it was because she loved them so much, even before they were born, that she had made the choice to raise them solely.

we can probably start wrapping this up soon

Anu's words only confused the boy further as she tried to explain the lands of his father and how they differed from their own. Such prejudice was an unfamiliar concept to Cypress. The dreamers were mostly wolves, this was true, but Cypress had met Krystalle who was both Dreamer and a dog. She had looked odd to Cypress at first with her limp ears and short tail but she had been as friendly as any other and had tried to help him when she had found him trying to work with the clay. Was that why she and her family choose to live away from the manor? Because they were not wolves. Was their such a difference in their breeds? He didn't think so, yet he could not say he had truly met a coyote either. For Gabriel had not seemed so different from them. "No wolves.. but why? Are we so different?" His confusion was clear in his face with an almost troubled look in his eye.

He only knew such a small portion of the world. He had only seen rare glimpses of the cruel and savage world was possible beyond their borders. They had all seen a glimpse of it in Nuki, knowing now what she had done to Denali and had attempted to do to Parker. Otherwise his life had been rather sheltered behind their peaceful borders.

[html]sure!

Anu shook her head softly, I do not think we are, and I taught you to feel the same way. We all live beneath the same Sun, our lives are equal and our worth the same. She said with a solid tone of a wolf with conviction and yet the softness of one that might preach to open ears. But, not everyone was raised to think that way. And I can't explain why there is hate in the world. It saddens me to think of how much there truly is. Anu frowned, her heart leaden with the task of teaching all the ways of all the wolves of all the packs. There was too much, and though she was steadfast in her own beliefs it was impossible to understand and explain all the rest that surrounded them. It was something that one came to understand after years of life and living. With experience came accepting that the unknown would keep its nature, and remain unknown.

She leaned in, speaking before letting her nose touch his forehead as was a comforting custom for her to do with all her children. You will learn in time who you are, with time you'll understand. There was no doubt in her heart that Cypress was destined for a honest path. She could see it in his eyes and even in the pelt of his father.
